I never heard d name Sanusi Lamido until his appointment as FBN GMD last year but he won me over after researching on him. In fact, I'm currently lying on the sofa writing my second article on him: ENTER SANUSI THE SANITY HARBINGER. To get it published b4 week runs out.

Thanx Dayo. That article was published in The Punch and Vanguard in July 2007.

I'm also interested in knowing you. I'll do a small research on you too.

@beaf,
Stop embarrassing urself wt ur Pa Jimoh argument. The enabling law is BOFIA(an act). It was BOFID(decree) b4 d 2003 amendment.

How on earth can a schooled person not know that CB has the power to sack bank CEO? Isn't ds well known? I'm disappointed @ pple putting fwd ds argument.
As regards dose arguing dat BOFIA was IBB's decree, fyi, it was amended in 2O03 and from BOFID(decree) it was changed to BOFIA(Act)

@topic,
I will try and get Vanguard later ds morning to see weda d article is d official opinion of the newspaper or an external article they published. I don't av any problem wt Vanguard for suspecting there is more to it than meet the eyes, but the Sanusi Lamido I know can not be a pawn in some people's political chess game. And moreover, anybody deeply following events in Nigerian banking system will know what Akingbola & Cecilia have been doing.Even a senior oga formerly wt Oceanic confirmed Mama's sharp practices. As for Akingbola, he should resign as CIBN president. I don't trust Jim Zenith and Tony UBA too. Jim has been strongly warned though.
Business › Re: CBN Sacks CEOs And Management Of Five Banks by Jarus(m): 12:12am On Aug 15, 2009
Being an insider, Sanusi was actually aware of dese sharp practices, while in d system but didn't av power to correct. He did not join, and efforts were made to smash him, esp wt d accusation, earlier ds yr, dat he was behind the pervasive demarketing, real or imagined, being talked about then

Come to VI annex(after city of David) and see Akingbola's properties, series of sprawling, state-of-the-architecture estates on a whole street. The properties will worth no less than 10billion? Mortgage obviously from intercontinental.
Business › Re: CBN Sacks CEOs And Management Of Five Banks by Jarus(m): 9:48pm On Aug 14, 2009
Part of Ibru's abracadabra:
Many Oceanic bank buildings are held on lease/rent: Guess who is the property's owner? Ibru as a person. Guess where she raised loan to finance the property? Oceanic bank!
She(in any person or entity name) will obtain loan from bank, say N2billion, build a building, rent out same to Oceanic bank at say N500m per annum. She collects rent from bank and in four years, she would have recouped the 2 billion, and pay bank back the loan. Subsequent rent goes into madam's private purse.

Sorry for my Pa Jimoh analysis. Na wetin one top Oceanic bank guy wey dey my company now as senior mgt staff talk be dat o grin
Business › Re: CBN Sacks CEOs And Management Of Five Banks by Jarus(m): 9:23pm On Aug 14, 2009
My only reservation is on the guys Sanusi appointed to temporarily take charge.
He can find people of better pedigree.
Other than Funke Osibodu and Lai Alabi, I can't remember ever coming across others' names. . . but of course, my not knowing them or their not being household name in banking industry doesn't mean they are incompetent. I know Lai Alabi very well(to a personal level, being a family friend, from neighbouring village). He is a seasoned banker, rose through the ranks in Union bank to become ED(commercial). When Wema bank was having problems and their MD suspended, he was made the MD pending the time the bank's issues were resolved, before he finally handed over to Segun Oloketuyi(ex-Skye bank ED) as substantive GMD.

Funke(an Ife Economics grad) was calling the shots in one of the 89 banks before the M&As  but her bank did not pass the consoludation test. This is a stain and I don't think Sanusi should have used her.

i have no idea about others.

This is a great decision only few people would not have hesitated to take. Sanusi did a great job. When SLS hinted of the bank audit exercise, I knew a lot of abracadabras going on in banks would be blown open but I never knew it could get to the extent of sacking these super CEOs. We only hope that Yar'adua will give Sanusi free hands. The man is a strict disciplinarian and a complete no-nonsense man. Sacking his colleagues is no small decision. Akingbola tried to stop him by prevailing on Obj but to no avail.

It was an open secret that all was not yet well with our banks.  I'm not canvassing for any bank, but if there is any bank I can vouch for it's cleanness(or at least near-cleanness) it has to be GTB, that is if the strong corporate governance built by Fola Adeola has not collapsed.

