Foreign AffairsRe: Man Jailed For Killing A Monkey In The U.S. by JeSoul(f): 6:59pm On May 17, 2013
Its true. He was convicted of breaking into a zoo, attempting to steal the monkey, then beating it to death when it bit him.

Idaho man sentenced to seven years for killing zoo monkey
Michael Watkins, 22, pleaded guilty to breaking into a Boise zoo last year and beating a monkey to death. Authorities said Watkins was trying to steal the Patas money when it bit him.

An Idaho man who admitted to breaking into a Boise zoo last year and killing a monkey was sentenced to seven years in prison on Thursday, court records show.

Michael Watkins, 22, of Weiser, Idaho, in March pleaded guilty to attempted grand theft, a felony, and misdemeanor animal cruelty stemming from the break-in and beating death of the monkey at Zoo Boise in November.

The primate was one of the zoo's two Patas monkeys, ground-dwelling animals from Africa that stand more than 2 feet tall and weigh about 35 pounds. They are rare in zoos but not endangered in the wild.

Foreign AffairsRe: Map Shows World's 'Most Racist' Countries (and The Answers May Surprise You) by JeSoul(f): 6:54pm On May 17, 2013
Otumfor, Eti sen? smiley

otumfour: Some have pointed out problems in the survey data... a more serious flaw could be the fact that in most Western countries racism is so taboo than many people will hide their intolerant views and lie to the questioners.
Max Fisher of the Washington Post suggested that maybe 'Americans are conditioned by their education and media to keep these sorts of racial preferences private, i.e. to lie about them on surveys, in a way that Indians might not be'.
I think this is spot on and why this poll may not necessarily be accurate.

But overall quite interesting...we already know about parts of Europe and Asia being racist, no suprise there. I am a bit suprised that France scored so poorly, considering how diverse their country is today (unless of course problem #1 cited in the article, that this study is dated and may not reflect current attitudes).
FoodRe: My Food Tastes Funny - Please Advise by JeSoul(f): 7:17pm On May 16, 2013
Are you using a gas or electric stove? And what kinds of pots are you using?

These can greatly affect how your food turns out. If the pot is not quality, it will burn the food at the bottom before the top can cook properly. And if the stove is too hot it will also burn the bottom as well.

As for being able to make good tasting dishes, there are plenty of good resources here on NL (start here: https://www.nairaland.com/271804/looking-thread-please-look-here). Follow a recipe from start to finish until you can do it by yourself. It is great that you want to learn to cook better and care for your family. Good luck.

Foreign AffairsRe: Black America: Its A Pity by JeSoul(f):
Great point by Isale to de-couple the 'act' from 'black america' - that was a good point we should've done from the get-go. Toshmann, you're so sweet smiley. The world is a better place with people like you that react strongly to such. Me personally, I have long placed no limitations on the length, breadth & height of human depravity. Pessimist Realist me.

However this does provide us an opportunity to discuss the problems facing the black community...the laundry list is loooonnng.
Foreign AffairsRe: Black America: Its A Pity by JeSoul(f): 5:49pm On May 14, 2013
toshmann: There's got to be a way. Who will save the black community?
Who will save them? Now with a black president they have effectively been silenced. No one can complain much about racism when the president is black.

But there has to be a way. This is just 2013, the century just begun. This dirt won't stop here. It will keep expanding.

OMG!
Not entirely. Racism is still very very real, especially rampant in certain parts of the country. But you're right, with a black man in the white house there are fewer excuses as to why we can't succeed. Me I don't know the way forward...undecided so na to manage my own tent. Much of the black leadership also continue to foster a sense of 'victimism' among blacks, therefore perpetuating the cycle - rather than preaching empowerment and taking advantage of so many opportunities in the system, despite the bad cards you may hold.

To fix the problem, the mentality has to be slowly chipped away and replaced with progressive thinking. There is such a dearth of morals in many black communities, despite the fact they're populated with churches. The breakdown of the family unit is to main one of the biggest problems- this is the root problem of symptomatic social ills like drugs, gangs, teenage pregnancies etc...

Black people also tend to stick with other black people (attend 'black' churches, go to 'black' events, eat 'black' food, go to 'black' places etc etc). We've boxed ourselves into all kinds of stereotypes to our detriment. We need to learn to maintain our identity, and simultaneously interact with others - for collective growth. No man or race is an island. It is important to forge meaningful alliances with others, we can all learn from each other.
The most infuriating part if you are a fan is seeing this nigga practice before the game and then not play! He was cleared to play 2 months ago! 2 months! If he had any self-respect he would either suit-up or rule himself out for the season so he would be remembered as a quitter
Bingo! exactly! I don't understand why he is "day-to-day". Get on the floor or simply say you're out for the season, not the cat and mouse game he's been playing. The thing tire me.

