Gboliwe: Quite an interesting thread. Please, how do you apportion or share the salary to basic, transport , housing and calls? If the pay package is not broken into its various elements - at least basic, housing and transport - it becomes quite difficult to compute the pension and taxes. The mgt or your HR would do better breaking down the staff package package in this for proper tax accounting. However, if they are not broken down, applying 7.5% on total income as Pension is not out of place, but you would have overstated the Pension, which is better than understating. Also, for Tax, the new amended PITA makes it easy. CRA applies to the Gross Income. So you won't have problem computing the CRA, but the tax man, in time of audit, may not accept taking as relief Pension based on 7.5% of total income and not BHT only, but if you show evidence of pension remittance and all that, they can accept it. For an annual income of 300k and below, clearly 7% is the applicable rate. It is when it crosses 300k that the excess will be subject to 11%. But I hope the 300k you're talking about is not monthly because we are talking about annual figures here. 300k per month comes to 3.6m per annum. |
Gbawe: Jarus, I know you are an ultra-loyal fan of Sanusi but that should not blind you to the fundamental error of what you write above that is rather a blase dismissal of what obtains in developed Nations. I guess Nigerians have their own 'unique' ways. In most Nations, it is paramount the Central bank is entirely independent and not subject to the whims and caprices of politicians or political machinations. We all know what happened here that can't be spun. The legislative arm made GEJ 'blink' and Sanusi had to be the fall guy. That was interesting, especially the quoted excerpt from the book. Notwithstanding, I don't see this policy as a breach of integrity which can warrant resignation. |
Odunnu: There's something I just learnt here Egbon. ![]() Na 7.5% of Basic, Housing and Transport. The % can be higher than 7.5 as a matter of voluntary coy decision and staff consent, but it still has to be applied on BHT only. In any case, you've only helped them save for the future. The overstated pension still belongs to them, only that they can only access it in the future. |
First, SLS is not interested in politics. He will not. He was never a politician. He used to be a critic at best. This is authoritative. Second, there is nothing new in President over ruling a Central Bank's decision. This is not a very fundamental decision like interfering in sacking criminals or shielding criminals. Currency redomination, to me, even if it doesn't adversely affect the economy, it's benefit(more efficient payment system) is not something that goes to the root of the economy, so I think it is reversible. This is not an integrity matter. And the hesitation the President displayed before finally succumbing to public outcry shows he had more confidence in SLS, but the reversal was due to political expediency. So I don't know what necessitates resignation here. It's not an integrity issue anyway. Economic policy giving way for socio-political consideration is not an aberration. The president has not asked him to do anything contrary to the law. Neither was the president protecting private interest by his action. |
While it is good to know all these stuffs, it is worse having to cram them before knowing them or memorizing them to an interview. I have undergone interviews with Total, Oando, Shell and a couple of other oil coys as well as being interviewed by Atedo Peterside and co, I have never come across this kind of questions. Not underplaying their relevance though. For me, the only extra thing I do before going for an interview is reading/researching about the company and where possible speaking to staff of that coy or someone that had undergone interview with them in the past. Then do a quick brush up of my knowledge of the role I'm to be interviewed for. Other general things, like the questions being discussed here, and other things like current affairs, will flow naturally. No tailor-made preparation. I especially like my interview to drift to current affairs - that's my most convenient turf! And like someone mentioned earlier in this thread, not all interview questions have yes or no answers. There are ways to couching what you don't know exactly and still impress |
According to PITAM 2011, this is the new Tax Table First 300k of Taxable Income taxed @ 7% Next 300k @ 11% Next 500k @ 15% Next 500K @ 19% Next 1.6m @ 21% Excess of 3.2m @ 24% From the info you gave, your friend's Taxable income is 3,200,000 + 5,180,000 = 8,380,000. Taxed as follows 7%*300k 11%*300k 15%*500k 19%*500k 21%*1.6m The income taxed above equals 3.2m, yet he still has 5.18m left which is taxed at 24%(the rate for income in exxcess of 3.2m). For a taxable income of 1,035,000(Note: Taxable Gross means Pension and other reliefs have been removed) 300k*7%=21,000 300k*11%=33,000 Remainder 435,000 (less than 500k) taxed at 15% = 65,250 Total Tax = 119,250 |
Nothing concern serious job interviewers with all these questions, at least in Nigeria. |
Are they not in Canada? I know one person that can help them out. He is very influential in Canada. In fact, when President Jonathan visited Canada, earthquake happened because GEJ did not visit this man. He is on Nairaland. Contact me and let me link you guys up with him. |
floriana: My opinion is that El-Rufai has taken things too far and that the statement is reckless. That is without prejudice to my other position that there are too many visionless persons working with. GEJ. But there certainly are a few more brains than SLS assuming he qualifies for one.I agree. Nasir is taking his anti-GEJ position too far. He doesn't have to go this low. I am not a big fan of GEJ and a huge fan of SLS, but I know Agriculture minister, Adesina, and a couple of other guys are also doing good job. Even Ngozi, I don't agree she is bad. |
