Kimoni: @ the bolded - Jaybee, let's not concentrate only on one side of the equation. Infact, It's the other side I am more concerned about. Like I said earlier, even if you have the mind of splitting the bills, is there also a plan to take up a commensurate portion of the house chores? Or do we suddenly revert to the traditional model at this stage? We actually don't split bills but employ adopt a formula where i take care of the core bills and she handles the rest. It probably works out to 70:30 or there about The chores are evenly split |

This is rich coming from them to be honest
"The party lambasted Mr. Wike for refusing to constitute a cabinet, saying the governor preferred “to run the state from his bedroom in collaboration with former first lady, Patience Jonathan and other war lords that installed him as the Rivers State Governor.”
Pretty much double standards if they want to attack him from that front.
They should have stuck to querying the outrageous expenditure in the short period of time |

Kimoni: No Jaybee, it's not and shouldn't ever be about competition. Competition is more like we are trying to outdo each other or trying to prove who is better. Not at all.
Again, all this stems from my observation (past and present) - a guy wants someone he can share the bills with (cool) but he doesn't think he should take up more house chores (not cool), and he doesn't want the headship compromised in any way (will that work?).
As per what the woman uses her money for - honestly, I don't think a man should be concerned about that. He should just provide the basics and if she needs to add value to anything, let her do so as she deems fit. A simple example is the school fees/miscellaneous money I gave above. There was this thread about a lady who wanted to further her studies and also take some prof. exams but she was maintaining a joint account with her husband and he wasn't favorably disposed to it. He would rather used the joint account funds for some white elephant projects and when she insisted, the issues started causing friction in the home and was soon spreading to other areas in the home (she was earning much more than her hubby in this particular case and felt should should be given some freedom to utilize her income). He also started accusing her of not submitting to him. So I think a man should strive to provide the basics and hopefully, his good wife will know how to cover up her man's unclothedness I don't think men go into marriages because they are looking for someone to share the financial burden. Heck, the union obviously starts with just the two people thereby making it a continuation of the dating/courtship phase. The curve ball usually gets thrown in once they start procreating hence providing an unpredictable financial scenario whereby projections may not work in tandem with reality on ground hence the somewhat necessity to seek financial support from the one person that has equal stake in the success of the union. It's just very dangerous not taking into account the real possibility of the woman easily being the biggest earner in the family and thus creating unnecessary stress and invented problems if the man according to you should always be the provider of basics. As you can imagine such scenario will bring unhealthy competition, hatred and distrust into the relationship. |

A man who did not pass WAEC can not be expected to understand Macro Economic Indices. His job is not to understand macro economic indices. That's largely the job of the CBN governor and there hasn't been any news of Buhari interfering with his job or has he? Kimoni: TV, I am cool with your conclusion. Pls help preach the word!
But just in case he cannot provide like he wants to or should do, he should also compromise generously on the house chores. What do you advocate the wife's salary be used for if he already provides extra resource for all the essential house chores Should a marriage be viewed from a competition view point? |

ElFenomeno1: Jaybee read my response to ApexTitan. While a combination of the above is inclusive of the causative factors for the current quagmire we are enmeshed in, one cant rule out we are already feeling the pangs of recession! I get what you are saying bro but feeling the pinch of recession isn't exactly the same as being in recession. Heck quite a lot of people in the UK will be experiencing financial difficulties as wages aren't necessarily catching up with inflation but that hasn't necessarily regressed the growth into recession sphere. Feeling the pinch is very normal in trying economic times |
Politics › Re: Nigeria May Slide Into Recession As Economic Indicators Flash Red by jaybee3(m): 2:44pm On Sep 07, 2015 |
ElFenomeno1: Just because it is a technical indicator doesn't necessarily mean it is the only measure that should be taken as the gospel
So two quarters is from January - June
It is safe to say we are in recession..... June and it is bloody September already!
Another quarter has passed by! well you can't technically confirm a recession without having 2 consecutive quarters of negative growth. What majority are feeling is a slowdown in economy and it's largely due to falling oil prices. Canada is already in recession because of falling oil prices China has slowed dramatically and they can’t keep inflating their growth figures as the real economy is now biting real hard. There is probably going to be a mighty bubble in the property sector in china which will obviously spell doom for the commodity sector worldwide. The other major economies are barely pushing the doom forward by continuously pumping liquidity into the system. Funny thing is, this is actually a cyclical ish as market dynamics always come into reckoning ever so often so it can correct itself before its possible upward movement. |
Politics › Re: Nigeria May Slide Into Recession As Economic Indicators Flash Red by jaybee3(m): 2:36pm On Sep 07, 2015 |
ApexTitan: No doubt with what you are saying. Elections generate certain levels of uncertainty in economic sectors. Thing is in our case this uncertainity has gained enough momentum to push the economy into near recession because the new leadership has done little or nothing since assuming power to quell the markets.
Citing the change of power as the reason for this downturn is no longer an excuse as there has been ample time to initiate and implement policies that generate positive growth. They are projecting it will by the time they get around to reporting the actual growth figures. Either way, we need to record the first negative growth before panic can set in. Absolutely no point coming up with sensational analysis if they are also projecting low growth in the same report. It’s like they just want to yarn for no freaking reason |
Politics › Re: Nigeria May Slide Into Recession As Economic Indicators Flash Red by jaybee3(m): 2:10pm On Sep 07, 2015 |
ApexTitan: Who had the expectation that the change in government would lead to marked decline - negative growth as the paper puts in - in the nation's economy? Is this a regular occurrence in other nations when a new party comes into power that the nation experiences near recession?
I get your position, you are rationalising this downturn as normal and expected so as not to make the new leadership lose face. Election results does have some sort of impact on the outlook of an economy especially when it’s a transitional handover rather than BAU. The reason for that is obviously none other than the expected jitters associated with uncertainties over policy directions of the new incoming government. That’s the same everywhere and it usually gets magnified if the economy is already suffering some sort of slowdown. Have your ever heard the term “Market is looking for a reason to tank”? |

baralatie: Nigeria economy and Greece are two mutually and constantly different economies. Greece submitted its economy to European control in exchange for loans(it did not work out in the long run because it no longer had money) Nigeria is totally different.it is in control of its own money but it is fighting against the forces of external economic influence.this means NIGERIA HAS A CHOICE TO EITHER REMAIN NUETRAL OR TO WIN. so it is either the govt starts expressing itself to win or it continues to be neutral but it won't hit recession. I'm aware of all that and was kinda surprised he was a bit clueless on the components of Greece's worries and thus ridiculously compared her challenges to a projection that's only comparable to most if not all leading economies. |

What's with the sensational headline if they are somewhat projecting a relatively low growth forecast which is by far as a direct result of the low oil prices?
We will only slip into recession if we have 2 consecutive negative growth recorded for financial quarters.
The report makes no sense though since most major economies are also in a comparable low digit projected growth |

How on earth does he plan or propose we do this:
"Again, today all power being generated is being pumped into the system, there is no reserve in case of any break down, and there is no reserve in case of maintenance and so on. We ought to have reserve for emergencies. Sadly, we do not have that at the moment.”
If it's impossible to store generated non renewable electrical energy? |
