This is the best time for Zinny to be drafted into Midfield. Not like it's been ages he's been playing there.

So now, it's been confirmed that Tomi is our starting Lb. I don't even know who might unlock that defence in midfield aside Rice.

If our front 3 is shackled down, then our creativity is automatically locked. Same thing that happened against Newcastle.

Arteta is obsessed with fullbacks inverting and will never think outside the box. Tomi is expected to invert into the middle from the LB to support the midfielders. I like your suggestion if we replace Kai with Zinny with or without Tomi needing to invert.
It really saddens me to see that Zinny is on the bench while we have two players in Jorginho and Havertz in midfield who are short in drive and creativity as a big team.

Arteta needs to think outside the box sometimes. I just dey cry for our Midfield like this.

Zinny is a defensive liability that caused us games last season
The thing is, he might be one of the weakest link In our back 4 but presently I believe he'll be one of the strongest in our Midfield department if deployed there. His creativity is top notch and even though some of us won't agree, Arsenal always get a different feel in attack whenever he plays

Aside Odegaard in that Midfield, I don't see anyone that's better than him in creativity, drive and innovation. And to me, it's not that the difference between him and Odegaard is that vast in terms of creativity.

Arteta should look for a better way to harness him. I don't think bench is the best option for him.

It's just so unfortunate.

Also, I dunno the reason why Odegaard is absent but I just hope it's nothing serious.

I hate to see Zinny on the bench when fit Tbh.
If Arteta sees he's a liability defensively, why not just convert him to Midfield (where Xhaka plays) and just make Tomi/Timber our undisputed Lb.
It's sad to see his drive and creativity seated on the bench.

What was Messi's club achievement in 2014?

My only work is to stop you from downplaying the Uefa cup because a past winner of the award has won the tournament in the same season he won it.

You asked for club achievement, you got it.

No escape anywhere bro. You can't erase that Uefa cup. cheesy cheesy cheesy
Lol.... I'm not downplaying it. It's not a major trophy to be "up-played" to start with.

The only person to win the world best with that scrap trophy is "el phenomenon".
He's a monster and Tbh, it wasn't that Europa that made him won that world best cool

Now club achievements don't matter.

But it mattered when Forlan was exceptional in the WC.

Talking like Forlan scored 10 goals that season
Forlan didn't win the world cup
Forlan didn't win his league
Forlan didn't win UCL

The only thing Forlan did was
Best player in world cup
Then Europa (which isn't weighty).

My basis has always been world cup year and club achievement.

Messi won best player in 2014 World cup, yet didn't win world best

Messi Won same best player in 2022 world cup, then won world best.

What do you think is the difference?

GasAndOilTheory:
Just an opinion. I am thinking about making a thread about it. Does anyone notice irregularities against Africans when it comes to world best player and even media when capturing matches?

Look at the English media when recording and making comments about players, you discover its just media hype and not as if those players are exceptionally good.

My point is this, after all of Mo sallah and being ontop of his game, others from Europe are favored over him.
I know these have been observed too during the period of Snider and Messi was awarded the trophy.
Of recent too the award given to Messi is not just worth it.

Cant we just develop African football and improve our media coverage. This is something we can do
I believe it's your post that's filled with irregularities.

First you cited Salah as an example of Africans been treated unfairly but when you wanted to buttress your point with example, you used two whites (Messi and Sneijder). Who does that?

Secondly, you talk about the award given to Messi as unjust. Someone reading it would think it's Messi that denied an African not knowing It's another White (let's even assume he denied Haaland sef)

3rdly, you talked about England hyping their players but if I ask you how many English players have literally climbed the Football podium for world best since the hype became loud, I'm sure you won't give me a definite answer.

Even the Salah that was given puskas award. Everyone knows that the goal is one of the least best goals among all the nominated goals that year. But of course, you won't know because you're always feeling inferior.

Nobody say you shouldn't develop African football or hype it. But if we want to do it, let's do it because we truly want to develop it and make it enjoyable.

Let us stop hiding under the cloak of inferiority complex and all these racial comment that holds no substance to its claim. It's getting irritating and annoying day by day!!

Same you asking for club achievements in a world cup year for someone who won the golden ball and golden boot.

I brought someone who won same Uefa cup in a year he won the Balon dor and all we get is stories.

Continue. I rest my case
Like I said, that's not a world cup year. If it was, I doubt if he'd have won it. I'm sure he would have done 3 peat if Brazil had won it in 98 and not Zidane (which I believed WC esp that final aided his world best).

