He revealed that after graduating from secondary school, he played for a couple amateur teams. And after a botched deal, he had another chance before he signed for MFM and has played there 3 seasons. Based on my math i'm estimating he is above 19. we can keep arguing here till tomorrow. I care less if you disagree. Thanks!

very well said. But let's not forget that Etebo could not make the cut in Manu Garba's U20 but made Dream TEam VI.. Siasia always believed in him. while with Warri Wolves he was not necessarily generally seen as one of the best in the league.. Many players on people's lips didn't live up to the hype.. I believe there are rare gems in the league.. But the coach has to know when they see it, even when others don't. Let's be patient with Rohr.

Let's leave these coaches. Coaches know what they are looking for in a player, especially as regards to their playing philosophy.. so far I'm impressed with Rohr. He will definitely look inwards as long he is attending league matches, who are we to say he is intentionally ignoring NPFL players?

The argument is not about talent, it is the fact that they play in an environment that does not support growth. Also, players need to be tested at a higher level to know if they are worth it.

Well, I see your point. But in my opinion, we should demand total commitment from our players.

To me, I would rather go to battle with average players who are willing to give 110% to the cause, rather than going with the so called super stars who can only give you 90% or less.

After Super Eagles handler, Gernot Rohr announced his 25-man squad to prosecute match friendlies involving Senegal and Burkina Faso, there have been grumblings and outcries amongst some ex-Super Eagles players as well as some quarters of the NFF regarding Rohr’s decision to completely ignore domestic league players in his list, save for a few. The said decision has made various football pundits to be of the opinion that the coach may have been compromised in his selection decisions. All of a sudden, news about Rohr’s contractual extension conditions with the NFF made it to some dailies signalling that a faction of the glass house may already be looking forward to the German tactician’s failure. Working in a football environment full of diverse sentiments may not be a familiar terrain of the German, but I suppose he must have done his homework as to how challenging the top job in Nigeria can be. Many managers have failed to succeed here in the past especially because they could not play the required politics in Nigerian football management, or cope with persistent interference from their employers.
Gernot Rohr, on his part, instantly became the bride of Nigerian football, restoring the hope of a footballing nation that have failed in recent times to qualify for literally all recent international competitions – age grade or not. He gained this recognition after he shot Nigeria to the top of the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying group, relegating African powerhouses Cameroon and Algeria to second and third places respectively. Even though the Nigeria senior team did not have the chance to further gel when they missed out of the AFCON in Gabon, the March friendlies put together by the NFF presented Rohr with a chance to get the boys back together after a long break, and possibly test new players for future reinforcement.

A look at Rohr’s 25-man squad selection reveal a dominance of players who were part of the World Cup qualifiers. Even the few unfamiliar names, have long been rumored to be considered for the friendlies. With this in view, there have been lots of bickering as to why Rohr ignored promising talents in the NPFL. In my opinion, I believe it would be prudent to leave him alone so he can do the work for which he’s being paid. There is no doubt that he has got it right so far without our domestic players, so why the distraction? Several debates about this issue have been made in various forums, even in the popular Nigerian forum, Nairaland. Hence, I will state five reasons why Rohr is on the right track, and therefore should not be distracted in our latest bid to cheer up Nigeria at the world stage:

Don't wanna be a tribalist but I must say there is this Igbo ideology I love the most, that is their level of preparedness before thinking of marriage. U get urself, and career on track before venturing into marriage. Musa played with Iheanacho, Ndidi, Success , Chidi Nwakali in 2013 U17. While these players are striving to make giant strides with their careers, Yahaya has gone South. He is still struggling big time to make it with FC Porto's U18s and he has added another burden, in a wife.

Ndidi was just purchased by Leicester city for a record fee.

Chidi Nwakali had a great season with IK Start last season . I read he will b recalled by his parent club (mancity) for the next preseason.

K.A.A Gent put their loss to fellow Jupiler league team, Genk at the Europa Cup by recording a resounding victory over visiting Mechelen. Nigerians locked horns again in this encounter. While Ighodaro Osaguona‘s cameo for the visitors proved futile, Gent’s parade of all five Nigerians in their roaster paid off immensely. All their Nigerian imports started and completed the match, except Rabiu Ibrahim who joined the fray in the 76th minute. Samuel Kalu on his part, has instantly become Gent’s rave of the moment as he scored for the second consecutive time for Eupen. This time it was fellow Nigerian international, Moses Simon who provided a nice assist. Kalu has now scored three goals for Gent since joining them from Trencin of Slovakia. The Nigerian Football Federation will not extend the contract of the Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr if he fails to qualify the team for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.


Rohr’s side are currently leading Group B of Russia 2018 African World Cup qualifying with six points from two games.


The media officer of the Super Eagles Toyin Ibitoye tweeted on Monday: “The mandate given Rohr by his employers is; Get the @NGSuperEagles to the 2018 World Cup in Russia or your contract won’t be extended.”


Nigeria face reigning African champions Cameroon, who are second in the table, in their next game in Uyo in October.


The Super Eagles won their firsr two qualifying matches, beating Zambia 2-1 in Ndola and Algeria 3-1 in Uyo.

Former Super Eagles Goal keeper, Emmanuel Babayaro has branded as disgraceful the 25-man list for the team’s friendlies against Senegal and Burkina Faso due for later this month because only one player from the Nigeria Professional Football League was invited.


The Nigeria Football Federation made the list available on March 1st and the FA’s Technical Department head, Bitrus Bewarang told footballlive.ng that the department only played a supervisory role in the scouting and eventual composition of the list.


Bewarang maintains, though, that the Eagles’ handler had the backing of the FA on his policy direction on the invitation of players based abroad and who also have dual nationalities.


Reacting to the composition March 23rd and 27th friendlies, Babayaro claims several ex-players were boycotting the games as a sign of protest over the non inclusion of more home based players.


He suggested the 63-year-old German tactician had been compromised over his selection of players from obscure ends of Europe at the detriment of a much improved NPFL that also boasts of a recent CNN Football goal of the week award winner.


Babayaro, who won gold with Nigeria at the 1996 Olympic Games, insists the situation is a disgrace and huge let down to the efforts of the players, clubs and League Management Company to ensure the NPFL competes favorably on teh continent.

Players like Egwueke, Uzoenyi, Mba and Obaobona might not have left the Shores of this country if not Keshi's faith in the home based players. Egwueke's performance against South Africa when we went two goals down was amazing. He was virtually the only one in defence.

I have repeatedly said that the challenges Africans face in Europe makes it difficult for accelerated growth. So, judging players by their clubs is not an ideal situation to judge their talents.

That's only tactical. In reality, besides the Goal Keeper, players usually play more than one roles.
I believe Mikel has played as a CB in the past for Chelsea.

We need a complete number 9.. meaning
1. can take on any defender.
2. can convert from slightest chances (poacher).
3. can score from difficult positions (can create goals out of nothing)
At the moment I don't see any Nigerian player that can consistently do the above.

For now I think we can make do of a poacher, until we find that Ideal striker.

My take is this. Some players are exceptional and it doesn't matter if they play at home or abroad. We cannot follow a general trend as regards how home based players do not eventually meet up to group all home based players as not ready to play for Nigeria until they prove themselves in Europe. I like what Rohr is doing. All the coach needs to do is watch NPFL games. A coach will know a star when he sees one irrespective of where the player plays. I think the solution to our defense problem is in the domestic league. Because many of our domestic defenders have not been going to Europe over the years compared to their counterparts in the other departments of play. The likes of Oboabona provided a short term solution. At least that's good enough to help us qualify for the world cup.
