Thank you for your response mama. I quite agree with you since he is very active and not ill
rvpbae:

I know how disturbed you are but I think it is genetics and your son is fine. He isn't ill, eats well and plays around per usual, that alone should allay your fears.

You can as well still see a paed.

Hello mamas in the house, please I need advice as I am very worried.

Took my DS to the health centre today for Vit A and he weighed 8kg at 1 year, he was 8kg at 9months and 7.6kg at 6 months. Why is he not gaining weight, I just do not understand.
At 8 months we saw a paediatrician when he had fever and i complained about his weight because he was 7.6kg at the time but the paediatrician said the weight was okay, that he would have been worried if he was for instance weighing 9kg and dropped to 7kg. But I'm not pleased at all.
Should I take him back to the hospital? His birth weight was 2.75 and he does not reject food, he eats everything we eat at home. He takes 3 different types of food everyday to the creche including pap with soya beans. Or could it be genetics? Myself and hubby are not on the big side, I weigh about 56kg and hubby weighs a little bit less.
Has someone had a similar experience, please mamas do not waka pass abeg.

Good evening mamas in the house, my son who is 8months today can sit without support, moves around with his tummy, but my problem is that he doesn't bounce when held in a standing position on the laps. He doesnt even agree to stand sef, he will just bend both knees and either sit or kneel.

Should this be a cause for concern? Please help me chook mouth.

Try bursting it with cotton wool deep in methylated spirit, apply baby tribotan or sudocrem on it. Stop using cream and sponge on her for the meantime. Wash her clothes with soap only and iron them.

Good day Mamas in the house, please has anyone experienced this on their LO. Someone told me it's caused by heat but I don't really understand this kind of heat in this cold weather. When it bursts, it leaves a wound like scar as seen in the picture attached.

Thanks ma'am, will go to see another doctor by weekend then.
Giddyperson:

I don't know why many doctors would always fall for smiling babies and refuse to run tests. I've learnt to insist, if not all my hospital trips would be wasted.

I've never given Flagyl suspension to my baby but I won't give a 4month old medicine that's meant for 1year+ except a doctor reassures me that's it safe. Since it's been a week and the baby is losing weight, go and see another doctor biko.

Hello Sabi Mamas in the house, i am here again with my plenty wahala.
My 4 months old DS who takes breastmilk and Nan 1 has been stooling for 3-4times a day since last week Monday, one of the days it was as much as 6 times. I gave him zinc, ors and augumentin drops(prescribed by a pharmacist) but no improvement still. He has lost weight already and i decided to carry him to the hospital last night cos i was getting really worried. Only for me to get to the hospital in that rain, my Son was smiling and cooing at the doctor, and the doctor said he is perfectly normal that there is nothing wrong with him. I was like whatttt so you mean i ran out of my house by past 7pm only for you to tell me it is fine for him to suddenly start stooling for 3-4times a day for the past 1 week, please adonbeleivit. His weight 4 weeks ago was 6.8kg, yesterday 6.9kg, i told doctor, he had lost all the weight he had gathered for the past 4 weeks due to the stooling, the doctor said he is even big sef that the average weight for a 4months old is 6.5kg.

Please o, help me torchlight this matter if truly the doctor is right. (The stool is watery, has mucus, yellow and has egusi like particles). He gave me one Famagyl suspension to give so it doesnt look like i returned from the hospital emptyhanded. But going through the leaflet i cant find dosage for babies, it starts from 1year. Has anybody used this drug for their baby? He also gave Ketofung Cream for the eela.

@Stmema come speak about the epidural you had.

I've packed 3 Ankara wrappers and tank tops, disposable pant, 4 lady Sept pad, soap and sponge, toothpaste and toothbrush. My hospital gave baby list but didn't give me any. What else do I need please?
This was the list my hospital gave for mothers, didn't use the methylated spirit though.

[quote author=eipreel post=76042897]Good evening mamas, please what can make a late scan be reading a different(backward) gestational age and a later EDD when compared to the initial EDD? I did a scan at 35wks6days GA according to LMP but scan showed baby at 34wks1day with weight of 2.32kg and moved my EDD forward. Does it mean the baby is quite small for his age?[

I do not think you should be bothered so much about the EDD the late scan is giving. The EDD according to LMP and the first scan are usually more accurate. My EDD according to LMP was 17th of Jan, according to scan at 8 weeks was 21st of Jan, according to last scan at 36 weeks was 6th of Feb but I had my baby on the 10th of Jan as a ftm. I intended to start my mat.leave on the 16th but had to start the day I had my baby.

