Jarus, the muslim quran has no definition for sin . . . infact "sin" in islam is a relatively recent term co-opted from christianity.Davidylan, I don't know the origin of the word ' sin', but I assume it's an English word used to mean breaking divine rule. The Qur'an in many verses sets out rules of Allah which should not be broken e.g not stealing, drinking alcohol etc. How do I describe breaking these rules? If the word 'Sin' is the exclusive preserve of Christianity, the I'll change it to disobeying God. So,is disobeying God not same as sin? |
So far we have talked about CURATIVE measures for Jinn attack/possession. Curative measures are specialist and more demanding, but PREVENTIVE measures are easier and should be done by every Muslim to ward off Jinn attack. The following are some of the preventive measures: -Worship:Worshipping Allah by doing the all obligatory deeds and lots of meritorious voluntary deeds make Jinns move away from somebody. -Fear of Allah: The more fearful of Allah and pious one is, the lesser the chance of being attacked by Jinns. They find it difficult to attack somebody that obeys Allah. -Sticking to Sunnah: The prophet(SAW) has taught us how to go about our lives from the minutest daily activities, from sleeping, to entering toilet, bathroom, etc, to eating, drinking, wearing clothe, shoes etc. For example, he taught us to wear right shoe first, and off left first, enter bathroom, toilet with left leg first and come out with right leg first, not talking in unnecessarily in bathroom and toilet, eating with right hand, etc. Sticking to all these etiquettes ward off Jinns. -Recitation of Qur'an: Constant recitation of the Qur'an in general and the exorcist verses in particular ward off demons from a household. The prophet said "Devils flee from a house where Suratul baqarah(Q2) is recited" -Keeping houses free from animate pictures, crosses, filths etc -Not urinating in holes: One of the dwellings of the Jinns are holes. So we have had cases of Jinns attacking somebody because he urinated in the Jinn's dwelling place. So the Prophet warned us not to urinate in holes -Not pouring hot water anyhow: Jinns are invisible, unless they take human or animal form. They can be offended if someone innocently pours hot water on them, since they are invisble. So we are advised in Sunnah to always mix hot water with cold one to make it cold before pouring away. You may as well leave till it becomes cold. |
MORE ABOUT THE JINNS THEIR DWELLINGS According to Islamic scholars, they dwell in filthy places, in uncompleted buildings, in remote areas under trees,in hills, in market places, in toilets, in bathrooms, in holes etc. But this doesn't mean every toilet or bathroom or hole or uncompleted building automatically has jinns staying there. No. FORM What is known is that they are invisible. But they can take human or animal form, especially dog or cat. They can take the form of a dead relative and appear to you and you think you are seeing your dead relative, they can even take voice etc. But the truth is that a dead person cannot come back to life. It si not possible. They can possess human beings totally or partially. They can possess animals. So don't be surprised if you hear a dog talk like a human being. It's jinn at work. They can possess objects as well, objects like trees, statues, stone, pictures etc. I have heard a case of picture hanged on the wall, with the person in the picture moving his hands. The jinn is at work. It has possessed the photograph. When I read the case of a statue of Mary in Kenya suddenly moving, I knew the jinn were at work again. They can also possess a tree, and you see a tree exhibiting some strange habits like maybe producing strange, unusual sound in the night etc LIFESPAN Jinns live longer than humans. They live for thousands of years. A jinn that was cast out from a person in Ilorin some years ago confessed he was knew the time of Prophet Sulaiman, but we don't take what they say as absolutely true,as the Prophet taught us. WHY DO THEY POSSESS The Jinns (the evil ones among them) are agents of shaytaan, so the goal, like Shaytaan promised God, is to lead man astray. But beyond this a jinn, as stated by the great Islamic scholar Ibn Taymiyyah, may possess for other reasons such as: -MISCHIEF: They may be playing among themselves that 'I can possess this person' just as mischief is common among men too -They may also feel offended by a wrong innocently committed agianst them by a person, such as unknowingly pouring hot water on them or urinating in their holes etc The Jinn may also attack a lady due to her beauty and attraction. Some evil men also send jinns to another person. THE JINNS' RELIGION Like human beings, the jinns also have freewill. They are going to render accounts like human beings. That is why we have the good ones and the evil ones. There are Muslims, Christains etc among them. But whether good or bad, a Muslim is forbidden from using/consulting Jinns. The exorcist must not contact or make use of, even a Muslim Jinn, for exorcism. He is however required to preach Islam to the Jinn during exorcism. |
