Politics / Re: West Africa’s Largest Ship Berths In Lagos November 27 by Joeadamxx(m): 3:23am On Nov 21, 2023
Maybe the "biggest" Ro-Ro to berth in Lagos, but certainly not the biggest to visit Nigerian waters. I am currently loading crude oil offshore Nigeria with a 333m long Very Large Crude Carrier. That is more than 80m longer than "Great Lagos"!

Everyone has different experience about healthcare in Nigeria. But my experience at Doren in 2010 was nothing but miraculous. They went out of their way to give the best medical care despite obvious limitations. Thank you Doren, thank you Dr. Ekong!

If the ship was bound directly for Japan from Nigeria, what then was it doing in Liberian water? Liberia was west of Nigeria. To go to Japan, it should have headed south, rounding the cape to head to Asia. Except if she was planned to go to Europe first, then through the Suez Canal!

Religion / Re: Pastor Adeboye: Some People Laughed At Me When My Son Died by Joeadamxx(m): 11:08am On Aug 14, 2022
It is a shame that anyone should mock another in their grief. Unfortunately, the Nigerian church propagates contrary to the Bible, that bad things only happen to “unbelievers”. I had an experience in 2002 when armed robbers entered my home and dispossessed me of valuables. One of my relatives who is an RCCG adherent likened what happened to the fact that I do not attend “their church and pay tithes!”

Religion / Re: Can First Fruit Offering Get God's Reward,if Given To A Biological Father? by Joeadamxx(m): 11:54pm On Feb 27, 2022
I see a lot of ignorance in the response to this question. The man wants to know if given first fruit to his biological father carries blessings. Some are saying to give to the priest. Was the priest involved in the upbringing, when you were hungry did he feed you, when you were naked, did he clothe you? Your parents are your greatest and surest link to God. Blessing them and taking care of them is the most blessed thing you can ever do.
Family / Re: Please Advice! I’m Having Multiple Issues With My Marriage by Joeadamxx(m): 12:51am On Feb 09, 2022
I am 55 years old and my advice to you will be to not leave for abroad without your family especially your wife. If you are a Christian, remember the story and the uncommon patience of Hosea and Job and pray for God to give you their mindsets. It might get worse when you get abroad where she knows you cannot lay hand on her, but do not let this deter you from being good to her. I have been in a similar situation and I can emphatise with the way you feel. God bless!
Properties / Re: Landlords And Landladies Share Your Experiences With Tenants by Joeadamxx(m): 9:40pm On Sep 25, 2021
One thing most people should note is that, most landlords were once tenants themselves. No one set out to be wicked but circumstances of the matter determines your reaction to some issues;
I am a landlord of a mini-estate comprising 9x2BR and a 3BR flats in Ajah. What I found out is that some agents although claiming to work for you as a landlord are really sympathetic and will ruin you on behalf of tenants if you are not firm and careful. My agent collected 50k per flat as service charge and gave me a bill of 137k per flat for services. As I do not live locally and the contracts were signed behind me, the tenants insists that is what they will pay. I have to pay that for a year and gave them all quit notices, now they are all now managing it themselves and paying directly to the agent and paying 150k per flat!
Also, the most vocal tenants are the ones who always owe rents. They know their rights but not their responsibilities! So many issues that in a good market, I will sell the house and spend the money on other things. The Lagos state law that tenants can owe for up to 6 months also do not help. Tenants now rent with the intent to owe subsequent rents. Most tenants also rent houses they can ill afford, especially all these yahoo boys and single girls depending on Sugar daddies to pay their rents!

Travel / Re: Stowaways Spotted Under A Ship Going To Unknown Destination (Photos) by Joeadamxx(m): 4:39pm On Mar 10, 2021
They are sitting on the rudder which is like sitting on a car wheel pinion. Imagine the ship to be like a car on Nigerian road with all the potholes. so, every time the rudder (wheel) turns, they turn with it. The whole ship moves to the wave of the sea; called pitching back/forth and rolling sideways. With nothing to hold on to, they will fall into the water and if they survive that, they will not survive the cold as the temperature variation between day and night could be more than 10C.

