agaugust: When missiles are wasted and finished, jet fighters turn to cannon/gun fight. No 4th generation aircraft in this world will defeat an Su-30 Flanker in a gun fight where super-maneuverability is the ONLY deciding factor for victory.
Show us how Gripen jet will handle Su-30 cobra movement-super maneuverability ! Angola will demolish South Africa in less than 1 minute !
Dude! your posting airshow tricks while im talking about actual combat. The Gripen has a wing loading of 283 kg/m2 meaning it can turn tighter than any fighter in the world! I urge you to find a modern fighter with a lower wing loadig!
The video proves my point, the A109 was virtually non-existent.
What do you mean non existent? it was there the whole time, go read the description of the video, there were 2 oryx and 1 A109 on this particular relief effort, thus all the images where you see the 2 Oryx in flight, it means the footage was taken from the A109.
Henry120: That's just to say crashes with the A109 are quite high. It's not an accurate stat.
That Helicopter is popular for doing nothing.
Well SAAF A109s did an awesome job in Mozambique in atrocious weather, yes our a109s had their problems but thats all sorted out now and i personally think its a great LUH.

agaugust: In WVR combat of short range missiles, everybody dies at the same rate because, pilots are too close and missiles will hit targets in 10 seconds. Forget maneuverability if your pilots are not trained to exercise superior split second judgement and decision making. NAF has a modern and deadly PL-9 missile with 90% kill probability.
The advantage of the Su-30 in WVR combat will only come in a gun fight with aircraft cannon after both sides have finished wasting their missiles with ECM like flares and chaff self defences. Then your Su-30 will defeat an F-7 with better Su-30 maneuverability, it will also beat the South African Gripen jet because of the Gripen's poor maneuverability that is on par with the F-7. The Gripen is no good without BVR missiles and the South Africans have NO single BVR missile.
I will rank air to air combat capability thus :
1. Angola 2. Nigeria & South Africa .
"it will also beat the South African Gripen jet because of the Gripen's poor maneuverability that is on par with the F-7." Jap, your an id1ot. Gripen has a much much lower wing loading meaning it can turn tighter than the su30. The same thrust/weight ratio Much better rate of climb Same max speed Much lower stall speed Better radar Better tracking systems better HMD ect ect
And FYI...The Gripen has a lower wing loading than the Euro Fighter, Rafale, Su35, Su37, su47, F22, F35 ect ect thus meaning it is one of the most maneuverable(if not thee most maneuverable) Fighters on the market.
dacostaANG: I wanna start of by comparing current Air power of Angola, South Africa, Nigeria.
First of all I would like to ask my brothers from Nigeria if there air force has the capability to take Angola on in a dogfight between SU-30K's vs F-7 currently in service of our respective nations.
a F-7 has absolutely 0% chance in a visual range dog fight with a Su-30, as for BVR combat, i cant comment as im not sure which BVR missiles Angola possesses.
Henry120: 1 in 5 Helicopter crashes around the world involves an A109. I don't think I can recall any military that flies an A109 which hasn't had an A109 crash. It doesn't matter the environment or weather conditions of the country in use.
For a Helicopter that carries only 6 passengers, that's just hopeless for an African military.
The minimum carrying capacity for an African light utility Helicopter should be 10 troops, anything below is just a waste of money.
Across the Navy and Airforce, Nigeria has 18 A109's, Navy 6 (one lost to crash). Yet the Nigerian Airforce and Navy are in the market for transport Helicopters.
Question is, if the A109 is of any use, why look for additional Helicopters?
"1 in 5 Helicopter crashes around the world involves an A109" Sorry i fail to believe that stat unless you provide a source, im not saying A109s dont crash but you have to put in perspective that its one of the most popular helicopters in the world, thus the more there are the greater the chance of one of them crashing.
Henry120: I was wondering about the antennas on the nose of the Oryx Helicopter. Any idea what they are there for?
The Super-puma remains my ideal Naval utility Helicopter. Perfect for a variety of roles(ASW, SAR,utility,VBSS, fire control) carries 20 fully equipped troops.
