@OP, I don't see how Sanusi's statement you quoted amounts to Sanusi not believing in his own approach. If anything, you are the one working from answer to question. You wanted to make a claim and you are 'buttressing' it with a statement that doesn't support your claim. |
@Abeem et al, Sanusi had that 131,000 units of share as at year end march 09, b4 becoming CBN guv. He divested immediately he became CBN guv to avoid conflict of interest. As I write now he doesn't av shares in FBN again. |
welcome yemi 22. @fellis, used to tink u were Lagos-based. Wia u dey? As rgds d pics, if odas r ok wt it,we'll put d pix hia. It's gonna be a consensus decision to be taken dia. |
Ibrodex, welcome. @alimat2, we've not fixed date and time. Is next week Friday or Saturday(Ramadan 7 or 8 ) evening okay? Is Mamacass restaurant @ Ajose Adeogun street,VI, okay? There is a mosque just opposite, inside Zenon House, wia we can say our moghrib. Suggestions are welcomed |
Javalove brings signed-in to 4. More. Abuzola, wia U dey? Femi aburo mi, ma worry, a ma made l'Offa nigba ileya insha Allah. |
wow, this must be a trying moment for you bankers! |
@skillworks , I want to believe that is a fabrication. @topic My 3 year old nephew came to holiday wt us a couple of months ago. He now entered grandma's room one night when there was no light and found grandma changing, at d point wia her cloth covered her face. he just screamed and ran bak to sitting room, claiming he saw ojuju. Grandma came out to tell her she was d one he saw, but to no avail. The boy refused to enter dat room in 4 days and insisting there was ojuju in grandma's room. All efforts by everyone to convince him proved abortive. I even told him ojuju is just imaginary but he refused to listen to everyone |
I go like this: 1,Weah 2,Eto'o 3,Milla 4,Abedi 5,Drogba 6,Yeboah 7,Kanu 8,Okocha 9,Essien 10,Raber Madja |
u resumed as cbn governor and in a month thereabout., u discover these "rot" in the system?Soludo also came up with consolidation less than two months after resuming as CBN guv. Maybe you expect him to act after two years. |
who is the Delta state- born Igbo speaking lady? Cecilia Ibru? She isnt Urhobo again? abi Urhobo are Igbo speaking?
i also don't know who the poster(or article writer) was referring to as "Delta state- born Igbo speaking " but since the pronoun 'she' followed and Cecilia is teh only sacked female CEO, I concluded it was Cecilia? |

The Sanusi debate is getting more and more interesting and I'm liking it. I belong to the pro-Sanusi camp and let me answer your questions: Edoji:Do you know what Erastus Akingbola did in just one day of getting hint of his impending removal? Did you read of his spirited move to stop Sanusi. The rush to Obj. Do you know he, and indeed others, could have successfully stopped Sanusi through high level politicking if he delayed the pronouncement further? Currently, according to Sanusi, there has been high-level pressure from traditional rulers, politicians, powerful businessmen on Yar'adua to tell him to reverse the sack. This is Nigeria. If he delayed the actions, he should forget about it altogether. Is Sanusi Lamido Sanusi on a vendetta against this “Delta State-born Igbo-speaking boss” and her cohorts for leading the campaign against his candidacy as the CBN Governor? Why was your “Delta State-born Igbo-speaking boss” campaigning against Sanusi? Did she have skeleton in her cupboard? Was she afraid? In any case, Sanusi had not been seeing eye to eye with most of his co-CEOs before strictly on professional grounds. Sanusi is a conservative banker with zero tolerance for unethical practices. They knew him before, they knew he was a non-nonsense guy. Some even made attempt to soil his name by accusing him of demarketing while as FBN GMD. Was Sanusi properly briefed on the effect his action would have on investor’s confidence on our economy and its banking system?Yes, the effects are a small price to pay in the short to medium term. Compare this to the effects of the impending collapse of the system. There is hardly any economic policy that doesn't have one or two prices, especially in the short run. Finally, was due process followed in sacking the bank bosses?Which due process was breached? |
Mine likely to come up before end of next year, God-willing. Initially, I wanted it big, given the array of friends I have, but this wish has fizzled out. I don't want a large, elaborate one again, but not too small sha. Maybe all my family, necessary people in her family, my close friends, her close friends, and a couple of colleagues, all not more than 100, expenses not more than N1m. |
Signed in: Jarus, oyb,alimat2 @ Abuzola, what are you saying? @Muhsin, we'll jam in Kano one of these days insha Allah |

Welcome Ramadan, welcome holy month. If you stay in Lagos, sign in for Nairalanders Iftaar: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-312681.0.html |
Beaf:Before he even modified the topic, he claimed the entire Ibru business was built on stolen wealth, until facts were presented before him that Ibru empire had been existing far before Cecilia's Oceanic bank. Let's give credit to the Ibru family. They have done and are still contributing their own to our economy. The monopoly claim is most ironic. Their businesses are just like any other businesses. They are not even known for hobnobbing with the government like the Dangotes, Otedola,Jimoh Ibrahims and co. |
Jarus in, oyb for it. Any other person signing in? |
