Mr mapet the strangest thing here is that you have been on NL since 2005 yet you don't know who jarus is. Few things are as parallel as jamb & the person you are referring to. An apology won't be bad.

Stop hating..... I hope you're in school or went to one. If not better face your Jamb studies and get a good University Education. Then you can be in a position to be considered for posts. Rather you're hating. Why not direct yourcomplaint to the NJC that recommended to the Governor.......

The hierarchical order as favored in the Legal profession was followed. We all knew she was next in line when her sister was sworn in back then

Smh.

Is this a political appointment?

Does being a sister to the outgoing disqualify one from being the CJ if one is the next most senior Judge?

When the sisters enrolled for Law degree more than 40 years ago and rose through the ranks, was it APC that advised them to do?

I'm a qualified accountant and member of ICAN, my elder brother is also a member. Does that mean we cannot rise to become ICAN president independently? So it he becomes in the future, and I succeed him, has ICAN turned into a family affairs?

Smh for the ignorance here.

Jobs/Vacancies › Re: Motivational Quotes For Job Seekers by Jarus(m): 11:31am On Aug 17, 2014
These are not quotes actually, but experiences within my circle of friends which they will find motivational.

1, My best friend failed Accenture test and Vetiva interview, but ended up getting the best job among us: Shell. He's been with Shell for 6 years and was seconded to an European country couple of years back.

2, Another friend spent two years post-NYSC actively searching for job without luck. This was someone that had strong 2.1, 4.3 plus. It was so tough that ordinary 10k to use as transport to visit his fiancee was tough to raise. At a time I was pushing for contract job of 60k for him when it got tough. He got job with a top bank 2 years after NYSC. He is doing well today with a nice ride and his own house.

3, My elder brother has a friend. He finished with 2.2 in an engineering course in Unilorin. He struggled to get job while my brother and his other friends were already doing very good job and living very comfortably. He was managing in a factory in Kwara State that paid 10k per month (although 10k in 2000 is like N40k today). One incident stuck in my mind: my brother had come from his Lagos base (where he works) to Kwara, and was driving back. This friend had a test in Lagos around that time and had the word of my brother that he would ride with him in his car to Lagos on his way back. On the day of return, and unknown to my brother earlier, plans changed and some of his us his brothers and sisters were also to travel with him to Lagos. So there was no space in the car again. The friend came in his Ghana-must-go bag and my brother begged him that he was sorry he didn't anticipate that we will be traveling back to Lagos with him, that there was no space again, and he gave him transport fare for public bus to Lagos. Fast-forward to one year later and this guy got a job with Schlumberger and his life changed dramatically with few months. Good car of his, traveling to Europe at ease, and building his own house within couple of years. Anytime I saw this brother my mind flashed back to that incidence of my brother giving him transport fare.

I'm not given to sensationalism but I'm excited by this news.
Its going to go a long way in boosting the confidence of the care givers and increase the morale and fighting spirit of the other infected victims to survive.
I want to believe our standard of living is higher than those countries with 60% mortality rate of the EVD or at least those were impoverished people in their rural area with not so high immunity. Nothing stops the mortality rate being 40% or lower here with good nutrition and health supplements.
Good point. Immunity plays a part. Although viruses destroy immunity, immunity can be boosted by some supplements to get it back to work in the fight against the foreign body.

Business › Re: Do I Sue The Owner Of Learnsmart.com.ng?? by Jarus(m): 4:11pm On Aug 12, 2014
databoy247: In life, we learn everyday. There are some persons who are just too nice and responsible that you wouldn't mind sharing with them. When it comes to business i dont have friends, only clients! I am not trying to accuse Mr Jarus of anything but i just have to be sure since he was the only person i really explained to. And definitely he must have transferred the "explanation" to someone else in his bid to seek advice/counsel like he said earlier. I dont know who else he must have shared it with but i believe the leak must have come from there.

Mr Jarus, my anger with you is that after seeking counsel, you should have notified me that you were no longer interested. It wont take anything from you. The reason is if you had done that, i wont even think or consider that you are behind LearnSmart. Why? Because of your notification that you weren't interested. I believe you are a man of your words and so i will believe that a man who says he is not interested will not go behind my back to implement. Also, since you explained about it to Seun, so another random question is "did Seun discuss it with someone else jokingly?" ......there are alot of questions on my mind.

And if Seun pointed out flaws, you should have called my attention to them and given me some advise like people know you to give. You revoked your interest and also did not advise me on the flaws identified. Everyone on NL see you as a career adviser but you did not prove to me that you are one. Instead you avoided my calls like ebola virus. #JustSaying#

The bitter lesson i have learnt here is to trust no one. No matter how legitimate or responsible the person might appear...TRUST NO ONE! And to anyone out there that has a viable project he wants to share or seek funding, always ask the person to sign a NDA (Non Disclosure Agreement) before sharing so if anything happens, you can properly seek legal action. That was the mistake i made and such wont happen again.

As for the owner of LearnSmart, i will see how far you will go. Thieves always get caught one day. And as they say, "The more you keep trying to be like someone else, the more you end up being no 2."

Mr Jarus, i hope you are not provoked. I mean no harm, i am just pissed. I respect you and i ALWAYS read your blog. My advise to you is that when you are dealing with someone, always communicate with the person to the end even if you end up changing your mind about what you were discussing with the person, at least courtesy demands you inform the person so the person wont start having thoughts. Am sure you wont like being left to hanging dry just like that also....its frustrating and annoying. Nice job on what you have been doing so far here on Nairaland.

Cheers. cool
My apologies for not formally closing out the transaction, even when I got disinterested.

