Frankly, job scams should be easy to bust by any decent graduate, especially those by those hare-brained Nigerian job scammers. Imagine someone calling himself NNPC H.R Manager sending you an email from Gmail account and asking you to call one Dr Oke? And some people fall for that! C'mon. I wrote an article on the subject last year or so: http://www.jarushub.com/5-ways-to-identify-fraudulent-recruitment-arrangement/ |
Yeah, I'm contesting for Offa LG Chairmanship by God's grace. |
bukson2: Pls bro I ve been ask that question not long ago and I don't knw answer for it.. He goes those. Tell me something about you that is not in ur CV..... I come they look like Mumu pls my fellow Nairalander Answer plsNobody can answer that kind of question for you. You know yourself, you know your CV, simple: what is about you that's not on the CV. Which club do you support? Where do you like to holiday (like your village, abroad etc)? Do you, like me, enjoy playing football every Saturday? These are things about anyone that are not required to be on CV. Don't talk about skills, because skills are expected to be on your CV. |
bukson2: Pls bro I ve been ask that question not long ago and I don't knw answer for it.. He goes those. Tell me something about you that is not in ur CV..... I come they look like Mumu pls my fellow Nairalander Answer plsThat should be a straight forward question. Ok, may require some 5 seconds thinking which you can buy time by smiling and saying " Hmmnn (inaudible) something about me that's not not on my CV, I will say....." "Hmmnn, something about me that's not on my CV" i.e repeating question, is a strategy to think fast on what you want to say, within that 5 seconds i.e before reaching "I will say" and fire on. In fact, you can say"i will say" twice if still processing your thought, something like "I will say...well, I will say". You can also add another thought-organizer, "A number of them actually. First...." After using those to process your thought you can then fire. If I were on that seat, I would say something like this: "Hmmnn(inaudible), something about me that's not not on my CV? Every major disclosure I think is relevant for this job, I think I have them on my CV. Maybe a couple of things. For example, I'm a fan of Arsenal FC of England, I have supported the club since 1999 (with a smiling face), never mind the fact that the club has not been so impressive for some years now. That's one thing about me that's not on that CV that comes to my mind now" Look, hardly will there not be any surprise question in any interview. There are cases where you have to decide or think of something on the spot. I get annoyed that some people are so mechanical that anything that involves thinking on the spot, they're lost. Same thing with many students in school and in professional exams, anything beyond what they read before that paper, they are lost. Everyone needs to be a fast thinker, attempt solution to any problem on the spot, with residual knowledge if need be That's what makes some people extraordinary. |
Givemejoy: I am thinking since it is now consolidated relief allowance-you add both basic and allowance, apply the graduated income to get taxable income and it is from your gross pay you apply the (8%).Always check the date of a post Pls. You still don't get it. I made that post in 2012 or so, the new Act that increased that rate to 8% was just gazetted in August 2014. |
AriDsexy: I'm glad I saw this topic,I'll like to ask a question though.I went for an interview and deep down I knew I was doing well, after selling myself, somehow I just chipped this"if u can work in coy xx,u can work anywhere"that was me referring to my former place of work, because really I'm into customer service[CCA] to be precise for a popular network in Nigeria,I didn't get the job even though I know I did well in d interview,I couldn't forgive myself cos I felt, they feel I was being proud or something, don't know, just asking.Mr Jarus or someone else, please help me out here. While that may not be the reason you were dropped, it's actually a red flag. Next time don't say that. A more humble way to say that is, " In all modesty, I have always done well anywhere I found myself, including my current place of work, and I don't think your company will be different.". |
Edoblakky: . There are things not to say during an interview. You gave the interviewer(s) the impression that you have worked with a difficult company hence the comparison. Never put your former or previous employers in a bad light before a prospective employer. They will feel you will do same to them before other employers. Cheers!Endorsed. |
Givemejoy: I stand to be corrected, you monthly P.A.Y.E is. 8900 and Pension is 8% of your Gross pay......PAYE: Don't know what you're talking about PENSION: Check the date of the post to know why it's 7.5% of BHT |
Mention: I know... Its just "Emirates" ryt?? Well I got used to "Fly Emirates" because of soccer!!Yes, I knew that's from watching football. I heard one of these DSTV Nigerian boys, when asked which city he had traveled to In UK, said Aston Villa. He thought every club is UK is a city a la Manchester City, Liverpool, Birmingham etc. He lied he traveled to "Aston Villa City" not knowing Aston is aclub name in Birmingham city. The guy was busted, never traveled out ofNigeria befo |
ednut1: nice tips bro. i remember goin for an interview and i crammed jarus tips. na so dem fire me first question. tell us sometime about u not in ur cv. i lost guard sharplyBecause Jarus never told you to be mechanical. |
Mention: Life vest in a Nigerian Flight?? Nah it doesn't work that way yet..There is no airline operator as "Fly Emirate" sir. |
