Military did what? Aside from Gowon who had money from oil windfall the rest took us backwards. Gowon and Murtala/Obasanjo era should pushed us into a first world country but the clowns used our money for useless decolonization efforts of other African countries. Most of you are indomie generation and want to get thing easy. You don't want to work hard for it. You don't want to get involved in the political process and win your country over from the hands of corrupt leaders.

Shagari time as civilian President for only 4 years dwarfed all the military that ruled till Abacha. Imagine a military that ruled and yet, power infrastructure remained the way Balewa left it. We were grappling with 2000 megawatts from Kainji Dam until President Umaru Yar’adua. We had just the Tincan port with no additional one again, the railways was left to rot until Babangida began another carriageway but built with woods as that of the British. The only improvement of Babangida was starting the concrete carriage from Warri to Itakpe which was finally abandoned till Yar’dua. And also the third mainland bridge. Yes, the military built refineries but they also sabotaged it as well. They also built a few roads here and there but there were dwarfed in performance by their civilian.

Nigeria began making economic and infrastructural progress from 1999 till now. That is why anybody wishing for military rule in Nigeria should be caught, castrated and publicly executed. Let him go to hell and enjoy proper military rule with Satan.
You have made your point but your conclusion was rather unnecessary. And from your statement I couldn't pinpoint how the performance of the civilian government dwarfed that of the military government. Colonization was the challenge of that time. Would you also call Fidel Castro a fool for getting involved in the Decolonization efforts in Africa?

Is it not a shame that we are signing away our future on loans? The civilian government experienced oil booms, what was the money used for? Since you mentioned that the infrastructural development achieved during the military government was as a result of the oil boom.

What exactly do you expect from Youths? When the civilian government has weaponized poverty against the people? And your so called generation did absolutely nothing. Tell me how you expect the youths to take back the country through the electoral process? Sowore has learnt the hard way. You don't change a system by working within the same system because at the end the system will make you conform to it.

In as much as we continue with this current system, there is no election that can produce credible leaders. You can take it to the bank.

Oh but Obasanjo did something that helped telecom providers...he allowed them set their prices...and make enough profit.

THis in turn attracted investment...and thus the telecoms sector grew.

Why Nitel did not grow...it was a monopoly, prices were kept low, and as a result, it could not compete with MTN and Econet and the rest.

Infact, the reason why power supply is bad and why NNPC cannot build refineries...price controls. This drives away investment...because no one is going to come and invest and not be allowed to make profits.

MTN, and co were allowed to make their profits...and it is the fruit of the profit that has enabled me to go from spending two hours at a cafe in 2004 on slow internet connections to fast interent anywhere today.
But we can't keep advocating for private acquisition of critical infrastructure. That's what fuels poverty. America that is propagating the idea of capitalism has safety nets for its citizens like food stamps, unemployment benefits and the rest. We have none and we are pushing for private individuals that don't care about anything than making profit to take over everything. Not that we have institutions that is capable of protecting the interest of the masses.

Private acquisition of wealth causes mass poverty.

Yes, the Army built a lot of infrastructure...in the 1970's when we had money from oil boom one.

Once the oil prices crashed in the year 1982...so also went the money for infrastructure.

Plus, this internet, telecoms infrastructure we use was built under a civilian admin.

And the Army, by the way wrecked the railways. It is the civilains that are rebuilding it now.
Boss abeg no mention telecoms. Those guys paid through their nose and to recoup their investments Nigerians paid heavily. We all know their licence fees was looted. The government at the time never used it to create an enabling environment for telecoms operators. The military would surely had done better

Most of the core infrastructure was actually done under the military with less resources. But see what we have today? Common blue line has taken Lagos about 12 years with the inflated budget. Same story of project abandonment in every region.

Ok

In politics no permanent enemies but permanent interest.

Many will think that the oba of benin is an enemy to Oshiomhole and APC. He is a father figured and not supposed to be involved in politics. He accept all.

Majority of the people in nairaland hate APC and Oshiomhole. These do not reflect the views of the people of Edo state.

We in Edo know that obasike has not done much when compared with the comrade governor.

The reason could be because of the distraction with in the period but it is not an excuse for not delivering on his promises.

