Most of us have read so much on the topics that we can almost be termed experts. But practical experience is an important reason why i came on line.
I am clearing land of 10 acres to be used for cucumbers. I have read so much about cucumbers and i have also been seeking advice from an elderly practising farmer. But as the saying goes knowledge is not restricted to one person I would love to be having a step by step guide and interactions with experience farmers from Oyo State.
My land will be plow by Saturday. The plan is to plant before the rain seizes and then continue with manual irrigation
I will be sourcing my seed from Technisem/agritropic in Ibadan. The variety for seed that was recommended for me is the Marketer.
I will be visiting Ibadan for more tutorial from my farming mentor.
Any suggestion/contribution/ advice will be appreciated from cucumber farmers

fm7070: this is one other problem with agriculture
you spend a lot of money, self-motivation, time and energy to grow crops in good quantity,
only to find yourself in a situation where you're looking for buyers
the moment buyers notice your desperation, they strike you with bad price
this brings about discouragement.
The next year, such farmer will not plant or plant little
the aftermath will be shortage of food in circulation

That has been farmers major headache. Its not encouraging at all. meanwhile the manufacturers are importing all this products into the country at huge cost

Market has been a major issues with farmers. The agents claim to know the market but would want to reap the farmer off. I think its time farmer have a marketing associations that link directly to market. The so called company also offer ridiculous prices leaving farmers at their mercy. Farmers Marketing group solely owns by farmers will make a big difference

amarawa: Are there proof that tme 419 is not good for garri? According to a report from IITA, tme 419 has about the lowest starch content from their 10 different breeds and it is good for garri, according to them.

Every varieties of cassava is good for gari, starch,cassava chips or whatever purpose one you might want to utilise it for. However, each product have a prefered species baaed on yields and some other parameters
