"Why then do some cell phone manufacturers print warnings in their instruction manuals about not using these devices in areas with "potentially explosive atmospheres" such as gas stations? "I can't speak for the manufacturers, but the warnings may be the result of an outdated United Kingdom regulation that was set when wireless phones operated at powers up to 20 watts, as opposed to the typical power of 0.6 watts today," Dr. Grant explained.
