Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

Most times I don't get what finding love means. Have you found a girl you love on NL? Have you found a girl who loves you NL? Have you found a girl in are in a relationship with?

There're lotta nice girls so it's possible people have found love. Again, most people probably won't mention if they have. Here looks like it'll have lotta secret affairs going on. Lotta one night stands. A few one night sits.

Agstar: Whao!.. talk about somebody stepping up to the plate and unleashing creativity in a genre where many fear to tread upon and you have this young talented filmmaker …C.J.”fiery” Obasi. He plans on storming the Nigerian movie terrain and the international front with his debut movie Jim & Joan : A Voodoo Tale.

Yes… you got it right!, it’s a horror flick but it’s not shown in the usual disdainful manner that insults our senses instead of invoking the scary effect that is synonymous with such flicks as witnessed when watching Hollywood flicks projecting the above mentioned genre. This movie will keep your eyes riveted on the screen (if you’re brave enough) while the ‘suspense fever intermingled with constant doses of palpitations” rocks your body.

The movie stars Jean Abbey and Ella Uche and runs along the lines about a man, woman, and an ancient evil predicated on the short story by C.J. Obasi. He wrote and directed the movie with his creative crew ; Director of Photography (Owoyemi Michael),original Score (Beatoven and Wache Pollen) with the Executive Producer (Benjamin Stockton) dropping the cash.

C.J. Obasi , back in the days grew up watching “Hammer house of horror” (are you lost?… hmm then you’re a child of the 90′s) and he also read Stephen King’s books. Did i hear you say… no wonder?. Anyway during his childhood days, he had a knack for drawing his superheroes from comics and even characters from movies.”Jim & Joan: A Voodoo Tale” is his debut feature. He had hitherto worked on a documentary, short film, and a music video.

The movie unveils a runaway voodoo priestess who is somewhat led to a young man and they become a couple… but there’s a problem!... read more on http://9aijabooksandmovies./2012/09/21/c-j-fiery-obasi-set-to-unleash-jim-joan-a-voodoo-tale/

I have seen some clips and I have an article on NL here too. I think it'll surely be something 'new' and 'different' from what we have been seeing in Nollywood.

Good write.

vivacious vivi: Ahhhh...where do I start from:
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button: d final voiceover where each main character is shown and spoken abt with smtg that defined them in d move e.g for Ben's father the narrator goes "some liked buttons"!

Saving Private Ryan: best movie in d world. That opening scene when the row boats arrive on the beach and d massacre starts

The Matrix: the Kung Fu program fight scne btw Morpheus and Keanu Reeves

The Village: d dialogue btw Joachim Phoenix and his love interest under d tree. So poetic!

The sounds of music: when Lisa screamed her boyfriend's name so he doesn't tell where d Von Trapps r hiding. Watching his indecision btw love for her n loyalty to Hitler. Then he deciding to blow d whistle...d ultimate betrayal!

King kong: Naomi watts shakingly walks up to king kong as it lay dying. D look of love in its eyes even as it died. Kai...I cried buckets!

Flash dance: d final dance scene infront of d judges. It was mesmerizing! I had to do some research on d film and found out they used a MALE double who is a professional dancer for dat scene.

300: what can be more famous than throwing a spear at d so called immortal god and d look on his face when he bled?! Plus Butler's cue from his wife, his cry of "this is Sparta"!, d famous kick and feel of d scene of d frightened messenger as he fell into d pit!

Piraanha 3D: the killing spree at d beach! Total mayhem. I just kept rewinding...looked so real!!!
Will think of more later. Love films!!!

I must say you mentioned very good scenes that I really love. Goodd choices.

TV/Movies / Re: Will Nigerian Films Ever Be Shown In Cinemas Outside Africa? by Jayboy124: 9:41pm On Sep 15, 2012
lynx200: All the above points are valid but has anybody considered the business angle in Nigeria to film making? Most of us talk about the artistic points of film making which is good but one has to marry it with the business(distribution) side, a new method of getting your films to the Nigerian audience. Did anybody notice that it was at the commencement of MTV base that music video quality picked up? once talented filmmakers can learn to do quality low budget productions(that meet world standards) that don't involve stars and find a way to show it to the public at affordable prices(through distribution structures) then we can say that we're going somewhere. But as long as we sit down and talk and do nothing about it, the charlatans are going to have a field day. So I suggest that we should learn to set up our own alternative distribution channels(It can be as simple as a viewing center for showing your films) for our films because the alaba/Idumota boys and the current cinema halls ain't helping matters. Charity begins at home first. Once you solve that then you can control what goes out. I know somebody is saying that it's expensive but it's not. It's the effort that's expensive but it will pay off in the end. I will be starting my own viewing centers soon so watch out.

