Spy360: I don't think it is. City usually does their job in the first half. Stopping them means Pep will try to tinker which is something he can't resist. This would lead to tactical errors. Tactical games like this are usually played in the second half.
Good first half for me. Then let's do the job in the second and go home. Same here. |

Game plan is spot on as we seem not to be giving them spaces and hope to get the better chances(on counter) which is what we're doing but lacking clinicality.
Fair game plan for me. Jesus is just over doing, Havertz is playing well but slow in counter. Odegaard have been working his socks off while Jesus is really helping the defence.
Good game from White.
Partey needs to come on if fit and we need to still stay compact |

Shey Arteta dey play chess with his former boss ni? It's very clear. Like I initially said, the club will just release the one that they want to be released to the public And also Arteta pre match press indicates they might all play. Person I might even doubt is Martinelli but I believe he'll play |

What I just know is that it's a down low for Chelsea to draw Burnley after leading twice and both leads came with one Man up Chelsea advantage.
They have no reason conceding two goals against one of the worst attack in the league with one Man advantage |

All those 2-3 seconds wasted before passing the ball around at the back will add up in the possession column.

It is a low down dirty shame. Lol... Make I tell you wetin dey muse me After all these things, Man u still get possession. Possession with extremely low Xg, very low touches in the opposition box and very low shots. We are 1st, but we aren't in top 7 so far this year. Imagine that!!! It means we faced 80% of shots in 1st half of season for us to still be 1st. Lol. Lol, you're wrongly interpreting the stats. When they said "shot faced" and we're first overall (in sky sports), it means that we faced the least shot (232) compared to other 19 teams who have faced more. It didn't mean that our defence has the highest conceded shots oo |

afrodoc2: If England decides not to take Mainoo to the Euros sef i will be happy cos that will keep him fresh for us next season. However, i am okay with him going as a sub not a starter. The hype is getting too crazy and i would prefer to keep him grounded and develop organically rather than forcing him into high pressure situations. Also, Mainoo was not even a regular 6 in the academy and played more as a box to box or in a double pivot (not a solo 6). In a tournament where the margins are slim the vulnerable England defence will be better protected by Rice than by Mainoo. While Rice might play better personally as an 8, the team will be better served if he is played as a 6.
Regarding Foden vs Saka. I am in agreement with you. Saka is obviously the better RW, while Foden is the better CAM. The problem for Foden is that England rarely plays him as CAM because of Bellingham. At the last World Cup he played LW and of course did not hit his Man City heights. Even on the LW Saka will be better because he will be able to get past his man with greater ease. My issue is when both sides start rubbishing the other player in order to prop up their guy. They are both very good players. You made a lot of good points regarding Mainoo tho but part of me just wants him to be a starter cos I really need England to win something (I'm rooting for them) and he brings that completeness. It's amazing to even know he doesn't even play as 6 how much more lone 6 in the academy. Omorr, it means this guy is good. This is where Kalvin Philips would have been very very key while Rice plays the 8 to the fullest but wrong move just spoilt everything. |

Leyqute: Enough tactical flexibility could see Foden play LW+AM with Rice, Jude and Kobbie in midfield. You’d have to support him with a LB that bombs forward a lot since Foden likes to tuck inside. This structure provides width, is stable defensively and also potent offensively.
Since Rashford hasn’t had a great season, dropping him to the bench might make sense. If things don’t work out you can bring on Gordon. Or even Rashford to provide better wing play. The kind of striker Kane is, I doubt Foden will even shine in that left wing for England. Yeah Rashford hasn't had a great season but I'll prefer Gordons to Foden there. Let Foden just drag it out with Bellingham. This one no be Man city were he'll be playing wing with structural play |

