NAJALYN: @ Jarus "Political ignoramus. It was one of the pdp rivals to GEJ that said that not Buhari." Hear yourself. You are not even making sence. You are twisting the story because you are a fan of Buhari. You definitly are the political ignoramus. Please get your facts right in future, its in your own interest. @Demdem, how old are you? You should run along and go read your books since all you know how to do best is to insult others.
Why not prove me wrong by telling us when Buhari said it and on what occasion.

This is another reason I select who I engage in Nairaland political discussion. Imagine something as recently as last year. Was it not Atiku that said all that at the height of his contest with GEJ for PDP ticket, including 'those who oppose peaceful change will see violent one' or something to that effect (even though that statement was an adaptation of a statement by a former American president, I think)?

Freecocoa can u back me up?[/quote]Garinomics is actually not a new phenomenon on Nairaland, it only ganied currency recencytl Far back 2008 I saw comments asking how something affected the price of garri. I think Pataki was the leading protagonist then. But it wasn't this common then.

Personally, I don't think someone deserves ban for asking how something affects the price of garri. I see it as an unavoidable comic in even serious threads and even beyind comic, it can be a genuine question to show that dissipating our energy on some things are needless.

I think the way BD worded her comment made it easy for anyone to read motive to it. She could have made same point without being so vituperative.

After all, some of us have mentioned earlier in the thread that it is not only in oil companies that you can have a decent career and living. I even gave an example of someone I knew that has had all his career in an investment banking insitution and today better off than most of his friends that started in the Shells of this world. Oil coy guys usually have this tendency of frittering away their income on ostentation in their early career due to this big boy syndrome, while their colleagues with lower income in other sector are living modestly and saving.

Alxmyr: Are you saying he was quoted out of context?
The writer of the article never said Buhari gaffed. He simply quote his words. what is the big deal there.
You read meaning to it as it suits you and then let others form their opinion on it. Where is unfairness of Nigerian media in all these?
Why is that the headline of all he said? Everyone knows the intent is to label Buhari a bigot.

Politics › Re: The Only Thing Sacrosanct In Nigeria Is The Qur'an-buhari by Jarus(m): 10:45pm On Aug 30, 2012
Honestly, the Nigerian media has been very very unfaur to Buhari. Everything he says is always taken out of context and sensationalized.

We all refer to something as 'Bible of something', meaning excellent reference in a field e.g that book is the bible of journalism. Similar for 'mecca of sorts' which we all know what it means.

Here was a man addressing people in the Muslim state of Kano, saying everything has been altered except Qur'an. Does it take extra-ordinary intelligence for anyone to know that what he meant is that the only thing that has not been changed is what is dearest to Kano people. If GEJ for example has said that to people of Rivers, who are all Christians, using Bible in this case, would this have made this kind of headline?. Let's be faiir to this man for once.
Politics › Re: Buhari To Northern Governors: Tackle Boko-haram Insecurity by Jarus(m): 10:32pm On Aug 30, 2012
danjohn: I am a Buhari supporter but I still believe that Buhari has not handled the situation of violence in the North well enough. I think the reason is because Buhari is surrounded by HORRIBLE political operatives. Buhari has the worst political staff in the world. Whoever managed his campaign in 2011 needs to be sued for political malpractice. After the 2011 election, when the violence broke out in the North, Buhari had an opportunity to rehabilitate his public perception but he squandered it.

When violence broke out in the North after the election, nobody could talk to the angry almajiris who were killing youth corpers, Jonathan could not talk to them, neither could Sambo, or even the Sultan of Sokoto. Everybody was calling for Buhari to calm down his supporters. Everybody was asking "WHERE IS BUHARI?" But what did Buhari do, he had an interview with BBC where he said didnt support the violence. I was like "what the f*ck?" How many Nigerians watch BBC?

Rham Emmanuel, the mayor of Chicago, once said that "we should never let a crisis go to waste." Leaders emerge during a crisis. In my honest opinion, after violence broke out in 2011, Buhari should have requested for a 30 minutes timeslot to give a national address at 8:30 pm right before network news. Given how tense the situation was in the country, nobody would have denied him such a request.

He should have stood in front of 5 Nigerian Flags and with a very somber voice; he should have said something along the lines of the following:

"My fellow citizens, I speak to you tonight, not as the Presidential candidate of the CPC, but as a citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. What we have seen happen in the last 24 hours has been heartbreaking. We have seen husbands lose wives, fathers lose sons, mothers lose daughters, and brothers lose sisters. We have heard stories of pastors who watched their churches burn, traders who abandoned their goods and fled with nothing but the clothes on their backs, and mothers of youth corpers who stay awake every night wondering whether their children will return home from the North alive. As a father, grandfather, and husband, I empathize with every individual who has lost a loved one in this crisis.

When I decided to run for President, I did so because I was called by my faith, my upbringing, and my love for this country to do everything within my capacity to make Nigeria great again.

During the campaign, I was touched by the millions of people who rallied around our cause. I was touched by the stories I heard from people who made personal sacrifices simply because they believed in the ideals which gave birth to this campaign. Unfortunately, despite our best effort, our quest to win the Presidency did not succeed.

