Spy360: First of all Saka is not a proper winger. At bestbhebis inverted. An inverted winger is a forward. A proper winger is like a midfielder.
That said, I am not against balance. I am simply saying that whatever you do you must accommodate your best players. National team football is not club football where you get all you want. In national team it's what's available so you try to maximise it. That's what makes you a national team coach.
Let me use Scotland as an example. They have two class left backs. In Tierney and Robinson. They have to play both of them. That's why they play a bac three so Tierney plays as a half CB.
Another example is Croatia that just finished playing. They have to clash AM in Kovacic and Modric. They played both of them.
If your best players are two strikers, play a 4-4-2 or 3-5-2. When Mexico had Forlan and Suarez they played both. The only way you can avoid this is if both are GKs. This is exactly my point when people are omitting Foden. How will it be that an Epl best player can't break into England squad? Like not only a Man City starter but current Epl best and league winner. Such player is considered a squad player because of balance? I've never heard of such sha and I doubt the Fa will take it lightly if Southgate does such. It's not easy at all for a coach to bench him, no matter the reason he wants to give. Bellingham winning La liga best player even compounds matter. Southgate should just play him and Bellingham in midfield. Forcing him out on the wings (not even his favorable wing sef) will not do both England and Foden any favor |

TheLequte: All that one na media fight. Abi you no see how everyone in the media is against him. He barely mentions his Carabao trophy until people started attacking him and his tactics in public.
Anyone in that hot seat would be defending themselves and trying to hit back at them. After all, Mourinho defended his 2nd place finish. LVG his fa trophy and even Ole his lack of trophies.
Like I said earlier, the name of the game is winning and if you don’t do that, you won’t have any mouth. To say Arteta don win one small silverware in his last two years of fantastic football, his cred would be higher and any censure would be immediately countered with those achievements. Well, you have valid point here |

If ETH starts winning, most of the “crucify him” crooners here will keep quiet. A lot will change mouth immediately. Some will even say they supported him in the first place even when they were blaming him for pitch texture, VAR decisions, and wind density .
Failure has no friends. True talk But I believe his mouth will be more if he starts winning Epl, UCL together with cups. All these humility wey Dem Klopp and Pep dey do even as winners, him no go do am at all Just Fa and Carabao cup wey him win see bragging even with tepid display: "Ineos knows I'm the right man for the Job after all their searches" "They disrupted my holiday to beg me" "I've not yet accepted the contract. oliverano: Del Bosque is a top coach though and his achievements with Spain wasn't really a miracle. More like a great coach meeting great players.
Pep is better than Bosque and will win something serious with a serious footballing nation if he decides to look at international football.
Pep will not suddenly forget how to coach because it's "international football" lol 😂😂😂
Jod.era you remember this masterclass from Pep and co abi...no vex Yeah, I know Del Bosque is a good coach (he won league with Madrid if I'm not mistaken) but I didn't know him Sabi tiki taka. I used that example to explain that even though him no Sabi tiki taka, Spain was playing it. Hence the reason Spain is playing tiki is not because of coach but because of Barca contingent As for that ojoro match wey you dey show me, na the reason why una dey suffer for UCL now and na 600yrs remain for una to complete the suffering |

Jamiuokolla: This is why I said earlier that for me o, I wouldn't use NT tourney football to rate - it isn't entirely representative of the actual abilities of a coach and even players....
I checked again and saw that Trapatonni - a serial winner previously with Juve, Inter, Bayern etc was the manager in charge of Italy's embarrassment at the 2002 WC
There is a real reason most of these managers "dodge" NT assignment - that job is poisoned chalice!
Let me just put it this way for proper context - I wouldn't judge Pep for failing at Lol... Differing opinions but it's fair enough |

Jamiuokolla: That's the point - such things are not possible with NT football...at least for now.
Like you have just confirmed, they would have to introduce player transfers for NT football, if Pep is to be guaranteed success With National team, he'll access to multiple access of quality players (which is similar to check book). Someone like Wharton and Mainoo might be starting in this England's team alongside Rice if he was the one managing England |

Jamiuokolla: The French team that failed Miserably at the 2002 WC was coached by the same manager that led them to victory at the 2000 Euros - NT football na your mate?
Capello who also failed with England that had prime Lampard, Gerrard, Rooney, Scholes etc was an Average coach? But all these ones are "one offs" Sha. For every example you give, there are tons of average coaches with good teams who excelled. See scolari Brazil for example. Del Bosque of Spain is another one. I doubt that one Sabi tiki taka but because he saw Barca contingent, him come Sabi am tiki taka for Spain by miracle |

Haba
All in a bid to hype pep o
Na these kind things dey make some people to reply with statements that would make it seem Pep is a nobody Alot can happen within a year boss. 2006-2009 is 3 full years Even Manchester City of 2021-2024 is different. With this current crop of players with few additions, Pep will play his game and they won't be trophiless within his normal 3-yr span at least |