BlueRayDick: This is the gospel truth. Foden is one player I really really admire for his versitility across the frontline.
I just do not agree he is better than Saka as a winger. Gbammm! I've not even see any of Arsenal fans that beefs him sef and if there are, they'll be very few. It's just mostly rival fans that's just dragging this Foden and Saka comparison and it started after that treble. Before nobody send such comparison before cos we all know they're special in their own way |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by Jodera: 11:26am On Mar 26, 2024 |
Android17: The same reason France was built around Zidane not Henry when both were playing. KDB is in conversations for being the greatest ever player in EPL history so Foden has to adjust for him. Same way Fabregas was not deployed in midfield when better midfielders like Xavi, Iniesta and Alonso where in the national team.
Same reason Saliba cannot get a shirt for France. Or will Odegaard play 10 for City with KdB? Or will Arteta build his team around Saka vs KDB? You're still buttressing my point. All these examples you gave, they're all spines/core players in their clubs and I mean top clubs. Zidane(Madrid)/Henry(arsenal)— both are core players in top club not just in one season Xavi(Barca)/ Fabregas (arsenal)— both are core players in top club not just in one season And so on. In this England squad, Kane(Tottenham/Bayern), Bellingham (Dortmund/Madrid) and Saka (arsenal) are real core players in their respective clubs. So it's natural for any coach to build his team around any of them. Foden(until this season) wasn't a core player. While it's not his fault due to the presence of Kdb, how do you expect a national team coach to build his team around him? |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by Jodera: 11:11am On Mar 26, 2024 |
afrodoc2: After analysing everything it is clear to me that England are phucked. And mainly because of the manager.
The solution is to ask Bellingham to sacrifice and move to the 8 position while Foden plays 10 and Saka is on the right. This gives England the dynamism and fluidity that they currently lack, although it weakens them a bit defensively.
The main reason I think this is the solution is because Foden and Jude are both better in central areas. The other major reason is that England has no experienced option at the 8 position, so Jude can do a really good job there. His stats might not be like his Madrid stats but he is a better option there than the alternatives.
Outside that midfield lineup, the other logical option is to bench either Foden or Jude. Stylistically I prefer a Foden type of 10 to a Jude type cos I believe Foden’s style brings more cohesive play to the team than Jude’s. If Jude is not scoring I am not sure how useful he is to the team’s patterns of play. However in a team without a cohesive style and requiring individual heroic performances from the players, Jude is the better option.
P.S I have noticed a trend whereby Barca fans slander Jude while Arsenal fans slander Foden (cos of Saka). Agenda can never be defeated. 😄 The thing is that England has a number 6 In Mainoo. I believe if you're good enough, then you're old enough and Mainoo is someone who have a seasoned pro head on his body. He's 18yrs too so it's not as if he's that kinda small boy sef. Mainoo just solved that conundrum. Play Mainoo as 6, Rice at 8(this to me is even his best position) and either Bellingham/Foden at 10(or side 8 in a 433) and England won't suffer both offensively and defensively. Presently, I'll go for Bellingham cos of the kind of striker Kane is but if I want more control and I'll go for Foden but even Bellingham can give me that control I need(as long as it's with Kobbie and Rice), so automatically for me, Foden goes to the bench. He can certainly change game from bench and give something different. As for "slander". I doubt any arsenal fan slander Foden. We acknowledge his qualities and we know he's a very fine player but what we don't agree is that he's better than Saka. I don't even get the comparison sef cos Saka is a Winger while Foden is a Midfielder. There's no way one can tell me Foden on the wings is better than Saka no matter how versatile foden is. Agenda or not, Saka on the wings is better than Foden. The kind of Kicks and double marking Saka receives for the past 3 seasons and he still comes out tops, I doubt Foden experiences that. |

Android say make dem build England around Foden. Why not Man City build around Foden first let's see how good and consistent he is before thinking about England doing so. Any player whom a top country builds around must certainly be a big player in his club. The Saka, Kane and Bellingham are all starters at top club for at least 2 years and they're all spine in their teams but no, England should leave them and build around Foden on a platter. Na so |

First Southgate, now Descamp. The bolded just looks as if he has personal bias with the player. Coaches are known to be diplomatic when answering questions regarding their players (except if the player fvcks up well) but Deschamps have been doing quite the opposite for Saliba and this is not the first time.