earTHMama:Capital NO. You don't need any holy ghost or spirit to cast out demon, as a Muslim. All you need is KNOWLEDGE, TAQWA(fear of Allah) and PIETY(pls don't attempt doing it if you indulge freely in sins) KNOWLEDGE:You have to be knowledgeable in Islamic teachings and principles generally, and what Qur'an and Sunnah say about Jinn in particular. You must also be a fluent reciter of Qur'an as well so as to be able to pronounce those exorcist verses correctly. TAQWA: It is a precondition that that the exorcist is someone that fears Allah. He must have strong eeman( faith in Allah) and trust Him as the only one who can cure the afflicted person. This mindset is very important for the potency of the exorcism. PIETY: The exorcist should be a pious person, not somebody that indulges freely in sins, otherwise the effect will not be felt by the jinn. He should be somebody that worships Allah very well, by performing obligatory acts as well as many voluntary deeds(nawafils). These qualities are very important to an exorcist, otherwise the Jinn may be stronger than him. A case in point is what happened during the lifetime of Imam Abu Haneefah, one of Islam's finest scholars centuries ago. A jinn attacked somebody and the Scholar was called upon. He did the exorcism hitch-freely. After his death, the jinn relapsed and attacked the person again and one of the scholar's students was called upon to do the exorcism. The Jinn, knowing him to be somebody that indulged in sins, just mocked him saying "you? Imam feared God, that was why he was able to chase us away, but you, no way". Of course the student was also knowledgeable, but fell short in piety. So all the three are very important. It should however be mentioned that somebody can still have these three qualities and yet not be able to do exorcism. It may be due to inexperience or fear, not having done it before. Similarly the fact that somebody is not able to do exorcism does not mean he is not pious or fearful of Allah. No, exorcism is somehow a specialist skill. Some scholars are just not interested in that area. It's just one aspect of Islamic knowledge and it is not compulsory everybody knows how to do it. |
The whole essence of God and religion is TEST through belief in the unseen. If He comes down and declares himself, everybody will believe. Moving away from sins and keeping away from God's don'ts requires patience. Naturally, our minds are inclined to things that are forbidden. It takes great belief to restrain from these evil inclinations(sweet things), especially given the fact the 'person' that says we shouldn't do them can not be seen. Consider somebody that has great opportunity to mess up with ladies or steal, but he refrains despite the pleasure there, and hopes for reward in the hereafter. So God's not showing himself physically is a trial. It's a test for him to know who will believe in Him without seeing Him and rewarding such people. |
Not in any way surprised. We are talking about politicians here. Ready to do anything to gain acceptance among different clusters of society. Obasanjo, though openly professed Christianity, never used to miss Ramadan fasting since 1999, while he lasted as President. I see all these things as rubbish. Be a Muslim if you want to, and a christian if you want to. I lost an election in my department in the University because I was a Muslim. The Christians were the majority, but I can't stand politics of religion, having to temporarily turn to Christian to gain acceptance among them. This is hypocrisy, I believe. |
Ibra surely more skilful, but Eto'o delivers when needed most. He misses chances though, but I'll prefer him in my team than Ibra. |
marais:Your first post? Welcome to NL. |
dayokanu:. . . and what are you trying to say? lol |
Muza:. . . after you guys almost turned the thread started in English THROW A SHOE (https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-208445.64.html) to hausa language. A little of local languages adds spice to threads, I observe. |
Coporate men of course |
Pictures probably gotten from facebook. While we were young too, we played with toy guns and all that. So leave the innocent boy alone pls. The boy resemble him papa o |
