Jobs/Vacancies › Re: The Over-hyping Of First Class Honours In Nigeria by Jarus(m): 8:44pm On Sep 01, 2014
SamSara01: I studied Banking and Finance, I just completed a professional course and I'm now a Chartered Banker and no I'm not frustrated. The class of degree I'm carrying as just not so far lived up to the hype students, lecturers and professionals alike have given it.
Look, you're impatient. Being without job for 3 months, post-NYSC, irrespective of class of degree, is not yet a cause for concern.

Can you honestly answer this simple question: Have you ever been invited for any test? Did you pass?
Jobs/Vacancies › Re: The Over-hyping Of First Class Honours In Nigeria by Jarus(m): 8:41pm On Sep 01, 2014
Gorimakpa: Countless times I've done well in aptitude tests and interviews, only to later find out that some barely-literate dolts (with due respect) who can hardly string a decent sentence in English got the jobs through their connections and other back-door means. Sometimes when you interact with the characters that get employed in these great establishments (NCC, NNPC, NERC, Nigerian Breweries, etc), feelings of humiliation and sadness overwhelm you because you know that under normal and fair conditions, they are no match for you.
If you did very well in test and interviews, no one will deny you the job. Not all the eventual successful applicants came in through the back-door. That seems like a flimsy excuse to explain inability to pass tests or interviews to me.

How did you know you're better than them? Because of spoken English?

Are you telling me ALL of them got the job by connection.

I just don't believe that trash. I have met young guys on Nairaland here, like Nitrogen, that knows no one, but has gotten three different job offers (from reputable companies) within 1 year of completing NYSC. And he has 2.1 plus, recently, ICAN.

Only few openings are filled by connections, contrary to what people say.
Jobs/Vacancies › Re: The Over-hyping Of First Class Honours In Nigeria by Jarus(m):
First Class will not get you automatic employment. You still have to work for it. What efforts are you making? Are you nosing for information?

What were you doing during NYSC?

Have you written any test in the past? Did you pass them?

I know at least 10 companies that don't care about your course of study (and even school), once you have 2.1 and above and not above 26 years: Accenture, KPMG, PwC etc. I can assure you that if you apply to these companies, you will be called for test, now left for you to prove yourself.

This is KPMG recruiting graduates irrespective of course (http://www.jarushub.com/kpmg-recruiting-graduates/), have you applied for it?

Look, the greatest mistake you can make is sitting there and thinking First Class will land you automatic employment.

And for me, spending 3 months at home, post-NYSC, is not too much, especially in this season of general lull. To me, it becomes an issue when it reaches 1 year. Some companies' recruitment process takes 1 year. I know First Class grads that spent 1 years at home. In fact, one of my friends not only had First Class, he also had ICAN, but did not get job until after 1 year. He's now doing well with a top bank in Nigeria.

By the grace of God, I also hold a First, and got a job within 2 weeks of completing my NYSC. I can tell you that First Class is a leg up if you truly worked for it.

"1 out of every 5 Africans is a Nigerian"

We don't know what we have, many African countries actually envy us, but we don't know.

We may not know it too, but Nigeria is the most respected African country in football.

Generally, I believe annual house rent should not be more than your 2 month salary, that's about 17% of your annual net pay.

My own rent at the moment is however just a little above half of my 1 month salary. That's roughly 5% of my annual net pay

Lucky77: CAPITAL N-O-O-O-O-O-

He was given another chance under Keshi - in one of the brazil 2014 qualifying matches in Calabar (against huh? - can't remember) He flopped badly and had to be replaced mid-way into the game. This was after all the media brouhaha: Obafemi scored this for his club, Obafemi scores that for his club, bla bla bla .... Let him just relax with his club and earn his doles till he retires like his age mates. o pari.
Yes, he did not score in that match but he was charging the defenders and actually outdid the striker he came in for.

More so one game is not enough to judge him.

For me, with Obafemi in a match, I have hope of anything happening.

I'm for Obafemi returning.

25. But anything under 30 is still ok. There are some things you can do in your twenties and can be overlooked, people can say "oh, he's still a small boy", but at 30s, taken more seriously. Moreso, if you're successful in your twenties, earn more respect.

Imagine these two sentences:

Oh, can you believe the guy that owns Facebook is just 27!

Oh, the Facebook owner is in his early thirties.

nairaman66: Good for him.. I wonder how many goals like this he has scored while in the premier league or the Serie A.. huh
If you watch football, you will know that Martins' goal, irrespective of where he played, are world class goals.

His goal vs Tottenham in EPL in his first season in England won goal of the week. It was described as one of the most powerful shots ever seen in the history of EPL.

His opening goal vs Aston Villa (I think) on the first day of 2007/2008 season was another stunning goal, a spectacular bicycle kick. He scored great goals in Italy, Germany, Russia and Spain too.

He scored 17 goals in his first season in England.

