The best way to look at it is if a number of teams finish with the same points, they enter into a mini-league table among themselves taking into account the matches they played each other.

Algeria and Mali finished in their group (won by Angola) with 4 points each, and in the only match they played each other, Algeria beat Mali, so Algeria claimed the second place in the group.

Cameroon, Zambia and Mali finished in their group with 4 points so the mini league table will look at the three matches they played each other:

Cameroon 0 Gabon 1
Cameroon 3 Zambia 2
Gabon 1 Zambia 2

             pts  GF GA GD
Zambia 3 4 4 0
Cameroon 3 3 3 0
Gabon 3 2 2 0

The goals scored was the deciding factor.

detopshot:
@everyone: pls who understands how CAF calculated the group D table to make Cameroun go second in the group? i'm lost, cos i think they didn't apply the same calculation in Mali's case

Thank you. My point is that we have an interest in these positive things in each state whether Lagos or Zungeru. The instintive hatred and tribal/religious bashing of edoyard and his gang of "hate hausa, let's divide Nigeria" nutters pollutes this place. It is poignant that he celebrates Lagos but if that division occurs, he could end up with no stake or connection to Lagos. Why would they want him? Short-sighted nutters the lot of them.

Agreed but it makes me cringe and doesn't sit well with all I learnt about the game. You want your defenders to kulu temper sometimes and bring the ball out with composure or distribute effectively.

Be a ball player, it's really simple.

When you whack it away everytime, you only invite more pressure - see how small Mozambique was pressing us for long periods during that match.

Let's not get carried away with Shittu.  I have been watching him for years and though a good disrupter, I despair sometimes with his "anywhere belle face" clearances.

There is not that measured composure to either stroll out with the ball or distribute it effectively.  After all, great teams build from the back.

My brother, you may have to conclude it is the enabling effect of internet anonymity.  I simply don't recognize this intellectual paucity in conversations when I step out with my people in the real world.

Dtribeless:
I have always tried to stay away from this blog but I've always read it from time to time hoping the conversation would get more productive but it hasn't. You young nigerian miinds keep fighting about which tribe is superior and who did what when most of you were not born. The often missed reality is that the problem in Nigeria is not inter-tribal but between the mass and the elites. If you've noticed the elite barely fight over tribal issues except when the want to whip the often less informed masses into a frenzy with economic benefits for them. Until we masses unite across all ethnic lines we woould not be strong enough to fight an elite that is already ahead of us in resources. Take this food for thought and chew it: Despite the northern dominance of power is the regular joe on the street of Kano better off than that on the street of Anambra or Ogun? Let the masses of Nigeria Unite!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you for your observation.  I still do not believe that bogeymen are crossing the Niger to go forment trouble but even if that was the case, poverty and illiteracy makes the targets susceptible to such influences.  Abi, if someone enters our living room with bags of moolah to go and kill our brothers down the road, you & I will rather employ our thinking faculties first .

I share your hope for peace.

monkeyleg:
@JNdupu,

You trully underestimate the true cause of all the wahala. Yes poverty might be part of it, but to suggest that other forces being involved is bogeyman theory, shows your simplistic approach.

This whole problem much be solved peacfully, but there are very big questions to be asked.
PoliticsRe: Jos Crisis Again by JNdupu: 5:40pm On Jan 18, 2010
Omashe o.  But, let me quote directly from your avatar - "The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong".  The slippery slope to such weakness is when you start by dehumanizing others "they are wicked and evil" which makes it easier to lose all emphathy with them.  If you've suffered some personal loss (like I have but that's another story) because of the actions of a few, you need to be strong and not over-generalize.  You might not have the acclaim of the very vocal majority but many people will thank you for that.

