For those people that talk about investing in the NSE and going long term, I will use the experience of a family member to show why I always preach caution.

Many years ago, a family member decided to invest in various stocks on the NSE and go long term, hoping that this would contribute to a large chunk of his retirement funds.

He diversified and invested in banking, insurance, industrials, oil and gas, etc. Examples of companies he invested in First Bank, UBA, Union Bank, Afribank, Law Union and Rock, John Holts, UAC, AP (now Oando), Texaco (now MRS), Leventis, SCOA motors, UTC, Nigeria Textile Mills, etc.

Guess what happened to many of those stocks today? Vanished or underperforming. With just a few of them paying dividends and giving bonus shares (mainly First Bank and UBA).

Note that this family member had little time to be monitoring these stocks and only bought lots of these shares and moved on to other endeavors.

Moral of the story: Buy and hold on NSE is as risky as trying to time the market. You still need to commit lots of time monitoring these stocks and not a lot of retail investors have this luxury.
I haven't held Nigerian stocks in a long time. People make good money trading it.
My worry is there may be lots of insider trading going on with improper regulatory oversight hence the huge losses by most folks. Another theory may be that they bought the top of the last bull run. That said, our failing currency makes foreign stocks more attractive.

Kevin O'Learey is just yarning dust. Using 2017 data to make his analyses. Dude bought reeplee and was yarning dust
Hehe... It's a debate... Most do it for fun. They'd have to get someone to oppose and a vast majority of the public still do. But finally, you wouldn't blame him.. reeple can cause longstanding vexation.

Hope you're part of the Eithy ride? Over 15% since yesterday and still moving. Imagine those who panic sold their Eithy into betece yesterday. Na bicycle dem dey... You see how the market is calmly watching it run.. When it's done, expect its little brothers to start causing wahala starting from mid caps.... My eyes on link... It hasn't had a proper run in a while.... But not holding my breath though. It's already had a good year

Except betece suddenly wakes and dumps or pumps heavy, the cycle should go through. Most times, when it gets to this stage, betece ranges or slowly bleeds.

Money has steadily flown into betece for over 3 months without really giving altz room. It's still one same market and the usual cycle is expected. Just position peoperly to reap the benefits and know when to take profits. It's on Eithy moves like this I like using a stop loss and just be bumping it as it moves up

I'd say this market is less stressful and much safer if you look at the big picture. Most day traders get chopped up trying to nail tops and bottoms

Still waiting for Altz season.. I bought 289 ripple in mid November for about 100k, now it worth 40k sad cry . As soon as I see a 150% increase grin I'll sell this Shitcoin. With the US SEC lawsuit against ripple I thought. But I'll jst wait till end of February 2021 to see
Hehehe.... Market psychology at it's best.

No be only you. It had gone over 100% when you bought it, a steep correction was in the offing but definitely not the way it came. The SEC news aside, it is known to create a load of bag holders. Pumps heavy then dumps leaving folks with heavy bags, frustrate them for a while nd repeat. The problem now is there are lots of bagholders who are willing to sell the smallest of pumps.
That's why I like Eithy... Slow and steady rise and when it corrects, it does that respectfully.

One thing I like about this market is how it shows and works on people's psychology. Everyone is regretting not buying betece at 4k. I can assure you if it drops to that level again, people will still not buy. Either they'd be calling for 3k and miss out or calling for its doom. It's interesting how same scenario keeps playing out over and over again. Buy high, sell low.

And when the mentioned above drops...Then you will understand the meaning of WHALES BEAR
Can you attach the original article? It looks likean old one. Most major financial news outlets such as Bloomberg and Forbes have changed their tone of reporting about it.

It's still a relatively small market and that's why I'm excited about it... Cos the room for growth is tremendous.

I believe this market has survived it's worst and is slowly getting to mass adoption. Most regulators are well aware and have gone through it. Their focus now is on making sure traders have full ID and that they pay tax on their gains.

One area still a bit grey is the stable coyns which are made to match the value of day to day fiat currencies and are not volatile. They're meant to be backed by dollars or other securities. Their rate of growth may seem that they're not fully backed. I know Facebook and a consortium of other companies were looking at building one at a time.

But the mass printing of the dollar and the fact that most citizens from nations with rapidly depreciating currencies turn to it will drive its value up with time.

A bear market will come but I don't it will be as brutal as you think. This period is different from the last time betece attained ATH. This time we have institutional investors like BlackRock, MicroStrategy, PayPal, Square etc.
Hehe... I wouldn't totally agree with you on this. I rely on technical analysis (TA) and price action mainly but fact is there's always something in the news to serve as a distraction.

