TravelRe: South-African Policeman Tears Nigerian's Passport To Pieces (Pic) by Jodesky(m): 3:50pm On Jun 22, 2012
acidtalk: What in the world is going on with Nairaland Moderators these past months?

Must every post make it to the front page? Most especially very sensitive ones likely to cause National and International unrest?

The Passport in question might have been expired or fake for all we care. Journalism is all about findings.

The poster should have provided the passport number, visa details, name on passport before such story could be confirmed as being true.

We all know the length at which Nigeria could go to travel out of the country through hook or crook means.

If the story is true, Let him report to Nigeria high commision/embassy in South Africa and if he has and nothing concrete has been done then he should forward the information to us here.

Then and only then will we all rise and ask for the recall of the Higher Commisioner in South Africa.

Seun be very careful, yourself and your moderators need to have regular meetings and discussions on how to operate this forum because it appears you all are loosing it by each passing second.

Just a harmless advice.
VERY NONSENSICAL VERBIAGE. Must a passport be torn into pieces even if its expired. What a warped reasoning. Do u have to provide excuses for a passport to be torn or destroyed? I have witnessed an instance in Pretoria airport when an SA Immigration Officer threw a passport across the counter all because the Nigerian in question was considered rude by the officer's imagination. The subservient mentality of a people repressed has turned a number of Nigerians into moronic idiots who are unable to understand their rights when it matters. There is no reason in the world for tampering with a passport of a sovereign country. In case you are still that gullible, the passport is an FGN property and the conduct of that officer is a slap on the face of Nigerian govt. Why not for a second put yourself in the shoes of the affected citizen instead of rushing to the press with your gibberish. The act is primitive, brash and barbaric. It must be redressed.
PoliticsRe: $3M Bribery: Otedola Submits Evidence To Police by Jodesky(m): 10:30am On Jun 13, 2012
Mr. Globe:
Otedola is a criminal. He has finally soiled his evasive image. Your products are not subsidized and you went on to pay bribe. You paid bribe - an offence in itself.. GEJ, Diezanni Madueke and their cabal has finally used you to try to cover up trillions of looted funds.
As for farouk, am really yet to understand your triple mouths sha
Real warped reasoning. Otedola said the SSS provided the money yet you are saying he paid bribe. Do you want his story translated to your local dialect?
AutosRe: Very Clean 09 Registered Honda CRV @1.7m now by Jodesky(m): 6:51pm On Jun 11, 2012
Guys should appreciate the sincerity displayed by the poster here. And an allowance has been made in the pricing to cushion the burden of repair expenses. What exactly is now the issue. Do people want the car for FREE?
If you are not interested, then move on to other posts. There's nothing to suggest a scam in this ad in my opinion.

bloodless:
threads like this to me is why moderators exist, selling what looks like a 2001 S500 for $8000 in nigeria! and when a customer asks for simple requests results in insults,
I can't fathom any insult here. A serious buyer should be capable enough to put a call to the Seller, pronto! And the pricing doesn't appear outragreous except that guys will always complain no matter the price tag.

hahahah woah , so when i get there i just show up ask and just follow along tisk tisk hmm okay , i wanna know how much will they charge me since i have a American accent lol

thanks though shocked wink
I believe you have relations in Nigeria and you are coming down personally. Let your relation or acquaintance commence the process for you up to the point of scanning your picture. At that stage, you won't have much to say and your accent will not serve any negative purpose any longer by then.

Best of luck.
Car TalkRe: Nigerian Driver's License by Jodesky(m): 9:57am On Jan 19, 2012
The issuance of Drivers License in Nigeria has become a little complicated and as a matter of fact, you need to be physically present for scanning of your photograph at the Federal Road Safety (FRSC) Office of your choice. Beyond this, the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) must attest that you have passed a driving Test carried out by an approved Driving School. This is a mirage though but its a way for making money for the VIO.

For a fresh Applicant (who had no previous Drivers licence), the VIO will collect up to N3000.00 (N1,500 for holders of the old licence) from you to certify that you passed a driving test. You will also pay about 7,000.00 at the Federal Road Safety Office (FRSC) for the licence which brings your total exposure to N10,000.00.

If you give them N10,000 (about USD 63.00 ) at the FRSC, they will arrange the VIO bit for you and within 3 to 4 days, they will call you for scanning. Upon scanning your picture, you will be given a temporary license valid for 3 months. Its a piece of paper though. Your laminated license will be issued before the end of the 3 month period. I applied for mine (in Abuja) in October and got the original licence in December.