I've never hidden my disgust for the A109, it's a useless Helicopter and serious militaries don't fly that crap, except for VIP role.
As i was saying (before i got banned for no reason), i dont think those antennas are new, used to lve less than 2km from 17sqds base, thus i saw Oryx and A109 helicopters on a daily bases, and all of them sported those antennas, not really sure what they are for(might just be for radio or GPS),but they could be new as Project Drummer 2 is drawing to an end, as for the A109 i quite like the A109 as a Light utility helicopter, no doubt its had its problems as i dont think the original A109 was well suited for the african environment and led to the grounding of SAAF A109s fleet, but after a few modifications i think SAAFs A109 proved its self this year when it did an exceptional job providing humanitarian aid when floods hit Mozambique.
Henry120: The cost of the SAS Amatola’s refit may have been inflated by R100-million
THE Department of Defence has funnelled R406-million for ship maintenance and repairs to a private company because it says it can no longer look after its own fleet. And the fortunate recipient of taxpayers’ cash is a company chaired and co-owned by the founder of the Friends of Jacob Zuma Trust, Don Mkhwanazi. Southern African Shipyards, in which Mkhwanazi has a 48% stake together with its CEO, Prasheen Maharaj, has benefited from six naval contracts in the past three years, including a R335-million deal to refit the arms deal frigate SAS Amatola. The department said it had had to outsource the work because of “capacity constraints” at the Simon’s Town naval dockyard. But the Durban company’s lucrative relationship with the military has raised concerns and prompted a call for a probe by the auditor-general. The Sunday Times has established that: The R335-million Amatola refit tender has ballooned to about R360-million because of “unforeseen events”; Several industry experts said the original contract amount was inflated by between R60-million and R100-million; The cost — one of the most expensive navy refits by a private firm — prompted questions in parliament by DA defence shadow minister David Maynier. In a written response two weeks ago, Defence and Military Veterans Minister Nosiviwe MapisaNqakula confirmed that R406million was being paid to Southern African Shipyards; and Unlike the latest frigate refit tender issued earlier this year, the Amatola tender was not handled by Armscor but by the navy’s own procurement centre. Despite insisting the Amatola contract was put out to public tender, the navy has steadfastly refused to clarify queries about apparent irregularities. Mkhwanazi and other Southern African Shipyards shareholders insist it is above board — and has nothing to do with Mkhwanazi’s ties to Zuma. Responding to the Sunday Times in writing, Mkhwanazi said: “The president does not award tenders . . . Any relationship with the president cannot be linked to contract awards made via a public tender process.” Maharaj described as “sour grapes” the suggestion that the deal was politically motivated. “Every government contract we have won, whether it has been Transnet or South African Navy, has been won through a public tender process,” he said. “We don’t think our offer of R335-million tender was overpriced. In fact, it was the cheapest bid received via an open public tender process,” he said. Maynier, who called for an independent probe, disagreed: “First, the cost of the SAS Amatola’s refit was stratospheric and may have been inflated by as much as R100-million. “Second, the SAS Amatola’s refit brought the local shipbuilding industry to its knees because the dry dock was effectively shut down. “And third, it’s strange that [R400-million] would be sunk into a private company in Durban, rather than into the South African Navy dockyard.” Southern African Shipyards has also received a R1.4-billion contract to build tug boats for Transnet. Mkhwanazi, a Southern African Shipyards shareholder since 2006 and Transnet director between 2010 and 2012, said he had declared his shareholding on the day he was appointed to the Transnet board. “The tug contract awarded to Southern African Shipyards became effective on 1 August 2014, more than two and a half years after [my] tenure as a director of Transnet ended,” he said.
Whats your point? The fact that we upgrade our ships every few years and the NN doesnt?
