@ Ibime, xavier and co, Let me finish my initial arguments for. I will take your refutations, and that of Davidylan, one by one. |
CAREER: Lecturer, Economics Department, ABU, 1981-1983 ICON Merchant bank 1983-1991, rose to become Area Manager before leaving voluntarily for Sudan UBA: Principal Mgr 1 (May 1997), Principal Mgr 2(Jan 1998), AGM(December 1998), DGM(Jan 2002), GM(March 2005) First Bank: Executive Director, 2006, Group Managing Director(2008) CBN: Governor(June 2009) Point 3: SLS came back from Sudan with a degree in Sharia and a bank like UBA immediately offered him Principal Mgr. For UBA, then highly respected and being run by the whizkid Keem Bello Osagie, to have ignored the irrelevance of his degree and six years in Sudan and offer him such a position, they must have seen something in him. UBA is not a northern bank the alst time I checked. Point 4: His rapid promotion could not be as a result of his being a prince, there must be something merit-based behind it. In other words he is a performer. There are other Southern folks in UBA with degrees from top schools in Europe and US, but that only got them the job, cannot do the job for them. No disrespect to these guys, just trying to drive home a point. Point 5:At a time when you had to lobby before getting a high position, even in the private sector, Sanusi just got a call from First bank to come and be an Executive Director and fix their credit risk management. He had already built a strong risk management culture in UBA, and recognising that he's the system's best brain in this aspect, FBN had to lobby him to bail them out by offering him an ED. Isn't this ingenuity? Guys, let's be objective and for once shed our impression that nothing good can come from a Hausa/Fulani man. Point 6Sanusi had barely spent up to two years in FBN when he was appointed MD, ahead of other Directors from the South, who had even spent more years on board, and some having been with FBN for decades. Oba Otudeko, the highest shareholder in FBN is from Ogun state and raised in Ibadan. The Obafoluke I know will not support the emergence of a mediocre to the no 1 position in his bank(literally, he has the highest voting right). In other words, there must be something good in this Sanusi. Point 7: UBA and FBN are no small banks, and they are no northern banks. If this man had not been an aboki(apology once again), all of us would have accepted he's a genius. |
Let's start by taking a cursory look at Sanusi's background: EDUCATION: St Anne Primary School, Kaduna King's College, Lagos ABU Zaria, BSc Economics(1981). Msc Economics (1983) Let's forget about the Sudan degree. He decided to do so at 30, for personal reasons, probably to become Emir of kano in the future, being a prince. Point 1: He had a sound primary and secondary education, not the typical aboki(apology to the Hausa/Fulani here). Compare the calibre of people that attended KC. Even in the SW then the best brains went for KC. That means right from his secondary school days, he had been competing with the best brains from Lagos. Point 2: ABU was and is still as good and respected as UNN, Unilag, OAU and UI. You will definitely not dismiss with a wave of hand a graduate of these schools, especially of the 60s-80s. If Soludo's Economics degrees from UNN are respected and oft-quoted, Sanusi's degrees UNN deserve equal respect. Yes, Soludo had First Class/Distinction and the only First Class SLS had was the Sudan degree, but you will not disagree with me that classes of degree, especially for 1-1 and 2-1 that are close, do not automatically reflect one's ability, especially beyond exams. By the special grace of God, I am a First Class Economics degree holder myself, but I am not ashamed to confess here that I know a couple of my classmates that have better grasp of Economics than me but made 2-1. More coming. . .don't want to bore you with very long single post |
davidylan:Let's go and debate this here: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-302810.0.html |
This thread is a debate between myself and Davidylan. I made the above claim in another thread and davidylan challenged me. In order to avoid derailing the thread, I have dragged him here for debate. Intellectual, fact-based contributions, by other nairalanders, for or against my assertion, will also be welcome. This is not a tribal, political or religious war and I expect mature postings. If you don't have anything meaningful to post, please do not post. I promise to recant my statement if David brings superior arguments. This is the introduction and my next post will contain an indepth analysis of my assertion. Let's go. . . |
The CBN governor, who had Bsc in Economics and after two decades had another one-year-and-two-degree in Sharia in a war ravaged Sudanese cleric school and under the quota system he became CBN governor.^^^Please let's stop this armchair analysis. Do you know anything about the man Sanusi at all? While paper qualification cannot be totally dismissed, it does not in any way connote competence. SLS matches the best brains in the south in banking and economic sholarship. Like Sanusi, past CBN governors, except Soludo and maybe Paul Ogwuma, were drawn from banking sector and none had more than Masters degree, which Sanusi also has in Economics(ABU,1983). If CBN governorship had been zoned to a region as educated as South-West, he will easily rank up there among the top 3 the region can offer. Dare to challenge me? Let's open a new thread. |
The actions of Boko Haram is most condemnable and this I have said in the other thread. It is borne out of misguided interpretation of Islam. There is nothing wrong in western education. What is not good for a Muslim is complete abandon of the knowledge of Islam. Apart from the ABC of Islam we learnt at home while growing up, I learnt the bulk of what I know in Islam today through reading books written in English, and some of my favourite Islamic scholars are from Jamaica(Bilal Philips and Abdulah Faisal) and I read their books in English, a language I learnt through education. Islam encourages us to seek any knowledge that can be beneficial to us, from science to arts, ICT etc. Impermissible(non-beneficial) knowledge includes magic etc. You can learn from anybody, irrespective of faith, in as much as that knowledge is good to sustain your live or protect your faith. We even have accounts of Prophet's(PBUH) companions that learnt from Jews and Christians. Boko Haram's claim, therefore, is sheer extremism and has no place in Islam. Even worse is the fact that they are seeking to enforce this on other people. |
I think this swap is a great opportunity to compare the two players. Much has been said about both of them, even here on NL. Let's wait till the end of this season and compare Eto'o's return at Inter with Ibra's, and compare Ibra's return in Barca with what Eto'o had. Eto'o had 29 goals in his first season in Inter. Let's see if Ibracadabra will match this. Ibra had 22 goals in his first season in Inter, Let's see what Eto'o will return. My personal opinion, currently, is that Ibra is more skilful but Eto'o is deadlier. We are waiting. . . |
I register my condemnation of the actions of Boko haram in its entirety and call for justice. It's barbarous and uncouth. |
Oga Jarus u still dey?