Pls be advised that this practice now applies nationwide (since September 2011), so it will be futile to embark on any unnecessary voyage to some obscure locations as the FRSC is present in every state in Nigeria and its the sole authority in charge of issuance of licenses, at the moment in Nigeria.
Car TalkRe: The Journey With My Peugeot 605 V6 On Abuja - Enugu Highway On 30/12/2011 by Jodesky(m): 3:57pm On Jan 18, 2012
Does anyone recall the 'plunger' in the steering column. The smoothness of the turning of the steering depends largely on the looseness or tightness of the plunger and I mastered it to the extent that the mechanics became my foes. I then started making some little dough from effecting minor repairs on my own like turning the contact set to get the desired gap and achieve ignition. Or raising or reducing the ignition level. All I prayed then was for Dad to tell me to take the car to the mech for such minor faults. I wld just go to a corner and fiddle with some of the components and with a responsive car like the 04, I mostimes succeded in making money.

Then you can adjust the accelerator cable to achieve desired softness and speed. Can just go on and on.

AutosHelp! Auto Gear For 2005 Toyota Sienna Needed by Jodesky(op): 9:25am On Apr 04, 2011
N/Landers,

My 2005 Toyota Sienna (AWD) suddenly went gaga with the Gear giving up under two months. I need an Auto- Gear specialist who can handle the replacement at reasonable costs. I understand its a 13-Pin gear (whatever that means). I need to be sure its going to work when the new gear is bought, as the consensus is that the gear cannot be repaired.

Pls come up with suggestions on the way forward.

Can call back if you leave your numbers.

PhonesRe: The Cheapest Network To Call Now Is Etisalat by Jodesky(m): 6:53pm On Jan 24, 2011
[
ifeci:
The calculation for the cheapest network today in Nigeria goes like this
Based on #100 air time
Etisalat = 100-20 = 80.
80/15 = 5.3 min on all Ntwk

Airtel 100-36 = 64 +1min
64/12 = 6.3min on all Ntwk

MTN 100-30 = 70+ 1min
70/15 = 5.6mins on MTN Ntwk alone

GLO 100/15 = 6.7mins on All Ntwrk

Based on this, Glo is the best and closely follwed by AIrtel, then Etisalat

This calculation is utter disorder. the first minute on both MTN and Airtel cannot be treated as access charge.

For Airtel - First Minute is N36.00 while subsequent calls are charged at N12. Thus the access charge is 36 - 12 which is N18. anyone calling longer than 5 minutes a day has no business using any line other than Airtel.

For 6 minutes
Etisalat costs N20 + (15 x 6 mins) 72 = N92.00
Airtel - N18 + (12 x 6) 72                  =  N90.00
MTN - N15 + (15 x 6) N90                  = N102.00
GLO - N15 x 6                                    = N90.00

Basis -
MTN - First Min is 50k a second which is N30.00 a minute
         subsequent calls @ 25k a second is N15/min. Access charge is 30 - 15 which is  N15.00

Airtel - First Min 60k /sec which is 36.00
Further calls @20k/sec is N12.00/min ; Access charge is N36-12 which is N18.00

It is a matter of choice really but simple law of economics tells us to mitigate our losses. It isnt all the time that people generate money with phone calls. Indeed, people see it as a mark of affluence when they engage in endless calls in public. Arrant nonsense!

From the foregoing, as you step beyond 6 minutes a day, your best deal is Airtel. Flashers can remain on their preferred networks but businessmen who are on prepaid platforms should think Airtel.

lm not calling for a debate on this but as I am a telecom prostitute. I go on any network that gives me lowest rates, there is no reason for undue his sentimentalism. By the time a regular user sums up his tel expenses in a month, you will realise you can buy a good TM Lewin/ Hawes & Curtis shirt.

The thread here is worrisome as it depicts bad financial planning.

My one cent.

I will advice you to go for the toks. instead of bidding for this one. Incase u don't know, serious buyer's just call and make inquiry. two people have actually inspected the and they are both willing to pay 1.1M each. But the owner refused.

Still available.

I doubt if those guys inspected with their eyes open. A Nigeria-used 2001 Avensis for N1.3m? Something is certainly wrong somewhere. Maybe dem wan use the car for ritual.

The Property and Auto sections have been quite busy and credible. I believe the subscribers will still be eager to keep it running.

Does it have to do with scammers? I suggest you take off the 'Dating' bit and keep the others, this might restore some sanity there.
