VillageBoi: Lol @ Mudley - I'm sure you posted that as a funny joke grin

You guys should watch 'Phone Booth' with Colin Farrell - for a film that 'speaks for itself'...
Even 'Liberty Stands Still' with wesley Snipes.
Phone Booth is the film when it comes to phone call.

fellis: Seriously? I bought a DVD of bollywood oldies sometime ago and burning train is one of the movies in it but I haven't watched it yet.
I will make time to see the film, I wonder what is so tears inducing about it.
As a grown up, maybe you won't cry oh. But then our 'parlour' was always filled with crying teens and kids. Very nostalgic remembering it now.

TV/MoviesRe: Idependent Dramedy Films by Jayboy124(op): 5:20pm On Apr 16, 2013
Looooool.

And the thing that annoys me with the whole thing is even most of the 'top' Nollywood filmmakers don't get these movies too. And like I'll always say, any film industry looking to get recognition outside, this is the best route to take.
TV/MoviesIdependent Dramedy Films by Jayboy124(op): 6:31pm On Apr 12, 2013
Is it right to say that a lot of people don't seem to enjoy and/or understand independent films - the likes of Ruby Sparks, Crazy Heart, Sideways, Juno, Shrink, Young Adult, (500) Days of Summer, Little Miss Sunshine, The Wrestler, The Art of Getting By, The Descendants etc?
TV/MoviesRe: Canon DSLR Audio (The Help Topic Section) by Jayboy124: 4:23pm On Apr 12, 2013
VillageBoi: Dang, this gets crazier! Number sent. Does anyone know if you can use a TV as a DSLR monitor during recording via 'AV'?... I'm wondering why they don't just use the HDMI. (I thought AV was just for 'playback).
You can.
TV/MoviesRe: Canon DSLR Audio (The Help Topic Section) by Jayboy124: 9:15pm On Apr 09, 2013
Villageboi's right.

I had similar issues with my 60D so I threw it to the members of my BBM film group. I got very useful tips to record externally - on a laptop or a sound recorder. I recorded on laptop finally. It works better that way.

Problem will be syncing in post.

TV/MoviesRe: Skyfall Review - Jump In Wit Ur Opinions by Jayboy124: 3:50pm On Mar 20, 2013
I hope people stop judging James Bond movies based on Roger Moore, Pierce Brosnan or Sean Connery's era. That I prefer Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan as James Bond won't make me say a good movie (Skyfall) is a bad movie. The franchise has moved on. I don't get the Bond feel again watching Bond films. But I still enjoy watching them like I enjoy watching Fast Five or X-Men.

Skyfall is a very good movie. There's no doubt about that.

Roger Moore's still my best shah.

TV/MoviesRe: Nigeria Movie Critics by Jayboy124: 1:45pm On Mar 01, 2013
My own suggestion some time ago was 20k Naira by 50 people. Can't remember getting any response. Think it was on a facebook group or so. Before I said it, there was a lot of talk about how crappy Nollywood was (I did a lot of that in the past too). I can't remember getting any response.

So, hopefully, we'll find people someday who wanna see movies made. Then, hopefully also, the crowdsourcing thing would work too.

But the talk about government giving people money to make films, that's the least of our problems as a nation. Any money that should be raised should be started by people like us who wanna see some changes.

I'm glad you understand and believe in crowdsourcing.

And about the Half of a Yellow Sun controversy, I wish those were part of the noise would gather so we can all raise some money, probably buy the rights to Purple Hibiscus and then produce it. But again, that'll likely take 10 years, loooooool.

VillageBoi:

I kinda threw that as a question out there once. The responses were - hmmmmmm! I think it will be quite hard to get Naija people to support such. Let me see if I can find what I wrote somewhere and paste it here... one sec.

It was a topic I called 50,000 Nigerians

"Hello my people, how una dey?

The last few days got me thinking! We've all read the 'Half of a Yellow Sun' controversy (which is definitely going to turn into ticket sales to 'Nigerians').

Are we really vexed or are we justy big-mouth noise-makers? If we want to tell our stories 'our' way then what is stopping us?

On a recent thread someone said something about... (this section edited out) ...No reason such a thing can't work... SO...

Do you think at least 50,000 Nigerians would jump on a 'Naija' KICKSTARTER film project for $5 each... yes a minimum of just five dollas.
I know fully well I would back it with so much more than just $5. I've backed 'oyinbo' stuff on 'kickstarter', why not a Nigerian film? (Another edit from 'other' source)
Plenti members dey here... let them link all their 'friends' on FB and other sites and the 'linked' friends link all of theirs and so on... a chain reaction could easily get 100,000 people on board.

Question is... "Would we?"

This was a place with thousands of people and only about 'FIVE' would. We Nigerians are a very, very tough bunch; most Naija people definitely won't as one of the guys there had a brilliant book out and after all the talk, talk, talk how many people actually supported him by buying it? Hardly any.

Jayboy the sad truth is this - forget our over holy public crap - our 'true' actions are as follows -
A Naija man will straight up not support it because you're not a girl he's trying to sleep with
A Naija woman will not support it as she's looking for 10 guys to pay full amount for the same plastic hair... or shoe & bag & rent

Also note, that is a 'general view', I know there are people out there that will.
TV/MoviesRe: Nigeria Movie Critics by Jayboy124: 8:20am On Mar 01, 2013
Crowdsourcing might be our answer.

TV/MoviesRe: BLINK - Best Nigerian Short Film Ever? by Jayboy124: 10:32pm On Feb 20, 2013
I have made some short films that I always seem to thrash too. I know no one can make a 'perfect' film but again, one has to be proud of what he has done before sharing with others.

The idea is for me to keep making films till I make something I am proud of. Some screen shots from the last one.

VillageBoi: My man pls link your movie, we all would love to watch it. Don't wait to be perfect (even James Cameron & Peter Jacksone aren't) and don't wait for the film to be 'perfect' (IMHO no such film exists).
