Politics / Re: Minister, Aregbesola Disagree Over FG’s Fertiliser Policy by Jobos(m): 4:53pm On Sep 05, 2013
Iolo:

Nice point...but Aregbesola's policy besides my view that it won't be sustained beyond his government, his policy runs the risk of inflating prices in the Egg market. Governments contracts are structured such that the seller will sell his goods at a higher price....so why would they now sell to the masses at a lower price when they can as well sell to the Osun government for better gains. If you're thinking that there would be enough eggs to supply government and still meet demand through the normal market channels...ask yourself what would happen when the 300,000 eggs Osun government buys stops...supply would become increased and the growers would suffer as prices would fall even further or worse still, their eggs would go to waste, and they'd have to cut down on production by laying off personnel thus defeating the original intended purpose of the scheme in the first place.

I feel the better policy is assisting the growers with a better environment, rather than forcing demand that would disappear someday.
Your theory is correct but whAt Aregbesola govt is doing is selection of unemployed youth, training them in Agric production (poultry, fishry and other farming),provide loan to them as capital, also create market by buying for and store further sales.

It will not cause inflation may that is the reason why APC(ACN ) source for candidate to continue those programes .

berem: Who is in charge of the fertilizer distribution? Federal Government might not be necessarily blamed for the fertilizer not reaching the farmers. The Ministry of Agriculture should create an agency which will have branches across all local governments. The agency should be in charge of distributing fertilizers directly to the farmers. If this is not done, farmers will continue to complain of fertilizers not reaching them.
The new distribution system by Agric minister is good, infact some Africa Countries came to study same.

But osun state policies on Agric is effectIve and benefting to mass and unemployed youth.

Osun state experience on fertiliser distribution was political, most non-PDP states experienced same.

Finally federal govt should only make policies but leave the implimentation for states. Also the budget for Agric be Shared on state alLocation.
Politics / Re: Population Statistics Of Lagos British Colony In 1891 by Jobos(m): 1:10pm On Sep 02, 2013
omonnakoda:
No this is not true. The Colony of Lagos refers to Lagos Island,Ikoyi Victoria Island up to Ebute Metta. In fact it does not cover the whole of Lagos State as we know it today.
I suggest you read this ;
http://libsysdigi.library.illinois.edu/ilharvest/Africana/Books2011-05/3064634/3064634_1898_lagos/3064634_1898_lagos_opt.pdf

e.g There are significant parts of Lagos State today e.g Epe.Ikorodu that were and still are Ijebu territory. These were part of the Western Region after independence, added to Lagos State in 1967 and were never part of the FEDERAL CAPITAL.
The British produced annual reports on THE COLONY OF LAGOS such as this one in `1898 but I do not have time now to paste images of the report.Any one who has time can help us or even create a thread.
After establishing the Colony of Lagos in 1861 the British sought to trade with the rest of Yorubaland but faced obstruction from the Ijebus and eventually subdued them militarily in 1892 as they did with other parts of the interior
.These were generally referred to as the "Protectorate of the Western Province" and then The Colony and Protectorate of Western Province . Ilaro e.g was subdued in 1893,Ilorin in 1897 etc.

The Colony of Lagos came about by an entirely different Treaty agreement to that with other places in Yorubaland(Protectorate}

If the British had not conquered the Ijebus in 1891 I do not see how an 1891 Census could be referring to SW Nigeria

Politics / Re: Lagos Labels Spare-Parts Dealers Security Threat by Jobos(m): 7:52pm On Aug 22, 2013
luvinhubby: Some of us do not read articles before commenting.
The person talking is the P/S in charge of MVAA, which is an agency that collects N25,000per dealer tax annualy from auto parts dealers in Lagos which ASPAMDA people have refused to pay insisting that they are tenants of federal govt., concessioning or not.
The issue is not about security, it is about not being able extort excess tax from the biggest auto parts market in Africa monopolised by Igbos.
Any human being working or doing business in any state pay taxes to the state include federal civil servants apart from excluded activity.
So it is not extortion. They pay more than in foreign lands. Cooperation is the language.

Politics / Re: Aderonke Kale - Female Two-Star General In The Nigerian Armed Forces by Jobos(m): 12:24pm On Aug 17, 2013
DerideGull: I stopped reading the original crap when stumbled onto the phrases such as “the first in Nigeria and first in Africa”. I guess such endeavor is very silly and uneducated arrogation of err of personality which is very common among certain ethnic group in Nigeria.

According the posted junk, the picture depicts a naval officer with the rank of Rear Admiral not a Major General. Thank goodness the lady was not the first female medical doctor who had enlisted into Nigerian armed forces. There were female medical doctors in Nigerian Armed Forces who even attained the rank of Major as far back as 1966. Barring unforeseen circumstances, such ladies would have made the rank of general before the indicated individual even enlisted.