I said something like that in an article in February 2011 or so. Each state capital should have at least one cinema. It muustn't be as fine as the popular Lagos and Abuja cinemas. Just a comfortable place we can go see new Nollywood movies at affordable prices. You're very right there.

thespiannn: With the gradual revolution going on in the industry, new breed of few quality-conscious film makers who are well traveled and understands the language of holistic art film making in the 'western way' I think it is a matter of time we'll get there. My people talk say "obe to dun, owo lo paa". Even d said low budget movies are nothing near the amount we spend in making movies here. We have our own exclusive and fantastic stories- stories that makes us who we are. Scripting, financing and telling thses stories from the angle of a camera leaves much to be desired. Remember... Slum dog millionaire.

We remember oh. How it crushed movies at the Oscars. And there wasn't even a 'known' star in the film. The funny thing is that most of our filmmakers don't watch such movies. They just watch Avatar, Avengers and Twilight and then try to make Nigerian versions.

VillageBoi:

Now here is a person that knows the 'way' Nollywood needs to start thinking to have any 'real' international appeal/impact. Very well said JayBoy; I couldn't have put it better myself! Thank you.

We definitely can do this simply with low budget, no names, emotional train-wreck story-line films filled with a good dose of our beatiful colours and culture.

Glad you've noticed the low budget thing too. Nigerians always feel they need big budgets to make very good films. The greatest films artistically, are not always the biggest budget-wise. In 2011 for example the combined budgets of Ides of March, The Descendants, The Help, Midnight in Paris (my favorite), A Seperation, The Artist, is much less than the budget of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. That says a lot about budget.

I hope these Nollywood guys really start investing in good films more.

You're so right, we def do need Nigerian filmmakers that think in the 'right' direction and need to step far away from the 'comfort zone' of Nollywood - RE my pissed off rant at the bottom of this page - https://www.nairaland.com/205/nigerian-films-ever-shown-cinemas

Do I have new stuff? A completely crazy script that will only work in the US as it involves a hell of a lot of guns. Presently research 2 other feature films that I'm writing... I really want things to be that in a year I have have started shooting a feature film - still undecided if it will be here in London or in Nigeria... I'm 80% wanting to do my first feature in Nigeria because I'm 1000% for 'the rest of the world' noticing so much more from Naija!

I have replied man. I try to watch most of the Oscar/Globes/Sundance/Cannes films. And we haven't started making movies like that. A few good movies come out yearly though, but not in the same league as those. Tsotsi (South Africa) and A Seperation (Iran), those are stuff we should study if we wanna get global attention. Cheap but very fantastic artistic stuff.

Try bring your film to Nigeria. It'll make a lot more sense here.
TV/Movies / Re: Will Nigerian Films Ever Be Shown In Cinemas Outside Africa? by Jayboy124: 10:54am On Sep 14, 2012
I have seen Tsotsi and A Seperation. Both are internationally acclaimed films and honestly Nollywood doesn't make such films.

And there is no way one can get get screened internationally without making such good films. There are lots and lots of film festivals and awards that aren't up to standard. Sometimes when they even accept your entry or when you win an award from them, it means your film is bad, looooool. Same goes with some cinemas in USA and UK as well.

As much I know Nollywood is still growing and I see the glory days ahead, I still don't like it when people don't state the facts. Nollywood is doing great but we aren't making international standard films yet.

I always tell people to try and see Ties That Bind. For me it's one of the best films I have seen I have seen from Nolly/Ghollywood.

I also notice some independent-minded filmmakers coming up. And I feel, we'll make our mark internationally soon.

Thanks Villageboi.

Just keep getting the feeling Nollywood needs an independent industry. We need out own 'Junos', 'Little Miss Sunshines', 'Crazy Hearts', 'Slumdog Millionaires' and all of that.

Any new stuff coming from you soon?

