Personally, I think pulling him off before half-time is quite harsh. It's not like there are not other examples of behaviors that are not sportsmanlike we see often in football and the EPL. komekn: One of the problems we have here.
We lack appreciation of the norms and values with expected behaviour and etiquette that reflects European football as well as the EPL.
And so behaviour that's seems acceptable in the context of Nigeria is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE here in the UK. |

Essentially what Dessers is saying here is that he doesn't see any chance of him competing with Belgium's current generation of forwards. So I don't actually get it when we use the words, "patriotic pride". The boy knows where has a better opportunity, and he fancies it all the same. charlesemeka85: this boy get sense wella! i am beginning to like him
The Heracles Almelo hotshot has confessed that he never considered playing for Belgium as it would have been impossible to break into Roberto Martinez’s squad.
Dessers earlier revealed his desire to play for Nigeria – his mother’s place of birth – at international level rather than his country of birth Belgium.
That public declaration by the country’s top football body ignited the patriotic pride in the Dutch Eredivisie’s top goalscorer, a player who was named the league’s November Player of the Month after scoring six goals and producing three assists.
“I think it is a huge honour that they (NFF) have contacted me and communicated to the outside world,” Dessers was quoted by Voetbal Belgie to have told TC/Tubantia.
“Belgium has never been a serious option, that’s why I don’t skip between the two countries. The Belgian team has the best generation ever, with top strikers like Lukaku, Batshuayi and Mertens. Boys my own age, who will play as long as I do. I have no illusions. ”
“I’ve never been to Nigeria. My grandfather and grandmother are from (Nigeria), my mother was born in Europe. When I look in the mirror, I see half a Nigerian every day. I also have characteristics of an African.”
Dessers has produced 11 goals and 5 assists in 16 matches for Heracles and will look to add to his tally when Frank Wormuth’s men face off with sixth-placed Utrecht on Sunday. |

Okay who u go replace them with that is close to the world standard? komekn: For the SE to compete on the world stage and be taken seriously will require exceptional quality.
We know the standards required and we have to make comparative analysis with a world quality standard in mind.
These players simply are nowhere near the standard. Although Awaziem is technically astute and intelligent but he has no pace. And Collins has very little end product.
A fullback with no pace is a liability and a full back with no end product is a joker. |

I had to put a bold on that, but could not find gold color to complete the formatting. There is more I would like to say, but you have said enough. safarigirl: You people should stop saying Northerners are not ambitious, just because they don't conform to the Southern definition of it. It is a fallacy of generalisation.
First of all, the North is made up of hundreds of ethnic groups, so, which of them are you talking about exactly? Because I can also say that certain Southerners are not ambitious either.
Secondly, what is your definition of 'ambition?' Ambition varies, and you can only be as ambitious as your situation allows you at certain times.
I greatly disagree with this notion, that Northerners are not ambitious, do not confuse contentedness with lack of ambition. A majority of them are contented with where they have found themselves, and it is enough for them. Not everybody wants to conquer the world and majority of the world's population will not even conquer the world.
It is the ambition of the Southerners that has them committing all sorts of crimes outside Nigeria as well, so, let us not pretend ambition is always positive. A lot of times, ambition can be ugly.
Having lived in the North, I can say that the Northerners have realistic ambitions
PS: You conveniently specified the South West as having ambitious leaders, but you want to lump the North with three zones together |

