Stupid. Polygamy has nothing to do with looting. Are the Iboris,Alams, Odili etc polygamists? Arguing that EFCC should lock up public officials with more than one wife is height of idiocy. Girl, argue with wisdom!

Salam alaekum
this is the way i understand sufism.,islam has been around before the Holy prophet Muhammad came(s.a.w) but Allah perfected it during his time.the prophets like adam, ibrahim(a.s)all practiced ealier forms of islam.sufism has been around since the times of the prophets that came before the Holy prophet.the stage of a sufi is what all muslims should yearn to achieve as it is the yolk of the egg as sharia is the shell of the egg, egg as a description of islam!more on sufism could be discovered(not literarilly)in the holy Hadith(hadith quds)if we endeavour to read it and thingd about its true meaning.
No time to reply this, but I'm sure Olabowale and babs87 will do justice to it.

Almost exactly my experience with IRS two days ago. An Abuja-Lagos flight scheduled to take-off 2.30 pm was delayed for more tahn 2 hours. I, and several other passengers, had to collect our money back when it was past 4, and joined Bellview( angry) which took off 5.Their reason was they were expecting the aircraft from Kano.

I'm surprised at this coming from Arik though, because they are my favourite. I have travelled Virgin more than any other airline, but after experiencing some disappointments, especially delay, I have shifted to Arik, and I've not being disappointed so far.

The case two days ago, where I had to be using Bellview/IRS, was just because I was desperate to be in Lagos, by the next available flight.

As a young, primary school boy in the early 90's, my ambition was to read Business Administration in University, become a businessman with a Group of companies, build many houses in my Offa hometown,Lagos,Kaduna,Abuja,London etc. This ambition was motivated by the fact that the richest person in my family (my elder, big brother) read Biz Admin and was doing well as the CEO of his flourishing company. I really dreamt so much about this to the extent that I used to tear some portion of my school exercise books and list the names I wanted to give to my companies, the traditional and religious titles I wanted to get all over Yorubaland(like Abiola), the private numbers I wanted to have on my cars, the cars I wanted to buy etc. I was living in a dreamland then.

Later, midway into secondary school,my ambition drifted from being a Businessman to being a banker. There was a man from my town then, Dr. Femi Adekanye, then the Chairman/CEO of the now-liquidated Commerce bank. He was also the CIBN President then. He was my role model. I liked him and looked forward to being a banker. My goal was to one day become CBN Governor. When I was completing my UME form in 2000, I filled Banking and Finance(UNILAG) as first choice and Business Admin(Unilorin) as second choice. I was still determined to be a banker, or at least a Businessman. But my elder brother advised me to choose Economics, that it covers all those two courses combined. Since Ife had been my long term ambition, and chose Unilag just because Ife didn't offer Banking/Finance and Bus Admin, I quickly changed Unilag to Ife and Banking to Economics. I knew I can still be a banker, studying Economics. My goal as at the time I entered Ife in 2001 was still to become a banker. But before the end of my year 1, lost interest in my banker ambition due to some personal and religious reasons.

I'm now an Accountant, even though I never dreamt of being one and even hated Accounting while growing up. I wrote ICAN, simply because I knew having it with add to my marketability, not because I wanted a long-term Accounting career. But even at that, I have still not made up my mind to have a life career in Accounting. I'm just finding it difficult to like it, even though that's what I do now, If at all I want to be a professional, I prefer Investment banking. But by my nature, I think I'll make a better entrepreneur. And that is my reigning ambition!!!

In our family,as is the case in many Yoruba families, the parents, grandparents, and other important family members make inputs in the naming. In my case, I was given Suraj by my father on the advice of Islamic clerics, I was given Oyetunji by my Aunty, Abidoye by my Granny, and Adio(oriki-praise name) by my paternal Grandma etc.
Most of us are named this way.

Excuse me, but since when have the Fulani numbers in Nigeria surpassed that of the Hausa? undecided Or better yet, since when have they're numbers been more than the Hausa anywhere within Africa? Te Hausa ethnic group as a whole within Africa is noticed to be amongst the 3 most populous ethnic groups in all of Africa, while the Fulbe are ranked way down in the teens or 20's somewhere. I'm more than certain that the Fulbe have never numbered more than the Hausa within Nigeria.
I hope you know that the '?' sign I put in front of that assertion plus the word 'may' show that I did not categorically state that the Fulani are more than the Hausa. I heard when I was in Sokoto that Fulani are more than Hausa, but not sure.

Pennywise:
It is no exaggeration to say that Yaradua is president for North Nigeria. You can clearly tell in all his appointments and promotions in and out of the military. Yaradul and his people are determined to correct the ills of Obasanjo who dared to bring commonsense and regional sensitivity into appointments and promotions. They would rather things remain the way they have been since the military era when his brothers in uniform dominated the affairs of state. You will notice that whenever there is a percieved dominance by southerners in areas (even) where they lack competence they are quick to invoke quota system.
This is OBJ's greatest doing while in government. He never discriminated. 90% of the so-called OBJ's boys are non-Yoruba(El-Rufai,Dora,Ribadu,Soludo etc)

Islam › Re: Islam And Exorcism by Jarus(m): 2:22pm On Dec 28, 2008
earTHMama:
@Jarus,

Do you know that evil spirits can leave her host and possess the exorcist or those standing by during exorcism?. What has islam done to take care of those that indulge in the practice of exorcism so as not to get hurt or possessed?
Sorry for the late response Funmi. I had been in Abuja in the last couple of days to attend to some private matters and had no time for internet at all.Just flew back to Lagos yesterday evening.

