We must take heed of having too great an opinion of ourselves or putting too high a valuation upon our own judgements, abilities, persons, performances. We must not be self-conceited, nor esteem too much our own wisdom and other attainments, not to think ourselves to be something.

When we are thinking of ourselves, we must remember to think not how we attained, as though our might and the power of our hand had gotten us what we have or what we have achieved; but to think how kind God has been to us, for it is He that give us the power to do anything that is good, and in Him is all our sufficiency.

There is no crime in believing that you can achieve great things by thinking big about yourself but if you must; it must be done humbling yourself before God who alone can help you to fulfill your dreams and desires.

Focus: Measure of Grace

The will in every man wishes to accomplish all desires, however, we can only have achievements within the limit of the grace made available for us. Fingers can never be equal due to the fact that there is a measure of grace that will be made available for every individual's life!!!

Our experience in life will never be identical because we are created to fulfill specific purpose. Men sometimes, look at the life of other men and wonder why their own life is not like the life of those men in sight who appeared to be having a good life. In the actual sense, the difference between the lives of men is grace.

Solomon said, the race is not to the swift nor the battle to the strong, neither is bread to the wise nor riches to men of intelligence and understanding nor favor to men of skill; but time and chance happen to them all (Eccl 9:11). Therefore, it is not enough to be swift, strong, wise, rich, intelligent or skillful; all this will only be meaningful when grace is made available.

There is no competition in destiny, life is designed that a man should operate based on specific measure of grace at a point in time. When grace is made available for you at any point in time take your chances.

Focus: Sell Whatever You Have

A man who truly have strong desire to please the Lord in his pilgrimage must come to the level of self-denial in various aspect of life. You cannot serve the Lord effectively if greater part of your life is attached to materialism (vanities of life)!!!

I heard of a man who finds it very difficult to sleep due to the fact that some of his trucks are yet to arrive even when several others are already parked. He was unable to sleep because certain percentage of his life is not with him. Jesus said; you cannot keep your heart away from where your treasure is.

The Lord does not want us to place our hearts on ephemeral things of this life. Therefore, He frowns at accumulating material possessions because the more things you gather the more attached your life will be to them and the less your consecration will be to God.

Hence, Jesus told the young rich man to detach himself from his riches by giving it out to the poor. The Lord is also speaking to you; that you must not be too attached to this life as your fleeting years go by. Only what you are able to save as treasure in heaven is what is truly your own. It will be increasingly difficult to please God as you should until you give yourself away to God and detach yourself from laying vanities.

Focus: The Snare of Vain Glory

Whoever lives to seek the glory of the world will surely sin against God. We are actually called to be faithful, not to seek our own glory!!!

Vain glory, selfish ambition, and self-exaltation pervades the working environment perhaps more than any other traits. Some people do not struggle with diligence and industry because they are driven by their own selfish desires to be “successful.” Whatever you attain seeking vain glory will be empty and meaningless.

If you allow your ambitions to drive you, you will be easily tempted to sin in the most grievous ways. You will easily fall into the trap of getting what you want at any price. You can even be tempted to compromise your integrity and honesty as a Christian in order to attain fame, wealth, and power.

For a Christian, success is the faithful fulfillment of God’s will. Jesus’ work was successful because He humbled Himself before His Father and carried out His will with diligence and submission. He did not seek His own glory, but humbled Himself in the service of others. Put aside all worldly striving and ambition and humbly seek God’s glory instead of your own.

While the vain person is more concerned about receiving the praise of men than he is about living a truly praiseworthy life, the magnanimous person seeks to do good and live an honourable life, even if he is never noticed!!!

A virtuous man will always have this confidence that even if no one on earth notices his righteous deeds, his heavenly Father sees and will reward him. Striving for greatness is at the heart of a virtue called "magnanimity," which means "greatness of soul." This is the virtue by which man pursues what is great and honourable in his life, even if it is difficult.

The magnanimous person pursues greatness in proportion to his ability. He humbly takes stock of all the gifts that God has given him and seeks to use them as best as he can. Magnanimity makes a man deem himself worthy of great things in consideration of the gifts he holds from God.

It is a virtue found in simple, small, ordinary people whose sincere desire to give the best of themselves is used by God to do extraordinary things.

A vain person is the one who is driven by his desire to receive praise from men. He is a hypocrite who is more worried about giving the impression that he does good deeds than actually doing good deeds for their own sake!!!

A vain person can be regarded as "hypocrite". It is used to describe someone who is concerned about projecting a certain character to his audience and pretending to be something he is not.

The vain person also is more likely to fall into divisive actions in his attempt to show he is not inferior to others in his intellect, will, speech, and deeds. They posses the intellectual vice of obstinacy: "by which a man is too much attached to his own opinion," such that he is unwilling to accept another opinion that might be better.

Their lifestyle encourge discord , which is an unwillingness to give up one's own will and concur with others. They engage in contention, whereby a man likes to be argumentative. They are disobedient to every godly principles just to ensure that they receive praises from men.

Vainglory is a capital vice that gives birth to many other vices. Every product or glory of the sinful nature is void or empty before God!!!

When our hearts are set on gaining the praise of men, we are likely to develop several other faults along the way. For example, we may seek to win people's attention through self promotion in our words. In conversation, we might drop certain people's names, point out our achievements, or exaggerate our successes with the hopes of having others esteem us highly. This vice is more or less boasting in disguise.

We also might tend to throw ourselves into the center of attention through eccentric behavior, or by being "in the know" about the latest news or gossip, or by having the latest technology. This fruit of vainglory is regarded as love of novelties.