I learnt she's not in good terms with Oscar. Who knows? |
I can't recall their specific moves, but I remember Adekanye accusing Onosode of betrayal. Secondly,as non-executive board members, they can easily get away with it. I read Adekanye's account in his book PRESUMED GUILTY in 2001, so can't recall the details wt exactitude again. Dad had those books then but not sure I can still lay my hands on them again. |
@otokx,I have also said that. That is why I said we need to isolate Cecilia from Ibru dynasty. The family has not done anything wrong. |
Assalaamu alaikum my brothers and sisters, We thank Allah for making us witness yet another Ramadan and pray He makes it easy for us to maximize the benefit therein. I'm mooting the idea of having Nairalanders iftaar for those of us in Lagos, although it's a pity that most of the active contributors here are not Lagos residents. I'm very serious and will inshaAllah foot the bill. At least I know oyb,Abuzola, fellis, dominique and a few new or fringe Muslim Nairalanders are Lagos-based. Javalove is also usually in and out of Lagos. This will also provide an opportunity to meet other Muslim Nairalanders face to face. DATE :Let's suggest a date. But I think Friday or Saturday evening will be better. TIME: Iftaar time is of course around 7pm but convergence can start from 6pm VENUE: Option 1-Any eatery can be selected, but I'll suggest Mama Cass in VI,given its spaciousness. Option 2: I am ready to host everybody at my Ajah apartment, but Ajah is somehow far, and the heavy traffic obstacle on people's way home. So any idea on making this a reality? And who is interested? NB: Since this topic has been 'home-paged', let us interprete some Islamic terms used here to the non-Muslims who may just be curious. Iftaar means breaking of fast. Monghrib is sunset salat(prayer). 1ST EDITION - 2009: PAGES 1-8 2ND EDITION - 2010: PAGES 8-18 3RD EDITION - 2011: PAGES 18 - Turn to page 21 for Mainland edition. 4TH EDITION - 2012: Page 23 5TH EDITION - 2013: Page 39 Planning has commenced NB: Please go to page 44 for current edition, SEASON 5. |
I do not subsribe to rubbishing the Ibru family for Cecilia's undoing. Cecilia is even a wife, not a daughter of the family. The family patriach is Olorogun Michael, now in his eighties, an insightful, industrious man, that worked his way into money in the 1940s. He started with petty trading and now has multi-billion naira family business, which you mentioned above. Having made it early and out of selflessness, the young Michael Ibru sent his younger siblings to best-in-town schools, and got them educated abroad. He nurtured them and today we have all of them doing well, including Felix Ibru(Senator, ex-governor), Alex Ibru(ex-minister and publisher of Guardian), Richard Ibru and Donald Ibru, not to forget his son, Oscar Ibru. So please, all the companies you mentioned above are owned by one or more of the Ibru brothers, but most by their patriach, Michael. Most have been around even before Oceanic; we therefore cannot conclude that they were started with stolen millions. At least, Guardian was established in 1982. The man is now very old and has his wife, Cecilia, managing them. That is why I, for one, have never respected Cecilia(she doesn't need my respect really) the way I respect the likes of Fola Adeola, Atedo Peterside and even Erastus(at least Intercontinental bank was Erastus idea from scratch). Oceanic bank is not her baby, just a family business she's put in charge and could have been anybody. We should be grateful to the Ibrus, especially their patriach, for contributing their quota to the industrialization of Nigeria and employing tens of thousands of people. |
PapaBrowne:Another dimension. . . . |
It has never been a secret that the Otedolas, Dangotes, Jimoh Ibrahims and other billionaires owe banks. In fact, there is hardly any billionaire, the world over, that is not indebted to bank. For example, it will be most fooolish of Dangote to finance that Obajana project from his pocket when he can easily get loans from bank. Borrowing is normal business practice but defaulting is the issue. But after factoring out their liabilities(debts), their net-worth are still in billions. They are therefore still rich. |
mightlove:OK. Taken. But I'm too sure Sanusi will not pursue any sectional agenda. Sanusi used to be number critic of the northern oligarch before his ascension to CBN guvship. SLS is an independent-minded professional and an activist. |
kokoA:That is why the Akingbolas and the Ibrus should thank God their own yansh were not opened during military era. |
I am a Kwaran and a Yoruba but I don't bother myself with all these ramblings. I have explained my own understanding of the situation over and over again when this topic is raised on NL. We have been called fools, illiterates etc for allowing Saraki rule us, but I personally don't care. I'm a Yoruba from Kwara, and a northerner, as long as Kwara is officially north. All these regional, political, ethnic and geographical classifications dont add or take anything away from me. |
Affalatus:Faintly recall hearing this issue somewhere? Who was Nike Ayilara? |
spikedcylinder:That is the funniest thing about him. he doesn't know he is funny. He makes those funny posts seriously and passionately |
MrCrackles:His Ikoyi and London homes had been sold but his Kwara countryhome is still there, though not well maintained and has lost its lushness! |
