I was the C.L.O of the Edu Local Government (Lafiagi) the Local Gov.hosting the Camp.2014/15 Batch A.
During my days in the Camp,we go to ease ourselves in the bush at midnight. I do buy bathing water from the villagers at #30 per bucket for the 3 weeks.
I paid those Women #1500 to wash my clothes for 3 weeks.Only the white vest,socks and canvas.We were 13 in my cubicle,we gave those women all our vest.
The camp is bad and two batches after my batch,the NYSC D.G heard about the Camp poor state and came down to Yikpata,he first decamped the State Coordinator,and gave the former Governor an Ultimatum of 72hrs to make life easy for the Corpers.
He also gave out his personal mobile number to the Corp members, if of his points are not corrected.
Corp Members were extremely happy,they stopped attending lectures,parade and eat all day at Mami Market.
There is a river enroute Lafiagi in the camp where Corpers go to have fun.The soldiers are mostly unaware that the Corpers had already left the camp.
A friend of mine went to Lagos taking the bushes every Weekend on Fridays and returns on Sunday evening.
The Camp was referred as a town of #50 bike to hell as jokes,because of the heatwaves all day.Kwara is damn hot.

Bro that edu local government get its own special heat generator. I was in yikpata in 2010/2011. I was in igbaja side of ifelodun LGA. My money was being paid to a local government that was after that yikpata camp(can’t remember that LG). I had to go and collect my 3months allowance from that LG before it was resolved.

Haba Oga, I also had a personal experience about life at Yikpata. It's not as how you addressed it, after all there are some Camp that are even more worse than that. We have to be more lenient in the way we paint our image in this country

For you to know that I know what I was saying. I went back to that same camp 3times after my 3weeks stay there. Twice for Lectures and once to meet my LGI during the next camping on Okada through the bush and forests(shortcut). My allowance wasn’t paid for 3months. My LGI has to send me to another LG that was about 30kilometers after the Camp(crossing the bridge of one of the rivers that streamed into river Niger) to collect my allowance that was being paid to another LG.

So essentially I’ve been to that camp ground 4times. I believe I should know the route around that place more than anyone who’s been there only once.


When I was a Corp member there the camp had no hall. It was an uncompleted building.

A camp in the middle of nowhere. The most obscure NYSC camp I know in in the country.


That place is supposed to be converted into prison or military training camps for jungle combats. Even prisoners will complain.

Far from civilization
One single network back then(MTN)

No wonder a Corp member died a batch before mine due to snake bite.

Niger State (Paiko camp) own worse. I could remember we stayed inside classrooms while some people were sleeping inside container.

Yikpata too has classrooms converted to hostel called ecomog.

Yikpata is worst. It’s justfew kilometers from river Niger.

The closest civilization to the camp is over a 100km away from the camp site. Even when you get to the entrance of the camp, Apart from the old bus stop, the sign board and the communication mast at the junction, if anyone tells you there are over 3000 Nigerian youths sleeping inside the bush less that 500meters from the road side(where you stand), you’d find it hard to believe. Meaning if you’re standing on the road beside the camp, you won’t see anything to tell you that there are over 3000 people just 500m from that road. That is to tell you how thick the forest jungle around the camp is.

There are no concrete proofs that china will act like the west did. If they eventually do, fine BUT till now, they have shown nothing but willingness to 'prosper and let prosper'

The west think that china will become them but China has shown no sign of doing that. They are different culturally and have been pretty much isolationist throughout history. They don't go to other countries invading them and killing thousands because of different economic models, they don't invade and threaten you with sanctions because your political system is different from theirs.

While it is possible that china may become imperialist later, I have seen little to no signs till date of that happening.