I don't believe the guy is spent. We need him for 2015 Nations cup. I believe was impatient with him the last time he invited him. Performance in a single match is not enough.

PapaBrowne: Every walked the new Jumeriah Beach Walk at night? On that street is the most amazing collection of super cars I have seen ride on a 1 km stretch at one go. Dubai is crazy. The display of ostentation wealth is beyond reality.

Interestingly, and this is one solace, the music ooozing out of many of those Lamboghinis, Feraris and Maseratis are the likes of Psquare, Davido, Dbanj, WizKid and the like. I feel a sense of patroitic pride anytime I hear our music been played out in Foreign Lands. But I have been amazed at the frequency I hear them played out of those supercars by them moneyed arab kids. I wonder what the attraction to Nigerian music is.
Agreed with all you said. I met one Lebanese guy in Dubai Mall late last year and I was surprised he was playing p-square.

Been to this campus, anyway. It's in academic city, outskirt of Dubai.

I don't believe the media is purposely Collaborating with them, but their strategy(trick) is working on the media.
Education › Re: Six Most Expensive Secondary Schools In Nigeria (alarming School Fees) by Jarus(m): 5:45pm On Aug 24, 2014
50calibre: You're missing the point, this isn't just about the academics, it's about the whole package.

In terms of quality, you can't compare those schools to the average Nigerian school, the environment, the teachers, the facilities, the intellectual level, the pattern of learning.... are miles ahead of Nigerian standards.

Those schools are for the creme de la creme, no wannabe thugs, no poor people & most likely no bullies. Every kid is such school comes from an upper class, there kids develop network of important friends which comes handy in life. That's why you'd notice people of an upper class belong to a certain clique, these are where those cliques are formed.

People who send their kids there are not fools, if you got the money, send your kids there.
The reason why Bukola Saraki (son of Olusola Saraki) married Toyin Ojora (son of Billionaire Adekunle Ojora)

Why son of IBB married daughter of Indimi

Why Bola Shagaya's son marries Atiku's daughter

Etc

You won't find a poor man where they are.

That said, I believe it's a waste of money. For a Dangote I agree, at least for security reason (Dangote's daughter can't go to just any school, for risk of kidnap); but all these middle-level Managers in companies that live in Lekki/Ikoyi and spend such fortune on educating of their children, it's a waste IMO.

donroxy: To me sha o, Banning Facebook is a measure against Mark's influence going by what ''Influence'' implies !!

Wao, Dangote can not enter white house effortlessly even as the economic czar of sub-saharan Africa where US has great interest .... !!

Ok sir !
Yes, he cannot.
Celebrities › Re: Top Ten World Most Influential CEOs by Jarus(m): 3:09pm On Aug 24, 2014
donroxy: Jarus, I believe when we are talking about Influences atleast the Op should provide us with a kinda framework/yardsticks ... What these CEOs have actually influenced .....

The fact that FB CEO has information regarding over 1billion users , does that actually measures Influence he has on users ? If yes, how has he uses such to influence users ?

Can Mark makes me to change my will as an FB user when I have Options(competing social networks) and I'm not willing to change .... ?

I think that is what ''Influence'' implies !

I think on Policy decisions , we have to know what ''Policy Influence is'' and we are looking @ CEOs, remember, not their corporations

Can Mark make Nigerian/American government to conform to his will ?

Also, If FB is banned by many governments , doesn't such measures counteract Mark's influence ? ..... When you can't penetrate a government to make them bend their rules to your will interms of policy formulation .........

Jarus, Is that Influence ?

I think Influence is the ability to bend someone or something to your own wills and modalities !!

So ?
Yes, Mark Zuckerberg can make American government conform to his will.

The fact that some governments banned Facebook shows they recognized, and probably were afraid of the power of Facebook. The man that controls Facebook is that influential. You can't detach the influence of the CEO from a corporation, especially founder-CEO like Zuck.

Another simple test of influence: there are places Zuck can enter effortlessly in the world and Dangote cannot, including White House.

Influence is "the capacity to have an effect on the character, development, or behavior of someone or something, or the effect itself.".

You're probably mixing power for influence. If Mark closes down Facebook today it will have effect on more 1 billion people.
Celebrities › Re: Top Ten World Most Influential CEOs by Jarus(m): 7:56am On Aug 24, 2014
donroxy: what is nice in there .... Op could not show us what those people have influenced !!

The only Influential CEO on that list , to me, is Dangote because he is singlehandedly capable of influencing Nigerian Government Policy as well as some African countries Policies among other influences in business world !

So, the rest ?
Facebook CEO is more influential than Dangote. 1 out of every 6 persons on earth is on Facebook. Meaning he has some basic info about more than 1 billion people and also if he decides to shut down Facebook, more than 1 billion people will know something is happening.

Yes I know it's now publicly quoted, but he still owns the majority stake in Facebook.

Also, on policy influence, Zuck can have a strong say in policy direction in many countries, including America. Facebook is banned in some countries, to show the influence of Facebook.
