Literature / Reviewing Sweet Sixteen: What Bolaji Abdullahi Got Wrong by Johnakwehblog(m): 7:24pm On May 22, 2019
I can understand that some people do not see the female gender as vessels of intelligence and media of tutelage. To me, this is what Bolaji's Sweet Sixteen portrays.

A certain girl once sat with friends and exclaimed, 'The book is very interesting!' Quite. A lot of other girls like her who are ignorant of the feminine incubus in the present society will share likewise fantasies.

Over the years, women have been relegated to serve only in the kitchen and in the bedroom. Scores and scores of them are thought as dependent and controllable such that a man would never want to see his wife achieve the same Degree certificate with him. Milton would say: 'One tongue is enough for a woman.'

In Bolaji's literary work, only a man is sufficient to banter his daughter with indispensable life-directing tutorials, thus, arming her with an arsenal of thoughts that could change her life, career and destiny for the better. What about Mrs. Bello? Is teaching her daughter how to make tea all that she could proffer? Or is reading Cosmopolitans, which should be adult-rated, the best type of disposition Bolaji can sluice Aunty Molara with? If this means poor characterization, I had thought my latest book would take the award.

Honestly, I diametrically think women, too, have a plethora of advice to give their kids in terms of living better and fulfilling lives. Well, the controversial part is that the editor is a female. Why did she skip that?

Kudos to Bolaji for a first book. I hope to read more of his works.

In Nigeria, survey has it that the 4.3million of the 7million children born every year fail to get fully vaccinated before their first birthday.
To mark World Immunization week, 24th - 30th April, 2018, UNICEF will be a shining mantra on its work to immunize children across the globe.
Now let's consider some spine-tickling facts;
> What age of children should be routinely immunized?
> Are these children routinely immunized?
> What happens when children are not routinely immunized?
Now let's put some answers down.
(1). 9months would suffice. Nevertheless, it's before their first birthday. By now, exposure of the child would be emminent and other obvious and radical developments at that epoch.
(2). The people responsible for making sure that children are routinely immunised might do so to the limit of their abilities. Non-chalantly or meticulously. Houses might be skipped, out of insouciance or laziness. Check that.
(3). Sickness, ailments and other infections that could render the Homeostasis of a human body system deficient in immunity for a while, may be evident. At that epoch, the child's body is defintely not powerful enough to belabour some of these centuries-aged diseases. Thus, puts the child's health at stake and sometimes leaves an indelible mark of illness.
It is with the utmost urgency that i urge parents to take their children for immunisation now. Churches and clinics would be a prime ground for these operation.

Politics / The 'lying Beast' In Alhaji Lai Mohammed by Johnakwehblog(m): 10:59pm On May 06, 2018
Originally published on April 28, 2018. John Akweh's Blog Press.

Yesterday, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Minister Of Information and Culture, was in New York at a meeting with Wall Street Journal and Reuters.
He spoke on Buhari's fight against corruption and also the merits begotten from the Anti-corruption act assault.
This was his first lie for the day. Honestly, i don't see any impact or whatsoever charade the Anti-corruption junta has instigated. Everyday, public servants embezzle funds. Apart from that, isn't modifying a National Security Council to only constitute Hausas and Muslims an indirect act of corruption and obviously Favouritism?
Another Mortal Kombat Challenge for Nigerians.
The next missle fired by the Information and Culture Minister was that Buhari's manifesto promises had been completed.
Where is the impact, Mr. Lai?
But ofcourse, no one would expect a fellow 'country man' to go overseas and say disparaging but true things about his or her own nation.
And that is the problem. If one says the truth, whereas it is bitter, Nigerians will attack. On the flip side, if you told a lie just to save face, Nigerians will crucify you still.
Let's go back memory lane a little. There was a time, during the incessant Boko Haram operations in Borno, that the same Lai Mohammed told Nigerians that the Boko Haram sect has been successfully wiped out, right from his cool living room in Abuja.
Next we heard, Boko Haram mysteriously resurrected and continued their babaric killings.
I wonder how that man got that office in the first place. Has he even visited the IDPs to see how vulnerable and hopeless they are? No, the old grandfather prefers lying.
I know that when he said that Buhari's visit to Donald Trump would favour Nigerians, must surely turn out to be another facade of lies.
Okorocha should build the man a statue!