earTHMama:This exactly describes some of the activities of these jinns. In Islam we call them Jinns. So I may assume familiar spirit=Jinn. |
Answer: Dr. Abubakar Olusola Saraki is incontrovertibly a Muslim. But his wife is a Christian. It is only in the case of his chidren(Bukola, Gbemisola) that controversy arises in Kwara as to their religion, but I'm personally convinced, from his actions, that Bukola is a Muslim, but Gbemisola ?? |
To me, DZ/RHC/EM is the most popular character in the Politics and Culture section. Of course, Davidylan has it in the RELIGION section, while OLABOWALE appears to be a synonym for ISLAM FOR MUSLIM section We must not forget the now-gone MC USMAN too. He also made Politics/Culture sections tick while he was here. Upcoming Nairalander of the year(i.e relatively new lander that shot into prominence within short period of time) should go to MUZA or MAISUYA, I think. But above all, MRCRACKLES is ever present in virtually all the threads. He is not only widely-known, but also widely respected. He is bag of homour. He seems to have assumed a GODFATHER position in NL. I think he is the most deserving of Nairalander of the year. MOST DISLIKED NLDER? hmmnn, make i no start another war ooo I have a nominee but I won't say it, because I'm not ready to receive private mails again in my box. But your guess is as good as mine. MOST LIKED NLDER? MRCRACKLES has this again. |
spikedcylinder:Yeap, I'm still researching but that will definitely also make the the list. I've been extremely busy since I started this thread. Little time for NL. I hope to find time to research and complete the list by weekend, insha Allah. But few other topics are already coming to my mind, like: OAU IFE VS UI VS UNILAG THAT TOPIC ON 'APPAULING' |
DavidDylan, for getting banned like 5 times, but he's very smart. Mukina2, for treating Nairaland as if it is not Seun's own. Tgirl4real did very well with her thread . etc
ROTFLMAO ![]() |
arramyjay:Confused as to whether you were a Muslim or Christian. Traced your previous posts and got to know you are not a Muslim. But from your previous posts, I must commend you for being different, for your reasonable comments on Muslims/Islam, even though you are not one of us. Only pray the best for you. |
I'm just confident SE will qualify. Their main obstacle of course is Tunisia. Tunisia, like Nigeria, know how to qualify for WC. Tunisia was in the last three editions of WC. Recall, in 2006 Nigeria had the same points with the eventual qualifier, and even more goals, only lost due to one unfavourable rule. So Nigeria isn't that bad. But Tunisia is as good as Nigeria in WC qualifications. But all the same, my mind is sticking for Naija. |
Daddy x:Ghana, our arch-rival, beat us 4-1 in London and 2-1 in Kumasi, our two goals being by penalty, and the latter defaet with ten men. As if that was not bad enough, our home boys lost the ticket to maiden edition of CHAN to them again. Please how many times do we shy now? oh, six times ![]() |
spikedcylinder:OK. Can you do? lol |
Eni wafa n wofo |
earTHMama:What is familiar spirit? Educate me. Let me know how it works. But most likely, it's jinns at work again. |
This verse is amazingly powerful. I don't play with reading it before I sleep at all. I read it when I'm in a place and I'm feeling unsafe e.g sensing the possibility of jinn being around. Alongside qur'an 112-114, it is a very powerful exorcist tool. |
If Seun can coordinate it, we can have a across-the-board awards. We may start from TOP 3 in each section. Then the TOP 3 lists will be collated, with weights attached to 1st, 2nd and 3rd poditions. Some people will surely appear in TOP 3 of 3 to 4 different sections. Then the nominee with highest points will be declared NLder of the year. But this has to be coordinated officially(i.e by Seun and the Mods or an award committee set up officially). Before you say we are taking this thing too serious, let me quickly add that it's just for fun. Of course, you can't write in your CV that you are awarded NLder of the year 2008 . . . lol |
I nominate as follows: Nairalander of the Year: MRCRACKLES Most Controversial Nairalander: Deepzone, Davidylan,Sistawoman, tpia Most popular Nairalander: Davidylan, Mrcrackles |

GW, like NL, makes my day!!! |
Oya, who's the better striker? Same discussion is going on here Don't mind the digression to Ghana/Nigeria rivalry in that thread, taht's where every topic ends in Ghanaweb. Oya,Nairalanders, decent comparison of the two players needed? Except for the few quack analysts here that will say 'what is Yobo doing at the back?', I know we have good analysts on NL too. Off we go. . . . |
