Police Discover Shrine In Pastor’s House December 22, 2009 13:35, 3,312 views By Cyriacus Izuekme The Police in Igando Division have discovered a shrine in the bedroom of Godwin Adiele, the pastor of a new generation church in Lagos. The discovery followed the involvement of the 39-year old pastor in the kidnap of another pastor, Chidi Ebube, and the allegation by his wife, Anthonia Onyinye Adiele, that her husband was a ritualist. P.M.NEWS gathered that the police acted on the information that he had a shrine in his house which he consults without his members’ knowledge. When the police raided his house at 1, Bishop Godwin Adiele Crescent, Isheri-Idimu, they found the shrine in his bedroom. The discovery of the shrine has confirmed the claims of Anthonia, his wife, that her husband was involved in rituals. Anthonia made the allegation in an affidavit she filed at a Lagos court while seeking divorce from her husband of 11 years. She is now in hiding with her nine-year old son after she escaped from the pastor’s house. She claimed further that the pastor attempted to use her and their only son, Gospel Ozioma Adiele, for money ritual. Mrs. Adiele claimed that one day, her husband called her and told her that he had vowed that he would be a billionaire and live in his own house before he clocks 40 years. The pastor is now 39 years old. “Since then, he had been behaving strangely and as his wife, I have no access to his bedroom which is always shut,” she stated in her affidavit. Pastor Adiele is currently facing trial at the Ejigbo Magistrate’s Court for alleged kidnapping. He and Pastor Joseph Atoyebi, 51 of Anointed Word Ministries, Lagos, were alleged to have kidnapped Pastor Chidi Ebube for leaving the church “after knowing too much.” The victim was abducted on Igando road and imprisoned at Pastor Adiele’s house for three days. Narrating his ordeal to P.M.NEWS, the victim said he joined the church thinking that the mode of worship and doctrine was in line with the teaching of Jesus Christ, but discovered that the church was into rituals, and he did not like it. He decided to leave the church quietly but they kidnapped him and compelled him to take an oath not to disclose what he had seen and learnt about the church. He was, however, lucky as he escaped and reported his abduction to the police. http://thepmnews.com/2009/12/22/police-discover-shrine-in-pastor%e2%80%99s-house |
They Used My Blood For Ritual: Girl, 15, Accuses Lover, Pastor December 22, 2009 13:31, 1,335 views By Damola Ogundimu A mild drama ensued at Isawo, Ikorodu, Lagos when a 15-year old girl (name withheld), a pupil of Government College, Ikorodu, accused her boyfriend, Akeem Ayinde, 18, and a pastor of the Celestial Church of Christ, Imisi Oluwa Parish, Ikorodu, Prophet Ojo Ikide, of using her blood for ritual. Speaking with P.M.NEWS, the victim said she had been dating Ayinde, a tailor, for about four months, but after a stern warning from her mother, she stopped the relationship. But on 9 December, on her way to school, the victim narrated that Akeem abducted her and took her to his aunty’s (Mrs. Kafilat Samson) house at 28, Aiyedogbon Street, Isawo and slept with her, despite her plea that she was a virgin and not ready to have sex. “After raping me, I was bleeding profusely and he brought out a white handkerchief to clean my private parts. Soon after, his mum came and took us to the Celestial Church where the Prophet told me to sit outside, while Ayinde and his mother were discussing with him inside the church. When the pastor came out, he asked if I was a virgin, and I said yes, and he told me to go home,” she said. The mother of the victim, Mrs. Omolola Adeyemi, told P.M.NEWS that when she got home that day she did not notice anything, but the victim’s father discovered blood on the bed where she (victim) slept. But when he asked her what was wrong, she said she was menstruating. A week after, she was not able to eat anything and was still bleeding. Mrs. Adeyemi said she and her husband took her to a pastor for prayers, and it was when she narrated her ordeal and encounter with her boyfriend and his family members in the church, that they notified policemen at the Owutu Division, who promptly arrested the culprit, his mother, the aunt and the pastor. Narrating his own side, the boyfriend, Akeem, 18 confessed that he made love to the girl and later took her to the church with his mum, because he loved her. He said he wanted to find out from the prophet if he can marry her. When asked why he took his mother along, he said it was his mother who knew the prophet. In his own confession, Prophet Ikide told P.M.NEWS that when the suspect brought the girl to his church, he told him that the girl was two small, and that she was also in school uniform. He felt embarrassed and told them he could only pray for them and charged them N5,000 for prayers. He explained that he was surprised when the girl and her mum came with the police to arrest him. The suspects are still being detained at the Owutu Police Station as at the time of filing this report, while the victim was taken to the Ikorodu General Hospital for medical examination. The police said the suspects would be charged to court after investigation http://thepmnews.com/2009/12/22/they-used-my-blood-for-ritual-girl-15-accuses-lover-pastor |