The info you give is not sufficient, because you just grossed up other allowances without stating the components, especially Housing and Transportation (if any). I will work on some assumptions in helping you. MY ASSUMPTIONS The 50k is gross per month, not net i.e Tax and Pension have not been deducted Your housing allowance is 10k, Transport 5k Basic - 25,000 Housing - 10,000 Transport - 5,000 Others - 10,000 GROSS EMOLUMENT: 50,000 Convert to annual figures Basic - 25,000*12 = 300,000 Housing - 10,000*12 = 120,000 Transport - 5,000*12 = 60,000 Others - 10,000*12 = 120,000 GROSS ANNUAL EMOLUMENT = 600,000 Less Reliefs & Allowances(Per Annum) 1, Consolidated Relief Allowance = 200,000 plus 20% of your Gross Income = 200,000+20% 0f 600,000 = 320,000 2, Pension = 7.5% of Basic,Housing & Transport = 7.5%*(480,000) = 36,000 Total Annual Relief(i.e Non-Taxable income) = 356,000 TAXABLE INCOME = GROSS PAY - NON-TAXABLE = 600,000-356,000 = 244,000 TAX 1st 300,000 taxable @ 7% = 7% * 244,000 = 17,080 per annum = 1,423.33 per month Tax per month = 1,423.33 Net pay per month = Gross pay - pension - tax = 50,000-3,000-1,423.33 = 45,576.67 *Don't forget my assumptions pls |

This is my first Social Media post on this subject since the incident started. I have personally toned down on, perhaps stopped, discussing Islam and Muslims relations on Social Media, but prefer to discuss it through mainstream channels (Google my article, 'Bad Muslims and the rest of us', published in Guardian newspapers in April this year). Now, let me summarize my take on all these brouhaha 1, The action of the film maker offends the sensibility of Muslims. Take or leave, Muslims are required to love our religious figures especially Allah and His prophets. The worn-out narrative of 'can't your God defend Himself' does not hold water. Only a bastard will have his father cursed or insulted and not react. And to us, we love our God and prophets more than our parent. 2, Now, how do you react? Definitely not by killing innocent souls. No, doing that is another grave sin. I have no problem with the exact blasphemer being dealt it, but definitely not killing Chris Stevens or damaging American interests or maiming the innocent Christian in Maiduguri or Cairo or Kabul. At best, Muslims in far places can, as a matter of solidarity, stage peaceful protests. 3, On freedom on speech rhetoric, well, it's good to be free to talk, but freedom of speech ends when another person's sensibilities begin to be offended. Everyone knows the value Muslims place on their Prophet, does it cost anyone anything to leave us alone and respect our culture, our values. What benefit does the film maker stand to gain by doing such video or someone just waking up one day to announce that he will burn the Qur'an on X day? What do you stand to gain in that? 4, I personally think the world will be a better place if we all mutually respect our cultures, our sensibilities. And for the Muslims killing indiscrimately the world over, you're doing a great disservice to Islam and committing and committing sins, perhaps greater than those you claim you're defending Islam against. 5, Finally I am not moved by the drivels directed here and in other places. I honestly don't care about all such, call me a potential terrorist, a terrorist, a blood sucker, anything, I have outgrown such and has never faltered in my Islamic faith even in the midst of all the backlash. |
cheddarking: Jarus can you please explain 'Maclantunji'?Explain him as how how/ I don't get you. |
Am I correct to say, with this, only Aero is now operating on domestic routes? Na wa o. Spaces will now be so competitive that even if you book ahead and you dont get to airport thre hours before departure, you will lose your space. Na real wa. |
Desola: Oam4j has banned me a few times(well deserved if I must say) but I still appreciate him for his hardwork. He is a very good moderator.Coming from Iyalode Desola, I have to etch this in marble and hang on the wall of my room ![]() |
alienvirus: JARUS! OYA COMMENT ON THE ABOVELet's have your proof that he is a religious fanatic. |
Na wa o. Different strokes, as they say, for different folks. OAM4J to me still remains the most hardworking mod. The high-handedness a lot of folks here have accused him of, is very strange to me. I don't think any Mod is so power drunk that he/she will ban anyone just for the fun of it. There are express rules, just as Mods' discretion also comes into play in some cases. Having been modding this section for more than 2 years, I have personally developed thick skin to the accusations and insults I get from people, while of course checking myself for genuine criticisms too. The Ibos will call you pro-Yoruba, my good sisters, Ileke Idi and Desola, will call me Fulani sell-out, the PDP/GEJ people will say we are promoting Buhari/ACN interest, the ACN people will say NL has been bought by PDP, someone that posts long, copy & paste articles about Sanusi is caught by spambot and the next thing is Jarus is stifling anti-Sanusi threads. The contradictions are enough proof that the accusers need to check themselves more. I am actually surprised I got a fairly positive review on this thread, except the 'less-active' low-point, which I agree with, even if I have, these days, been doing more of modifying threads/posts, moving threads to right sections and attending to 'reported posts', leaving my hardworking partner with attending to complaints and others. All the same, at the risk of self-review bias, I still think there has been significant sanity in Politics section than years ago, having been active on this scetion for 5 years. |