Katsumoto:
You noticed? Was I such a one Nigeria apostle?
Lets just say I was pushed over the cliff by various events such as the following
Yaradull and his gang of thieves refusing to handover to Jonathan (not like he deserves it but its what the constitution demands)
That silly Mutallab boy (some friends had a rough experience recently)
The murders in Jos

Those events together with the millions of actions/inactions from yester-years that I have tried to ignore.
PoliticsRe: Jos Crisis Again by JNdupu: 4:37pm On Jan 18, 2010
You really believe this bogeyman Northerner theory? They are everywhere, even formenting trouble in the South?

At least you partially address the issue - the underlying cause of most of these violence is rot and poverty, and illiteracy. When these are addressed, a lot of the violence in the North as well will be reduced. There are sane and level-headed people in the north who can debate the issue of religious intolerance if they find reasonably educated counterparts. In the meantime, the Federal Govt. should protect its citizens in every part of the country and that failing needs to be addressed and not just throw up our hands.

I'll tell you what I am doing, I am investing in NGOs involved in education and creating better life opportunities. A portion of my monthly income is loaned out via kiva.org and my criteria is set to direct these to women ,

More importantly, I am providing an alternative mouthpiece to those who would see our country go down in flames.

Katsumoto:
No one is shouting for civil war; they are only advocating a peaceful separation of the country for varying reasons. Unless you want to be disingenuous, tribal/religious disturbances are more rampant in the North. Even when there are ethnic disturbances in the South it is usually as a result of a clearly orchestrated and devilish implementation of a strategy devised by a politician/soldier from the Northern part of the country.

Southerners are generally had working people and they are tired of being held down by a powerful, minority cabal from the North in collaboration with greedy backside kissing Southerners. As long as Southerners, be they muslim and/or christian, continue to be targeted for extermination by a group of uneducated, unproductive but murderous almajiris, then Southerners, in whatever guise, will continue to advocate for a separate country. Once the cause of rot and poverty is extinguished, ethnic clashes will be a thing of the past in the South.

While we are at it, why do you feel the need to preach to us? Should you not be out there on the streets of the North fighting this Almajiri culture? What are you doing to fight a culture that continues to embarrass you as a person (I say that because you seem like an educated and enlightened person)? What are the educated northerners doing about this often destructive culture? Of course you sit back and watch because the Almajiris do your dirty work. When the time comes to deal with Southerners, you send word to your foot soldiers and all hell is broken loose.

Nigeria can not continue, either, you Northerners buckle up or be ready for disintegration. Either way, change is coming.

My bad, it was Ijaws/Itsekeris

http://www.unhcr.org/refworld/topic,463af2212,469f2ea52,3ae6ac1748,0.html

Apologies but I don't want to emphasize too much on this one case. It is instructive that ethnic or political violence permeates all parts of Nigeria often pitching village against village. My point is that the underlying cause is not necessarily religion and you do not advocate the painful separation of a country because of that. Even if it was, what do you do with all the Christians in the "excised" North or the Muslims in the South?

The underlying problems are deeper than that and we need to approach them as one nation. There are a lot of uneducated people being exploited by vested interests and smart politicians.

No different from you lot, shouting for Civil war when you are safely ensconced behind your keyboard expecting others to plant the ogbunigwe and take the bullets.

However, the commissioner insisted, “The issue of visa is not a right but a diplomatic privilege. Every country, including Nigeria decides who comes into the country at what time, may be the US is regulating the number of entries into its country, probably worldwide or even controlling the population for the expo we were going to attend. Millions of Nigerians are probably denied visa on daily basis to many countries, while millions are also granted visa. Its just a normal procedure.”

SportsRe: Nigeria Vs Benin At Nations Cup: 1 - 0 by JNdupu: 2:36am On Jan 17, 2010
I agree with most of your ratings but I also agree Obasi deserves slightly higher rating even though I was disappointed as well  (I introduced my young son to the joys and pain of watching the SE today and the first thing he asked was "Oya, Dad, this Super Eagle sef, who is the best player?".  I said "watch out for Obasi or Osaze"wink.

