onitshaigbo: Which ones? The only ones are those that the whites left behind and form the majority or are still in power. Remember China and Japan were never colonised. India and Pakistan were colonised, and they are still dirt-poor, much poorer than Nigeria.Singapore got independence in 1965 and it is even more developed than many western countries. (Nigeria got independence before them) According to the British colonial records, Ghana and Malaysia were on an economic par in 1950s. Today, you know the difference between both countries. (And even Ghana that was poor in the 80's is now ahead of Nigeria. You can keep on denying that fact, but it is the fact.) |
onitshaigbo: Who is to say that Britain, US, and EU aren't encouraging Nigerian leaders to launder their money in the West? Maybe criticising our corruption is just a guise. It's in their interest that Nigerians are corrupt and that corrupted money goes to their countries. Do you think corrupted governors and ministers are clients of Nigerian bankers? NO! They use oyibo bankers from London, New York, and Zurich. They've stolen from us before openly, now they're stealing from us and we don't even know! Our government is just their puppet! Why is your government that can only be used as puppets to destroy its own people? When is your own government going to use the EU/American leaders as puppets? When? Several Asian and American countries that were colonised just like Nigeria have developed so much. Look at South Africa that went through apartheid until 2 decades ago. And Nigeria makes much more money than most of these countries. |
Rossikk: Stop dodging the question and the issue. The question being: How can someone who is an accessory to theft be pontificating about corruption in your country? And it will be better if you stop dodging these questions, 1. Did the EU ask Nigeria leaders to continue stealing after decades of independence? 2. Did the EU force Nigerian leaders to steal Nigerian money and store in European banks? 3. Is the infrastructure, or your so called development proportional to the income Nigeria make yearly? Yes, the British stole from Nigeria and made it poor. No one is denying that fact. But attacking what the British did decades ago and ignoring what your leaders have been doing for since independence is just making excuse for them to keep on stealing and doing very, very minimal work. If you want to be fair, make your debate objective and not one sided. |
Rossikk: My brother do you know I'm beginning to suspect that some ancient deity blinded Africans in some way, perhaps as payback for rejecting him? I mean, how these people can sit here and tell me it's ok for the EU or US to complain about corruption in Nigeria, even as they sit on trillions of our money including the one stolen by they themselves, and yet we take them seriously when they pontificate, is beyond me.Did the European banks put a gun to your leaders head to steal your country's wealth and bring to them. Are European banks now interpol, IRS, anti-fraud unit or whatever you choose to call them? Are bank not companies? Do you mean Nigerian banks will refuse money from Europeans and Americans? If a bank suspect your source of money, they can only report it to their authorities. And for a European authority to act, they need evidence that that particular person committed a crime in their land. Just like Ibori that your leaders acquit of all crimes and Alamieyeseigha that was recently pardoned. If a crime was not committed in the EU country, it is only Nigeria that has the right to investigate such a crime. And if there is the crime, the bank has every right to allow them save their money there. And till date, how many of your corrupt leaders have your government served justice? And with people like you making them look like saints, one can only wonder. |
A-town:So, when are your people going to collaborate with EU leaders so they can embezzle their countries money and hide them in Nigerian Banks. Are you trying to say Nigerian leaders are gullible robots with no minds of their own that can be manipulated by the west over and over again? Or, are you part of the cartel loathing the country dry and fighting any information that shed light on their corrupt activities. The issue is, Nigeria is an independent country with its own leaders to make its own decisions. |

pat077: when has having a child become a major achievement in life or is it a prerequisite to make heaven?I wonder o. It will baffle you the way some Nigerians reason. What about those that chose not to have kids? How about those that want to have kids but could not? No wonder you see some evil people selling babies to desperate women who feel the society see them as useless when they have no kids. And in the middle of this, he will never ask himself, what would happen to some children if their parent die young? Or he assume some of those children who grew up in the street and turned out to be hardened criminals were born by aliens. ![]() |

boron10: Private company is the way forward, although there is the possibility of paying through our nose within the first few years of their taking over the distribution of power. Are people not paying through their nose already? Or do you mean 24 hours or light using generator will be cheaper than 24hrs of light from private companies? People will pay for what they use and industries will have the chance to grow while new one will spring up. Also, investors will be more interested in investing in the country. Think of all the difference good electricity can do to Nigeria. Farmers and market sellers can preserve their fresh food. Many Nigeria companies can go digital. Services will be easily reachable. Hospital equipment will have power to operate them. So many things i cannot even name. A lot of Nigerians are still living in darkness. Look at Nairaland, the majority of Nigerians here are based abroad, Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt and few from other cities. Why, because of lack of electricity. |

