Phones / Re: RIM's upcoming flagship phone, Blackberry Z10 To Cost £480 (Approx. N119,000) by jereal(m): 8:47am On Feb 08, 2013
jedisco: Didn't I say it you don't calculate local phone prices directly from European prices.

You can now officially pre-order it for 100k from MTN.

You can also be sure that it would be cheaper when it's OFFICIALLY released to the Nigerian market.

I don't believe there is any place in the original post where the price was stated in naira...

the naira equivalent was only calculated to give an idea of the price...

its good know its gonna cost less...
Phones / Re: BB 10 will ground Blackberry by jereal(m): 7:44pm On Feb 01, 2013
There's no way telecom operators, say MTN, would allow users access to unlimited internet service on an android/iOS-like OS...
this doesn't come as a surprise, we all know this was coming...

Lord_Reed:

Yup! Courtesy of a Blackberry staff who has one of only three demo units in Nigeria (as of launch day).

wow...! must have been exciting...how did it handle...?

you should write a brief review...!

any tip on when it'll be launched/available in Nigeria...?

Lord_Reed: Having used the Z10 for a few minutes I can see it following the likes of Nokia Lumia 920 in pricing. It is a great device and certainly a game changer for Blackberry.

You've had a hands-on experience already...

Music/Radio / Re: Favorite Songs To The 90s. So (90s And Back) by jereal(m): 9:51pm On Jan 27, 2013
Even though earlier than the 90s, Sonny Okosun & Funmi Adams would be my best pick...
You listen to their songs and you know they couldn't have written such songs without some sort of divine inspiration...and it wasn't enough that the songs had heart-piercing and truth-filled lyrics, their exceptional voices and the way the delivered the songs was something else...!
Also not to forget the excellent production quality (unlike the noise we have today) and the decent videos that accompanied them...

its no surprise that these songs make one's eyes teary whenever heard...

BedLam: RIM should know that they no longer have markets in NA and EU, 750$ for that gadget is a broad-day-light robbery for africans and brazillians! anyway, I never used a blackberry.

why anyone would want to buy this over a Galaxy sIII for instance is unimaginable...

Phones / RIM's upcoming flagship phone, Blackberry Z10 To Cost £480 (Approx. N119,000) by jereal(m): 6:51pm On Jan 27, 2013
The BlackBerry Z10 , which is all set to make it to the grand stage this week has been the talk of the town lately. After we got to see some press images of the smartphone and got treated to a tutorial of its OS we not got to learn more about the pricing. The price tag of the BlackBerry Z10 was revealed by a screenshot of a major retailer's inventory system.

According to the Carphone Warehouse , the BlackBerry Z10 will cost £480, about $760 (certainly no information on the actual retail price in Nigeria yet). The listing in the company's database clearly shows the pricing of the white variant of the smartphone and the attached BLAZ10WHI product code too aligns nicely with the earlier leaks from the retailer.

The leaked price is said to be for a SIM-free version and the smartphone will naturally be available for far less on contract.

RIM might have a somewhat hard time impressing the audience at its January 30 event. After so many leaks there's hardly much left to announce, but hopefully the company will have a few more aces up its sleeve.

Price is a little steep if you ask me...considering the fact that this is RIM's last play, one would've expected the phone would cost less...

what's you take on this guys...? re you getting one...?

Phones / Re: Nokia's Symbian Is Officially Dead...!!! by jereal(m): 11:01pm On Jan 24, 2013
Obviously we all had our first true smartphone experience on the symbian OS...the next generation will never understand the quintessential role it played in the advancement of mobile operating systems, but for us, we know better. Symbian will remain in our hearts forever...

funny enough though, with their line of Asha Abominations, it seems Nokia still has no plan to take down the century old S40

Phones / Nokia's Symbian Is Officially Dead...!!! by jereal(m): 3:56pm On Jan 24, 2013
We all knew this was eventually coming, but it's now official. Symbian on Nokia is dead.

Nokia managed to send off the once might platform in style. The 808 PureView will go down in
history as the last Symbian device by the Finnish manufacturer.

Nokia announced the news alongside its great Q4 results today, which showed $585 million profit and $10.83 billion in revenue.

Symbian OS on Nokia devices has played a key part in the smartphone game over the past ten years, but its significance was
severely reduced once the touchscreen revolution started. Some of the most notable phones to come out of Nokia were powered by Symbian - beginning with the 9210 Communicator. The Nokia E61 started a messenger phone hype that peaked with the E71, making Symbian OS the only viable competitor to the then strong BlackBerry portfolio of messengers.

Then came the cameraphone era, which gave birth to devices like the Nokia N95 , which was widely regarded as the king of the smartphone hill in its day. The Nokia N8 came at a time when Symbian was rapidly sliding into irrelevancy but still made a huge splash among camera-lovers with its large sensor and superb image quality. Heck we loved snapping photos with it and it's still the most popular smartphone in our database with over 25 million hits.

Nokia began a shift towards Windows Phone in the beginning of 2011 and starting now Redmond's mobile OS is Nokia's only smartphone platform.

It was a great run...RIP Symbian

mjay: Come to think of it, Glo actually have more to gain by leaking and leaving this new devt...There is every tendency that there will be mass migration from Airtel to Glo from peeps who have been enjoing similar benefits from Airtel...What I forsee is not a blocking of the new discovery, but a fight from Airtel for survival. This new leak may actually be the workings of glo (trust naija)

I quite agree with you...glo has always one of the networks with the best firewall...why allow this now...? I think they did it on purpose...
well lets just hope this is their intention, cos it favours us all...