I would like to use this opportunity to call on every Nigerian who supported our campaign to join hands with the current administration to help move our beloved country forward. I would like to call on all of my supporters, who have taken up arms to express their grievances, to put their weapons away.

At the end of the day, we must remember that our campaign for President was a cause driven by our desire to make Nigeria a better place. We must remember that we weren’t running for President of Northern Nigeria, neither were we running for President of Southern Nigeria, we were running for President of Nigeria; and our mission was to use the Presidency as a platform to uplift the lives of every Nigerian.

Our campaign was designed to unite Nigeria, not to divide her. Our mission was to rally Southerners and Northerners around the common cause of building our country. To all of my supporters, I want you to know that the killing of unarmed defenseless innocent people serves no purpose but to widen the divide that already exists in our country.

In the next couple of days, I will consult with leaders of my party to determine what to do next, with the best interest of our country and our party guiding my way. If we find any reason to doubt the validity of the election results, we will express our grievances through peaceful and civilized channels.

Although I do not know if I will ever seek the Presidency again, I do know that I will devote the rest of my life to the causes that were at the heart of our campaign. Thank you so much for listening to this message. May God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

I do believe that a message like this was what Nigeria needed after the election. I really wish I worked for the Buhari campaign in 2011.
I am also a great fan of Buhari and I agree with you to a large extent. Politics apart, I believe Buhari can leverage on the love the people have for him in the north to intervene in this crisis. But the risk is the government he is trying to help will come back and say he is the cause, that's why he has their ears, meanwhile it's just out of pure love these people(if not BH themselves, BH sympathisers and non-BH related violence perpetrators). So to that extent I don't blame him.

NAJALYN: Utter rubbish. Buhari threatened to make Nigeria ungovernable if pdp won the election. All the while boko haram has been killing innocent Nigerians, where was he? Asking Northern Governors to tackle boko haram insecurity is certainly an after-thought. He should go hide himself in shame.
Political ignoramus. It was one of the PDP rivals to GEJ that said that not Buhari.

sharubutu: I'm a great fan of Gen. Buhari. But, why must he always bring up religious issues when discussing politics? What's the correlation between the Holy Quran and the activities of INEC?
He was speaking metaphorically. I am a Muslim and I do refer to something as the 'bible' of something (meaning: excellent reference). Many Christians also use the word 'Mecca of sorts' which means popular, go-to. He was addressing Kano people(arguably headquarters of Muslims in Nigeria) and by that he was referring to what they held dearest. I'm sure you won't have raised that issue if Okorocha refers to Bible while speaking at an event in Imo.

sauer: I think a difference has to be made between which Total is involved. Recently I got an offer from Total downstream on Afribank street in VI. The offer was just a little less, including all benefits with the damnation of being posted to any state of the federation. I rejected this offer cos I got something better elsewhere.
So, it kinda amazes me to see the figures quoted here. Perhaps they only apply to Totol grin upstream
I mentioned the difference in pay scale earlier in this thread. Check.

The 11m thingy is for upstream Total E&P. Their downstream pay, for entry level, is in the region of 4m. Oando is also in that range. With 4 years experience in downstream Oando, Total Nigeria Plc (downstream) also offered me 6 earlier this year, but I rejected it. Yet, they and Oando are still the industry leader in terms of pay in the marketing industry, at least at non-management level. Conoil, Zenon pay ridiculous amounts. Forte is enticing people with plum offer now and poaching people from Oando etc, but I see it as a bubble they may not be able to sustain, not with Femi Otedola.

The total that is being discussed here in E&P.

Whether he copied it or originated it, I don't think that matters. The article is on point and captures what happens in the workplace. It is useful and helps to call our consciousness to some things that matter.

Informal gists about goings-on in the office can be very interesting. I knew what was going on in virtually every department. Sometimes when we opened behind-the-scene gists(in our informal circle) about the office, some uninitiated will start asking 'in this same office?'. Sit down there. But in office, you do your job as if you don't know what's going on.

All the political moves, all the positioning, all the fights, all the beefs, all the favoured, all the hated, all the runs people, all the fakers.

My former company was more political than the current one. I was practically a politician there. Grew in few years to become one of the most powerful non-management staff in that office(especially in my department where we were up to 40). Easily got away with what others will do and not get away with. I abused it though grin

I agree with all the never-dos mentioned. They are very important, if not critical.

A lot of times I almost fell for that no 1: (discussing a colleague with another colleague), before gaining my senses and nipping it.

It can be very dangerous.

Same thing with discussing your boss with another colleague.

I know it happens among many people. For example, just yesterday, one of my distant colleagues(same dept but different unit) was asking in front of another colleague that 'when did you join this company that you're been sent on foreign training' while the other close colleague(who shares same boss with me, and joined earlier than I did) in whose presence the first one asked me that question also interjected 'he is very powerful now'.

Instantly, I knew these guys had grudges with my being sent on training and had discussed me in my absence! I knew they had beef with me for being sent on training while they, who had been in the system before me, had not been. This was the same person I almost, off-guard, wanted to open discussion on our boss with sometime ago. I thank God I didn't do.

But all these things are normal office politics and it's a game you should know how to play.
