Politics / After Calling For 50% Sack Of Workers, 2.1 Billion Goes Missing Under Sanusi's W by Joeadamu86: 9:59am On Dec 07, 2012
The governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, was recently in the news calling for the Federal Government to sack 50% of its staff to save money, however, it has just been discovered that under his watch, in the Nigeria Security Printing and Minting Company (NSPMC), rather than save money, 2.1 Billion has vanished when someone or a group of people made away with 1000 notes totaling 2.1 billion!

This necessitated the board of the Nigeria Security Printing and Minting Company to meet, under the chairmanship of Sanusi, to try to unravel the whereabouts of the monies.

As a first step in the process, Ehi Okomoyon, the chief executive of NSPMC has been ordered to proceed on indefinite leave and replaced in acting capacity by one Ahmed Bamali.

The same treatment was meted out to one Emmanuel Bala, who until he was asked to go on leave was head of security at the NSPMC.

It was alleged that strangely there were no CCTVs in place at the NSPMC which contributed to the ease with which the funds disappeared.

The investigation continues and NaijaPundit continues to follow it.

Let's stop this religious war on this platform, military issues should not be politicized, its high time our religious associations and bodies stay off politics and allow the military to do its work, cos as far as i am concern they are overheating the polity and sowing seeds of discords amongst Nigerians.

Politics / Re: Why Terrorists Love Publicity – SSS by Joeadamu86: 9:57am On Dec 04, 2012
Dis Guy: the SSS give them more publicity than anyone else

if they are not announcing the capture of one 'commander' they are telling us they know their sponsors or one of their captives escaped
maybe it's because think the SSS is not working in order to vindicate themselves they have to show results, you know how skeptical we can be in Nigeria...but the the truth still remains that the media has overblown the Boko Haram evil that's just the fact..
Politics / Re: Why Terrorists Love Publicity – SSS by Joeadamu86: 9:51am On Dec 04, 2012
To a very large extend the Nigerian media has also contributed to the Boko Haram crisis by giving them much publicity,if the media had shun the evil group they would have gone back to their shells but u hardly pick a newspaper without the daily giving attention to the Boko haram and this has given them impetus to do more. The Nigerian media must wake up to its responsibilities and channel its attention to something productive other than propagating terror stories to sell its papers.

naijathings: Top Boko Haram everyday. Please.. how many top boko haram have they killed this year? Yet my people will not be safe this christmas when they go to church.
I guess everyone in Boko haram is TOP or they get promoted every week
My brother the commanders plenty oh. And this particular one is one of them,I think we need to be appreciating the JTF for the successes they have been recording so far, inspite of their excesses at times I think they are giving the evil boko haram a run for their money, with this tempo it is obvious that one day the whole sad story will be over.
Politics / Re: Nigeria Secret Police Moves To Censor Media Reports On Terrorism by Joeadamu86: 9:29am On Dec 03, 2012
This is a step in the right direction, going by our press excesses which falls short to journalism standard a situation that is growing worst by the day, everyday our newspapers headlines are al ways negative even feeding terrorists with information,if our media is not properly guided one day they will take us to a point of no return, our press must be closely monitored in order not to divide our country,I don't think this is wrong move.

Politics / Breaking News: JTF Demolishes Boko Haram ‘bomb Factory’ In Zaria by Joeadamu86: 4:10pm On Nov 30, 2012
The Nigeria Army has demolished a suspected Boko Haram bomb factory in Zaria, Kaduna State, recovering many important items.
The Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Kukasheka Usman, who confirmed the action to SaharaReporters and also sent pictures of the recovered items, said that the incident followed a Cordon and Search Operation which it carried out with other security agencies in the Kwanar Shahada, Jushin Chiki area of the city.

He described the bomb factory as a two-bedroom bungalow, and that there were Improvised Explosive Devices in “stage one state of readiness.”
The operation also recovered several IED-making components that include:

•    17 Sensor Mechanical Timers (Remote Controls)
•    11 Primed Suicide Bombers Vests
•    36 Primed IEDs in “Bobo” cans
•    One military kitbag with support items like saw, hammer, cello tapes and guns
•    2 gallons of paint containing prepared IEDs
•    2 gallons of turkey oil brand with prepared IEDs
•    7 rolls of wires of various lengths
•    One bag containing several sensors
•    25 nine volt batteries

The spokesman said that a 60-year old man, Umaru Mohammed, was arrested within the premises, and the house demolished.
He did not say why it was essential to demolish the building rather than turn it over to the police for further investigation.

As much as I believe people should be given more than just one chance, I honestly don't see GEJ as standing right now! I initially had very high hopes for him but ended up not voting for him! Now, I am glad I didn't! But if he surprises me today, I will praise him! Sadly, I doubt that will happen when I look at how corruption has become a god we worship under him!