N2.7bn foreign trips: Senate queries Maduekwe From AMOS DUNIA, Abuja Wednesday, December 23, 2009 •Chief Ojo Maduekwe Photo: Sun Publishing More Stories on This Section Alarmed by the staggering figure of N2.7 billion spent by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chief Ojo Maduekwe, on foreign trips between January and December this year, the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs yesterday queried the Minister over his incessant foreign trips. Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, Senator Jibril Aminu (PDP Adamawa), who questioned the Minister’s several international trips during the 2010 budget defence noted that the incessant foreign trips had become ‘wasteful’ to the country. Accordingly, the Senate directed Chief Maduekwe to, as a matter of national priority, cut down on his foreign trips, stressing that there was no way the entire budget of the Ministries of Commerce and Police is about N2 billion and N1 billion respectively whereas the Ministry of Foreign Affairs alone spent N2.7 billion on only international trips. According to Senator Aminu; “And you are even asking for increase in the 2010 budget. These foreign travels are wasteful. You have to cut it down. There is no way we are going to give you more money for international travels.” In his explanation, Chief Maduekwe said that the international travels being undertaken by his Ministry were for the sake diplomacy which is all about visibility noting that even technology had not helped in reducing international travels. Chief Maduekwe further said; “There is no way that the travel commitment of the Foreign Ministry could be compared to that of the Ministry of Commerce.” Similarly, the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs gave the Ministry knocks for its inability to disburse funds to the nation’s foreign missions that resulted in non payment of salaries and allowances of diplomats for the past three months. Giving reasons for the development, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Alhaji Jibril Maigari, explained that owing to a shortfall of 21 percent in the allotted funds to foreign missions, about N8 billion could not be disbursed. He also said the exchange rate of the Naira to the dollar as contained in the 2009 budget later witnessed a fall when the exchange rate fell and caused a shortfall in the funds disbursed to the missions. He, however, said that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) had paid N4.5 billion to take care of the shortfall, saying that the difference could not be paid since the supplementary budget had not been signed into law. In spite of the explanation, the Senate Committee expressed dissatisfaction at the delay suffered by foreign missions in accessing their funds. Need For Isoko State Not long ago, the National Assembly embarked on the review of the 1999 Constitution which enabled Nigerians to speak on further state creation in Nigeria. Although Nigeria now has 36 states, with a population of over 140 million, the problems of political inequality and injustice are yet to be resolved by the Federal Government. Many Nigerians expected more states to have been created in Nigeria in order to meet the demands of its citizenry. But the Senate limited the first phase of the constitutional review to electoral reform issues and the land use act, in order to avoid the difficulties of past efforts. But indications reveal that some ethnic nationalities are seriously clamouring for their own states in order to avoid the so-called gross marginalization and oppression among notable ethnic groups in Nigeria. Time without number, the Isoko nation has suffered political setbacks from both the state government and the Federal Government. Isoko territory is one of the oil producing communities, whose population is over 1.8 million but with just two local government areas. Bayelsa State was created with just three LGAs in 1996. A substantial percentage of crude oil and gas production is from Isoko land. Come to think of