Our GDP PPP is 1.1 trillion dollars. Purchasing power parity of 70% is old recycled data. The correct data is 40%.
omg you have no idea what ppp is

Still my point stands, it doesn't matter. In PPP the per capita is over 5000 dollars, so how does that make Nigeria also the 4th poorest in Africa as shown in the table? Do the maths, and notice the inconsistencies yourself.
do you know what ppp is?

GeneralDae:
Why I don't discuss poverty data is that Nigerian currency is very down at the moment and even with the inflation, the purchasing power principle still applies majorly. Someone recently did a YouTube video to show food he ordered for 3500 naira in Nigeria (about 7-8 dollars at the black market) and it was a lot compared to what you get in the U.S for thesame price.

To be honest, if we start manufacturing for ourselves more than we do (even with fewer exports) and have way lesser imports, I would have no problem with our currency and wouldn't care so much about so called world poverty data. A poor man (living below 2 dollars a day) in the U.S is most likely homeless or suffering terribly. A poor man in Gombe with 800 naira a day (less than 2 dollars) would not suffer that much. He would be earning about 25,000 naira monthly. He can rent a decent 1 room apartment in Gombe close to the rural areas for less than 100,000 naira a year. Northern Nigeria in some places have more stable power than even Lagos, he can afford many things in the Gombe market, he would not see himself as suffering.

We Africans should get to a stage where we don't measure ourselves completely by Western standards (whether positive or negative). Data Analysis is definitely important and necessary, but how we interpret the data in our own context to make changes that benefits us is what matters.
This is why most African countries went the IMF way in the 1980s and it turned out that for some, it didn't suit their situation.
poverty figures factor in ppp thus the above is irrelevant.

You don't call 58% poverty figures low.
that's our national poverty line.... If we use the international poverty line of $1.90 a day then it's 17% which is 4th lowest in Africa..... Nigeria is @ 70% using the same baseline....

The high rate of unemployment in south Africa, is due to the country's economic stagnation and high inequality. Bad government policies and laziness of the south African youths.
yeah I guess our unemployment is also the reason we have one of the lowest poverty figures in Africa....

When did you conduct your census?

If your census report as of 2011 was 57m. 11yrs with a 1.1% growth can't still give you 57m .

Same case for Kenya... In 2019, our population was 47m, in 2022, it can't be 47m... Maybe 50 or 51m.
my bru it was 51 million in 2011

If you don't believe IMF or our census report(door-to-door count) , then you have an agenda.
The most accurate source should be the census report. And I believe you also agree with that.
I never had a problem with you using the census report, all I stated was that we should be comparing apples with apples, thus using the latest census and the average growth rate of SA our population is 57million

The methodology was wrong but the answer was right.
If you were in a lecture class, you would have only gotten 1 mark - or zero.
Kenya has 51m in 2022.
how was my methodology wrong...please explain grin

Wiki has not updated its list. The same source has only listed 11 skyscrapers from Nairobi.
Yeah exactly and there are already 59 buildings listed on wiki and I know for a fact PWC tower is not listed.

So then we have established Kenya has 18 100m plus buildings and SA has a minimum of 60 most likely more

that's our census total of 2011 times our growth rate wink Now show me where your population growth rate is decreasing by 0.3%

Also must I post sources which show your population @ 54mil and ours @61mil??

It won't happen boy now we're 47 million for us to increase by 13 million in 5 years is impossible
and since we are going by censuses then SAs population is only 57 million in 2022 if we use our 2011 census population times our growth rate

the infrastructure gap is reducing with massive investments in infrastructure...
Your population is higher than Kenya's and it's unlikely kenya will overtake you so stop hiding behind population growth.
It's not.... You should be spending 20% of GDP instead you are spending 9% on infrastructure

2. You will overtake our population in 5 years.... That isn't up for debate but an actual statistical fact

Two things come into play here: A liability ppt and a productive ppt. The former will do more damage to the economy than good, making a population be of disadvantage to the economy.
GDP will grow even with unproductive people.... Its GDP per capita that will suffer..

You're rotating at that angle, while we're reducing year in and year out.
If we reduce 0.2% - 0.3% every year, it means we will catch up with you in 4yrs Max. By then, your population with the 1.3% growth rate will be at 70m while kenya will be playing at 61m with 2.3% -1.3%(2026).
Once we hit 1.3% in 2026, our population will be growing at a parallel line - and catching up will be near impossible.
show me where your growth rate is declining by 0.3% a year.... Please grin grin

Kenya too has had a fair share of mega corruption scandals but it has never staganated for years and years.many African countries are bridging the infrastructure gap so you must accept that
your infrastructure gap is 11% of GDP ours is 0.6%......

Also our GDP growth rate will never reach that of developing countries with high population growth rates like Kenya.... We are aiming for 5%