TV/Movies / New Kid In The (nolly) 'wood'... by Jayboy124: 10:36pm On Sep 13, 2012
One thing I have always felt Nollywood hasn’t got yet is a set of free-minded independent artists that will champion a new ‘artistic’ Nollywood. I am one of Nollywood’s greatest fans... I enjoy sitting at the far end of Ozone Cinemas or Genesis Deluxe cinema screens, getting lost in whatever the likes of Kunle Afolayan (Phone Swap), Leila Djansi (Ties That Bind), Jeta Amata (Inale) and Chineze Anyaene (Ije) want to show the world. I just mention those movies because they are very brilliant Nollywood movies that have in recent times got me excited about the prospects of a Nollywood Oscar

But I haven’t been more excited about Nollywood ever as I have been after meeting C. J. Obasi. C. J. Obasi is a twenty-something year old making his first feature film, Jim & Joan: A Voodoo Tale.

First time we met, he came to ‘our’ small film house to look for an actress for his film. After the introductions, we chatted about everything film. I was afraid to mention Woody Allen at first, it has cost me a few friends (offline and online, mostly females) in the past But after getting more and more comfortable with him. I mention Woody Allen and he seemed to know a lot him than I did. From then on, it was easy to see how much he knew about films and, more importantly, filmmaking.

He also mentions how it seems every aspiring Nollywood filmmaker says his film will be different from what we usually see. But still promises me that his film will be different. I didn’t have my doubts that his film will be different. I would find out later. He got his actress, did a little audition, and left.

Two months later, I saw a few clips of the new movie. And he was right. The film was truly different. Artistically, it was brilliant. Even though what I saw wasn’t finished yet, I still had the same feeling I had seeing those Nollywood classics at cinemas. He ‘knows’ each shot. And there was this rawness about the film I hadn’t seen in a Nollywood film. After seeing a few clips, I sat back, stayed quiet for a while and told him that he might have just made a Nollywood classic.

Jim & Joan: A Voodoo Tale won’t be one of those star-studded over-hyped Nollywood film. It won’t try to please you. It won’t have all those Nollywood clichés that have bored us all these years. It would be a refreshing experience. A movie that might forever change how Nollywood works. Most importantly, it will make people question C. J. Obasi’s sanity. But don’t worry... he is just a true artist... an independent filmmaker trying to change how films are made in Nollywood. And even though he is clinically sane, but artistically he should be in the same mental ward with Quentin Tarantino and Lars von Trier.

There's an event Amaka Igwe hosts every year and I usually see a lot of those movies there. So get in contact with her company at bobtv.org and ask how you can get in touch with the distribuors. I think she also produced a few of those classics as well.

By the way, I was crazy about the 90's movies as well.

Well, goodluck with that.

People date online successfully. If you don't succeed, doesn't mean it doesn't work. And you know, unless you have enough money for the research, you can't really monitor the other person so it'll be difficult to say how honest the person is. You get my point, shay?

Sometimes it's not to reduce boredom. Sometimes, it's an honest feeling. Like you chat someone online you trully like and share a lot in common with.

Don't some people who live in the house cheat? Anyone who will cheat will, virtual or not.

My idea about online relationship is that what the person does offline shouldn't bother you. You get?
Literature / Re: Why Do Men/guys Claim To Be Single On Socialnetworks? by Jayboy124: 9:00pm On Sep 05, 2012
Someone can also ask someone else out offline after asking you out offline too. So, it not only online that a person can ask many girls out.

I think there is virtual romance, a romance that is just online.

People love the whole bodily contacts and all, but sometimes distance won't let that and the relationship remains virtual.
Dating And Meet-up Zone / Re: Online Dating Is Not The Best - My Experience by Jayboy124: 7:55am On Sep 05, 2012
When you start dating someone offline and then decide the dating should go online, there're bound to be issues. Also happens the other way round.

I always feel when both parties are very honest online, things work better.

Most relationships now are complicated. I had a facebook marriage status at one point even while I was still single. It was lotta fun. I still had new friends adding me then.

Truth is most girls like single guys shah and guys wanna say they're single to keep the ball rolling.

About the whole asking someone out online, our worlds now are both virtual and real. So someone can trullly love you virtually. But you don't expect to be in Australlia (that is you are in Nigeria) to love you the same someone in the same state with you would.

They might believe in love but I don't feel they know enough about love. Let's face the fact, Bollywood films don't really handle the love stuff realistically.

sholay2011: This is a nice topic I must say. Well, as an aspiring actor, I would like to play a policeman or a psycopath...lol...but seriously, I would love a 'well-written' villain...but nt necessarily completely evil lyk an average nollywood movie would paint it. If u dnt get me, check the role of Christopher waltz as Col. hans landa in 'inglorious basterds'. I will love challenging roles lyk playing a gay man...lol

He was very good in The Three Musketeer too.