Amigoss: He didn't dare to do this in England,The competitiveness of the league and his average first season turned him into a checkbook manager.... While what you said is true but at least he earned the right to be a cheque book manager. The only reason why I cant vouch that will win league is that he won't be a cheque book manager in Spurs. But that won't stop them from being competitive in league and winning one or two cups here and there. With Pep, Spurs won't be trophiless |

Jamiuokolla: That is why I said Pep should handle a NT and we would know how far
Like I stressed earlier, NT job is a completely different kettle of fish and you yourself don agree....
In one breath, you say he doesn't need to implement a pattern. In another breath, you are talking about players assimilating tactics
Which is which?
No be here all of us dey when the Almighty French team (defending champions) with them Henry, Djibril Cisse Trezeguet etc, failed to score a goal at the 2002 WC and finished bottom of a group that had senegal and Denmark?
Who could have thought that the English team with prime scholes, Lampard, Gerard Rooney etc would fail so miserably?
Wetin almighty Italy achieve for France 98 and even Korea Japan 2002?
Are we saying all these teams didn't have players that could assimilate tactics? In NT all you just need as a coach good is blend of quality players, and guts and you're good to go (at least you need to be averagely good). If you're a great coach, even better. All those ones na mostly average coaches (Dem Roy Hodgson dem) |

Jamiuokolla: Is there any historical evidence to support this?
give one example...just one Barca. I know it'll sound ridiculous because of how good Barca was then but prior before he took over Barca, they were down. Almost didn't make the UCL while finishing 4th. Disbanded most of the top tier players while bringing in Dem busquet, pique and co. Xavi and Iniesta were given prominent roles. With that kinda personnel he churned out those results for years(not just one season), then no how he won't do something at Spurs. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Jodera: 12:16pm On Jun 18, 2024 |
daveP: my own is just avoid defeat to teams that have caused maximum pain in the 2 seasons we didn't win league. That's because those losses impacted overall psychology in camp.
Dem Villa Fulham Southampton Newcastle Etc The rest, imo, we will do just fine. By now, he should have a cruel approach to those small frustrating teams and be ready to do what it take whether Var dey for or against. Besides, we need to increase our penalties. They are key. Not the kind Saka did vs Bayern and jeopardize everything but being calculative to make a difference too.
Between 1st half 19 vs 2nd half 19, i think I'll take 1st half this time. Lol, lemme start with the bolded. We don't need either first half or second half oo. For we to win the league we need to be strong on both the first and second halves of 19 games The first time we took second, we were strong 1st half (dropping only 5 points) and weak 2nd half Last season where we took second, we were strong 2nd half (dropping same 5 points) but weak first half. So you see. We need both halves to be strong. Like strong strong. And like you said, we need to dey win against these small teams too. I think they just take turns on frustrating us. From Brighton when we finished 5th to West Ham when we finished 2nd to now Villa. So na all of them we need to catch, reason why I said we need win our first 20 matches. One can only win league and be confident of but slipping when him don gap Pep with like 13points first |

E fit win with super eagles sha, if them implement transfer policy for NT football and hand him £200bn to overhaul the team If pep coach Nigeria with our quality littered everywhere, we'll certainly win nations cup back to back. Jamiuokolla: On the contrary, they somewhat "avoid" NT jobs till their later years because it isn't necessarily "representative" of their capabilities.... the "boring" nature also makes it less appealing
NT tournament football wey be say one loss and two draws and boom - you are out of the group stages of a major competition and would probably have to wait for another 2 or 4 years....during which the manager has already been tagged a failure
Most times, the managers wouldn't even have enough time to instill their desired style of play - shey na the once in 6 months training sessions person like pep go say e wan use implement tiki taka? I believe we're almost saying the same thing cos we both agree it's less appealing and boring compared to club football..... ....but the mistake you're making is you think Pep would stress himself to instill pattern as if he's coaching a club side. I beg to differ cos most national coaches don't instill pattern. All they just need is for a country to have good players who can easily assimilate tactics (due to no time), then set the template and you're good to go. That's why most countries that have golden generation (especially if the set is concentrated on a particular country) will go far even with average coach. Eg Germany golden generation (with Bayern and Dortmund), Spain golden generation (with Barca and Madrid) and presently England Golden generation (reaching finals even with scrap Southgate). E come be oga pata pata Pep wey Sabi template? Make him just hold Spain, this German squad or England squad first, you go know how far |

Isn't it open knowledge that Coaches are generally apprehensive of NT jobs?
This isn't a pep thing - no be everything be agenda bros Only coaches who believe they still have something to offer for a club side will be apprehensive of a NT job. The way MLS and Saudi is to Europe players is the way NT job is to coaches. Most average coaches (or past their prime coach) are the ones that will acknowledge NT jobs. Nothing special there to be honest |
