Shocking and sad fact is that if a statistic is carried out I am certain that the result will show that 90% of the Nigerian male age 15 - 45 are fraudsters/ scammers. The ladies ain’t left out either for it will be same percentage attached to the escorts or Ashawo trading as we know it.

And that’s the reason why we are so docile whenever it comes to the affairs of the country and betterment of all because the youths channel their time into selfish needs and illicit activities.

No mercy for them as there are people who suffered more but choose integrity over dishonesty.

Stealing other people’s money is not being smart nor is it hustle it’s just plain THEFT and anyone involved is a THIEF.
How did you arrive at your numbers?

I thought about reporting to her bank because I have all her account details. I don't know if that will help.
About mentioning her IG handle, I gave her till Wednesday next week to refund me, I hope she complies but she doesn't then I will have to drag her name
Go to your bank and file a complaint about it. Your bank will open up communications with the beneficiary's bank. Post no debit will be placed on the account until the merchant comes to sort out the complaint against her. Go with all the details of the transaction. I'm really interested in this because they are same people making online transactions difficult for many of us.

A client of mine from Ghana once paid an online merchant for some shoes and bags to be sent to Accra. She transfered about 75k to the merchant. Immediately the merchant received the money she blocked my client on all her social media platforms. After this incident the client stopped buying things from even me that has always delivered her items to Accra. I couldn't help her pursue the case because she transacted directly with the merchant. It was when she was blocked that I was brought into the picture.

So in this case I will really like to see that she refund the money or she sends you the items you ordered for.

With all the stories of scams flying around I still don't understand how a person can transfer money to someone he/she has never met nor done business with before! huh
You should be more concerned about people being bold enough to still use their bank account in this era of Bvn to still commit fraud. Our banks needs to take online shopping fraud complaints seriously to help build more confidence in the sector

Please Nairalanders, how do I recover my money from an online vendor? It happened that I made some orders from this online vendor on her IG. It's almost three weeks now and I have not received any of the items I paid for from her. After back and forth threats, she finally transfer 40% of the money I paid, she's now claiming that her account has issues so I will have to wait till she sorts the issues before she can pay the remaining balance. But from my observations, I don't believe her because from day one she has never been truthful, she refused sending me my items and now thesame account she used to transfer part of my money suddenly have issues. Now she doesn't answer my calls or reply my messages. She has even blocked me on Whatsapp. Please guys I will appreciate some ideas on how to handle this, I have never had this kind of issues before, so I really don't know what to do now. The balance is big so I can't just let it go.
If it's same bank it would have been easier. The banks don't really act when it's a different bank. They will keep posting you with the talk of waiting for response from the beneficiary's bank

But why are you not mentioning the Instagram handle?

My own receipt bears DIVINE FAVOUR INVESTMENT.The guy I sent lives around ALABA INTERNATIONAL MARKET but not really experienced on their fraudulent activities. He actually bought from a shop and paid to the shop owner before their gang members attacked him after he notice that the TV he negotiated for is different from what he is being given. They claimed he negotiated for non-tested.When the guy protested, they fought him and enforced a receipt without number, phone number etc on him.Luckily,he had collected the phone number of the the man he paid to before the other of his members came in.I still have the receipt and the phone number of the main man that collected the money. This incident happened before the COVID 19 lockdown and we have been calling the number but always switched off.Not until yesterday, when someone complained on nairaland and I said let me try the number again, the guy picked. He claimed he has forgotten, that we should come to the market but later on,he started ranting that what can we do sef. The management of this market needs to look into the activities of these fraudsters
Wow, they have grown so bold. And some people that want to be unfortunate are telling me that am damaging someone's business.

Buy anything from Alaba Market at your own risk.

I think you have generalized your comment and it is quite unfair to those who legitimately do their businesses in Alaba international market.

There are big names in the market selling different kinds of goods from electronics to communications, furniture, vehicles and banks.

OP actually hit the nail on the head with some of the happenings in the market, including the thinking of potential buyers.

There are hundreds of traders in the market who actually refund monies to customers. It is quite unfortunate that the bad eggs who hang around have damaged the image of the good people inside the market. Do you want to say that Samsung, Polystar, etc for example, are part of these bad eggs?

Nigerians generally want to cut corners. What seems too good to be true is well loved by our people. If you have an issue with any trader you are free to complain to the task force and surely you will get good judgement.

For those who have never been there. If you want any item please walk into the market and confidently to any shop. Do not allow yourself be guided by an osoafia person. You can walk around the market, ask questions, feel free before you make your decision to pay for any item.