it, Isoko was the second region to discover oil in 1959 after Oloibiri in 1956. Again, Isoko has over 130 oil wells yet there are no infrastructural developments. It is appalling that Isoko land currently has no motorable roads, no bridges, electricity and infrastructure. Many Nigerians still believed that Isoko is not different from Edo and Urhobo; but though they have the same similarities of culture and religion, Isoko is one of the notable and largest communities in Delta State. Isoko people are mainly engaged in commercial and subsistence farming and fishing. Apart from oil and gas, crops like palm kernel, cassava, plantain, yam, rubber, maize and oil palm oil are found in Isoko land. Most communities in Delta State like Urhobo, Delta Igbo and Isoko are large enough to have their own states without any political hesitation. In some of the sensitive political appointments especially in the oil sector, Isoko people are excluded. Isoko has some well-known sons and daughters in Nigeria and the Diaspora like: Idodo-Umeh, Blessing Okpowo, Major Akpebe, Francis Ofor, Jeph Imirile, Eyiyere, Steve Alakpodia, Vote Okpobrisi, Imoni Amarere, Uzezi Alebe and Ben Essien, to mention a few. Delta State is too big for one governor to control; both the previous and present leaders of Delta State have not provided quality leadership in Isoko land over the years. Isoko has some of the best brains in Nigeria, in terms of education and other respected professions. Some Isoko towns, villages and clans are: Ivrogbo, Irri, Oleh, Uzere, Idheze, Ozoro, Emede, Okpe, Emevor, Owho, Olomoro, Ikpide and Igbide. The Isoko have not benefited from the NNPC, DESOPADEC, NDDC, the Amnesty and the Niger Delta Ministry. Can a people with robust level-headed personalities who excel in different human endeavours suffer such setbacks in the 21st century? There is need for the State Assembly members, senators, leaders and elders to pursue the Isoko state creation project. •Godday A. By Albert Akpor, Evelyn Usman, Monsur Olowoopejo Ifeanyi Okolie & Bunmi Azeez LAGOS—TWENTY-THREE years after the death of Mr. Dele Giwa, founding editor of Newswatch Magazine, via a parcel bomb, commercial activities were temporarily stalled yesterday on Ikorodu Road, Onipanu, Lagos, after an explosion rocked a nine-storey building where Superscreen Television has its offices. Eyewitness’ account revealed that the explosion, which was suspected to be a parcel bomb, chopped off the two hands of the man who allegedly came to deliver it, presumably the result of poor timing or wrong handling by the master-minds. The explosion, which took place on the sixth floor of the nine-storey building ‘Logemo House’ (occupied by Superscreen Television) also affected the staff who presumably received the parcel. However, the fate of the staff could not be ascertained at the time of filing this report. Eyewitness’ accounts The eyewitness, who craved anonymity, said the parcel was meant to be delivered to some senior management staff of the TV station. “However, none of the senior staff was around the station when the messenger arrived,” he added. Mr. Dipo Isaac, the Chief Operating Officer of the TV station, who confirmed the explosion, said it was actually addressed to him but fortunately he was away at the time. When contacted, the Lagos Police Command Spokesman, Mr. Frank Mba, could not say if the explosion was caused by a parcel bomb blast or not, adding that the matter was still being investigated and that the messenger should be able to assist, ”when he gets better”. The police said as soon as they learnt of the incident, they immediately drafted anti- bomb squad to the scene where the messenger was picked up and rushed to the hospital. There were, however, different accounts on how the explosion which sent fear down the spines of staff of the various companies in the building happened. Another version said an unknown visitor who demanded to see one of the management staff of Superscreen, gave the combustive substance to a receptionist on the ground floor about 1.45 p.m. The visitor was said to have pointed a gun at the receptionist when the latter demanded that the content of the sealed package be revealed. Gripped with apprehension, the receptionist ignorantly exacted pressure on the package while on the sixth floor, where to his surprise, a deafening sound which left him sprawled on the floor occurred. Another eyewitness said the bomb carrier had his two hands chopped off, The incident caused stampede as fear-stricken staff and other visitors reportedly ran in different directions for safety, though the building was not affected. Police Anti-bomb squad who visited the scene, reportedly