I wish he listened to Oshiomhole. The comrade governor is expirence and meant well for him.

You can hate Tinubu but you can not deny the continuous progress in Lagos State about the best in Nigeria because the governor's know that they are accountable to the people and Tinubu.
Please what progress is in Lagos? Is it good roads? Efficient transportation system or housing? Common blue line project has taken more than 10years and it's not near completion even at an outrageous price. The fourth wealthiest city in Africa can't boast any of the aforementioned infrastructure

BusinessRe: Are You Interested In Yam Business From North? by Johnrake69: 11:48am On Aug 03, 2020
isaacoco1:
I'm not arguing with you either, I stated my points to answers your questions raise earlier... That you had a bad day doing a business does not mean others will... if you don't know how the biz works, you ask people doing it!

As regard me selling Yam, I'm not selling Yam to final consumers (or what do you call it) I have aunt and relatives excluding my other customers that I supply yam. I don't need to be a small scale seller before I know how the biz works, I have people doing it sir.
From the analysis you made you don't have an idea of the business. Firstly, over 90% of those that travel to Zaki biam to buy yam do not sell directly to final consumers the minimum I bought from that market was 2000pieces per trip. And I don't know any trader that will offload 2000pieces and start selling in 5s and 10s.

You're not in the right position to even talk about real trading of the commodity because you have no clue about the risk factors involved in the business.

The highest you do is people send you money you enter the market and buy the yam and do waybill to them.

Unless you're one of those few farmers that load a 12 tire truck to come and sell their yam directly in Lagos and other cities you're not in any position to dispute or try to rubbish what I have stated above.

Caveat emptor

To lose money on Yam trade is very easy especially if you're doing wholesale. And it's made worst because of the lack of standard unit of measurement. How much is per Kg?
BusinessRe: Are You Interested In Yam Business From North? by Johnrake69: 8:41am On Aug 03, 2020
isaacoco1:
Just like you said, "you struggled" not everyone does, maybe there are things you did wrongly. Basically Beans and Rice and other commodities are measured in Mudu here North, and Congo in South West... Yam definitely has different ways of measurement. Thank God you mentioned "Zaki Ibiam"... Yam purchase in bulk is measured in Kwarai which is 100 tubers of yam, right? if you purchase 100 tubers of yam for 12k that equal means one yam is #120, if you sell 5 of it for #1000 you have made a gain of #400 on 5 tubers of yam... And that is just how it is being sold in South West (Lagos inclusive)... Talking about people pricing your yam so low or what have you, that is where competition in the market comes in, a typical rice could be sold for 22k and another for 25k (the two being local), the two will definitely sell their good!!! You can't beat that if you don't buy in lesser price. The beauty of it all, is to buy at the cheapest price and sell better. How will I buy Palm Oil in Benue where is a bit less expensive and take it to some part of South West that also boost of Palm Oil. If the competition is much where you are and you don't have enough money to beat the competition, why purchasing Yam in the first place? You can buy a bag of rice or any other commodity and still not make headway!!!
I'm not here to argue with you. My points were explicitly stated, it's easier said than done. And talking about having enough money. Why don't you bring the yam to Lagos or any other city and make the money yourself? Have you ever traded yam or any commodity beyond your home state? All you're looking for is for someone to send you money to buy yam in that process you make your money. Which is zero risk.
BusinessRe: Are You Interested In Yam Business From North? by Johnrake69:
Here you have it @Isaacoco1 and @bigiyaro

The major problem I struggled with in Yam trading is lack of a common standard unit for measurement and as such pricing is arbitrary. You can buy one hand (100pieces) of Yam at Zaki Ibiam in Benue @ #45,000 inclusive of logistics thinking you got a good deal and someone in mile 12 market in Lagos is pricing same yam at #40,000 or less.

Then, two things will happen either you decide to sell or you wait. If you wait, some traders might offer you a higher price but on credit. In both scenarios you're screwed.

Recommendation. If you must trade in Agricultural products stay away from commodities with no common standard of measurement like Yam. Rice, Beans, Garri, Cocoa, millet, corn all have common unit of measurement. And as such, you can reliably estimate your expected returns on every trip you make even as a new trader.