Henry120: Arms deal vessels marooned by neglect ONLY one of South Africa’s four arms deal frigates and one of three submarines are operational — and some are falling apart. One frigate has a cracked rudder, another needs an engine replaced and a third has been under repair for almost a year, the Sunday Times established this week. This comes just days after Armscor gave details of a R4-billion tender to build six naval patrol boats, prompting doubts over the navy’s ability to maintain its fleet. The new naval shopping list, dubbed Project Biro, is a boon for local shipbuilding companies but a potential disaster for taxpayers who will have to fund maintenance and repairs for years to come. The naval dockyard in Simon’s Town is understaffed and undercapitalised. Andrew Feinstein, an ANC MP who quit when the government curtailed a probe into the arms deal, said: “These revelations come as no surprise. The arms deal has been a monumental waste of money.” The DA’s David Maynier said: “We don’t need another arms deal-like disaster where we acquire vessels we know we cannot operate or maintain.—
Well would you look at that! 3 valours and 2 Heroin subs operational! Well there goes your argument.
Henry120: I can only see thoroughtec Australia. It is an Australian company with an office in S.A.
Can I also claim Shell, Mobil and Elf as been Nigerian, seeing they have offices here, or Streit group?
Then you are blind, their head office is in Durban.
"ThoroughTec’s headquarters and R& D and production facility are in Durban, South Africa, but the company has a global presence with offices in Perth and Brisbane, Australia; Santiago, Chile and Toronto, Canada."
"Simulation for the Future With a military history spanning over 20 years, South African company is the de facto supplier of simulator systems to the South African National Defence Force,"
overhypedsteve: I knew you would bring up this issue of English comprehension. Guess you must have studied English in Harvard. You re the first contributor here to complain about a reply not meant for you. Those words were written in nigerian pidgin. You should expect that cus you re in a nigerian forum. Try chatting in an Indian forum, Mr English comprehension.
Dude stop crying!! f'ck its just a forum, you dont have to take everything so seriously.
overhypedsteve: did i quote you Mr? I did not quote you so you owe me an apology for quoting me and swearing in reply. This you would have to do Or have me regard you as a common, uncultured tout with internet access.
Ill apologize the day you learn basic english comprehension skills.
agaugust: No failed state seats on UN Security council seat, Nigeria seats there, and is top contender for permanent UN elite security council seat.
Failed states don't lead ECOWAS and AU military missions
Failed states don't host World Economic Forum meetings.
Failed states have NO defined political structure. Failed states don't hold fee and fair elections.
Nigeria is just state at war, Somalia is more like a failed state. Nigeria has a central government and it enforces law.
So United Kingdom was a failed state for 27 years because IRA rebels were waging religious war on British home soil? Fool
War experience comes by fighting, Nigeria has that experience that South Africa is craving for and not getting
@Patches has a FAILED BRAIN .
"War experience comes by fighting, Nigeria has that experience that South Africa is craving for and not getting" How retaaarded are you? Why would we be craving for war?
European artillery, and any Impalas (Italy made) and naval boats you may have re-sold.
Also many smaller arms , go check on SIPRI
G6+G5 Artillery=South African Cheetah c,d,e= South African Impala is an extensively modified Aermacchi MB-326 Lastly: Dont now why you brought up the Alouette Topic as i didnt refer to them at all.
AugustineAgain: Nope, learn to read and understand simple English despite being a victim of bottom-low South African educational system.
Your sources say Kondor is the name in Russia, but when Exported it is named Kondor-E....Kondor-Export.
Finally, your own posted Russian source which I quote says it is civilian grade and very small :
Kondor is a series of small civilian radar Earth observation satellites developed by NPO Mashinostroyeniya rocket design bureau for the Russian Defense Ministry and foreign customers"
Sorry dude, SANDF cannot afford cash to buy a military grade satellite, no money for spy satellite. Rainbow nation is broke, $40 billion foreign debt.
Thanks for telling the truth earlier bro, don't try mess it up with a lie. Don't commit sin after you have repented .
READ the quote again mate!!! it states:"Kondor is a series of small civilian radar Earth observation satellites developed by NPO Mashinostroyeniya rocket design bureau for the Russian Defense Ministry and foreign customers"
AugustineAgain: South African military bought an ordinary small sized CIVILIAN satellite, according to your own sources quoted by you from Russia.