What a coincidence? Honestly, just few minutes ago I was thinking on where you had been? I checked your Ribadufan profile(Seun's given ID to you, which you rejected). I'm on NL almost 24/7 but I have not been frequenting politics section again, most of the current topics have not been catching my attention. Furthermore, I've been made the Mod of the Muslims section, and I spent most of my time now settling disputes in the section. asha 80:Another coincidence. Just few minutes ago I was also wondering where Muza, Auwal87,Mai-suya and other active Hausa folks have been. Nairaland-googled their names and saw that all but Mai Suya were as still very much around as posting today, only that we've not been crossing paths. |

Do we need Haruna Ilerika in the Super eagles? |
It's never too late. A friend of mine(with a degree in Yoruba) takes an ajebutta lady that just came back from UK Yoruba, for a fee. The lady had her education in UK and is the daughter of a popular SAN in Nigeria, who I wont name. The lady, who should be in her thirties, is a lawyer as well, and felt she needed to learn her mother tongue,Yoruba. She employs my friend to be teaching her and the guy goes to their chamber in Ikoyi to take her. So it's never too late. Face it. |
I see Kaka outshining CR9 |
Alhamdulilah for the guy. . . . |
Why was he just knowing on wedding? These are things dat Shd av been discussed b4 wedding day. |
Bird. Can't recall the model, but it was so fanciful then, colour screen, flip phone, bought at N21,000. |
Any Nupe nairalander, especially from Bida, to enlighten me on their culture, especially with respect to marriage. I laboured so hard on marrying a Nupe lady I love but unfortunately, tribal difference stalled the plan. We met during service year and started as normal friends, but much as we love ourselves, I was not able to get her family approval for marriage, simply because I am Yoruba and her family can't give her to a Yoruba man. Both of us are practising Muslims and we are very compatible in many respects. |
nisot23:I kuku dey around. I still follow the thread but hardly contribute. |
It's another Jum'ah. Barka Jumuah to the NL Muslim ummah and all Muslims across the world!!! |
Noted. Jazakumullahu khaeran. Why not let's continue here: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-288134.0.html ? |

@ Muslimah, Assalaamu aliaikum waramatullahi wabarakatuhu. On behalf of all Muslims in NL, I welcome you to the family of NL Muslims. |
MrCrackles:u don c my post again, after just five minutes. . . .r u on every section, indeed every thread, at the same time? ![]() Just joking really. I know you play footie in addition to your work as an Engineer(or is it project management)? |
I majorly frequent and participate in religion, politics, Nairaland, sports and education sections, and fringely participate in other sections. My pick will therefore be based on where I know. Also, I want to believe favourite is not necesarily the same as most intelligent. A poster can be a favourite because of other things like humour, analytical skills, etc MALE: -Debosky His posts are usually intelligent and matured, even when joking. He has class. -Olabowale Needless to explain why I pick him -MrCrackles His posts are usually short, but he's everywhere and ever present on NL. Sometimes I wonder whether he does any other thing than nairalanding. -Becomrich I follow this guy around to see the latest from his bottomless repertoire of humour. Anytime I want a good laugh, I just open NL and search for his post. He never fails to disappoint. -TKB His contributions are usually enlightening and informed. -Dayokanu I like his one-man-battalion style in sports section FEMALE -Cristalz I like the way she moderates NL sports section -Funmi Deepzone Troublesome as she is, I like to engage her in discussions. Is she still on NL? |
smile4kenn:Wetin u dey use am for? |
Lagosboy:I love this name too. |
Why not. I will get married, latest by the end of 2010, insha Allah. |
hadancome:Wetin concern me with that? Go open a thread in NL forum asking for it. I'm sorry I can't help you here. Musulumi l'emi. Emi koni siwaju nibi ti won tin bo Sango ati Obatala. |