alienvirus: OAM4J is a motherfuckering guy. He reperesents christian crusaders. Christians are known for this.Haba. This is unfair. You can accuse him of anything, but never religious or ethnic partiality. |
Na wa o. Some peope sit down in the corners of their rooms and fabricate tales. |
Browsing (Nairaland, Google and some sites I need to check on motion or quickly) Pinging, of course Receiving and sending office and personal emails Less often, internet banking That's virtually all, but I used my damaged Torch 2 for other things like storage and transmission of files, but my current Bold 4 is not so convenient for that. |
nagoma: Yes , the reference to politics in the first republic by SLS was to his grandfather the emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi but Emir Sanusi never supported an opposition party. Sanusi who was a friend and a beneficiary of the Sardauna was a Minister without portfolio in Northern Nigeria as from 1954 in the NPC cabinet. He (Muhammadu Sanusi) was the acting governor of Northern Nigeria in 1961 when Sir Gawain Bell left and before the appointment of Kashim Ibrahim. Emir Sanusi fell out with the Sardauna in areas political and religious (Tijjaniyya versus Usmaniyya) influence in the North and the conflict came to a head with the Northern Provincial Administration bill of 1962 . Emir Sanusi was deposed (actually retired ) and left the throne in 1963 before the recommendations of the Muffet committee report on Kano L.G. financial administration were implemented. Thanks for clarifying further. I knew the emir had issue with Sardauna, but didn't know exactly what caused the feud. |
No, don't quit. Quitters don't win. |
“When u come from my family and accept a title you cannot openly be in partisan politics. It is an unwritten law. Mistakes were made in the First Republic but since then avoided. Elaboration on bolded?
His grandfather, the then Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi, had a running issue with the then Sardauna-led Northern region, culminating in being deposed from his title as emir. That was in the first republic, in the sixties. I think the emir (Sanusi's grandpa) was supporting an opposition party, perhaps openly, leading to clashes with Sarduana's government. That's what he meant by the 'mistake of teh first republic' i.e royal family openly affiliating with a party. |
When I saw that story yesterday I dismissed it as just another fabrication planted into the media to discredit SLS, but it wasn't that easy to dismiss because that's not the first time SLS will be linked with presidential ambition in the media. Of course, I know SLS is a hard-sell, not because he isn't good for the job but because 1, he is a controversial personality 2, the myth of religious/ethnic bigotry hangs on his neck. Of course, he knows he is not popular, even in the north(and frankly doesnt care about popularity. Even at the height of his popularity in 2009 or early 2010, I remember him responding to a newspaper interviewer that asked him whether he will be interested in presidency later, that he was not interested, and emirship of Kano is his ultimate ambition. But beyond that, the SLS I know wont engage in partisan politics. He prefers to be a critic, as he has always been since university days. He is too impatient and uncompromising to be involved in partisan politics. He will just scatter anything. At least I know he wont give bribe. Buhari remains the North's most popular politician, all the Sanusis and El-Rufais of this world may not even win a guber election even in their home states. |
The Central Bank Governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, has denied reports linking him with a presidential ambition at the instance of a political party, Congress for Progressive Change CPC. He was reacting to reports that CPC is gunning for him as a presidential candidate on the party’s platform. He spoke via an online medium, Ra’ayi Riga. “I have just seen this story. Let me repeat for the umpteenth time that no one in CPC has ever discussed this with me and I don’t believe it is true. There is an orchestrated attempt to paint a picture of me with political ambitions for two reasons: first it feeds into a narrative of disloyalty. “The narrative says because I am a northerner and a Muslim appointed by UMYA I am not loyal to GEJ. This why somebody as senior as a Chairman Of Senate Rules Committee Senator Enang can claim that currency redenomination is a ploy by SLS to bring down GEJ in a serious newspaper interview. The second is a group in Government that wants to discredit the CBN so that any independent critical views expressed are labeled political. “When u come from my family and accept a title you cannot openly be in partisan politics. It is an unwritten law. Mistakes were made in the First Republic but since then avoided. The institution belongs to all Kano people and joining one party alienates supporters of another. One has to choose between political ambitions at federal or state level and the love and unity of Kano people. I made my choice long ago and everyone knows it but it won’t stop the fabricators from doing what they are good at. “I repeat that I am not in partisan politics, I have no desire to contest for elective office and the story is false as far as I know,” he said. http://leadership.ng/nga/articles/35164/2012/09/19/sanusi_denies_nursing_presidential_ambition.html |

I wonder why our politicians fail to learn one simple lesson since the first republic: nobody can win presidential election on tribal platform in Nigeria. This has been proved again and again. |
I mentioned while advising someone trying to choose btw Access job and Msc Portsmouth on a recent thread that banking job, especially in an unstable, slave-driving bank like Access is laden with uncertainty |
I don't like Atiku. Too greedy to me. I still prefer GEJ to him. Of course, Buhari remains my man. |