As for Lebron he's not just the Most Valuable Player but the Most Valuable Flopper as well I mean this ninja has moves for days! Check the videos I posted earlier 'floppin on a smaller dude' 'fakin an eye injury' 'flagrant flop' this isn't Ginobili that has just one style of flopping! Lebron has a vast repertoire which is a disgrace for a nigga his size
grin grin lol@ vast repertoire lol. Hilerious vids. Lebron will look back one day and wonder why he was embarrasing himself so much. I think it greatly diminishes from his legacy. True legends like Kobe, MJ cannot be caught dead looking for cheap bailouts- they go out and will their team to win, not looking for help from the Refs.

birdman: wow..una dey determined o cheesy. Its 3-1 anyways. I have to admit that was funny. I'm no fan of flopping in any case
Lol. Uncle nothing oh lol. I personally am a fan of Lebron, but damn, the flopping is truly a bad mark on his career. One cannot imagine Kobe flopping, the guy has way too much pride & self-respect grin

^Uncle LB, we're going to have to agree to disagree. I cannot judge what is offensive to atheists (that's why MMW & Seun are here), likewise you cannot judge what is offensive to christians.

Like I said, you may not have intended it to take the turn that it did, but it has taken the turn nonetheless. I did mention I had every intention of leaving ya'll to have your fun until I reopened it today and saw the subsequent comments. There is a forum-wide push to encourage civility & mutual respect as we hash out our discussions.

Thanks.

Logicboy03: I can understand the closing that my thread

but this one on the bible quiz for atheists shouldnt be closed.
https://www.nairaland.com/1289435/bible-quiz-atheists

Even the reason you gave was silly. For being sarcastic! Was the op sarcastic? If it naturally took a sarcastic tone after that, then it is natural and no need for closing. "sarcasm" is not a crime and the thread was never meant to insult....read the op

Also, your excuse that games should be in the games section doesnt fly;

1) There have been 2 bible quiz threads here
https://www.nairaland.com/875149/bible-quiz
https://www.nairaland.com/633995/bible-quiz

2) A bible quiz thread should be in the religion section

--------------------------------------------------

Please reconsider your actions.

I have clearly been avoiding getting banned or opening abusive threads. Thatshould count for something
The difference, sir logicboy, is those threads are not mocking anybody. It is not a bible quiz thread, it is a bible quiz thread to mock & insult christians. You may not have intended it so as you say, but it clearly has become one.

I merely suggested to open the thread in the games section if you wanted to carry on, not that games are not allowed here. Thanks.
Foreign AffairsRe: Black America: Its A Pity by JeSoul(f): 3:51pm On May 14, 2013
The problems of the Black community in America are deep & complex, and will take generations of concerted effort to fix. While more & more Blacks are successful in many fields/industries, more and more the community as a whole continues the vicious cycle of this:
1. the highest unemployment level
2. lowest in terms of socio-economic status
3.highest crime rate
4. broken families / unmarried girls with kids from different men
If it was an easy fix it wouldn't be happening, but the mental fabric is so filthy, I don't even know where to start. Gangs & drugs are also a huge problem.

Roland17: Its a very big shame that the league/ referees are doing everything possible to protect the heats, especially with some silly calls and in sane flopping, LBJ had no right to go to ground from that push!!!!!and watching Wade also flop made me almost turn off the TV.
For reals. I just shake my head...I used to always laugh off the conspiracy crowd as nuts but more and more it does seem like the officials do whatever they can to make sure the big teams (LA, Boston, Miami) advance - David Stern, e ku se!

I don't belong to the school of thought that believe Rose should come back, dude is scared of a relapse, every athlete is different, the season is done by far, his coming back would not save them either, its become more of a mental issue..
Me I am in that school of thought oh! Sorry, the guy is a superstar franchise player. He gets paid an insane amount of money to NOT be a human like the rest of us so you cannot subject him to you or my standard. I'm with Forry...there are other lesser athletes coming back from ACL surgeries every day, his continuing to warm the bench because of "lack of muscle memory" is just embarrasing.
SportsRe: The NBA Begins by JeSoul(f): 4:54pm On May 13, 2013
Roland17: Arguing the heats are not floppers is impossible , especially with last night's display, its very bad for the game.
Sorry just had to revisit Birdman's claim that the Heat don't flop.... cheesy cheesy common dude, common...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rM7sIEZTFYk

The Heat are arguably the BEST at flopping in the league today, real great team work to pull of some of the Oscar-calibre acting jobs. And I like Lebron oh, but truth must be said.