Any, repeat "ANY" anti-corruption crusader who has a pedigree will trounce him in 2015
To be fair to GEJ corruption has been in Nigeria since time immemorial.....

I just wish all of us can be proud of the green white green flag, all these agitations will not take us anywhere, ideally true federalism entails a lot of factors like the control of state resources, state police etc but it's obvious that we haven't gotten to that stage yet.We must cherish our unity in diversity cos it's a very big advantage, all these governors and laws supporting attributes of division must be called to order....

Sincerely the men of the JTF should be commended for the successes they have been recording,if not them the north east would have been captured by now, inspite of their imperfections they are really making the evil Boko haram uncomforatable to the extend that they are pushing for dialogue with the FG,I I just believe that it is a matter of time that Boko Hara will be history...

Politics / Re: Who Is Truly The Goverment? by Joeadamu86: 12:17pm On Nov 27, 2012
ANALIST: I do not share your view on this. This is because the Lincolnian theory of democracy which what informs us to believe that government is people and people government is no longer practical functioning, especially in Nigeria.

A heard a Senoiur lecturer in the prestigious uniport tell his student that politics is all about the allocation of scarce resources. In other words, the essence of politicking, and indeed goernment( which is the act of governing) is to control scarce resources and nothing more.

If this is the case, ( which is the case in Nigeria) there can not be government of all the peolple when the people are even denied of the fundamental right, necessities and infrastructure which the people need.

I think in my humble view, that government is the organisation, allocation and distribution of state resources and implementation policies.

Regards LFL(ANALIST)
agree with you to a very large extend, politics is allocation of resources based on who gets what and how..agreed my concern here is the notion that only a few is the government whereas the people make the govt?
Politics / Who Is Truly The Goverment? by Joeadamu86: 11:58am On Nov 27, 2012
Back in the our secondary days, our Government teacher always tell us that power rest with the people,in an ideal democracy the people choose their leaders and their leaders represent the wishes and aspirations of the people. But sadly, the prolong military era has distorted our orientation about government, many people still government as the coming together of few people to control resources, but the truth of the matter is that, the people are the government we must play our part as good citizens by voting, paying our taxes, etc by so doing we can proudly say that we are the govt,we must also be responsible, patriotic and law abiding..I think we have a greater role than the people in power.

All we want is a secured country where our lives and properties will be guaranteed, but the NPF is making matters worst,i dont think state police will safe the situation cos the governors will politize it,let the NPF be overhauled for greater efficiency that's all.

Foreign Affairs / Corruption In British Paliament. by Joeadamu86: 7:30am On Nov 23, 2012
LONDON (AFP) - British lawmakers were under fire Friday for racking up £1.5 million ($2.4 million, 1.9 million euros) worth of visits to foreign countries in the last two years. paid for by governments, firms and pressure groups.

Some 242 members of parliament have declared “fact-finding missions” and visits worth £6,500 on average, The Independent newspaper said in a front-page report on “the full scale of MPs’ lavish globetrotting”.

Foreign governments, private firms and pressure groups have paid for a swathe of trips to exotic destinations, the daily said.

While 36 visits were made to China and Hong Kong, 23 to India and 34 to the United States, only one MP accepted a trip to Afghanistan and just two were recorded visiting nearby Belgium.

After the trips, several MPs made speeches in parliament supporting the positions of the governments and countries they visited, The Independent said.

One in five backbenchers in Prime Minister David Cameron’s Conservative Party have been taken on trips to Israel and the Palestinian territories since 2010, mostly on visits paid for by pro-Israeli lobbying groups, the newspaper found.

Former foreign secretary David Miliband was the second-highest claiming MP, taking 14 foreign trips costing £47,600 since his brother Ed beat him to the leadership of the opposition Labour Party.

Miliband’s spokesman insisted the visits “are fitted around parliamentary commitments”.

Labour colleague Barry Gardiner topped the list, with £52,071 worth of foreign trips since the May 2010 general election, spending 73 days out of the country.

He has been to both Rio de Janeiro and Cape Town twice, alongside other visits to destinations including New York, Japan and China.

Tamasin Cave of the transparency group Spinwatch, told The Independent: “MPs do need knowledge of other countries but the list of states that feel the need to court politicians includes many with dubious reputations. This is not a new game.

“London-based PR firms have for years laundered the reputations of countries with dreadful human rights records, but MPs should not be drawn into this.

“Let’s hope they spend as much time talking to pro-democracy and opposition groups from those countries.”

In its editorial, The Independent said an MP’s place was in parliament.

“While it is entirely possible that MPs’ views are not affected by any hospitality received, the acceptance of expenses-paid travel can only leave their integrity open to question. Parliament should be protected from such a taint, however unjustified,” it said.

“When it comes to conflicts of interest, perception is all. The impression that MPs might be grasping for “freebies”, or that their partiality can be purchased by perks, is highly damaging whether true or not.”