Politics / The Lies Of President Muhammadu Buhari - Part 1 by Johnakwehblog(m): 10:38pm On May 06, 2018
Before the current President of Nigeria was made a President, he chided the Nigerian government about their handling of the Boko Haram shindig.
He said that, Nigeria should NOT involve mercenaries from other countries to help in the fight against Boko Haram; that we have the manpower and warfare to combat and vanquish the terrorists.
That was that year.
But now that he is President, the old grandfather requires aid from the UN and their brides. The same Boko Haramists that Nigerians believed to be completely belaboured, battered, and beaten black and blue or even killed by Buratai and his flimsy operations, are the same sect members that returned the long-kidnapped Chibok and Dapchi girls. Dia ris God o.
What kind of President is this?
And he goes ahead to say that the youths are lazy. In fact, i have no permanent malice with that statement. Even a layman would know that the old grandfather must have gone insane.
What about the fuel rate? The NORTH sells fuel at N50 per litre. Note that, The NORTH. Isn't this bias? Other states are selling above N150, but din't he promise a N75 litre sale?
Nigerians wanted Change. Buhari has given it to then hard at their own predicament, demerit and unfortunance like a woman being raped.
Just wait and see what that man has in store for us next.

Science/Technology / They Said We Have Over 4000 Planets; The Astronomers'll Soon Discover Hell Fire by Johnakwehblog(m): 7:35am On Apr 05, 2018
According to NASA, we have about 4,000 planets.
Which took twenty years to discover.
Some say Science is God (or vice versa), but are we really alone?
That's the bone-crunching question the NASA is aiming to answer within some months.
Kepler came first in 2009. A project aimed to discover other "exoplanets", as they call it. About 1000 were found as lost planets in the Milky Way. Beats me.
Now, its successor is here. Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite, shortly called TESS, is set to be launched next month with more capabilitier than its predecessor.
According to them, we have planets roaming about the galaxy just waiting to be discovered. And TESS has come to answer the question: Are we really the only planet in surviving mode?
On my side, i would cross my fingers and think about the names of thousands of planets the school kids would have to learn in Geography, come next century or so.
Science is breaking boundaries. Boundaries we never ever anticipated. And our God is watching this breakthrough. Very soon, they'll say that the road to Heaven has been discovered or we just found the gates of Hell. In space.
I said, am going to cross my fingers and anticipate the worst.

Politics / Monkeys Steal Money? They May Know How To Speak ; The Governor Now Rears Snakes by Johnakwehblog(m): 8:09am On Apr 03, 2018
Seun Mynd44 Lalasticlala

It is disgraceful and shameful. Simultaneous degradation of our country Nigeria. The news spread worldwide as fast as a burning bush. Who will clear our name?
Now people will laugh and win bets that corruption is really the bedrock of this country.
Welcome to Nigeria where a Mininister of high-standing will clearly state that about 76million naira was stolen by a lone monkey by God-knows-how-and-where.
Also a Governor would carter away millions and give a silly excuse that he wants to use the money to buy snakes, so that their skins will be used to produce leather for the state. And now, he rears snakes.
This was the same Governor who bought wheelbarrows empower the youths of Benue state. Coincidence?
Let's not forget that the taxes we pay are used to feed these illiterate leaders. And we applaud them when they misbehave. Who are we kidding?
Now, Democracy isn't ruled by the people anymore. This isn't Democracy! This is bondage!
When a friend first told me of the Governer that bought snakes to rear, i began to think of a country that sells snakes!
Is this what our taxes are used for? To take us on a merry-go-round and leave our heads spinning like a ball with no brain to ponder the meaning of their words of deciet, callousness, non-chalant attitude and impish facade?
Where do the monkeys take their money to? Madagascar? The Persian Gulf? Elegushi beach? To enjoy the beach and hear the lapping of salty water upon the seashore and lie out in the sun for a tan and drink Hennesay like a proper human? Surely, these animals should know how to speak then.
Take a stand! That's the ovation. This has gone too far and unless we do something about it, we are doomed.
I said, we are doomed!