And why so high for Uche?  He was anonymous and deserves a zero rating.  When the ball breaks forward in the attack, he was nowhere to be found.  He should be dropped immediately.

Yusuf is still a liability defensively but I agree his performance improved because his contribution going forward but it is just a shame Osaze (he must be carrying an injury because he faded out quickly today) and Obasi did not build enough with the additional width that created.

Amodu is trying to shoehorn as many big names as possible into the team which is why he is playing too many defensive midfielders.  Unfortunately both of them are playing woefully.  Etuhu offers nothing creatively and he is easily bypassed by skillful opponents while Mikel is really too negative and lackadaisical for positive African football.  It transmits across the whole team and is easily regarded as laziness, I mean, why bother running into good positions when the main ball distributor has to shake yansh before thinking of what to do with the ball?

I can't believe the man has taken these players through several qualification rounds, competitions, friendlies and training and still does not know his best team.  They are playing like strangers.

Iyineda:
So what now? You're going to teach me how to appreciate a game of football? You probably think I'm one of those who only follow the games because of a bandwagon mentality. Dude, I've played football at club level in France for several years. Obasi sucked in this match. Period.

You gave me some examples where he didn't do too bad, but those were overshadowed by the relentless back passing attitude of his in the 2nd half. He stopped pressing forward after the Yak converted the penalty. He did like most players, but I was expecting much more from him given his display against Egypt.

He is one of the few on our current squad (with Osaze and Mikel) that I have high regard for. So, yeah, he disappointed me the most. My judgement wasn't hasty. That's how I still feel.
I just want Amodu to change his tactics and try a 4-4-2 formation because it's like the 4-3-3 burns our cards in attack and breaches our midfield.

PoliticsRe: Do We Have Mental Issues? by JNdupu: 6:35pm On Jan 15, 2010
Hey Beejaei, this is not confined to NL.  Whenever people have relative anonymity, it brings out the worst and they often say thngs they would not say if they were in the same room with people they are deriding or if they were confronted with the consequences of their cheerleading.  In the run-up to the invasion of Iraq, you would have seen a noticeable lack of humanity in the neocon "keyboard" warriors as they got excited by their oncoming war.  Even today, go to certain websites and shake your head at people stereotyping black people, typing insults and blaming the poor people of Haiti for their current tragedy.

You need a mental filter to get at the good stuff on the internet.  Don't sweat it.

SportsRe: African Nations Cup: Egypt Vs Nigeria - (3-1) by JNdupu: 9:56pm On Jan 12, 2010
Good analysis Lastpage, you have a football brain.

To add, I think we lacked width although the right winger, obinna or whatever was dangerous.  His final ball should be better.  On the other side, I would push Taiwo forward (his defensive lapses are costing too much) and find a good full-back from the lower divisions with more discipline.

I will play Osaze just off the main striker which should be Nsofor not Yak or Uche - too immobile and easily defended against.

Defensively, Nwaneri and Yusuf are liabilities.  how did we end up with them?
PoliticsRe: Meet Hon Patrick Obahiagbon. .get ready to laugh out loud. . by JNdupu: 9:56am On Jan 12, 2010
The decline in our grammer teaching may be highlighted here.  Up to a certain point in the evolution of our nation, grammer teaching was based not solely on reading but also on practical demonstrations of debate and comprehension.  Moreover, people graduated into relatively well-educated circles where grammer practice naturally continued.  Think of our early politicians, civil servants, lawyers, writers and educators.   Sometime in the 70's, things began to change as the emphasis was to shoehorn as many people as possible into a decaying system.

No doubt, this man has had to do a lot of work to pull himself up the literary ladder but a lot of it appears to have been self-taught through reading books or other materials.  There is a very different presentation when you actually have to speak about things and most of our politicians lack that skill.

Or, he is cleverer than all of us and realized early on that the way you command attention in Nigeria (and get elected, showcased on TV, interviewed etc) is by putting on such a bombastic front.

Or, he is overcompensating for an undetected mental condition.