Lastly Alaba market remains the best market of that level and size in the whole of Africa.
Brother there is nothing unfair about my stand on the issue. The way I felt that day if it's possible to run daily advert to stop new people from visiting the market in order not to get scammed I would do it. And you don't expect unsuspecting new customers to clean up the mess the traders themselves created. Other traders that I spoke to about my ordeal in same market asked me to leave them in the hands of God. They all know about it and it will be wicked of me not to speak out loud to whoever cares to listen.

Let the so called legitimate and hard working traders clean up the mess. Or you expect me to be silent or advice people to go to where I was scammed 60k?

So , do u think if it's that way how do they survive all these years ?

Stop spoiling people's businesses , these boys are in every market go computer village they are there go idumota they are there , we the buyers are the ones to be careful , be street wise , remove greedy , buy from established shops , whenever u are scammed in the market check very well u didn't start well , whenever u go computer village , u will see big big shops why try talk with boys along the road if u know u can't handle their games ?
What are you saying? Kindly send links on threads that has been opened about Balogun and Idumota being a fraudulent market. My advice is not for you as it appears you might be a trader in Alaba for all I care. My advice is for any one that has never been to Alaba market. Never attempt to go there to buy anything.

The way I felt that day if it's possible to run a daily advert to stop new people from going to that market I would do it. The same receipt has always been used. Divine Grace Investment. My friend has both used electronics from Lawanson and got home it didn't work as expected and she returned it and collected her money in full no dragging. But in Alaba, the money you just paid now now, see me see you I haven't touched your electronic is none refundable. Anybody calling that a business is a criminal.
BusinessRe: Alaba International Market, Correcting The Populace Mind And Setting The Record by Johnrake69:
This one is medicine after death. As far as there are no punitive measures in place to deal with those dubious miscreants in that market. My best advice is for a new person is to stay away.

Don't attempt to buy Electronics as a new person in the market. You're better off buying from Lawanson or any other market.

I lost #60k in that market. And I swore never to step into that market.

And this is not about tribe. The main guy that scammed me was Haruna then supported by my Igbo brothers. I see it as the culture of the market. The tales from first timers experience in that market has always been horrible. And don't try to blame it on the guys doing osoafia. They are in Idumota and Balogun too. In fact I use them alot. They earn commissions from the stores and each time I make use of any of them I still tip them because they save me alot of time especially when I'm looking for a particular design of wears.

Like I said earlier, fraud is the culture they have adopted in Alaba market as a virtue.

If you have never been to Alaba before to buy Electronics better stay away. You're 99.99% likely to be scammed. So why take that chance?

The same receipt has always been used. Divine Grace Investment. My friend has bought used electronics from Lawanson and got home it didn't work as expected and she returned it and collected her money in full no dragging. It would be nice if an investigative journalist goes to Alaba and have this racketeering exposed on platforms such as BBC Africa Eye.

I would love to do this myself pro-bono. I'm willing to stake like 50k to expose these mofos. I know I can always get back my 50k by employing the services of the police or the NCDC. Disguise as a seller and catch every nonsense on camera, including the task force activities, the negative and positive arbitrations they do. I have the gadgets including camera shirt buttons, camera pen, camera wrist watch and the usual mobile phone audio recordings to catch every detail. But I don't have the luxury of time.

The same guys that exposed that UNILAG sex for marks lecturers.
I can volunteer if the gadgets are available. Honestly, I lost 60k to those miscreants.

embarassedi went to Alaba international market to buy a set of Tokunbo Home Theatre. Luckily/ unfortunately for me i asked around and i was directed to a shop where i would find my choice. I got to the shop and i specifically told them I want a SAMSUNG Home Theater and the search began. They tested 3 diferrent sets but the last one got my attention and I asked for the price.

The seller (shop owner) told me it was 55k and i negotiated it to 25k and he asked me pay. I requested for his account details but he declined saying he doesn't take transfers. I quickly went to use POS, came back and asked for the SAMSUNG SETS i had priced be tested to avoid foul play. It was tested and i confirmed it. I paid, receipt was issued to me but without going through my receipt, I wrote my name and signed because i never suspected scam.

Now, it was time for me to leave with my purchases and the boy boy told me "the engine/DVD to the home theater i bought does not support or work with electricity but strictly works for only generator ". I asked him to repeat himself and he did. The statement didn't make sense to me. He then suggested he could swap the engine/DVD of the SAMSUNG Home Theater i bought for another one that uses electricity. I sensed foul play and asked him why he didn't tell me these before making payment.

Note: the owner of the shop had gone out when boy boy was telling me this.
Luckily, he came back to meet us arguing. I narrated what his boy told me about the sound system they sold for me he affirmed to it that the engine/DVD doesn't use electricity. I got confused and demanded for a refund. These guys refused. Insisting I take another DVD...i refused either that i preferred what i bought. They refused me going with what I bought. This infuriated a lot of noise and here comes in an elderly man who claimed to be the landlord of the shop.