I am not an actor but if I wanna act, I would love to act a nerd/geek. Something like William Thacker played by Hugh Grant (in Notting Hill).

I am a girl. I've got feelings. My heart is not a toy, don't play with it. DON'T even dare, I'd rip you into bits!

DON'T by Dr2103-

Don't come here to tell me sweet nothings,
I have heard them all before,
They mean nothing...

Don't tell me 'm beautiful,
my mirror says more..
Don't tell me you love my smile,
You ain't got a choice..

I don't like your smile,
I hate the fact that you try to be nice..
What do you want?
Me or my time?
Whichever one it is,
I really can't spare a dime..

Don't call me dearie,
Don't blow me a kiss,
Don't lead me on,
when you ain't sure where you're going..

Don't tell me you think you like me,
It won't make me happy,
Don't tell me you act differently around me,
What is that supposed to mean?

Don't stare when 'm not looking,
Don't tell me my pictures are stunning,
Don't say you love my writing,
I know its all part of some scene you playing,

Just don't come close,
Don't even try to make me think you're a gentleman,
Don't care what I think about you,
Really you ain't even in my thoughts..

Don't try,
Don't say,
Just stay away 'n I'd be fine..

Cos if you come around sometime,
'N I fall in love with you, hard as I tried,
I won't forgive you...

I would love,
And I would trust,
I would be there for you,
And I'd pray for us,
I'd do everything I always wanted,
For that special man GOD promised he'd send..

I really don't wanna do this,
I don't wanna play this game,
I've heard about love,
I hear it comes in different shades,
Sometimes it lasts, but sometimes it fades..

I am not ready,
I beg you, don't make me do this,
Don't come close to me,
I swear I love too easily..

I know you don't wanna listen,
And you're keen on turning me on..
I won't say no more,
just be damn right prepared for my love!

I have been taught to love with my every breath,
And when I start,
Oh, when I start to love you how I know how to,
Don't you say I never warned you!

*****
Here is what a man wants. He is different from me. What did you think he'd say? DON'T? Think again..

Do, A remix of Don't

Do come closer, and whisper those sweet nothings,
I have heard them all before,
They mean everything...

Do tell me I am nice,
My friends say so too...
Tell me you love my smile,
Even though you ain't got a choice…

I like your smile,
I like the fact that you try to be nice..
What do you want?
A classic affair...
Or a ring...
Both?
Say it now...

Do call me your sweetie,
Blow me a kiss,
Lead me on,
Only know I can only spare an affair.

Do tell me you think you love me,
It will make me happy,
Even if the love is for a season.

Do tell me the new hair is because of me (even if it isn't)
Buy a new phone to chat better with me,
Buy a bright coloured gown,
We'll dance to some good ol' slow blues,
Wear a new look,
Take a new picture,
I love seeing that smile...

Do stare when 'm not looking,
Tell me my pictures are cool,
Say you love my writing,
I know it's all part of that one scene you playing,
Every play ends,
But I've learned to play my part in plays I play in.

Do come close,
Act like you got your emotions together,
(I know all women do before love comes)
Care what I think about you,
Cuz if the truth is told...
You're always on my mind.

Do try,
Do say,
But always know that...
Love happens when it will.

If I fall in love with you,
I'll tell you,
Doesn't mean I'll buy a ring,
Doesn't mean I'll stick around longer than I should.

I would love,
And I would trust,
I would be there for you,
And I'd pray for us,
I'd do everything I can,
For you might be that special lady GOD promised he'd send..

I really wanna do this,
I wanna play this game,
I've heard a lot about you,
I hear you comes in different shades,
I just hope you know when the affair ends,
And understand why it must end.

I beg you, let's do this,
Come close to me,
You know how much I want you close,
Listen to my plea,
And when you come, just come prepared!
This is an affair,
I'm not a lonely heart looking for love,
I am the artist who has seen something special in you.

I have been taught to love with my every breath,
That hasn't worked well,
So I have un-learned loving that way,
Now I love as much as won't leave me heartbroken.

I'll be your friend,
I'll be your brother,
I'll be your lover,
But I won't buy you a ring,
Nor will I linger longer than I should.