Investment / Re: Fisayo Fosudo: Nigerian Tech Apps That Helped Me Make Money In 2020 by Joeadamxx(m): 7:03am On Jan 25, 2021
My grouse with a lot of Nigerians especially the youth, is the fact they are quick to discount any progress that is not quick enough or requires any bit of mental exercise!
The gentleman says he made $10,000 in a year and some are saying it is misleading because he did not draw out a per minute chart of how he made the money!
He said he invested in cryptos. Have you done the mental exercise of checking the unit price of Bitcoin from the beginning of 2020 and compared it to the price at the end of that year?
He also mentioned he invested in Nigerian and US stocks and still some airheads are questioning the veracity of his claims without doing the simple mental exercise of checking what gains the stock markets made in that year.
I invested about $8000+ in cryptos and US stocks between September 2020 and now and my portfolio is presently in excess of $20,000+. Of course, there will be some dimwits on this forum that will claim it is false but I will give you an indication; I bought shares in a blockchain company with code HIVE for $0.46 and sold 1500 shares for $3.01 each with a profit of $3,960!
But again, maybe I am also lying!!

TV/Movies / Re: Fatal Arrogance: Yakubu Mohammed Ready To Pay To Get His Scenes Removed by Joeadamxx(m): 12:40pm On Sep 19, 2020
The problem with most Southerner Christians is that they do not understand the Northern Muslims or their peculiarities. An intelligent movie producer with no intent at bias would have contracted someone with knowledge of the subject matter before even writing the script talk less of the movie production. If is true that there was a scene where Pete Edochie who was representing a Shi’ite leader was openly drinking alcohol and corvorting with a girl, then I sincerely pray that the movie will not see the light of day if it does, may God help us!

Career / Re: FG Rejects Plans By Multichoice To Sack Nigerian Workers by Joeadamxx(m): 9:15am On Sep 01, 2020
I am not a mounth piece for Multichoice, neither am I a subscriber as I gave up my subscription 4 years ago however, Nigerians should realise that Multichoice is a business, an international business where the owners only purpose is to make and possibly maximise their profit. The Nigerian government and its people should stop vilifying the company when we have no alternative. No Nigerian company can survive our tax and economic pressures placed on Multichoice. First the imposition of 2.5% VAT as its name implied is supposed to be on the consumer, but the Senate came in the gap by refusing a legitimate business to collect from the consumers a tariff the government expects the business to pay on behalf of the consumers; does this even make sense.
Secondly, the dollar has lost 21% of its value! Please realise that most of Multichoice's content are foreign to be paid for in foreign currency from a naira revenue that has lost 21% and they are supposed to make a loss of that amount without passing it unto the consumers? Also, they wanted to reduce staff to be able to cope better and the same government says no?
Nigeria is a big and great market but we should pause and ponder why veritable businesses that thrives elsewhere are leaving our country with no one taking their place; Dunlop, Michelin, Mr. Price, Telkom, Shoprite etc.
Free market should be free or else, the Nigerian government could set up its own Digital TV station and give out its services for free!

Romance / Re: The Lady In My Life, My Burden. by Joeadamxx(m): 6:03am On Jul 29, 2020
You asked for advice from matured minds who are married and/or in a relationship.
I’m above 50 and been married for more than 20 years, so I might feel the criteria;

Question
Is your relationship with this a lady a love relationship or her you only her benefactor?
Are you in a relationship with someone else? Is this young lady serious with her education?
Either way, God has brought you into her life for a reason and do not look at her present despondent situation to stop the good you are doing in her life. As you mentioned, she’s is useful to you as a secretary. If you feel obliged, add to her daily chores to ensure she earns her keep. I do not know you or her, but what you’re doing would not be in vain if you continue. She could have been wayward and unserious with you, but she advices and support you while you were an intern, support her too in her time of need. Either you see it or not, she loves you and desires your growth. Grow her too and one day, you will look back and thank God for bringing her into your life. Shalom!

