Saddamochieng00: I'm not denying the evidence you brought up, all I'm saying is that it'll only be fair for me to bring my own photos so we can compare. Don't you you think so too?
By the way how's the butterfly sanctuary coming along?
so you agree you can see the curvature in my photo right? Now what other evidence do you need? If you ever do get on a jumbo you'll see the exact same thing!! It's not about being fair or letting you bring your own photos because if you ever do get on a jumbo you'll see the exact same thing.
I already promised I'll get you some of my own personal photos. Only that I haven't gotten the chance to travel out with all this vaxx and PCR test requirements.
And if you think such evidence is going to change my mind then you're clearly mistaken. I ain't no sheep to believe whatever NASA says
so photographic evidence from my own camera is not enough??
Odunayaw: There's something I dont understand about this yapping about downsizing. 55k standing military is too small for SA, what do you think?
if they are going to downsize then they should start at the top with our Generals of which there are far to many, our problem isn't size related but due to being bloated at the top hence 50% of our budget goes to salaries
Marais is the Shadow Minister for the opposition party, he knows very well how the serviceability of our offensive platforms work... Submarines: 1 in service, 1 in reserve, 1 under maintenance. Frigates more or less the same, give or take 1-2 in service.... Also there have been 2 subs at sea in the last couple of months.... But let's not let the truth get in the way of political grandstanding
However Rooivalk upgrade is a must, Oryx was upgraded just a couple of years ago to mk2 standard... Maybe he didn't remember project drummer??
MPA procurement is a must!!
New medium and tactical airlift to replace our C130s and casa 212s are also a must...
Lurker4Long: They're not SA Army SF, but SANDF SF, drawn from all services: Army, Navy, Air Force and Military Health. Which is why, as a strategic asset, they are under the direct command of Chief of Joint Ops. But I suspect you know this and were using shorthand. Incidentally, I agree with the Defence Review recommendation that 1 Para should be moved to report to CJOps, as backup to SF. Chief of Army won't like it, but it makes sense. In any case, 44 Para Regiment now has a 2nd Para battalion in 4 Para and should have no problem giving up 1 Para.
We'll wait and see what the new Chief of SANDF, who previously commanded SF Brigade, does.
not short hand just a typo I was actually busy doing a post on the SA Army..... Actually wrote "SA Army armour" but then I saw the photos of our SFs with UGVs and posted that instead....I thought i deleted the Army part and just wanted to write SA SFs....
IGpro1: one would think a self acclaimed 'military' blogger would study Albania/Azerbaijan war, from 90s till the most recent one. Where number of tanks and amoured vehicles didn't matter.
Technology wise, SA has an edge over Nigeria But I can't say same for military capability.
smh Well they say opinions are like A$$holes.... Everybody's got one!!
Covert1: Don't you think you need some more time to get acquainted with the current realities since leaving the pen. This is not 2011. This is 2021.
No. All your Frigates are not working. Actually they are sitting in dry dock inoperable except for one still undergoing refit. If you want to go so low to claim falsehoods here you have it.
The NN decommissioned its missile boats including the Frigate Aradu to better restrategize for better output as the costs of fleet maintenance outweighed the prestige reasons of sea going missile platforms which is the current debilitating situation of the SAN. Turning Aradu into a training ship doesn't declassify it as a Frigate rather a force multiplier in terms of training for a new one.
People do care about patrol boats. Actually ocean patrol boats are the darling of Navies. It ensures continuous presence at sea. You are not a Navy if you have all the missiles but can't sail and show the flag, you are no better than a land force. And if we are going by NN classification then we have two sea going Frigates in the high endurance Hamilton cutters. But let's come to the future. 3 OPVs and 3 inshore IPVs in a forever time that stubbornly refuses to see the daylight is actually laughable to us. This is something we have and are acquiring like the water they sail on Have you bothered to check us out. Fact is we have since left you behind on that one.
Your Gripens are not the NG standard so at our current level in Nigeria you are obsolete. One Nigerian Air Force BVR JF-17 Thunder equals almost half of your entire Gripen fleet and can track and hit your multiple Gripens before they know what hit them even if it's a Mig which it is not. In fact none of your rationed pilots assuming you find one will dare go up against a BVR capable jet, its suicide. Besides the M346FA in the numbers mentioned is already a credible deterrent. Are you even aware of these developments. See you are the one retarde.d and to think you of all people.
GBADS or GBEDS or whatever you call it if it's not integrated S-400 battery which is the known threat worldwide to stand-off platform is useless against a single JF-17 Thunder which will take them out out of radar range. In fact before you say Jack the M346FA is picking targets like a walk in the park over Pretoria, Durban, Capetown and Johannesburg.