found two other explosives yet to be detonated. Indications were that but for the incident, there could have been a disaster that might have resulted in the loss of lives and property. But the police in a sharp reaction said the victim had not been identified as a staff of any of the companies in the building. Police begin probe Mba said investigation had begun to ascertain whether the substance was a bomb. Policemen, he added, evacuated the frightened staff from the building. He could also not give the identity of the victim, saying “he had not been identified by anyone as a staff of either of the companies in the building. Our interest is for the man to get well first before ascertaining whether he was the person that brought the combustive substance or not. ‘’We cannot also say whether the substance was a bomb until when scientifically proved,” Mba stated. In another development, while the anti-bomb squad battled to put the situation under check, a robbery gang attempted to attack a petrol station directly opposite the building but the policemen on ground were able to checkmate their move. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2009/12/23/another-parcel-bomb-explosion-rocks-lagos/

According to the governor, no fewer than four prominent Rivers people have lost their lives in robbery operations on that road. He pleaded with the police in Abia to double its effort in policing of the area, assuring that the Rivers State police command would be willing to partner with the Abia State command to ensure that Obehi which has now become a crime hotspot is safe, especially during this festive period. Rise and fall of the most wanted bandit in the South East – Chuka Arum Ogbodo (Ngwu Egere Omu) Crime Guard Jul 31, 2009 By Emma Nnadozie, Crime Editor, Tony Edike, Enugu & Dennis Agbo, Abakiliki His reign of terror in the area was so frightening that then Head of State, General Ibrahim Babaginda interrupted a crucial meeting of the nation‘s highest ruling body, AFRC to ask the then Police boss, Etim Inyany” The Police boss’ instant pledge was “I will catch him”, and he did within one month and that was the end of the Anini saga. Before then, another notorious bandit, Onyenusi held both Lagos and Ibadan axis in the jugular with his criminal activities. He also ended disastrously. Today in the South Eastern part of Nigeria, both Anini and Onyenusi have resurrected in the person of Chuka Arum Ogbodo popularly called Ngwu Egere Omu (sacred tree tied with palm leaves). His mode of operation and style of execution is very much similar to that of his late robbery kingpins. The only difference is the use of sophisticated modern telecommunication gadgets and weapons in executing his operations. While Anini and Onyenusi made do with locally-made weapons, Ogbodo prided himself as having sophisticated weapons comparable to that being used by the Military. His arsenals comprise both the usually admired AK 47 rifles, explosives, submachine guns and rocket propelled grenades which he used to bomb his targets mostly banks and police stations. Like Anini and co, he was also magnanimous to members of the public during operations as he leisurely sprayed his loot to passers~by and onlookers. In fact, during his last operation in the University town of Nsukka three weeks ago, it was reported that while they were ransacking and ravaging one of the four banks they raided, Ogbodo quietly walked outside the bank premises in search of Ghana-Must-go bags for the money they stole. He strode into a near-by kiosk, collected four bags of Ghana-must-go and threw two neat wraps of N1000 notes totally over N2000,000 to the owner of the kiosk who quickly closed his store and disappeared for the day. A native of Akagbe Ugwu in Nkanu West Local government Area of Enugu State, Ogbodo (35) also brandished his dare-devilry openly in his country home. Reports said he was so dreaded to the extent that when ever he enters any public place or beer parlour, nobody leaves until he satisfied himself and takes his own exit. He succeeded in attending primary school at Central Primary School, Akegbe-Ugwu after which he went to learn trading at Ogbete market in Enugu. Not long after , Ogbodo stayed under his master than his criminal activities started manifesting and he was subsequently expelled from the market. His farther is said to be a timber dealer in Enugu who had since disowned him. Reports said he sacrificed a cow monthly to a popular deity in his village, Atugbuoma, for protection. His name was openly touted in the ragging spate of kidnapping in the South East. The police had spread their dragnets in parts of the states to apprehend Ogbodo and members of