@jflobaby you can check isheri medical centre at magodo. It's about 4K while Royan is about 7K. About baby being breastmilk drunk...you can express and feed him using bottle. This will even enhance your milk flow

Thanks @mamatito, we did the circumcision at ojodu healtg centre this morning, concerning expressing, i was discouraged by the pain the first time i tried it, will try again. Thanks

BS

Long post alert!!! Please manage my write up

I got married to my DH in June of 2017 and our marriage came under serious spiritual attack, by the time we were 6 months into the marriage it was so bad that we contemplated divorce, by January of 2018 the marriage was practically over and i returned to my aunt's place as my parents were not resident in Lagos. All through this time getting pregnant was the last thing on my mind, working on my marriage if possible was all i was bothered about. While at my aunt's place i decided to seek answers and every pastor or prophet said the same thing - it was a spiritual battle. Some gave strange solutions but i made my mind to hand it over to Jesus as if he cannot resolve it, then no man can. Decided to go to mfm prayer city for prayers and then the road to reconciliation with hubby began, by April i was back to the house. First week of May, i felt sick at work and went to the hospital, doctor asked for my lmp, i thought it meant last day i saw my last period instead of the first day i saw my last period, so the date i gave him made him rule out the possibility of me being pregnant as my period at the time was just a day late which was normal to me. He asked me to do malaria and typhoid test which i did and he gave me malaria drugs.

I took the drugs that night but before taking it, i read the leaflet where it specifically said the drug was not suitable for pregnant women, shortly after taking it, i started vomiting. The following morning i decided to take a pregnancy test at home with the strip before taking the drugs again and it was positive. I rushed back to the hospital and the carried out another test with my blood and result was positive. The female doctor i met said the malaria test i did the previous day showed i did not have malaria, i wondered why the doctor prescribed malaria drugs then. I was then given routine drugs and asked to do a scan at 8 weeks.

When DH got the news he broke down in tears because unknown to me while we were apart and he met some pastors for prayers, one of the pastors told him not to bother going back to our marriage that i will be unable to have my own children, he was really bothered about it and his agreement with God was that he needed me to get pregnant as a confirmation from God that it was truly his will and he was on the right track. And God did it when i wasn't even expecting or trying.

It was a smooth pregnancy, though was vomiting during the 1st trimester and lost a lot of weight as i could barely eat and whatever managed to go in would come out via vomiting. Second trimester was better, no stress until when the devil tried to rear his ugly head. I was only leave at the time and had been indoors all through, then i decided to go out to get maternity clothes as my clothes could no longer fit, on my way back home, the bus i took was on high speed while ascending the iyana oworo bridge (for those who stay in Lagos) before now, i had the urge to tell the driver to reduce the speed and just before this thought left my mind, there was a loud sound, the front tyre had burst and the driver had lost control of the bus, we were swerving from left to right and the bus made for the side of the bridge as if was going to fall off the bridge, but was prevented by the culvert, the force with which the bus hit the culvert made the bus tumble and then it stopped. We all rushed out, the conductor was in critical condition, the passenger who sat by me had a deep cut on her arm, other passengers had various degrees of injury but God preserved me and i came out unhurt. While waiting for the Rapid Response team and the Lagos State Accident and Emergency ambulance, seeing that i was pregnant, one of the passerby gave me a lift, i rushed to the hospital to carry out scan and everything was fine.

Fast forward to when i was 37 weeks, i bought date and had started walking a lot, couldnt eat the date as i did not understand the taste, i also took Queen's pineapple, my next appointment with the gynae was at 38 weeks, by the time i got to the hospital (private), i was told they had finished antenatal for the day and the gynae had left, (i did a lot of trekking on this day) so i went back home saying i would see him at 39 weeks, that night around past midnight, a sharp menstrual like pain woke me up and when i stood up from the bed i felt water dripping down my legs, i woke my DH and like a jjc that he is, he started panicking. I remembered a BS i read here and the mama also saw water my midnight, she waited till morning before going to the hospital so i showed it to DH to calm him down. I could not go back to sleep as i started feeling the contraction pain and was using the contraction app to time it. They were bearable and 6-7mins apart. I got to the hospital around 8am and the doctor came to check me to see how far dilated i was. Oh! how painful it was, i just kept screaming, he said i was 2cm that he will check back by 12noon.

By 12noon, he said i was 3cm, they will come back in the evening to check, all these while i was gisting with mum and mil, and would pause when the contraction hits again, it was painful but i could bear it, the nurse kept telling me it was child's play compared to what was to come. By 6pm a female doctor came to check and said it was still 2cm and asked if i would rather go home and return later. I said no, so she said she would give pain reliever and antibiotics because of the fluid i saw earlier. The pain reliver made me really dizzy and i was able to sleep for few hours. By the time the effect of the pain reliever was gone, i started feeling the original contraction pain. God! It messed up my mind/brain. I kept counting from 1 to 10 in my mind just to distract myself from the pain until the pain was over while still breathing in and out with my mouth. This was after midnight and i kept looking at the time and pacing about, i could not lie down because it seemed like the contractions got worse while lying down. I was tired, in pains, couldnt seat for long, knelt on the floor just to get comfortable , for where! Ijust kept praying for it to be morning already. By 6am the following day 10th of January, a nurse came to check fetal heart beat and i asked her if i could be given pain reliever, she said no o, that do i want to start all over again, i should not take any pain reliever bla bla bla. I asked if the doctor will come check me, she said yes, so i waited for the doctor.