You posted the source and it clearly says :
"Kondor is a series of small civilian radar Earth observation satellites developed by NPO Mashinostroyeniya rocket design bureau for the Russian Defense Ministry and foreign customers"
You are the nincompoop who gets assasinated his own sources.
Sh.oot yourself or sh.oot your source....I am okay with any of the two options .
"Kondor is a series of small civilian radar Earth observation satellites developed by NPO Mashinostroyeniya rocket design bureau for the Russian Defense Ministry and foreign customers"
"Kondor, GRAU index 14F133, is a series of earth imaging or military reconnaissance satellites developed by NPO Mashinostroyeniya for the Russian Aerospace Defence Forces and export customers."
"It is the first radar imaging satellite to be operated by the Russian military. The first Kondor-E launch is planned in 2014 for South Africa."
Multiple sources prove that the Kondor-E is a military reconnaissance.
Thank you for confessing with your own source that it is NOT a military spy satellite as claimed fraudulently by @Patches and other Soweto thieves. Your own source says :
"Kondor is a series of small civilian radar Earth observation satellites developed by NPO Mashinostroyeniya rocket design bureau for the Russian Defense Ministry and foreign customers"
Thank you for exposing today's fraud committed by @Patches
.
You are one stupd mther fcker arent you, the Konder-E, as the sources prove is a military grade reconnaissance satellite.
"Kondor is a family of light-class earth imaging satellites developed by rocket design bureau NPO Mashinostroyeniya for the Russian Aerospace Defense Forces. Kondor-E is an export version of the satellite."
"Russia’s Strela rocket has made a rare appearance and launched the latest Kondor radar imaging satellite for the South African military"
"The Kondor spacecraft has been developed by NPO Mashinostroyenia (NPO Mash), and is designed to carry either an electro-optical or radar imaging payload. An export version, the Kondor-E, has been developed for other users."
"The satellite on Friday’s launch was purchased by South Africa, following the previous Kondor’s launch for the Russian military."
AugustineAgain: Same way Nigerian Mi-35 helicopter will use your SAS Drakensberg for shooting practice and rocket the 12,000 ton navy ship to meet mammy water at ocean bottom
You are attacking an OPV armed only for patrol, with a helicopter that you want to buy new missiles for and freshly integrate.
Okay, me too I am going to buy Chinese naval HQ-16 anti-aircraft missile and integrate them on NNS Thunder so I will sh.oot down your Super Lynx helicopter 40km away before it can launch any Mokopa 10km away.
AugustineAgain: The video game Nintendo-Like kill ratio is only spoken of by South Africans. The Gripen countries you imagined you killed have not confirmed themselves as casualties. It's all another Seleka type Soweto made propaganda !
Today Christmas 2014, SAAF has NO single qualified Gripen jet pilots....your air force is NOT capable of combat, only flying for Mandela's funeral ceremony...start engine, check fuel, notice its reserve tank as usual, take off, fly 10 minutes to funeral, return to base, land before fuel tank is empty .
NAF cant even defeat, boko harm who have 0 Air capability. SAAF basically destroys the entire M23 with 2 Rooivalk.
The satellite is Russian until proved otherwise. South African defense spokesman said owner of the satellite IS NOT known.... "What we don't know is whether the Kondor-E satellite that launched this morning (Friday) is Defence Intelligence's Kondor-E satellite which was part of Project Flute. To prove that is a challenge" .
It's still RUSSIAN OWNED PROPERTY today, Southies have no satellite and United Nation law will not allow secret sale of military grade satellites, even ordinary radar system sales are compelled to be reported to UN .
stillchris: okay, so boko haram has been flying our F7s for us?
those f7 are more modern than your 1990s gripen
READ my post again, i said you have 2 pilots for your F-7s, and please explain how a 3rd gen F-7 is more advanced than a 4.5 gen Aircraft, and the Gripen c/d entered service in 2002 with the Swedish Air force, thus were do you get your 1990 from?
NaijaPikinGidi: When you know exactly what has been launched from Kazakhstan come back and tell us! Right now you are all a confused bunch if the DA and ANC cannot tell which Russian made satellite has been launched ...