Seun is the only person I shared the idea with - not idea really, I just sent him link to your website and asked for advice on whether to go ahead to acquire it. He wasn't too disposed to it, and I knew he knows better. The Seun I know will not steal anyone's idea.

Truth is, no idea is unique.

I don't know how to check info on the date of creation of a website, but I won't be surprised if that Learnsmart website actually predated your own.

I don't know anything about Learnsmart, never visited it.

But I'm so surprised you will ever think you have monopoly of ideas. I guess Jumia should sue Konga for copying it, and all these thriving e-commerce sites like Dealdey etc
Business › Re: Do I Sue The Owner Of Learnsmart.com.ng?? by Jarus(m): 6:53am On Aug 12, 2014
Yes, I opened negotiation with you on acquiring your site, just as I spoke with a couple of other webmasters on acquiring their websites. Along the line, I sought the advice of my de facto adviser/consultant who knows better on internet entrepreneurship, Seun Osewa, on the viability of your website. He called my attention to a couple of flaws, and I respect him on such matters (he was my leading adviser when I floated JarusHub last year). Hence, I decided not to go ahead with the transaction.

Please go ahead and sue the owner of learnsmart.com or whatever you call it. I don't know anything about it. I have never visited it. I don't know the owner. If you think he copied your model, please go ahead and sue him. But definitely, you won't see Jarus in court. Because Jarus is not behind it.

Education › Re: Share your Examination Memories by Jarus(m): 5:24pm On Aug 08, 2014
Many memories

I love exams. Still do, till now.

I remember the "more sheets" competition in our GCE and WASSCE. grin Always collecting more sheets, especially in "story" subjects like economics.

In JSS 3, I remember how one of my classmates who had asked for permission to go ease himself during exam came back with an orijo, and the orijo paper dropping from his body in front of the class - right in front of invigilator - as he returned to class.

I remember how I used to swear after some papers (especially economics and geography) in SSS3/WAEC that "not even satan can mark this paper and I will fail". (Not a good thing to say, looking back, but we were just coming of age then).

Lot of memories.

The longest stretch I ever read was 14 straight hours (only stood up to eat and/or go to mosque for the Muslim prayers in between). That was in my 200 level in the university. I can't forget that day.

I remember how I used to mark myself after each paper and guess my score or range of score. I hardly predict wrong. I still do that.

I still love exams. Till date, I still have one or two exams I'm writing. I don't know when I will stop. I love exams.

However, I would like to be prepared for future interviews that are impromptu as I don't usually have time to prepare even if I know am qualified for the job. I never said you won't get job using those lines. In fact, some of them are standard answers to the questions.

Just to make you know that interviewers are not fools and they know you're lying. Just overlooking it.
Career › Re: Top Lies Nigerian Job Seekers Tell In Interviews by Jarus(op): 6:28am On Aug 04, 2014
I spotted a couple of typos in my original post, but NL doesn't allow me to modify. Edited here:

+++
It is very difficult to be 100% truthful in interviews – if not lie, there is a very strong urge to embellish – exaggerate or understate - actuals.

However, this is not to say everyone lies or embellishes.....
Career › Re: Top Lies Nigerian Job Seekers Tell In Interviews by Jarus(op): 6:24am On Aug 04, 2014
igbonla: Jarus, I love this thread but think you are off on this one. There are lies and there are lies, the route you suggested above could be interpreted as a dumb lie that portrays the applicant as a dishonest fellow. I sent one guy off from an interview for one of those dumb lies; any lie that tend to show that those on the panel are either foolish or lacks simple understanding of life situations will cause you more trouble than expected. Seriously, many members of interview panels that I have been on will even give you some coaching based on your response and outlook.

I would recommend something simple like "As much as it may not be good for my career development, it is an offer I will be tempted to consider due to the financial inducement. However, my decision will not be based only on the salary but also on other factors such as opportunities for growth". Go ahead to give example, like how long it takes to be a partner in a popular audit firm compared to being a Manager in Shell. The audit firm also provides better opportunities in terms of meeting different kinds of people across the many clients organization. Finish it up by saying that translates to big money on the long term.

Playing smart is very important when under tension to win that job.
Good contribution. Thanks.

These things are subjective. There is hardly any perfect answer to interview questions.

I just feel it is more dangerous to say yes, I'll quit.

But I see wisdom in your approach nonetheless.

Our friends here now have two options and can decide which one they are more convinced to suit their purpose.

It's good to have options to interview questions.

chidyhels: I never thought Jarus could be this funny.
I remb this interview that I was told to rate my ability to use Microsoft tools. Nnah eh, I was just shouting 10 over 10 not knowing the PC infront of me was to prove it.
Interview that lasted over an hour, just entry level o.
Don't ever rate yourself 10\10 in any skills. Maybe in character, such as integrity. But skills, 10\10 is an invitation to trouble/drilling.

At entry level interview years back, I was asked to rate myself in Excel, I said 6/10. It stopped there. Mind you it was entry level, just after NYSC. They actually didn't expect me to know everything about Excel.

At interview for same company like 1 year later, another friend rated himself 7/10 in Excel and he was drilled further, although he aced it.

6-8 over 10 is a good rating in skills. Even today, with 7 years of experience and using excel everyday, I won't rate myself more than 8/10 in Excel.

Saburi, Saburi ayi ayi o

i remember how he was rigged into SUG presidency in 2006, the year i graduated. The election was between the progressives/politically conscious students, represented by Saburi, and the church students/omo Daddy students who were ordinarily not politically active, which presented one Dr K as candidate the latter were the majority but the political active students believed Ife cant have such a figure-head as President who will be puppet to school management. They had to rig Saburi in. i remember the protest the next morning.