Well the reasons why will have to be looked into. komekn: Yes among other variables but not the core consideration.
If you are not getting a lot minutes it means there are question marks it is not by any means an advantage. |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 1:37am On Dec 12, 2019 |
I already answered that question in my other post. I think in-form is more of in the present. After Iheanacho's FA Cup games, I was not convinced. but after he displayed similar performances in the EPL again and again, then I had no reason to doubt that he is not only back to his early Man City days but has improved in other areas of his game. komekn: So what happens of he doesn't score for the next 5 matches what will you say.
I disagree, you can't use two games too say a player is now IN-FORM.
We can say he has improved but l would not say he is IN-FORM.
You use the term finally back. Does that mean he has been asleep for over two years. |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 1:30am On Dec 12, 2019 |
@bolded, that's not what I just suggested. I only said that will be part of the discussion. komekn: I don’t know any football analyst that will use the minutes you played determine your quality.
You may not believe me but l know a lot who are backroom staff in EPL clubs. They bring forth the analysis but in actual fact don't make the decision.
Managers, coaches review the stats and data and make a deduction from there. The assumption is that if your limited minutes count the you will get more.
If you don't it's because you didnt use your limited minutes to impact the game. |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 1:09am On Dec 12, 2019 |
Dude repeated a feat.. That alone shows the first was not a fluke. Any honest person who watched Nacho over those two games will know he is finally back and improved. Let's put sentiments aside. Sportilitica: Hmmmm. Why don't we just wait till 10 games to judge. He is rediscovering his lost confidence. Let him continue to achieve before one dip in form now will lead to people insulting the dude. |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 1:06am On Dec 12, 2019 |
I think you are right to some extent. But failing to consider the minutes the player has played is failing to look at all the factors... Even football analysts always brings that to bear when they are evaluating a players performances. They seldom leave that detail out of the discussion. komekn: Stats are indicative but still they can be absolute. The unit not measurement is simply number of goals scored. NUTTIN else.
There is no law that says because a player plays more games he will score more. It's probable but not neccesarily logical a proven theory.
You take your chances and opportunities score and claim the glory.
Bringing minutes into the equation is to confuse matters.
If you score your club will give you more games and minutes. If you don't then the reverse is the case it's simplistic. |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 1:01am On Dec 12, 2019 |
Like i once told you, you can choose your own narrative depending on what side of the fence you want to be. "In-form" can be looked at from different angles. But after a player has repeated a feat, one can rightly conclude, that player is in-form especially if the player has once shown that ability. However, to conclude that the same player is no longer in form, I think that player has to show a loss of form (be unconvincing) over a period of time. So a player can still be said to be in-form even though the player may not be as good as others in terms of consistency etc. komekn: This na person were go school.
Suppose know say a word has meaning from the words and subject surrounding it in other words context.
But unfortunately she doesn't just argument without substance or rational. |

Komekn , oya take that safarigirl: there is no sense in it.
What does it mean for a player to be in form?
Is it by playing games consistently for a long period of time?
No
Being in form, is putting in GOOD PEFORMANCES CONSISTENTLY. Being In form means that when they CALL you today, you will put in good numbers, and if they call you again in TWO weeks, you will still put in good numbers. Being in form, is not about the number of games played, it is the level of impact in a game.
There was a time Smalling was consistently in the Man United line-up and consistently gave woeful performances, will you say he is in form because he has been playing regularly?
I Repeat, there is no sense in what they have been saying, especially as regards Iheanacho. They are talking UTTER NONSENSE, coated in emotive bias and PREJUDICE

you are right. However, the narrative that England cap our players, use and dump, is also filled with half-truths. Modified @ the bolded, i find it hard to single out any moniker here with such expectations. safarigirl: this article is filled with half-truths.
First off, Ebuehi was a victim of injuries, since he was injured, he hasn't really gotten back to full fitness, so, I don't know if this writer out that into consideration when he penned this. It is not because he could be discarded, and considering the team still doesn't have a Right Back of his quality, he cannot state that Ebuehi has been discarded by anyone.
Rohr works with players in form, who are playing games. If golden boy, Kelechi was dropped from AFCON, and didn't play a game for Super Eagles this year, it should give a perspective of the kind of coach Rohr is. If the same Keelchi keeps up this form till March of next year, then surely, he will get a call-up
On the average, the number of FBs that have benefitted from this SE set-up, outnumber those who haven't. As long as you play regularly and you fit into the style of play, Rohr has space, in fact depending on your position, you may not even have to be all that regular, but nobody should expect automatic slots every Super Eagles game just because they have foreign passports. |

this looks like an OGN news.. let me check. modified I was wrong. So what's the source? charlesemeka85: Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr and his employers - the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) may have opened another chapter of contention over player's selection.
NFF president Amaju Pinnick has been making effort to convince Queens Park Rangers midfielder Eberechi Eze to pledge his international allegiance to Nigeria.
While that effort has not yielded a result, Rohr has sighted someone else, a midfielder, who could easily agree to play for the Super Eagles.
His name is Ovie Ejaria, signed to Liverpool, but currently on loan at Reading.
The 22-year-old midfielder who is valued at £1m has shown versatility under Mark Bowen at the Madejski Stadium and Rohr is keen to add the Liverpool player to his squad.
“He’s (Ovie Ejaria) a good player no doubt and I will prefer him in the team now than the player (Eberechi Eze) the Federation are in talks with,” Rohr revealed.
“We will contact him and know what must be done to make him play for us. He is a better player than Eze.
“My fears are if we start chasing him in the media, England may join the race and it could be difficult.”
Pinnick met with Eze in London last month in a bid to lure the 21-year-old to switch allegiance to Nigeria but he requested for the chance to continue to focus on his club career which is going well so far. |
