For me, GEJ is to blame for the security problems. Come to think of it, Nigeria's got the best infantry in the world (so i heard), we help neighboring west african countries keep their peace, why cant we keep ours. This BH is not even half as dangerous as the supporter of APC militia of liberia and seriea leone that Nigerian soldiers crushed.

Its abt the commander in chief knowing when and how to command, for crying out loud this BH is rooted in just 1 goddamn state in the north east.

Hw's the purging going to start, when the most senior officers that ocuppy strategic positions are from the north. Ihejirika may be at the helm of affairs but how many sourtherners are GOCs of several divisions scattered across the country? That is where the primary loyalty lies. I dont even think Ihejirika is in charge of the army cos believe u me, in the army, loyalty still lies along ethno-religious lines.

I also think the south did not wake up in time to realise that the military is such a juicy career especially at the rank and file level, look at their pay (@ the rank and file level) and compare it to how much u'll make from ur day to day hustling down south, I bet before now, factory workers down south were earning better than the rank and file. Its unlike the north where there are hardly any means of hustling and a lot of youths see joining the army as an escape route.

I think the entire south needs to start indicating more interest in joining the military even at the lower level cos in times of trouble, the foot soldiers are golden pawns on the chessboard.

If Jonathan dies today, the north will go celebarating, at least sambo will have a shot at the presidency, just the same way the south celebrated while the north mourned when Yar' adua died.

Imagine a litre of PMS going for between 140 to 150 naira, then the price of AGO maybe say arround 230 naira. Imagine how much a litre of kerosine will cost. I strongly believe the masses will soon invent another brand of local stove, this time it may not be called Abacha, maybe Goodluck.

Imagine running a barbing saloon purely on generators as it were, then the cost of shaving will double, then peeps who've got cars may have to park their vehicles, maybe we may have a total reduction in fuel consumption, what will happen to the cost of transportation is better not imagined. In every single way (mentioned and not mentioned), the masses are bound to suffer. Hyper inflation will soon become a common every day name in our vocabulary.

If all this is not of serious concern, how about the real sector which we badly need to develop, it is increasingly becoming more difficult to do business in Naija.

Not that removing subsidy is a bad idea especially considering how much a choosen few benefit from it, but at this time of the day when poverty is at worst abject, I feel certain issues need to be addressed first. We need to get the power sector working so that running small businesses does not entirely depend on fuel. If the private sector is not ready to build refineries, government should build and hand it over to them (afterall, that's the usual practise in Naija)

We also need to tighten up our borders so that smuggling what is subsidised for nigerians will be at a minimal low, then and only then will this subsidy removal thing work. But if it must be now, well, I'm already designing my placard to match to eagle square in protest.

Gowon is an elderstateman, agentle man if u ask my opinion, he'll generally apologise since the war was prosecuted under him. But we will be lying to ourselves if we ever pretend that Gowon regrets the creation he labored hard to keep - Nigeria.

I dont want to delve into the history of the civi lwar but frankly speaking, there's no time ojukwu ever made a good deal with other tribes as to how to share the spoils when the war was over. In warfare as i know, a deal must always be on the table for whoever is going to support b/4 anyof such group can even think of supporting you.

What deal did ojukwu make with the southwest?
what deal did he make with the middle belters, south south who owns the vast resources which were going to be under his control if he'd suceeded.
How could any of these group support his (ojukwu's) war without any concrete deal on the table.

Its not the first time the middlebelt is dissociating it self from the north either, they did that several times even when ojukwu was still alive through diffrent fora more credible than this middlebelt youths.

Sometimes, I also dont understand what the south (east) expected from the middlebelt during the civil war, for crying out loud; Gowon, the president at that time was a middlebelter and with everything so tribalistic in naija right from independence, its only natural that the middle belters fight for a brother who was on the throne then, this is the conviction with which the benue people fought with since Benue (their state) was carved out of Plateau where Gowon came from.

As for these little boys clamoring for liberation, its better you choose another reason for fighting ur course instead of apolgising for what ur fathers did and do not regret doing after all

its true subsidy has to be removed but for me, what's important is the timing more than the removal.
I feel the Government should try to build refineries that will be fully operational to augment for importations before removing subsidy.
Moneys spent on subsidy so far is enough to have gotten us at least 30 refineries and we wont have any need to keep importing and spending so much on subsidy.
