First that's nice of u. 2nd it started from when they were young ( his last born is in Uni now) and the man takes it up as a personal thing whenever he is available, they help him out bt he makes sure he joins in in making d dish, down to going to the market wt his kids, making it even more fun for them cos of course they'll always find something nt foodlike to ask daddy to buy. He enjoys doing it, tht is when he has d time sha, cos he is a busy man, but those few times he has he uses it to spend quality time wt his family, they'll tell their mom they don't want economist here o. So it's nt abt upbringing, and dnt let him hear u call him old man.

to attain the status of a prof in nigeria takes time, hence the old man...

Thank you. Altho I don't mind doing all the cooking and chores , but some men's mentality is very warped, the woman has to do all the house chores, they feel helping her out will make them less of a man but her sharing bills with them doesn't make them less of a man.

I av a Prof in one of the prestigious Unis in Nigerian as a family friend, the wife is also a Prof, he cooks for his family once in a while esp when his wife is tired or sick or travelled, the children sef prefers his cooking cos he doesn't economize ingredients and assortment like his wife.
There are men tht can't even feed their own baby, if the wife dares suggest tht they help out, na trouble. The woman is the one expected to slave around all day and still contribute to the family's finances. An heavily pregnant woman wld be expected to continue cooking for him and his barrage of friends, whether she is sick or healthy she has to cook, if she comes back late from work and tired, she has't cooked, there is trouble, etc . May God help us.

i don't think is proper for an old man to be cooking for his children, i can't imagine my dad cooking when i and my sisters are at home...

Hello Gurus,

Please in a seriously water logged area, what is the use of having a DPC at the base of a septic tank if it will be properly sealed and tested for leaks. Afterall, there will be water around the septic tank and there will be excreta and waste inside the tank. So why damp proof it?

if the water table is high, it is good u damp proof it.

so as to prevent water from mixing up with the excrete.

I hope you can help me with some advice regarding the construction of a long fence o my site.
The fence in question (one side) is the long side of a 1.5 plot which needs to be constructed. Due to the cost implications of doing a raft foundation for this fence I have been advised to do the following to save some costs.
1. Do the blinding for the whole length of the fence
2. Instead of doing a raft foundation I use 3 coaches of 9 inch blocks
3. Pour cement/sand/granite into the 9 inch blocks
4. Use 6 inch blocks for the remaining coaches till we reach the desired height
5. Do the couping once desired height is reach

Please note we will be casting the pillars as normal.
Please advice.

try to do raft foundation.
even if it is 2 board raft, it is gonna be stronger.

because of the reinforcement.

Please don't listen to him, put a lintel over any openings because that will always be a failure point. I will post a picture of a similar door openings done on a renovated work.

It is not advisable sir. If your building has no column before lintel, placing one after lintel will over stressed the sancrete block below and such will cause serious cracking or long time failure.

I will suggest you use polystyrene fascia

but how can we pour the lintel, since there is no space on top? or we should destroy the whole blocks and reset on top of the new lintel?

Chain lintel is very advantageous to a building expecially when it is reinforced round the house.

It solve the following problem
1. It help prevent cracks which may occur at the point where the lintel stop if it is done individually on a lintel.

2. It make the house very flexible, this means you can create a new window openings or door opening without stress.

as regard no 2, during my renovation, we introduced new doors and the site man said the block will serve as lintel. since it is dry, is this safe?

what do u say about starting columns that will support parapet from lintel?
will the pillars be strong enough?

The Head beam has three functions...
1. The Head beam serves has a support for the roof and distributes the load evenly across the external walls.
2. The Head beam serves has a rigid medium to tie the roof truss to the building
3. Due to the lack of quality control and the unpredictable quality of our Sandcrete blocks, The Head beam would give your structure a rigid frame and in combination with columms would reduce the possibility of serviceability cracks occurring in your building.

This is a normal thing.
It doesn't only happen if the lady is 'disabled' or if the man is 'weak' or something.
My bro took his fiancé and I to mall to look at cell phones. While she and I were browsing he held both our purses so that our hands were totally free and we wouldn't have to be concerned about keeping our eyes on our bags.
He's a strong/confident man and carried them for us to be nice and also for safe-keeping bc the rate of pick-pocket/purse snatching increases in busy/crowded areas. He won't stand for us getting robbed, lol.

But if a man is being hassled into doing it or looked down on by his lady for doing this...thats wrong. I'd let her carry her own if there is no appreciation.