No doubt it came from a person who thought prime minister was a Head of State in Nigeria.
Simply give honour to those that deserve it. Those women you left as major for any reason, Maj.Gen. Would have gone beyond that if not for the circumstances that pull her out. I know her person 'cos my sisiter worked with her as Col. In Army hospital yaba. They were both retiredd at that time along others.
Let's accord them their honour.

Onlytruth: With this clearly self serving opinion on a very testy, dangerous, and heated political issue, Ngige has single handedly destroyed his political legacy and relevance in Anambra state. This is the exact type of situations that tests leadership and political skills of politicians. If this did not happen, we Anambrarians would still be debating whether Ngige is capable of standing with us the people in CRITICAL hours. The jury is still out concerning his achievement at the senate so far.

I believe it was Dr Martin Luther King Jr. who said that the true test of a man's character is known not in easy and smooth times, but in difficulties and controversies (I am paraphrasing here). How would we have known what Ngige would or would not do for us, even if his own interests are at stake? He may have spoken "the truth" here, but that is besides the point. He will know how "truthful" he has been at the polls in November.

If care is not taken, he will not only lose the guber polls in November, but the polls for the senatorial seat he is currently occupying when that comes up in 2015.
Who needs a lame duck and a turn coat as a representative?
Definitely not Anambra state.

My humble 2 cents.

I am a CORE Igbo man, I do not live in Lagos, I have no personal stake in it, I will never invest a dime in Lagos. I am establishing myself economically in the USA which is where I live and work - 6 fig salary. I am repatriating some of my savings to Alaigbo, investing in landed property and in agro-based investments. I also have shares in 10 of Nigeria's best banks. But company shares are liquid assets that I intend to sell off even from here; so although the bank h/qs may be based in Lagos, it is of no relevance to me. However, I have a close relative who lives in Lagos, owns his residence and has two other houses he is renting to Yorubas. He is a Manger in Nestle PLC (Multinational) Agbara. I have alerted him to what is happening, in case he is oblivious. He has ears and I hope he will do what is right. There is a NESTLE branch in Aba, he could wangle his way back there.

In this thread and others, we have established that Igbos in Lagos have the demographic and economic strength they can leverage to achieve set objectives. If they fail to utilize it, it is their cup of tea. If they fail to repatriate some of their investments in Lagos to Alaigbo, it is their problem. I have ears and I am smart to hear with it. I was born way, way after the war, but I have come to know of the abandoned property saga. It ain't gonna happen to me. I am a strong proponent of Igbos developing their land.
Good decision , tell your brothers to go and develop ur state.

LBT: stop posting figures you can substantiate, why not cute other tribes investment rather than that of igbos alone! You said the yorubas lost more in jos than any other tribe which mean they have huge investments but they don't make noise about it likewise the hausas; the igbo. Like making noise and they practise tribalism more than any other tribe in Nigeria; this is what affecting their chances of becoming president in this country because another civil war will be fought. If the igbo continue like this and one of them becomes president.
Are igbo the major ones that patronize igbos businesses? No! So why all these unnecessary comments? If they thing they can hold their own let them all move east and let us see who will suffer.

thegoodjoehunt: Coach Keshi has been a genius so far. I wonder why he is being criticized for fixing a mess created by past leaders of Nigerian football. He selected the team that won the nations cup. He put Omeruo in the central defence and the boy shone like a million stars. Looking like a world class defender. Omeruo marked out Drogba. Think of it.

He changed Mikel's role for the first time in his professional career. Got him looking world class again. Keshi is not scared to drop high profile players if they misbehave. Got our team playing possessive and attacking football. I don't think Keshi has a problem with Osaze but he is past his prime. We need our young strikers learning their craft at the highest grounds. That is what he did at the confeds. If Keshi trust the strikers, we should trust him because he has brought us this far.
Guys, a leader that aspire to be successful should not see critizism as condemnation. For goodness sake not this team should be presented before world best teams, this was not the Afcon team but more of team2. Let him invite more attackers and scorers, if not for any reason but injury .

The ND militants wanted attention to their region and they felt kidnapping expatriates, killing security personnel, engaging in oil bunkering and pipeline vandalization will get them what they want from the government likeise the boko harams felt attacking southerners will get them what they want.will you also have this kind of opinion if the militants had conducted violence against the northerner then ?
The activities of ND militants never include direct or delibrate killing of civilian with suicide bomb or raiding but maybe during shooting engagemnt with JTF. BH are killers that must face law .