All these Intercontinental and Oceanic banks will now let us hear words on their market leadership noises, while the rating institutions that have been awarding both of them Nigeria's best banks will now know that there is more to it than those cooked results.

Now First Bank will easily lead the market by miles, and with strong warning to Zenith, it will also thread softly.

With this, Sanusi has won more fans. I can't wait to read the analyses and commentaries of newspaper columnists and analysts in the next two weeks.
Politics › Re: 'If CBN Guv Was Zoned To S/West, Sanusi Would Have Made Top 3 Candidates' Jarus by Jarus(op): 7:51pm On Aug 14, 2009
It's just a pity many people knew nothing about Sanusi. I was forced to write this when I got to know who he was: http://www.thisdayonline.com/nview.php?id=147240%20-
Now many people will know that SLS is not the next gworo-chewing aboki, to use haters words. I'm not ruling out derailment, neither am I vouching for his perfection, but I will never fail to say it anywhere that SLS is competent.

A very hectic day. Spent whole day analysing bids received for some cars the coy is getting off. The result will be released soon and I have kept the whole coy on suspense. I'll throw the mail soon and run home before they start flooding my desk and bombarding me with calls.

At the heat of Asset Disposal Committee filtered in the report of Sanusi's salvo on CEOs many had thought are untouchable. The bombshell became the subject of discussion in Finance here. Na wa o.

The man has always been a top dawg from his FBN days. What influence can Akingbola and Cecilia wield in 9ja that Sanusi cannot counter.
Thts a big up to the self styled risk man!

im doffin ma hat already. hes the best man for that position.

Sanusi is a thoroughbred professional and I never doubted his ability. It's a pity many Nigerians look at everything from ethno-religious perspective.

I opened NL to break this news. It is true o!!!

Sanusi fired a major salvo.

Akingbola gone, Cecilia fired, Nwosu sacked, Adigwe and Ebong shown the exit door. Jim Ovia fired warning.

This is confirmed. No link yet. But I'm very sure. Top finance executives here have confirmed it.

This is serious. Sanusi is stepping on toes.

Cecilia, the amazon of Nigerian banking!!! Akingbola, CIBN president and NSE Vice President!!!

The battle line is drawn. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Igbo Efon is before Ajah, a few KMs before Ajah.
Abijo is after Ajah on Lekki-Epe Expressway. If you stand in Ajah bus stop, backing Lekki, then Abijo is to the North. That is all I can describe.
Career › Re: How Much Do You Pay Your Driver by Jarus(m): 8:17am On Aug 14, 2009
I don't use a driver, except when travelling long distance by road,in which case, I contract one of the numerous drivers around me. I have a number of drivers around, some family drivers, some friends, and my bosses' drivers and I relate with all of them, including discussing their earnings with me.

Most personal drivers are paid between 25-35k per month. For most companies, the pay is between 30-60K except very senior drivers driving CEO's and other topshots that earn 60-90k per month.

The guy is an educated illiterate. Throwing big grammers that English native tongue speaker, his collegues in the House nor ordinary simple person cannot understand is not communication.

I had always refereed to NASS as the House of Comedy, and on laughter note, He is the chief comedian of the House. Even if he lose his seat he will join the stand up comedian immediately.

SAD but true, he is a waste of space like some cow and not worth the position and costs to the taxpayers. HE DOES NOT COMMUNICATE., he is sounding his own trumpet forcefully without making any sense or advancing the course of his constituent or nigerians at large.

By the way, he is also struggling to to make those big grammers

Sagamite:
It seems you have the barest understanding of Islamic banking and have mixed this with your panic. Let me run through your points one-by-one.

1. There is Islamic banking in the UK and many European countries, does that mean they are turning into full blown Islamic countries? Even in the UK, they have Sharia courts which can make judgements. Does that mean it is an Islamic country.
Thanks for the lecture jare.
I'm so surprised at how ignorant some people can be. At a time when Islamic banking is taking the frontburner in global economic discourse, it's a pity some people still do not know what Islamic banking is. Top financial institutions around the world like HSBC are already into Islamic banking.

I doubt it. Even in an average city like Benin, Ilorin, Kaduna you can't get 3k hotel in main town, not to talk of Abuja.
I got a N5000 hotel in Kado Estate though. A decent hotel, but definitely not A-grade.