If your Rooivalk is superior to Mi-35M how come no export orders but the Mi-35M is. You think you know better than the Marshals of Air Forces worldwide. Please show us your rank.
Nigeria has the largest tank force in sub-saharan Africa. Even if we have one VT-4 tank it will deter any of your Olifants showing up.
- Pic: Valour Frigates and Submarines clearly in dry doc called the Atlantic ocean last month also did you mis read the link which clearly shows that SAS Amatola received her refit back in 2015?
- so in other words the NN has 0 blue water capability?
- Pic: SA navy IPVs
- With all your patrol boats your water is still pirate invested and ours aren't, not even when the suez canal was blocked for months and our waters where flooded with ships across the globe did we even have a single piracy incident.
- I never said they were NG standard.... Learn to read agaustine, I said they are the latest standard C/D variant. Also we are developing our own BVR the Merlin which has already completed live fire testing last year..... What BVR has NAF ordered....
- SA has the largest Radar network in Africa.... All linked to LinkZA of course.... Meaning if any enemy fighter comes into SA airspace they will be spotted by our Radar and that information fed in real time to our Grippen who can thus fly without even turning there radar own making them invisible to enemy fighters.... That of course if our GBADS haven't blown them out of the skies by then.....you are to obsessed with the S400 which FYI has failed miserably all over the world.
- if you actually where a defence researcher as you claimed to be then you would know that the Rooivalk failed solely because of politics..... In terms of performance it out classed all during the tender phase of both Malaysia and Turkey.
- Mi35s are cheap.... That's why they are popular.
- you only have 12 VT4s worth mentioning.... The rest are ww2 relics which have constantly been destroyed or captured by Boko Haram.
Covert1: Well apparently whoever received the orders to forever keep you silent when caught may have misread the memo. Someone let you out but no quarters shall be taken you will be dealt with accordingly for escaping the pen
Seriously now no jokes. You destroyed yourself. Your ignorance is an open shame. I'd only engage you fairly if you state the facts.
Nigeria does have a Frigate only in no better shape currently like yours except for one undergoing refit. Please let us know when that happens, we keep waiting with missed deadlines. Meanwhile Nigeria is on track for a modern Frigate and two new OPVs to make 4 new modern OPVs to cover for a shortfall of 8 needed. When compared to your OPV & Inshore projects I'm sure you'd agree Nigeria is doing a far better job and on pace. It is an aberration to say Nigeria has no offensive platforms maybe you mean missile weaponry. The heavy guns on our modern OPVs can hit a range of about 100km with precision targeting. That is a heavy firepower that qualifies as offensive. It is a credible threat from the sea.
The SAAF Gripen has received no mid-life upgrades. We keep hearing about these contracts that never see the light of day due to lack of funds. Meanwhile our F-7Ni much newer have received upgrades. Besides we have just inducted BVR capable air superiority fighters. Remember when we used to talk about it that it makes the difference. Well now we have it in the JF-17 Thunder and you don't. A fly-by-wire stand-off weapon delivery air platform is not a 3rd generation fighter.
Nigeria's Mi-35M is superior to the Rooivalk. Nigeria also now has the A-29 Super Tucano and expecting the arrival of attack M346FA.
If your air defence system is not S-400 please spare us the tirade. Yours is medium range.
Tell us something we don't know about datalinks. It is not much of a luxury these days. You must be living in the past in the pen.
Nigeria perhaps has 35 modern VT-4 tanks but exact numbers are not known. The VT-4 is a 3rd generation tank it is insane to compare it with world war 11 olifant tanks upgraded or not. Only you perhaps will choose the latter. And China is the de jure superpower. Wake up.
Now enjoy below the video of our brand new Nigerian Navy Hydrographic Vessel NNS Lana and the smart salute of the NN officer as the ship departs Spain for Nigeria. Another one is contracted already along with 2 new LSTs as well. We are still here waiting for you to join the club. Will be a welcome development.
- our frigates are all operating?? How is it that Aradu is in the same shap? Also it was/is going to be turned in to a training vessel with 0 offensive weapons.
- nobody cares about patrol boats... SAN is getting 3 60m+ IPVs which would easily be classified as OPVs by NN standards
- they get upgraded every time SAAB releases new upgrade packages.... I've posted the link on here several times, Saaf Gripens are as modern as any C/D variants currently in operation anywhere in the world.
- I never said it was a S-400 system, our doctrine calls for a layered approach when it comes to our air defence, go do a little research on the GBADS system before spewing nonsense, also don't compare your MIGs(JF17 and F7) with our Gripen... It makes you look ret@rded.