By 8am, the doctor checked and said i was 6cm and he wants to burst my water to fasten the process, he tried but i just kept screaming and he couldnt do it, so he let me go saying by 12noon it should have burst on its own, i pleaded with him to give me pain reliever which he did and i was able to rest for a while. By 12 noon i was checked again and was 8cm, the doctor was able to burst my water and i didnt feel pain for some minutes and was able to lie down. They picked my things and asked myself and my mum to move to the delivery room, when the contraction pain returned i was crying, as the counting of numbers was no longer working and my mind was just a mess, at a point, i told my mum i wanted to poo poo and she rushed to call the doctor, he came checked me and said it wasnt yet time to push, i should hang on a little and he was giving lectures on how he wanted me to push and the number of pushes he expected for the baby to come. I pleaded with him not to leave me alone in the delivery room, so he waited, few minutes later he gave me the go ahead to push with every contraction that hits me. I tried my best kept pushing, after about 4 pushes he said he was going to tear me, which he went ahead with, i kept pushing but baby was not coming out, he said the baby needed to come out immediately because its not safe for him to remain in the position where he was at the time. We continued no show by this time, the doctor was worried and kept asking what the problem was, the nurse and my mum started praying and the nurse was pressing my tommy as well. Finally my baby came out and he was placed on me for like 5 secs before he was whisked away to be attended to.

They put some tubes in his nose and mouth to suck out liquid and turned him upside down, rubbed his body downwards and tapped his buttocks as he was not crying, he finally cried. The doctor delivered the placenta, told me he was going to inject me so i wont feel it while he was stitching me up, i didnt feel any pain and the stitches were neatly done. That was how my DS was born by past 2 weighing 2.75kg with tear.

I want to send a mail to my HR to change my HMO plan from individual to family so my baby can be covered and i can consider having it done where he was delivered at no cost.

Do you have an idea of how much it costs at Royan? These private hospitals can be expensive.

Thanks mama, i actually searched the thread after making my post and got several options, will try them one after the other till we get desired results. Thanks for responding to my post,God bless.

Ikeja GH won't take you serious cos they are more about emergency cases.
Try going to health centres or a smaller GH.
In surulere here, Randle GH does it every Friday by 8am you should be registered and must have paid.

Yoghurt did it for me when I just had my baby, Talltosyne (she's here) makes Yoghurt that makes you lactate like crazy and doesn't fatten unlike the sugar loaded yogurts that you find in supermarkets.
You can also try fenugreek and drinking warm water helps too.

Thanks mama zaynie for your response, will ask my mum to go register and pay tomorrow so we can have it done on friday.

@ Talltosyne, how do i get the yoghurt please.

Good morning mamas in the house, im officially reporting to this thread. I has my DS on the 10th of January and i am yet to get a place to do his circumcision. I had him in a private hospital through my HMO and when i inquired about circumcision they said i should bring him back after naming. But that hospital is too expensive jare, we spent 72k for treating mild jaundice through phototherapy that i later discovered we could have easily done at home by allowing the early morning rays of sun get to him.
Mum went to ikeja general hospital to make enquiries yesterday but they kept tossing her from immunisation unit to family planning to gynaecology, they all claimed they dont do it.
Please i need contact of any nurse that can come do the ring own for us at home or if there is an hospital we can easily walk in to get it done. I stay at opic after ojodu berger.

Secondly, this baby friendly thing doesnt seem to be working for me. I had to give DS Nan on the 3rd date after delivery as he was not getting enough milk supply and kept crying. Up until now, he still doesnt get satisfied with breast milk alone making the vigilante business more difficult as he stays on the breasts for long and once i lay him down after he manages to sleep he wakes up within 5 - 10 mins crying for food and the whole cycle starts again but once he is fed Nan, he gets knocked out and sleep for long hrs if you like blow trumpet his sleep will not be distured.

I had to buy lactation cookies and one milky shake i saw online yesterday, i also tried getting the mixed millet, guinea corn pap but was not available at the supermarket i checked, (i have been taking yellow pap and milk before now). Hubby bought more tins of Nan yesterday and said all he cares about is for his son to be well fed undecided. Please what else can i take to make this milk flowing. This dude needs to get high on breast milk not Nan. Lol

Sabi mamas biko i look forward to hear from you.
