i want to if there is a way i can transfer information (eg. names, email addresses and so on) from paper into a form/spreadsheet (eg. on excel) without having to go thru the stress of typing it out.

i just got an offer i would be given websites in photoshop format and i would then convert the graphics into HTML, i will do the markup and also create the necessary slots for the various applications that would be introduced later.

Methinks the problem was that they were too busy concerned with the business end with little or no regard for the product end.

The truth of the matter is that a lot of businessmen/women is that many of them are so concerned about making profit that they overlook those little "stuff" that could take their business to the next level.

Take for example, a pepper seller in South Africa has a website because he/she knows that he/she is competing in a global market therefore, he/she cannot afford to lose out to the competition BUT in naija, anything goes!

I believe the trend would change over time provided we wake up!!!

i have made an earlier post on this topic but from what i have heard so far, i believe i have to be more explicit:


i am a website designer and i correspond with alot of web designers and from reports and personal experience, i can tell u that many hosts simply don't measure up too well.

that doesn't mean they are all bad but the truth is from my little note-comparing that i have done with some of my colleagues both online and offline, i can tell u that many naija web hosts are way behind.

some of the offenses usually labeled against them are:

1) Poor customer service.

2) frequent server breakdown.

3) collection of payment without corresponding provision of the service paid for.

4) Registration of domain names in THEIR OWN NAMES - many don't even know this is a criminal practice, web designers included.

I want anyone who has had similar experience to say so in this thread but more importantly i want nairalanders to proffer solutions on these problems and also give hints on how to fish out the bad eggs from the good ones.

since it's a simple job and it's your first job and ost especially it's a church job.

charge them low. because

1) once u do a good job, they would recommend you to others

2) the amount u get is secondary for now, u need a portfolio and nothing boosts your image faster thana well-designed and affordable website

lastly, i didn't specify a certain amount because u are the only person who knows all the details but the main thing for u now is a portfolio.

i just downloaded a wamp server but am having problems configuring it.

am using vista (home edition)

although i agree with what alot of folks here have said about diversification but at the sae time i want to sound a note of warning and that is,

while it is good to diversify make sure you professionalise in an area. there is no way anyone can be at his/her best in every area. make sure you are good at something while yet you know a bit about some other stuff.

you know the proverb that jack of all trades master of none is still valid even in this age

What level of capability would you want yourwebsite to have. Do you need a portal for example and stuff like that

i know it isn't easy to be a web designer but i know anyone can do it

web design is simply creating what people see when they visit a web site and like Kobojunkie has pointed out, you don't have to know programming to be a web designer but web development deals with the actual working of your web site usually called the back end because you can't "see" it but you can see the result of ite work.

take for example you can say web design deals with what you can see on the outside of a man but web development deals with how the man thinks (or the design of his soul and spirit) which obviously you can't see

unfortunately, we are now getting to the root of the whole issue.
we are waiting to see what happens next

some people are just very funny. i am not new to affiliate marketing and by any standards i wont dare buy anything from anyone i don't know where he/she resides. affiliate or no affiliate. any sensible human being most especially in this age and time is aware that online anyone can claim to be anything and it takes u being able to prove ur genuineness before people start taking u serious and one of the easy way to do that is to let people know u exist and that is by giving them an address.
even international bodies have addresses so i wonder how anyone can be promoting a programme without address. some are just ,

i want to know what else u hosts are offering aspart from space.

i wonder. people need at times to have sense beaten into them. how can u be promoting a prog dat does not have an address.