As usual, some Nigerians cannot stop showing their ignorance of the Nigerian law in the name of being funny, expecting like minded people to hail and support them!
For your information, your first line of complain for personnel assistance in this matter should be your ward Councillor, followed by your LG chairman, then to your state of residence governor before you start going to the Federal government!
It appears as though the believe is that for any inconvenience, the federal government is the ONLY succour! Your states and LG are monthly collecting allocations, ask what they are doing with it!
Politics / Re: Wike Shuts Down Caverton Helicopters For Violation Of Movement Restrictions by Joeadamxx(m): 7:15am On Apr 08, 2020
This is an unnecessary over reach from the governor, except he wishes to state that he is above the Federal government who gave Carverton the waiver to fly for oil export activities which is the main stay of the Rivers state government! He needs to be taught that his jurisdiction as a governor does not enter the airforce base. He could have blocked the entrance from the main road and arrested all who comes and goes into the state road, not go into a federal government establishment to harass a poor pilot only carrying out order after the President has announced that the oil industry is exempt from the lock down!!
Wike need someone to teach him how to behave like a reasonable governor and stop being sentimental and biting the fingers that feeds the whole nation!

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Yes! People Still Get Jobs Without Connection. by Joeadamxx(m): 9:55am On Oct 12, 2015
Compared to most of the Nairalanders here, I'll be probably be considered a old man at 49! But if the above write up is not an advertising gimmick, then it is a pointer to the resourcefulness of the gentleman writer. I find it very distasteful that I get hundred of CVs from young men and women who believes so much in "You must know someone to get a job in Nigeria syndrome" Way back in the mid 80s, I also arrived Lagos fresh faced and hungry for a job. While my friends were given their C.Vs to their Uncles to find them jobs, (Yes! it happened even then) I thronged the breadth and length of Apapa where jobs in my specialization was, I did not get one immediately, but I made an impact for my dogged "never give up attitude" that later ensured that without any Godfather, I was chosen amongst 23 other applicants who in my opinion, were better qualified!
I left my last job 2 years ago to start a business, it did not work out but again, I did not seat around calling on friends in high places (and believe me, I have them!) to help me, but again dust off my c.v. and keep applying while I went back to school to get better certificated. While doing that, I secured another job with one of the top 3 oil majors again, not through any Godfather, but based on my knowledge, hardwork and experience! So, for those who are in the habit of giving uncles their c.vs, keep waiting and getting disillusioned. For the ones ready to take what belongs to them, the sky is your limit! Good luck all!

Sorry sir, but your brain tease is not entirely true.
A day on venus is about 116 earth days and a year is 265 earth day.
Because of its closeness to the sun (as well as mercury) the sun's gravitational pull slows down its spin about its axis, hence its day is longer. Its rotation around the sun however is not affected.

The irresponsibility of a nation. Unemployment at 60.9%, population estimated at 184m, infant mortality at 60/1000, more than 100m earning less than $1.00/day and a former CBN governor who already had 8 children is still taking another wife with a potential for another 4 children! I've read people criticising SR for writing about our government officials. But while some of their write ups are not always 100% correct as in any news media, I belief that by far they are the most credible news portal we have on Nigeria. SR to me is apolitical, as they have writing with the same valour about GEJ and Tinubu, Lamido and Saraki.
So, while we are all entitled to our opinions, I hold up my hand that I am a supporter of SR's mode of journalism. More grease to your elbows guys!!

.....words, words are easy. Actions on the other hand is relative! Give her the silent treatment? Done that, didn't change anything. Tried to leave the house, shell jerk me up, can't remember how many good shirts I've lost! She even put her foot under the car and claimed to family I intentionally drove over her legs! I have been disgraced countless times even outside the house, a most recent experience was outside the mister bigs or tantalizer in Yaba, passerbyes have to come and help me and my children when she insisted she will jump on the road and kill herself. Now, I live in fear for my children only. How can you continue to love someone that continually gives you sorrow?