OK, over to your latest question. Yes, it is possible for the Jinn to attempt to leave the host and possess the exorcist or those standing by.It may however be a threat just to scare/test the exorcist.
I have emphasized knowledge as a very important quality of the exorcist. The exorcist knows this too. This is why he himself needs to have fortified himself with anti-possession measures before doing the exorcism. He also has to be selective of those to be with him while doing the exorcism. The exorcist is usually assisted by strong Muslims, who, in their own rights, can also perform the exorcism, or at least with very strong faith and worship. They usually use a room, spirtually and physically clean, and ask others to excuse them.
For instance, the Prophet(SAW) taught us that whoever recites SUBHANALLAHI WABIHAMDIHI,SUBHANALLAHI IL AZEEM 100 times in the morning can not be affected by Jinn till the evening and whoever says that in the evening can not be affected by Jinn till next morning. This was a statement made by the Prophet over 1400 years ago.Wonderfully, the Jinns also know this, as happened in this incident: While doing an exorcism in Lagos some years ago, the jinn threatened to leave the host and attack Alhaji Akindele(the exorcist). But the Mallam, already experienced in the matter of Jinns and their antics and tactics, confidently told him ''Attack me, if you can" and the Jinn replied ''you that have recited SUBUHANNALLAHI WABIHAMDIHI SUBUHANNALLAHI IL AZEEM 100 times this morning''. So the Jinn knew he can't attack him, just wanted to test/scare him. They know among themselves they can't attack a person that has recited that statement, and this was what the Prophet said over 1400 years ago, still known by a jinn in Lagos here!!!! Allah is wonderful.

So the exorcist would have fortified himself with those Quranic verses as well as those people to be with him. Others will be told to stay away. Eating of Date fruit(learnt, but not sure, has to be Meccan type) and authentic original honey are other immunity measures against Jinn attack as explained in the Prophet's Sunnah.

And to add this: During and after exorcism, an exorcist needs to be really watchful of every thing he does. He needs to be observing Islamic etiquettes in all his daily activities. The Jinns will definitely be looking for any loopholes in him. He needs to be constant in worship of Allah, performing righteous deeds, remembering Allah always, and as much as possible shun even the slightest sins. A well-known exorcist in the South-West here said he used to hear strange knocks on his door in the mid-night. Jinns are always on the trail of these exorcists and they are usually watchful not to relent and get overpowered. Exorcism requires strong faith, knowledge and piety even in the minutest daily activities. This is why few Mallams can do it. But again, as mentioned earlier, inability  to do exorcism doesn't automatically mean the Muslim is inpious and not knowledgeable.

I think you fulani folk should be proud your being lumped with Hausa made you appear in broad category of tribes in Nigeria. You may be more in number(?) than the Hausa, but if the compound name is to be done away with, and a simple name si to be used then Hausa, will be most likely adopted, in which case Fulani becomes like any other minority tribe of Ebira, igala, Tiv etc.

2,To defend my religion, after coming across some threads bashing Islam in religion section around that same time, hence my choice of signature.

Hence my username and signature summarize what motivated me to join NL initially.

Where did you live in the North? For how many years? I can recall faintly coming across a post by you in Hausa on this NL. . . . .just curious

@topic
I think northerners have always been the majority in Nigerian Military(Soldier in particular) for decades.
Langstang, as Dayo rightly mentioned, has produced more Generals than any other town in Nigeria. Next to Langtang is Zuru, another northern town in Kebbi state. That small town produced Generals Musa Bamaiyi,Ishaya Bamaiyi,Muhammadu Magoro,Sani Sami and many others I can't recall now. In fact their Emir is a retired General.

By the way, has there been any outcry that these people don't deserve the promotion?

A Homeless child in the north is just as helpless as a homeless child in the south. Lives are taken for granted for in the north as well as in the south. A head taken off by a juju worshipper in the south is same as a head taken off by a rampaging in the north. Please Let us stop offering up twisted truths, the bitter truth is the north and south, both in the same deteriorating conditions and this has nothing to do with racism in America but the fact that we as a people have yet to show ourselves better in anyway. This is a nation filled with finger pointers and less with problem solvers. The bitter truth is no single tribe or people are clean and so calling a spade a spade but continuing to inject bias is not going to work. Not for us or the future generation.
This country would definitely have been a better place if many of us in the South reason like this. I have been labelled a 'fulani ass-licking' fellow on this NL just because I did not join the North-is-the-only-problem-of Nigeria mentality.

Sure, our Hausa brothers have their problems, but to think we Yorubas and Igbos are Mr. Right always, is wanton delusion.

Jazakumullahu khaeran my brother. Knowledge is very important in Islam. Thankfully,we have many Islamic materials in English today. please let's lay our hands on them. They are very helpful. The reason why many Muslims fall prey of Christian evangelization is ignorance. If you know much about Islam, you will just laugh at all those Christain tricks. You may as well listen to lectures of reputable Islamic scholars. Better still, you can frequent Islamic websites to learn, but you have to be careful not to fall victim of these fake websites established by Christians, jews and even deviant Muslims(Shiites etc) which they will call Islamic website to lead Muslims astray.

And that programme suggested by Cola is another great opportunity.
May Allah guide us aright.
