A few weeks after signing performance contract with ministers, the presidency is said to be angry at the discovery that no fewer than 20 of the 40 serving ministers have commenced plans to contest governorship elections in their states.Investigations by the Nigerian Tribune confirmed that despite warnings by President Goodluck Jonathan that it is too early to start talking of 2015, nearly half of the members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) are already oiling their political wheels for the 2015 governorship race in their respective states.
Top flight sources told the Nigerian Tribune that the president was alarmed by the activities of the affected ministers who were reported to be battling other political forces in their states, thereby distracting them from the performance of their statutory duties at the federal level.

The activities of the affected ministers were alleged to have contributed to the strained relationship between the presidency and some of the sitting governors, who believed that the ministers had the blessing of the president.

Besides affecting their job performance and reportedly rupturing relations with some governors, there were also questions of integrity, as some allegations were already doing the rounds that the affected ministers were involved in what is called "resource grab" in order to build a war chest to finance their campaigns.

Investigations by Nigerian Tribune showed that 20 serving ministers are involved in the 2015 race with the South-South and South-West accounting for three each; South-East has four, while the North-Central and North-East have three each. The North-West is said to have four on the list, a source disclosed.

It was learnt that while making subterranean campaigns for the governorship race, some of the ministers had already set target dates for their exit from the cabinet with the earliest being May next year.

Meanwhile, the ambitious ministers were said to include both senior ministers and ministers of state.

It was confirmed that while the president is studying the performance indicators of the ministries in line with the submission of an assessment team raised early in the year, the latest development had provided further avenues for the president to X-ray his ministers along the line of financial integrity.

It is, however, not clear what the president intends to do to the affected ministers even though sources said chronic cases may get booted out of the cabinet even before May next year.

Former Black Stars keeper, Richard Kingson’s wife has claimed on a TV show that she caused his bad form and personal problems with black magic.

Kingson, who has previously played in the Premier League for Birmingham, Wigan and Blackpool, has failed to find a new club since being released from Bloomfield Road last year with his career suffering an alarming slump.

According to his wife, Adelaide Tawiah, she not only made him lose his form, but also rendered him impotent with the use of black magic.

“I messed up Richard’s life ever since we got married. I used my evil powers to trouble his career, I’ve been working on him spiritually to the point he could not perform in bed,” she said on a Nigerian TV show.

The show she appeared on was one hosted by a preacher called TB Joshua, who had been attempting to cast out the ‘evil spirit’ that supposedly lived inside of her.

Kingson, who is Ghana’s most capped player, has now taken to Facebook to defend his wife.

“My wife is not a witch,” he said in the Facebook post.

Tawiah has also rejected claims that she is a witch, explaining it was the spirit that was being cast out of her that spoke.

She later declared: “I can’t even remember what took place [when making the comments].”

Patience Jonathan is expected back in the country before the end of September ahead of Nigeria’s 52nd Independence anniversary.

Patience is said to be hospitalised at the Horst Schmidt Klinik in Wiesbaden, Germany.

While a section of the media said she underwent surgery for appendicitis, some others said she was being treated for food poisoning.

Amidst the conflicting reports however, her media aides insisted that she only travelled abroad to rest after the stress involved in the hosting of the African First Ladies’ Conference in Abuja.

They also insisted last week that they did not know when the President’s wife would return to Nigeria.

Her media aide, Ayo Osinlu, had told our correspondent. “She is not a regular public office holder who has a specific duration for vacation. Assuming that she has a specific duration for vacation, then we could have said the vacation will end on a particular day and she will return on a particular day.

“But as it is, she can decide to return anytime she feels she has rested enough.”

IMO STATE TRADITIONAL PARLIAMENT was inaugurated today. At the first sitting, three crucial bills were presented:

1. A bill seeking to slash down the cost of marriage & uniform the marriage rite in every community in Imo State. The bill among other things recommends that bride price shall henceforth be #10,000.

2. A bill seeking to unify the kola nut ceremonial all over Imo State. this bill was sent to Committee stage.

3. A bill for an Act to make Igbo Language compulsory in all schools in Imo State.

It was thrilling to watch. Offor was used as the mace while the traditional odu served as the Speaker's gavel. English was totally forbidden while Igbo reigned.

The rule of this parliament (first of its kind in the whole of Nigeria) is that any law passed by it will still be sent to the state assembly for affirmation or otherwise.

It will be recalled that Governor Rochas Okorocha as part of his ROCHANOMICS has forwarded a bill to the State Assembly seeking to repeal the town unions and enthrone the Community Development Council to serve as the 4TH TIER OF GOVERNMENT. The bill was eventually passed & the Governor, Speaker & who is who in Imo were there today for the Inauguration.

Two of France’s biggest international football stars are to face trial for allegedly soliciting an underaged prostitute, in one of the most high-profile sex scandals to hit French sport.

Franck Ribéry, who plays for the German club Bayern Munich, and Karim Benzema, a striker at Real Madrid in Spain, have been ordered to stand trial over allegations of paid sexual encounters with Zahia Dehar, who was under 18 at the time. They will appear with six other defendants, some of whom will be prosecuted for “aggravated pimping”.

The long-running case, which began as a police investigation into allegations of prostitution at an expensive nightclub near the Champs Elysées, tarnished the image of French football, upset the French team during its fraught 2010 World Cup campaign in South Africa and has since become an extraordinary celebrity saga in France.

Dehar told investigators that Benzema had paid for sex with her in 2008, when she was 16. She further claimed that Ribéry had paid sex with her the following year. He allegedly flew her to Munich as a 26th “birthday present” to himself. Ribéry, a convert to Islam who is married with three children and had been hugely popular in France for his image as a wholesome family man, told police he had not known Dehar was underage.

Asked by Paris Match magazine whether she had been Ribéry’s birthday gift, Dehar replied: “I’m a pretty present, aren’t I?” She told investigators that neither footballer had known her real age.

In November last year, the Paris state prosecutor requested that the case against the footballers be dropped on the grounds that they did not know that Dehar was under 18. But the investigating judge in charge of the case decided differently and this week sent it to trial.
Both players face a possible three years in prison or a €45,000 (£35,000) fine if found guilty.

When the footballers were first placed under formal investigation in July 2010, Ribery’s lawyer said a legal case would have to prove that the player had known Dehar’s age “which isn’t the case”. Benzema’s lawyer said on Tuesday he was “innocent” and would explain himself in court.

The case, which began in 2009 when police were investigating an alleged pimping network in a central Paris bar called the Zaman Cafe, has in recent months moved from the crime and sports pages to the fashion sections. Following the exposure of the high-profile investigation, the fashion designer Karl Lagerfield has taken the Algerian-born Dehar, who is now 20 and a designer, under his wing and her own lingerie collections have shown at Paris fashion week. Artists Pierre et Gilles have painted her and she has graced the covers of glossy magazines.

But the three-year legal investigation into alleged pimping and illegal underage sex pointed to a harsher reality behind the glamour of Paris’s top bars, where Dehar said she once met clients. Born in Algeria, Dehar moved to the Paris suburbs after her parents’ divorce and began going to VIP bars in central Paris in her teens.

Didier Deschamps, the new French football coach, said he did not want to comment on the case. “It’s in the hands of the justice system,” he said. “It won’t change my demands as to their behaviour on and off the pitch as part of the French team.”
