And then the Benin street lamps it was often just a lamp attacked to a wooden pole for example in this picture you can very clearly see the pole sticking out over the wall it was positioned like this so it could also light the houses which compounds were behind the walls, also attached is the lamp that they hooked it to.

you said it was street lamps....as in iron street poles... Not lamps hanging from a stick and this photo was obviously taken after 1875.....London was definitely more developed at this time than the Benin kingdom if we go by this picture....