When a bear market start, na you go dey vex say why everybody dey sell every 5 percent rise. Fact is I knew this rally would cone but I didn't guess it'd be this strong. Nothing goes up in a straight line and when the real bear market comes, the dips would be deeper than everyone envisaged. The whales you're talking of sometimes fuell those dips to fill their bags. All that's needed may be rumours that a few of them are emptying their bags. One thing I'd agree with is that with money in it mow, the market should move slower.
One thing I like about this market is that it generally respects TA.
Look at the chart we're trading. The only reason why I'm still in it is because it broke ATH and I knew a significant move will ensue.

For example, look at Eithy... Earlier today general consensus was it and others were dead... All of a sudden, its goes 10 percent... Wait for the coming days. I believe it'd reach its ATH too which is double its current value... As it approaches there, watch what its little brothers do. The market is designed to trick the majority and reward the patient.

Already, thetha has given me over 100 percent in about 2 weeks while everyone was screaming on betece...

There is a reason why some of us are patient to wait for the altz season, moreso when the conditions are ripe. It's because you can double your portfolio under 2 weeks of a proper season... Case in point, link went from 4 to 20 earlier this year. I don't want to tell you what that did to my portfolio eventhough it was just the first 2/3 I rode.

Not expecting anything close to those numbers although we're seeing some staggering candles already. The market flows in cycles irrespective of where fresh money is coming in from. Of course the king will outperform the rest in the long run. But usually, there's a 3-6 month cycle of dominance between btz and others... Once many think one group is dead that when it wakes up. The mistake most make is jumping from one top to another top.

Funny enough, all the noise goes to btz but eithy has outperformed btz since the March crash and is likely to perform even better over the next weeks. I'm looking at majors first. My concern is that a significant pullback can happen at any point
To add to this, for those who trade, it's good to know what you're good at...

Are you a day trader, a swing trader or a HTF trader?... I usually prefer to trade the high time frame and I'm less concerned about daily movements. I believe it's in major movements that most money is made or lost. Truth be said, betece usually gives 2-3 of such major moves a year.

Betece has been running the party for almost 3 months now. I believe over the next two months, the major money will move to altz.. That's how the market cycles. I might be wrong but thats how I playing it. Selling your altz into betece now may not be advisable. Its like selling the bottom ti buy the top. I've made such errors in the past and lost out on both ends

Take a step back and see that betece has crossed all time high... It's likely others will make good moves.
With altz, entry and exit is everything... 20k to 28k on betece is a 40% move... When the time is ripe, some altz will give double that percentage in weeks... Already some have printed delicious candles. Just remember to take profits along tge way cos the volatility will be huge too.

Adoption is still quite early and most folks in it now endured the brutality of the 3 year bear market and perhaps the March crash. Let us enjoy this. We waited 3 years for it. The most important thing is risk management and trading a bull market as one not a bear at least till it's over.

We know a likely brutal bear market will ensue unexpectedly likely after the halving backed bull run is done. We'd ride that too...

Lord knows I'm already getting ready for the 2024 post-halving bull.

Was part of one recently before it was shut down. Rule 16 says don't promote it. I wonder if that also includes discussions.

Once sent a message to the @mods asking them to review that rule. Since there is no known thread, it gives room for scammers to run amock.

Surprised that the rule still exists yet the most recurring adverts on this site have to do with it. I know it'd be changed someday but wondering how long.

Perhaps @Seun still thiks it's a scam but has no qualms collecting his ad revenue from exchanges who advertise here... Just thinking...if he thinks its a scam, wouldn't allowing sich ads also be supporting it?

It would be interesting to know his views on it and why that rule still persists.

When buying tiles, ensure you do the measurements accurately with your tiler and also ensure proper conversion from sqm to cartons and lastly if possible, after agreeing price with supplier, go with your tiler when going for pickup.

I just got swindled of 90+ cartons costing over ₦130,000.

Lesson learned.

I know all tribes in Nigeria have bad people, but we need to be wary of some particular ones.

When I bought cables from them, it's the same thing until I stood my ground.

When I bought conduit pipes from them, it's same thing. They sold fake 20mm at the price of original 20mm Dignity pipes. I stood my ground and returned all pipes

Now it's tiles from Orile.
This criminally minded Patrick Ebere knew what he did, smuggled all the tiles in the truck before my arrival to make U turn to the other side.
Swearing that ' ọgá the thing complete' 'maka why I go cheat you'

You are an annoying tribalist and one with low IQ. You obviously don't trust them but yet you keep going back.
It's what I tell people who decide to limit fraud to one ethnicity. Please and please, only buy from the ethnicity you trust, whether it's pure water or recharge card.

I always tell people like you to remember your fathers fought to keep them in this country. They have always expressed their willingness to go form their country yet Nigerians insist against this. Why not support that clamour so you can remain with your trustworthy brothers?