sunsky29: i fear to enta plane o.jst imagin d kain comotion wey go dey insyd plane wen d tin wan crash...nobody go remember any tip...na their gods name dm go remember.....plane crash is worstest than car crash....truth b tld, people in a plane are never at rest til da plane lands.Interestingly, I'm usually more at rest on air than on road journey. In fact, I don't sleep in car when traveling, but I sleep in a 45-minute flight. I still consider air travel the safest. |
Williamso: I just tried sending you a message. Please I need your help. Thank you.Jarushub@gmail.com |
BankManager: Good evening Mr.JarusI was in similar dilemma when I wanted to start my career. I opted for oil and gas company. If you have the two offers in your hand, go for oil and gas please, except it's a mushroom oil and gas company that you're not sure of its future. |
I'm indifferent on this. I just hope she's saving and investing. That said, I think the article writer misclassified her as an entrepreneur. She sees herself as into showbiz like the musicians. |
MadCow1: This Journalist is quite jobless... lolNo, she didn't, if you read the interview. She wrote words to the effect that the actual people that vote don't care about the internet. |
dada01: But can't we be Sincere with our selves. Are you the 28-year-old chemistry graduate? ![]() |
silentdon: Sir they didn't just do internship and end it there, they were given full-time appointments/employment. So its actually different.Good job by them. ML is one company top talents in top schools aspire to work with. Congrats to them once again. |
Good job guys. Petty as it may seem, if I were in the shoes of the PR handlers of Unilorin, I would also broadcast it. It's acceptable part of selling one's product. But this is actually a routine thing. I have a number of friends that were picked from Ife for Goldman Sachs internship programmes at different points. One of the Jobberman founders, Ayodeji Adewunmi, a Medical Student then, was; so were Tunde Oladosu of Economics and a couple of other guys. Notwithstanding, the guys deserve commendation. ML, like Goldman Sachs, are world class investment institutions, only select few get the opportunity to intern with. |
cdamsel: OMGNa hp topic nah ![]() Thanks for "admiring from afar" ![]() |
Some are too common, some are useless (like the accident question), but what is common to all of them is 95% of people give lies and fantasies as answers. Only one or two of the questions are special, others are banal lines you hear everyday. |
texazzpete: What does visiting the Oba of Lagos instead of the Ooni of Ife have to do with someone being a 'religious bigot'?Hahahaha. ![]() |
He was in Lagos on his way back from Ijebu Ode |
MayorofLagos: In fact the two visits were back to back...He was in Ijebu Ode for a function yesterday and quickly stopped by in Lagos, on his way back to Lagos. Returned to Kano yesterday evening. And this is from the horse's mouth. In any case, it is hardly possible for someone's of Emir of Kano's status - whether SLS or any other person - to pass through Lagos without paying courtesy visit to the Oba of Lagos - that's why it is called courtesy. This is more so for Sanusi who grew up in Lagos, attended King's College, spent the most part of his career in UBA and FBN in Lagos. |
Ope o. Very timely. One of the headaches I think about as I plan my 4-hour road trip to my town for sallah. They should not be too far from the road sha, because of the other "men on the highways". |
ueskman: can we see Baba's pics?Open the Punch link. His pic is there. |
pendusky:Sagamite is my boss. He works with a reputable firm in the UK. He is one of the professionals that assist me with their wealth of experience on my portal. |
paolo96: Thanks, please how can I get him.See my advice here: http://www.jarushub.com/next-best-dilemma-of-an-an-economics-aspirant/ All the best. |
2cato: what kind of food is he fond of eating that keep him so long in life? What kind of food is he fond of eating that keep him so long in life? I know he likes Amala and, once in a while, Pounded Yam, in the evenings. In the morning, he takes pap with moinmoin, akara or vegetable, almost 7 days a week. He doesn't like eba. I think it's more of destiny - God's predestination. I'm not aware of any special thing he does, but I know he eats very healthy, doesn't take the junks we eat these days, eats natural food and soup (all manners of vegetables). He eats meat. His only exercise is walking round the compound almost every evening, or from his room, to the open space in front of our house. And what religion did he practice and which one is he still practising? His father was an Ifa priest (traditional religion). He was also trained in Ifa as a young boy, but he voluntarily accepted Islam in 1932, at 18, and took that Muslim name himself. He ran away from home when he accepted Islam thinking his father would skin him. To his surprise his father did not have any problem with his decision; it was only his Uncle that had issue with him, but he too later succumbed to his decision. He went to Hajj in 1964, and that was when he stopped smoking. He still prays his 5 daily prayers till today and we pray he dies in Islam. Unfortunately, I cant answer your number 3 |
shocks: I'm not much of a football fan but the OP really made my day with this one. Been laughing my head off! Seems this game is even more interesting off the pitch.Yes, off-field comments add fun to football. That's why any league Mourinho is, can't be short of entertainment. Every statement from his mouth will generate controversy. He knows how to couch words leaving you to decipher. |
I can't quote verbatim but Arsene Wenger's (or was his coach at Portsmouth's?) comment on Kanu's legs (and age) was funny. Something like "he can only play for 15 minutes, he's an old man, we stretcher him in the dressing room after a match". Word to that effect. ![]() |
Maradona ahead of 2010 WC also said if he won the World Cup he would celebrate naked. Maradona is another guy that has many of such memorable quotes. |