Nairaland / General / Why Are Women/girls Drawn Back By The Society? by Johnakwehblog(m): 11:09am On Mar 16, 2018
Read more unique posts @ www.johnakweh.cf

Happy International Women's Day! In March, thousands of world leaders, NGOs & activists meet to discuss how to improve the lives of women and girls. So just like the Girls Guides and Girls Scouts, i'll be sharing some tips on how the lives of women can be improved in our present society.
First, we need to know where the women are affected most. Urban (city) or Rural (town/village/countryside). Okay, i chose the rural areas since it should be our greatest concern.
Next, we talk about the challenge the women and girls face in the rural areas. For me, i say, UNSAFE SPACES AND VIOLENCE. We are not blind to the fact that girls are controlled by violence. From the men especially. And is that not a challenge to their physical, emotional and psychological stability?
So now, if i should meet with parliamentarians to tell then how they can reach out and respond to girls needs and what they should do to serve them better, i'll say, CONSULT THEM WHILE DISCUSSING BILLS/POLICIES THAT AFFECT THEM, YA'LL! The girls should have a say.
Society holds girls and women back and that's why they don't have the same opportunities or access to services as men and boyr. How? Look around you. What do you think the society feels about the future of ladies? Presidents, Governors? Leaders? Pfftttt. The African mentality that women should be confined to the kitchen is still an indelible mark im the minds of some.
Finally, what would be the solution in empowering them? Modern technology for me. Or what do you think?

Now, i've been hearing shit about snake swallowing 36million naira, and monkey swallowing 76million naira, too. Like it's an animal responsibility.
Okay, fine. That's not the issue. The issue is that animals have now developed a trait of swallowing money in Nigeria, no doubt. The let all students refuse to pay fees and workers refuse to pay tax that goat or chicken swallowed their money.

on the reptilian issue, I have nothing to say.. lol.

but if you say all humans have reptilian genetics & are motivated by greed, why then does western Europe, USA & Canada have better systems?

I still humbly submit that its the people who shoulder the burden of producing flawed leaders. for instance, when Gani Fawehimi sort to run for president, how many Nigerians threw their weight behind him? most people didn't take him serious & Gani was one Nigeria we could all agree had a good deal of integrity... at least more than most.

those greedy grandfathers are supported by an army of youths ready to pillage & destroy on behalf of those grandfathers. look at what happened in a state in the north not too long again. Nigeria has been in the throes of fuel scarcity/high prices for the past 4 months, yet some people on the very long fuel queue were hailing the president... is that normal?

in the US, a government worker gave trump the finger to his face & damned whatever repercussions that would arise from that because she believed in her convictions.

in developed countries, prime ministers, ministers, government officials, private sector dons resign over mere allegations & without be forced to do so, simply so that they can 'protect' the integrity of the system.

but in Nigeria, someone will steal billions of dollars & remain in office & you will see youths defending the person as if stealing is an achievement. when such leaders see that people still support them despite their atrocities, why won't they further impoverish the people when they know that they will still be hailed.

look at states that owe months of salaries. the workers are grumbling. can that happen in a developed nation? the government would have collapsed by now due to the massive protests from the citizens. but in Nigeria, the citizens provide justification for such insensitivity even when they are dying of hunger.
Even US and Britain like you mentioned have their own Administrative flaws. But, they are careful and discreet about it, that it dosen't escalate into a controversy and perpetual affair like the Nigerian system.

However, the rest of your comments point to the youths who support these 'greedy grandfathers' in pillaging and looting. Frankly, and not to be too evasive, i don't see them supporting these men. They talk and complain, but it's undoubtedly obvious that their voice is wholly neglected.

leaders are a product of the society from which they come.

since Nigeria got independence in 1960, over 15,000 people have been elected into various offices at all levels of governance during democratic dispensations, can we boldly mention to 10 of those elected people that performed beyond reasonable doubt.

10 people that we can boldly give a 70% pass mark when it comes to upholding the principles of what democracy & administration are all truly about?

I seriously doubt... so a society that cannot produce leaders who can be termed to be heads & shoulders, good performers has an inherent sociopolitical flaw which makes the people always vote in bad leaders.

like I said, for the most part... but I guess the issue it all depends on how we chose to view the challenge.
The administrative posts changes their cognitive reasoning. Have you heard that humans have a reptillian brain? Just a blip of it actually. And you know the characteristics of a reptile? Greed. It always want more even when it it has enough. Compare that to the Nigerian system of Democracy, and see what we've got. Greedy grandfathers, as a female reader of this post put it. That's probably why we don't have honest leaders in our country.