- in every way shap and form the Rooivalk far out classes the Mi35 which can't even hover. Rooivalk is faster, higher range, higher hover ceiling, higher service ceiling, more hard points, lower RCS, has Radar, higher range, better hmd ect ect ect
- nope you received 35 vehicles from China in total that includes, tank destroyers and SPHs.... You did not receive 35 VT4 tanks
kabe1: @Covert1 has made an outstanding, roboust counter-argument, but I'll like to go a different route.
Equipment
South-African Valour class frigates were ordered in 1999, that is 22 years ago. There has been no evidence of any sort of mid-life upgrade, so to make a claim that they are modern is quite ridiculous.
Same argument can would be made for their submarines.
SAAF Gripens were also ordered 22 years ago, there are multiple Gripen upgrade packages available in the base C/D model, none have been carried out on the Gripens.
Attack Helicopters SAAF has 9 units in service, 1 Rooivalk crashed, another is used as a test bed.
They only have 9 in service, SAAF Attack Helicopters are not more modern than the MI-35M Nigeria has in service.
The Umkhonto Air Defence system is only installed on the Valour Frigates, nowhere else. You need to stop exaggerating the SANDF.
169 Oerlikon GDF 35mm guns, along with 75 Superfledermaus fire control units (FCUs) Skyshield air defence systems, Thales Air Defence Starstreak.......... These are very, very old systems.
The SANDF does not have any ELINT system.
Link-ZA is a basic communication system, all capable militaries in Africa have a Data-Link system.
That's how for example Commanders in Abuja can see in real-time footage and information from Drones flying over Gwoza, from a Mobile control station in Yola.
Apart from 15 upgraded Tanks, the SA army field Olifant Tanks which are World War II Centurion tanks. Nothing modern about them.
The sheer ignorance of you and Covert1 has awakened me from the dead.
FYI or Valour class frigates were commissioned in 2006....that's 15 years not 22....... Nigeria doesn't even have a frigate, or any sort of offensive navy platforms
- Saaf has had a contract with SAAB for years now which includes receiving all Gripan C/D upgrades when they become available. NAF has 3 JF17 (Literally mig upgrades) that have been classified by the manufacturer itself as a 3rd gen fighter
- there are 11Rooivalk in service with Saaf.... Not 9 blatant lies will never change reality also yes in terms of capability they destroy mi35s which FYI can't even fvcking hover..
- the Umkhonto SAM system is part of GBADS...so yeah it isn't just fitted to our frigates
- Our Oerlikon have been upgraded to the latest gdf007 standard..... Which is far from an old system and used by some of the most modern defence forces in the world
- LinkZA is a TDL..... The fact that you think its a basic communication system shows how clueless you are on the subject.....there is a reason only a handful of countries actually have a defence force wide TDL.... South Africa being the only country in Africa with such a capability.
- 26 mk2 and over 150 mk1b Olifant how many Chinese tanks did Nigeria buy again? Less than a dozen
rvp20182: The difference is now minimal. You just need to look at videos. Picture test. Nairobi is growing very fast.
High rises - Nairobi I believe will overtake Joburg very very soon if it hasn't already.
Roads. By next year - with completion of Nairobi Expresseway - Valley Road/Upperhill expansion with interchanges - Western By-Pass - James Gichuru-Rironi - the expansion of Eastern and Northern by-passes- the road infrastructure will be a few notches below Joburg. From there - I can only think about expanding very few roads - Kiambu, Limuru, Kamiti,Kangundo, maybe ABC - through Lavington. Nairobi would be there in roads.
BRT - we are getting about 60Km of BRT next year
Light rail - we have decent old MGR line that is being modernized - if we get more DMUs - we would be about there. Nairobi Railway City - and in the future - a proper light rail - will nail it.
Nairobi is fixing the water problem - at least huge part - with completion of Nairobi North Collector project. Sewage still is a problem.
Telecommunication - broadband - and likes - Nairobi has already overtaken Joburg.
Also if we get housing fixed - with social housing to replace slums and old estates - then Nairobi will be untouchable in Sub-Saharan Africa - South Africans will be come to see a modern city
As for Nairobi metro - there is huge infrastructure deficit there - it will be another 10-15yrs before Nairobi metro compete with Gauteng.
Kenyans have tried their best to build real estate - but paved roads are lacking, sewage system absent, water mostly boreholes, and there is no railway and mass transport - we need to invest heavily in Nairobi Metro - because those county gov cannot prioritize Nairobi metro over rural areas of the counties.
- Johannesburg has more skyscrapers and as I proved before Nairobi would not even overtake Johannesburg if we include projects under construction or proposed
- The road network in Gauteng alone is more than the entire Kenya
- All SA's major cities have BRT systems
- How has Nairobi overtaken Johannesburg wrt telecommunication?
rvp20182: Nairobi Eastland - this is where Nairobi lower middle class live in. Has more high or low rises than any Africa city outside Cairo in my view