As far as I'm concerned, you should go and thank the seller. Consider the 130k as school fees for acquiring sense. People like you will always be the easiest to dupe and be rest assured you'd keep paying school fees until you finally get your brain functioning.

Funny enough, such ladies are more problematic in the long run. Most of the ladies have severe mental health issues the kind of stuff we don't hear of in 9ja. It may not even pay trying to get on your feet cos with such people it's more difficult when you have something to loose.

Either way, it's not a nice situation to be in. No wonder most quickly look for a naija babe to bear kids with once their documents are sorted. It's pure torture.

Hehehe... Quite common but not always the case.
That's what alot of guys here don't understand. They follow this convoluted redpill teaching (have nothing against it) that makes them think certain xteristics are only limited to Nigerian girls. Certain traits are universal be it in Nigeria or UK, it's the way such traits are expressed that differs.

For example, women all over the world are generally hypergamous. It's a natural trait and part of the natural selection process present both in humans and lots of higher species too. If you're marrying a white lady, what are you bringing to the table?

They forget the redpill movement was born by Western men who suffered the effect of feminism.
I asked on a previous thread, if you cannot handle the 5% feminism creeping up in Nigeria, don't go looking for 80% in the West.

Finally, about your scenario... Such ladies practically convert the guy to a slave, waste his productive life and ruin his mental health. Exceptions are guys who have are paying for the contract marriage or who are lucky to find a sensible person.
The annoying thing is that most guys wouldn't go for productive or good looking ladies in the society, na the bottom pot them go dey hustle.

I don't like responding to racist comments. That said such statements coming from white folks wouldn't surprise me. Discrimination is expressed worldwide.

What's annoying is black men and women having a competition on who's going to put the other down more. I've said it over and over again here that we are in this together. The world out there sees and rates us as one (whether male or female).

Look through my posts for over 10years I've been on this site... My dabbling into this issue was because I noticed alot were ignorant regarding what's obtainable out there. That I'm a male or female has nothing to do with my response. Your lack of critical reasoning is appalling.

Nigeria has a rapidly growing population of over 200million, most of which are poor and the only thing on your mind is the person who is single or not. Don't worry, there are millions of white ladies ready to kneel at your feet cos you've got a d***

If this is your definition of masculinity, then you are a disgrace to it.

We should stop celebrating Governors for building roads and bridges or paying salaries in this country. It shows we have been bastardised so much that we now see basic necessities as luxury.
Smaller coutries have moved past this decades ago. Those are the most basic reasons why they were elected. They are paid to do this.

If we continue this way, we would never move forward

Live in Nanny don't come cheap in western countries. They cost an average 30 dollars per hour. Besides, any form of maltreatment accusation from the nanny against her employer can ruin his life and land him in jail.
I agree with u on building needless mansion in nigeria but buying a house in a good neighbourhood is inevitable on the long run.
Neighbourhood determines everything here. Good schools, good hospitals, crime free areas are located in expensive neighbourhood....and if u want the best for your family, u will buy a house in such neighbourhood.

Trust me, U don't want to go buy house in crime infested or low income areas....having low lifes as neighbours. Its a disservice to your kids. I'm sure u dont want your son walking around the house smoking weed or your daughter humping d*ck from age 14.

U also need to save if u want your children to attend ivy league schools because they are f*cking expensive. And there's nothing wrong helping your kids have a head start in life by helping them pay for initial mortgage deposit. This way they can buy house in their early 20s n finish payment in their late 30s.
Immigrants sacrifice a lot for their kids in this country. This include working extra n long hours to achieve those goals.
You have a good understanding of how Western nations work.

For a vadt majority of immigrants who came in legally, it's their children that really get to immigrate and reap the benefits. For those who came in through illegal means, that wait may even be longer.

That's why I smile when folks mention prenup.. They read the stories of rich artist online and start thinking. How many immigrants at the point of marriage have anything tangible to put on a prenup talk more of paying a lawyer for that. The only thing may be a house still being mortgaged. Prenup or not, in the event of a divorce, that house likely goes to the person who keeps the kids, if not, the state will need to provide those kids good accommodation. No one is happy to pay taxes to house another mans kids while the man gets to keep his.

In the west, having an understanding and supportive spose who can look after the homefront nd the kids while the other hustles for more cadh has been the magic pattern that has worked for most. How many earn enough to pay a full time nanny

We're in changing times and the cultural dogma is inevitably changing. Of course people respond to change in different ways and there'd always be an initial resistance.
Fact is as relatively more women get equal education to their male counterparts, attain to same heights at work e.t.c... some things will change..

Very few guys would want to marry the uneducated, naive, submissive lady. They want an exposed, educated, working class and fully submissive lady.. It goes both ways. People want the best of both and we should understand the higher our targets, the more difficult they are to achieve