his dreaded gang to no avail. The Police believed Ogbodo was involved in most of the bank robberies and kidnapping in the south east and the claim was collaborated by one of his victims in Ebonyi state that was lucky to be alive after the gang robbed a bullion van at Ezzamgbo. The victim, a driver, who was held hostage stated that the gang leader spoke Nkanu dialect and that he had so many mobile phones with him that rang ceaselessly. Ogbodo and his gang trapped that bullion van, catered the money away and set the van ablaze at Ntezi in Ebonyi state. He was said to be on steady convoy of high profile jeeps. Sources in Enugu alleged that he was one of the thugs being used by politicians and that they were responsible for the bail he secured in February this year Chuka Arum Ogbodo is the same person the immediate past IGP, Sir, Mike Okiro referred to as Sylvester Ogbodo. In fact, Sir Okiro had cause to bitterly complain about the despicable role a Judge played in the release of Ogbodo after he was nabbed and charged to court for prosecution. He had earlier declared him the most wanted criminal in the South East. Okiro also described him as a fugitive without a family of his own. Recently, his banditry took a more dangerous dimension in both Anambra and Enugu States. He struck first at some banks in Awka, capital of Anambra State and succeeded in carting away millions of naira with his gang. Before escaping from the scene, they performed their usual ritual of spraying onlookers and passers-bye with money. This operation took place barely a month after some kidnappers invaded the city and kidnapped a business magnate. A divisional Police officer and one other policeman were killed during the raid. Not done with that, Ogbodo and his gang struck at the serene University town of Nsukka where they not only raided four banks but bombed the only police station in a town with about 30,000.000 people after which they killed the gallant divisional police officer who, in spite of protests from his colleagues, confronted them during their operation. Their five hour reign of terror in Nsukka was particularly intriguing. This is because, few weeks before they struck, the divisional police officer in the town was posted out following protests by indigenes of the town and the Catholic community over the rising activities of criminals. They alleged connivance between the police and criminals calling for their immediate re-deployment. Curiously, as soon as some policemen were redeployed Ogbodo struck. Unconfirmed sources said Ogbodo and his gang members operated freely as if they had security network of the town on their palms. They also engaged in their usual spraying of money before disappearing through Nsukka, Adani, Onitsha road. On their way, they bombed four police Hilux jeeps which were pursuing them. Unfortunately for them, as they were cruising towards Onitsha, they encountered a crack team of anti-robbery policemen from Anambra state who laid ambush for them after receiving a distress call from their counterparts in Enugu command. During the fierce battle that ensued, many of the bandits escaped with serious injuries. Two of their members were killed while one person was arrested. Ogbodo who was also seriously wounded managed to escape from the scene. The fleeing members of the gang reportedly ended up at Isuochi in Abia state where their gang leader, Ogbodo gave up the ghost. He was buried in a shallow grave. Incidentally, the arrested member of the gang ended up making confessional statements to the police which helped in rounding up about ten of their members. However, the case of Ogbodo is still not only contentious but controversial. While reports said his remains were exhumed in a village in Abia state, Police in Enugu said they found his dead body somewhere along Enugu-Port-Harcourt expressway. Worse still, members of the public still believe that the whole claim by the police both in Enugu and Anambra is a hoax as they insisted that Ogbodo was still alive and will soon strike again. This is in spite of photographs showing both his dead body , that of his colleagues killed during the battle and their recovered loot. However, the police in both Enugu and Anambra State Commands have stuck to their guns that, at last, they have gotten rid of the most dreaded robbery kingpin,Chuka Arum Ogbodo alias Ngwu Egere Omu http://rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0geu4.WKDFLca0AxQpXNyoA;_ylu=X3oDMTEzZDM4N28yBHNlYwNzcgRwb3MDMTEEY29sbwNhYzIEdnRpZANERlI1Xzgx/SIG=14l21bkkv/EXP=1261599254/**http%3a//www.vanguardngr.com/2009/07/31/rise-and-fall-of-the-most-wanted-bandit-in-the-south-east-chuka-arum-ogbodo-ngwu-egere-omu/ |