Another rape incident as the Nigerian army parades two men for rapping a woman, taking her photos and demanding the sum of N10million from her. The men threatened to release the images to the public if the woman refuse to pay them. The incident took place in Effurun, Warri in Delta state. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OB4i-6D_M94 Source: http://afrocosmopolitan.com/nigerian-army-parades-duo-who-kidnapped-raped-and-demanded-n10m-from-victim/ On a side note. Why is it that the army are the ones arresting and parading these culprits? Just like the one that took place in Bonny Island. What is the job of the Nigerian police again? |

Afam4eva: Now, this has got to be a joke. It seems the the word "Influential" has changed in meaning. If the had awarded her the best actress, it would have been understandable because that is subjective. But being influential means commaning a huge followership and respect and i don't think Omotola will make top 50 of the most influential people in Nigeria. But i will give her the benefit of the doubt and find out the criteria that these people use...Btw, can someone tell me which Nigerian artiste has the largest Twitter or Facebook followership. Something in me tells me that that was the criteria used. I hope not sha.Maybe this thread will give you a little bit of understanding to how much follower-ship she can pull https://www.nairaland.com/1191529/omotola-becomes-first-nigerian-celeb |

Edoboy1: ........what do u mean? What is the church offence? Do they pay before wedding in ur churc? I wonder how some of u reason. No wonder una dey fail for school.Stop typing rubbish. Did you read these lines Immediately following the praise and worship session and before the officiating commenced, a woman who claims to be the lawful wife of the groom disrupted the ceremony. She was accompanied by people who sought only to wreck havoc in the church. They were unruly and violent. (Look at way they condemn the wife's action while nothing is said of the man who deceived the church, his wife and probably the mistress. It makes it look like they were even aware he was married) We regret the ugly series of events that followed this brash display. At the Overcomers Church, we do our due diligence to ensure a couple set to wed is right in the eyes of the law and in the eyes of God. To the best of our knowledge, Mr. Akiyesi, was unmarried. The Overcomers Church World Outreach regrets that the woman who disrupted the wedding chose such a time to do so. There is no ideal situation here, but it would have been right that she bring the case before church officials in a manner befitting a house of worship. This was not the case. The groom, Mr. Akiyesi, has apologised to the Church, his bride-to-be, Ms. Agwu, and family and friends that gathered for the wedding. “ (None of the apologies goes to his wife for trying to marry another woman without informing his wife). He admits he did not properly dissolve his previous marriage to his first wife and says he is determined to do what is necessary to rectify the awful situation. (this means the church will wed them immediately the first marriage is dissolved) Bishop Moses prayed for the couple, Mr. Akiyesi and Ms. Agwu, but he did not legally wed them –no documents were signed so as not to disobey the law. Mr. Solomon Akiyesi and Ms Uloma Agwu will not be legally joined together until the matter is properly settled by lawful authorities. (Same here, they are in support of the man divorcing his wife and wedding him and his mistress) We stand by Ms. Agwu. She has been a dedicated member of the church and we will continue to support her and Mr. Akiyesi. (They did not condemn the man. They did not ask if the mistress was aware his husband to be was married. And they stand by her because she is a dedicated member. That means, they are not looking at the situation in an impartial way without favour) And this is the mans Facebook update, he never denied the fact that he was married. And the church is supporting them all the way. |
According to findings from a research by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and an accompanying article by Aljazeera, 8 out of 10 women from Nigerian are involved in the trend of skin bleaching. The trend is also very common in Nollywood as most actresses engage in skin bleaching. Only a few of the actresses maintain their dark while in the Nigerian showbiz world. One Nolywood actress the skin bleaching trend silly is Ini Edo. According to her, “I think it’s the silliest thing to do. It’s a big sign of lack of confidence. And I have never been tempted to do it.” Like Ini said, it is a matter of low confidence. Most of the women who are into skin bleaching it say looking lighter gives them a chance to be successful as well as in finding a husband.
