I was reading the profile of the head of Economics dept of U.I (i can't remember his name) sometime ago, and i was shocked at the kind of resources this country is wasting.This man has both industry and academic experience, having worked in the US and then Africa.This is just one out of many.

I'm not disputing the fact that Nigeria with over 150 million peeps ain't going to be able to produce an egg head miles better than SLS in knowledge department. My question is do you honestly think all geeks will be natural born leaders? Be reminded that Nigeria is a country that nothing works according to plan and only guerrilla tactics delivers results in Naij.
Okonja Iweala/soludo alike was partly able to succeed with there respective championed policies cos we had an enabling environment at the time provided by none other than General OBJ before he started fighting an uphill task (3rd term agenda)

Available information has it that Mr. Mutalab, the father of the suicide bomber and former MD of first bank, was instrumental in the promotion of SLS and subsequent recommendation for the post of the CBN governor.So, what do you expect from a man who never worked himself up the ladder.It is said that whatever you don't work for is valued less and often discredited.This can be said of Sanusi's promotion, appointment, and mannerism as the CBN governor.

Any link to this claim of yours with particular emphasis on the CBN appointment?
Do we actually know how many peeps where being considered for the position before SLS was appointed. I'm only asking so i can convince myself that favouritism wasn't the order of the day at the time of the appointment.

Sir, in a country of over 150m people with over 70% literacy level, SLS is obviously not the best for us.

I definitely ain't doubting this.
I'm also from the school of having the best man for the Job but Nigeria as a country need achievers and guerillas not necessarily geeks. Besides SLS doesn't make all decisions by himself. I want to believe he has a board that works with him in determining policies that helps inform his decisions going forward.

In answer to your questions,

1. Have you ever gone through the graduate recruitment exercises in the UK? Yes and I got numerous job rejections too. Yet I got my graduate job before I completed my final exam for my first degree in Computer Science.

I think i stressed the technical aspect. Most engineering graduate jobs which are relatively few due to UK being a relatively low manufacturing country requires you to have a top notch degree from red brick uni. I am not saying 100% for certain that people aren't going to be able to get jobs if they don't attend such schools but why take such risks when dude would be spending ridiculous amount of money to attend the course.
Besides, some of these non red-brick uni don't have a fully functioning career advisory department that invites ftse 100 companies for recruitment fairs. I am closely related to the engineering field and i have people close to me that have studied Petroleum Engineering.

I did not attend a Red brick university in the UK. I am now one of those who screen new graduates for my employer in the UK. Red brick or not, you can still fail to secure a job. Work hard in any university in the UK to score high grade and that is the secret.

High grade degree is not enough in the UK my friend. Dude is still a technical graduate and doesn't necessarily possess the much needed experience that might have propelled him ahead of other willing job seekers. If he attends a Uni with proven links to industries then he will most certainly be left with slightly better odds/options.

While some people work hard to gain progress, others depend on other factors. If I can get an excellent job among UK nationals and other international people, there is nothing stopping anybody else from doing the same.

Fellow Nigerians, please do not expect to fail because somebody else failed. Your failure or success can depend on how much you put in.

No one is expecting or advising anyone to fail but statistics is gotta be looked at when making informed decisions.
The money that the dude will be shelling to undertake this course is best utilized in a uni/country that will help with greater ROI. At the end of the day that's why he wants to further is education.

London South Bank University (LSBU) is a good university. Ignore the negative comments about the university. Work hard and be prepared to make your grades at LSBU.

The fact is that London South Bank University has greater population of foreign students. Does that make it bad? NO!

Nigeria bank stocks are generally over-valued with little or No assets to write home about evidenced by the Madam Oceanic bank using the banks money to buy assets in her own name then loaning them back to the back.

Have you actually ever thought if the current value is actually the right value of the stocks or your ignorance is not going to allow you do basic stock valuation

A man who is the first person ever convicted of trafficking females out of the UK, in a case involving two Nigerian girls, has been jailed.

Anthony Harrison, 32, was sentenced to 20 years for four trafficking offences as well as two of false imprisonment.

Harrison, of Stratford, east London, was cleared of two counts of rape, at Woolwich Crown Court.

The charges related to teenage victims who alleged they were subjected to witchcraft and violence.

He imprisoned both girls - aged 14 and 16 - at his home in Albert Square, Stratford, in 2009, before attempting to traffic them to Spain and Greece as prostitutes.

The two had been controlled by Juju magic rituals.

The case is thought to be the first of its kind in Europe to involve a prosecution linked to this practice.

Both girls came from small villages in Edo, Nigeria, and were sold into prostitution with the help of the local Juju priest.

Juju, sometimes known as voodoo or magic, is a significant part of West African culture which is particularly prevalent in the Edo state of Nigeria, alongside other religions such as Christianity.

'Persuade victims'
Police said Harrison was a key player in a sophisticated network of West African people traffickers who are operating in the UK.

After Harrison was convicted, the prosecution told the court: "This has been something of a unique case and ground-breaking. It's the first time there has been a prosecution for trafficking out of the UK.

"It's the first time the Crown has been able to persuade victims of this type of offences to give evidence."

He was found guilty of two counts of trafficking women into the UK, two counts of trafficking women out of the UK and two counts of false imprisonment.

That's the starting salary for UK graduates. Starting salary in naij will be a lil lower but as a technical graduate you should expect extra income from shift and offshore duties.

Smuggler swallowed 101 packets of cocaine

A man from south London has admitted swallowing 101 packets of cocaine and attempting to smuggle them through the port of Dover.

Kingsley Nwanekwu, a German national living in Greenwich, was jailed for 8 years after pleading guilty to the offences on the first day of his trial at Canterbury Crown Court.

Nwanekwu was stopped by officers at Dover's eastern docks on his arrival from Brussels on 26 November 2010.

After questioning him, officers conducted a body search and Mr Nwanekwu was arrested as officers suspected he had swallowed drugs.

After a day in custody the 47-year-old was found to have swallowed 101 packages, which contained a total of 1.27kg of cocaine with an estimated street value of £280,000.

He pleaded guilty on 5 July and was handed an 8 year jail term.

Malcolm Bragg, criminal and financial assistant director, UK Border Agency, said:
'The concealment technique used by this individual shows the lengths some people will go to in order to avoid detection.
'The seizure of these drugs reflects the robust controls we have in place at the UK border which are backed by dedicated criminal investigation teams.
'Cocaine is a drug that destroys not only the lives of individual users, but also their families and the wider community.'

Our officers use hi-tech search equipment to combat immigration crime and detect banned and restricted goods that smugglers attempt to bring into the country.

Cos getting in like everyone is advising you should be your main concern. You are still a graduate with very little bargaining chips so concentrate more on passing the rigorous recruitment process.

Most people that negotiate salaries generally have something to offer and are able to back whatever claims they make. In fact these people are most likely to be head-hunted.
