Sure you can PM me. Its a bilingual city. I you go to a supermarket for example, the cashier greets you with "Bonjour, Hi". If you respond with "Hi", they'll continue the conversation in English. If you respond "Bonjour", they'll speak to you in French. Generally, you can get by in most places in Montreal with English. Places like Notre Damme de Grace, Westmount, West Island seem to be more Anglophone. The north of Montreal is more Francophone. You'll feel right at home

My French is at B1 level, not fluent, I speak English 90% of the time, and i get by. You , my friend, would have no problems as an English & French speaker. You are exactly the type of immigrant that they are looking for.

Social Life: Montreal is great. Social life is amazing here. Very multicultural. If you are single and enjoy going out, there are a lot of places to go. People come from Ottawa to enjoy the clubs in Montreal. There are also quite a few Nigerians, there was a Nigerian picnic a few weeks ago during summer. There are also a few Naija restaurants and African shops that sell all the "Naija good stuff" if you are the type that has to stick to Naija food. As expected, there are more Francophone Africans and Haitians than Anglophones, but there are still a lot of Nigerians, especially in the Lachine area.

Work: This depends on what your profession is and your level of fluency in French. For example, if you speak French and are an IT Professional, you would probably get a great job within 1-2 months. Even if you dont speak French but you work in IT , you have a high chance to get a good job. I am into IT, and my French is not so great, but there are still a lot of opportunities in IT. I am not sure about other professions, but my opinion is with French, you have leverage to get a job without much stress.

Costs: Quebec's taxes are one of the highest in Canada, so thats tough. However, they offer more benefits than most of Canada. FOr accommodation, you can get a "room and palour" for between 600 to 1000 and more, depending on the area. There are also opportunities for shared accommodation, where you pay even less, maybe 200-350 per month because you share an apartment. A 2 bed would be around 750-1200 or more. Depends on the facilities and location.

Nigerians don't know better. The people who should be demanding for a better Nigeria have not been given the education and value system that would make them see that demanding Sowore's freedom is a more worthy cause than worrying about who wins $60 million on Big Brother. The young people who are interested in MI & Tacha's destiny grew up with no examples, no reference point from where they understand what their role in society is...We grew up in corruption, nepotism and bad governance. We grew up watching police take bribes from bus drivers, our parents paying for WAEC "special centres" and our lecturers selling handouts for grades. How could we possibly know better? Political Consciousness , like racism, is not inherent in us, it is learnt from the older people around us. The "Country" is you and me. Unfortunately, unlike our western counterparts, we are not equipped with the knowledge of history and selflessness that would make us as a people demand for a better life.

This is the most sensible thing i have read all day. Everyone says Sowore cannot win because he doesn't have political clout. Agreed. However, we can send a message to these old men that have held our country to ransom that the youths are taking their future back. If only we vote for who we think is capable (irrespective of his/her political capital) instead of who we think can win, we would be in a much better place. I'll rather vote to send a message than be a part of another 4 years of stagnation.