R9 was a monster in 96/97. Aside smashing the goal record in la Liga and Barca (something it took years before Messi broke), he won all the trophies Barca participated in aside La Liga (in which Barca finished 2nd) and he was the overall goalscorer in all(supercopa, Copa del Rey, uefa cup). Add his mesmerising skills and dribbles then you'll imagine how he was feared. In Brazil that same year, he won Copa America and confederation cup too.

With the fact that it wasn't a world cup year and nobody reach his back in terms of performances, who do you think FIFA would give?

That's the football threshold I was talking about that he broke.

Something Forlan never did even though he won Europa.

As it 97, I don dey hear R9 name oo. That time, my eyes never even strong for ball.

Meanwhile, I didn't even hear Forlan name in 2010 when my eyes don clear for football well (na just Messi and Cr7 we dey hear) until world cup proper.

The guy was on mad form that season. That was the first time people saw a player and legitimately felt he might threaten Pele. Scoring 34 league goals in a La Liga season was uncommon in the 90s. Only Romario had come close and Hugo Sanchez was the last to surpass that but neither of them added jet-fuelled dazzling dribbles it.

P.S I forgot Maradona. I was talking about attackers.
When I was growing up, the way I was hearing Ronaldo then is just like how people who don't really know ball are hearing Messi and Cr7. Granted, they are good players that time but I believe the standard R9 was setting then was too extraordinary not to behold (just as how Messi and Cr7 did).

He had moved to Barca before he won the award.
He won it for his exploits in the 2nd half of the 1996 (1st half of the 96/97 season. The first 3 months of that season was mad as he and Davor Suker went head to head until he left the Croatian in the dust. Also most of his goals were spectacular rather than ordinary. He was injured for a large chunk of the preceding season in PSV so it was definitely that Barca early season run that got him the 1996 award.

What is his overall impact with the almost 700minutes he's played this season?

Mention one match he was really outstanding that even opponents acknowledge.

Back to back games that he gave top performance

In games he didn't play/was benched, did the team miss his impact for a player of such price?

He's not going to be the 1st or the last. Infact I'll choose a Pepe over him as bad as that guy was before he left.

Your points are well understood. The rubbish they played yesterday was annoying. I mean, they should at least show us they can rise to the occasion when the need arises.

Partey is injured... ESR is injured (minor probably). With what ESR showed us 2 seasons ago, he should be starting not sitting on the bench.

As for that Sheffield match, according to several sites who rated the players, both of them kept things 'simple and basic'. That to me is never enough.
Well, I can't judge ESR now especially knowing who he is.
Remember, ESR have been fit since the start of the season but he wasn't just favoured yet.
If he'd been given the chances Viera and Havertz have been given from last season, I believe he would have been a starter by now.

ESR isn't injury prone, hope you know that.

As for that match ystdy, most of the players are players I no dey really feel.

1. Fact is if I had not mentioned Havertz in my post, you wouldn't have disputed. I still put it to you that during the weekend, none of those players actually did something exceptional. Go and search the player ratings from different sites. Aside that 6 yard assist, ESR did nothing exceptional. We played against a poor Sheffield team so their lapses wouldn't show.

2.You said Havertz was given an unmerited starting shirt, who do you think would have started in his place? We just pack Otus as backups but na Havertz we dey bash.

Infact make Arsenal sell or loan Havertz by January. That's when most will realize the players we all vouch to start ahead of him are flops.

3. I lost count of how many times Vieira should have cross or even shoot yesterday but he rather passed back. Nelson can't even get past his marker.
1. Naahhh, I wasn't even triggered by any Havertz talk when I first quoted you. It was strictly because of ESR and that was why I bolded that post. I was impressed with what I saw from ESR with his drives and forward passes compared to what Havertz gave. But then everyone sees differently I guess

2. If Havertz goes to injury, we have plethora of options to fill that slot and we'll never remember Havertz plays for us.
Rice can play there with Partey Dm. ESR can play there with either Rice/Partey Dm, Trossard can also play there too. I no too gbadu Viera cos he needs to bulk up to really influence game. He's too light weight for my liking.
So No, we aren't packed with Otus in that place as replacements

3. Nelson and Viera are mostly bench players. The expectations from them would not reach the expectation one would expect from a starter.
Like I said, the day Nelson and Viera continue to be starters that's when their bashing will be loud compared to how is it now if they continue dropping underwhelming performances.
At least you were a witness to the day Viera was bashed against Southampton last season