He asked me what was wrong, i told him and he slapped the Boy boy. At this point, i knew I was being scammed but was helpless as well. It was just only me against Alaba boys. The elderly man asked me to calm down that he was there to help me out bla bla bla and requested to see the receipt that was issued to me me. Lo and behold, the subwoofer and the other 3 small speakers was not included in the receipt. They only wrote the engine/DVD they claimed doesn't use nepa light and even boldly put NO WOOFER & NO SPEAKERS. (indirect or indirectly, i only paid 25k for just the DVD player )

The truth was, i never saw these errors before the arrival of the elderly man. he pointed out the errors and finally told me they don't refund money in ALABA that it was all a trick and the trick was for me to pay any amount cos the sound system i bought was more than 25k that i would have to add more money for me to go with it. I insisted i don't have more money to add and they insisted i take a Chinese product. I no gree.

To cut it short, i finally found out the elderly man was part of them. His job was to distract and calm their victim down. At the end of it all, i only got the subwoofer and 3 small speakers. The ENGINE/DVD was not given to me.

This was my sad experience today in the hands of some heartless Nigerians.

That is the face of the SHOP OWNER. TRUE CALLER shows his name as BEN.

acunnon, do you know this man?
Whoever that wants to hear please never go to Alaba to buy Electronics. You have the worst of the worst of Nigerians there. The main guy that scammed me was Haruna and supported by my
Igbo brothers. That was same receipt I was issued. I lost #60,000 to them. I can't forget Divine Grace Investment in a hurry.

I don't pity Nigeria,it is turn by turn. That year when we were sending Ghanaians home,if they told us that a day would come when Ghana will reject Nigerians with much alacrity and impunity,we would not believe it. Is it only Ghana? no is the answer. We are being rejected all over the globe. An average Nigerian in this generation believes that it is justfiable to make money even if you desecrate another man's country.
It was retaliatory policy. Ghana started it as far back as 1960s

Nigerians should note that Ghana would not under any circumstance allow Nigeria to bully it.

Looks like you have stupid leaders and lawmakers who think issuing threats to sovereign nations just because you have a population like roaches is the way to resolve issues, that would not happen!

Nigerian leaders have developed a dumb attitude of running to defend their citizens at any place if even they are being lawless and going against the laid down laws of the place.

We shall teach you arrogant loudmouths , uncouth and lawless Neanderthals to respect even the smallest people or nation you deal with.

You’ve already fought one civil war, have you sat to analyze some of the causes of that civil war??

We in Ghana would not allow you to come create a situation in our country which could easily spiral into a social strife. Never !!
Nigeria doesn't need to bully Ghana. All is required is to replicate their trade laws here and deliberately enforce it against Ghanaians in Nigeria and possibly get other Ecowas nations to do same and let's see how Ghana can survive that.

My brother has been married to a Ghanaian for more than 10years and yet the Ghanaian government still collects $600 from him for residency permit. Any Ghanaian that is in support of this is simply myopic.

An executive order to stop Nigerians from schooling in Ghana will have more than 40% of your tertiary institutions shutting down. We fund your tertiary institutions through our fees. Ghanaians and Nigerians pay almost same fees to study in Nigeria.

Just check out how meticulously they outlined each accusation and responded to it such that even when their responses aren't factual or truthful you can't help but believe them to an extent. It shows a huge difference in both countries ways of doing things.

They are very confident in their record keeping prowess hence, their insistence on how they sorted their mission building in Nigeria.

Tell our useless disorganized government to show the document for the lease or purchase of the mission land for Ghana.

Very very shameful.

Why dem no go see una finish?

Let's just swallow our pride and bury our heads in shame.

Big for nothing.
You should have looked beyond the issues of lease. The minister didn't rebuff the accusations on how Nigerians are treated in Ghana. Payment of $600 to live and work in Ghana even when you're married to a Ghanaian is outrageous. They have really gotten away with lots of things. When Nigerian Immigration takes only #7000. I really hope the government takes a decisive actions soon.

going after their citizens should come last, to reduce the number of nigerians in ghana, fg shoul stop nigerians from schooling their. Thats the major thing their country benefits from our citizens as ghana has been a tertiary education hub to nigerians thereby adding to their economy.

Nigerian students alone spend over #30bn studying in ghana, not to talk of tourists from nigeria.

What exactly does ghanians contribute to our economy?
The Ghanaian government is simply myopic. If other nations implements same measures can their citizens cope? Your citizens pay #7000 for residency here but you charge as high as $600.

A simple executive order of not recognizing their certificated can crumble their tertiary institutions.

My Bros has been married to a Ghanaian for more than 10years now and yet he has to pay $600 to be able to work and do business in Ghana a policy that is alien to us in Nigeria. If Ghanaians all over the world are made to pay that much can they survive?