We might receive applause here on earth as a result of some wonderful qualities in our lives, but Jesus says we will not receive a reward in heaven. On the other hand, the soul that desires to keep his piety hidden is the one who draws down the praise of the angels and saints.

A man might pour his heart into his ministry partly because he loves the praise he receives from the pastor and his church members for his good work. If we do good deeds in order to draw attention to ourselves and not to God, to that extent we suffer from vain glory.

Similarly, when it comes to devotional practices, Jesus said, "Beware of practicing your piety before men in order to be seen by them; for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven" (Mt. 6:1). We are expected to examine how pure our motives are when we practice our faith.

Do we worship God and serve the Church purely out of selfless love for God, or is there a part of us selfishly seeking to receive attention and praise from men? Often, our motives are quite mixed. We may give time and money to the Kingdom business, but is there something within us hoping that others will notice our generosity?

We may take time for prayer because we love the Lord, but is there a part of us also hoping our friends, our spiritual director, or the people we serve will notice and think better of us? We may practice mortifications such as fasting, but is there a part of us wanting to appear more devout than others?

Most of us desire the approval of our bosses, parents, spouses, or friends. And this is natural. If, however, these people do not truly understand what a good, virtuous life is, we will likely be disappointed, frustrated, or misled.

To seek their recognition would be pursuing vain glory, for they are not able to judge what is truly praiseworthy. They sometimes will praise the wrong things, and they will fail to recognize what is most noble in life. They might even look down upon aspects of our Christian life.

Therefore, instead of seeking the approval of worldly men, we should seek the praise of Christ-and by extension, His faithful followers who judge by His standards, not the world's.

Vain glory can be regarded as seeking praise for something that is not truly praiseworthy. Of course, this would include seeking praise for sinful acts. The college student, for example, who hopes to gain respect from his peers for his drunkenness, his sexual exploits, or his cheating on an exam is pursuing not true, but vain glory.

Yet even devout Christians are susceptible to this vice when they plan their lives around the standards of happiness and success set up by the world. For example, a part of us might hope to gain respect from old friends and family members for having a successful career, wearing the latest fashions, having children succeed in school, living in a nice home, etc. These are not evil pursuits in themselves, but they can distract us from pursuing Christian ideals such as charity, generosity, simplicity, and humility.

If these worldly pursuits hinder us from living a truly praiseworthy life-a life of virtue and holiness-then we may be seeking the vain glory of this world more than the glory of God.

A young man called Jesus a good teacher but the Lord replied Him that no man is good except God alone (Mark 10:17-18). He said this to establish the fact that it takes the presence of God in the life of a man to be good. Therefore, a good man is a man who submits himself to God to do His good pleasure in Him.

Every intent of the hearts of men will continue to be evil until the Lord takes charge of such life. It is the ultimate pleasure of the Lord to order your steps. This is the only way your existence can contribute meaningfully to His purpose on earth. As you proceed in destiny, submit yourself to God and walk according to His will.

Someone said you cannot know the real personality of a man until he is highly placed in terms of money at his disposal or the authority he has. There are several men around us who appeared to be gentle or easy going simply because the situation of life and the resources at their disposal subjected them to a life of humility thereby bringing them to the end of themselves by force.

This is the reason why the prayers of some men are yet to receive the required answer before God. Because the blessing of God in the life of such will rather kill them and hinder the manifestation of His glory in their lives.

Your life is a product of grace and privilege. You are what you are by God's grace. As you increase in the journey of destiny, allow God to work in you to do His good pleasure. Always remember the person you used to be and the grace of God that brought you up from the miry clay of life.

In the Bible verse above, the phrase "My people" was not used for sinners or unbelievers. How possible is that; for the people who belong to God to be destroyed just because of what they don't know? This means that if a man fails to learn under God some things critical to his destiny, he may not become what God wants him to be.

Here, the Lord is making it clear to us that ignorance is not an excuse before Him and that He has allowed many of His own people to perish because they lack knowledge. There are some natural laws and principles that must be obeyed. Several men couldn't live long because they had no idea of how to manage their bodies in the midst of tight schedule. To some, they lacked the knowledge of controlling what they eat, where they live and what to wear at a point in time.

The ministry of several so called men of God experienced a premature death because they lacked knowledge of what ministry is all about. Summit yourself to learn under God what is essential to your destiny.

In this life we have seen people who have great prospects and wonderful opportunities but couldn't achieve anything with it. There are people who used to be wealthy, influential and knowledgeable but today they are shadow of what they used to be. Many have become history even in their life time because they were overcomed by evil days.

If you can observe what is happening around you and your experience so far in life, there is no need to justify the fact that there are evil days. Most times various opportunities in various aspect of life come to prepare you against evil days.

Life will not but always give you the chance to do the will of God in every facet of life. Generations will continue to speak about David, Abraham, Joseph and others because they use the opportunity they have to please God. Opportunities to make it big in career, ministry, marriage, business. When such opportunity comes don't blow it up take your chances.

It is a privilege to be young, a time is coming when those things you so much love will leave you no matter how passionate they appear to be to you because your age will no longer favour such. The preacher admonishes young people to remember their creator in the days of their youth before evil days come.

The essence of the temptation and challenges you are passing through on daily basis is to present something to you in exchange for your soul. The only business the devil has with you as you proceed in destiny is to ensure that he gets hold of your soul.

The devil was ready to give our Lord Jesus the glory of this world if He would just bow and worship him. But our Lord pledged an allegiance to serve only God the Father. The devil also deceived Adam by telling them that they will be like God if they eat the forbidden fruit but on the contrary they lost their glory and sold the entire human race to corruption.

Jesus said what profit have you if you lose what truly belongs to you on the account of ephemeral things of this life. What have you become or achieved at the expense of the the will of God that you know? Your soul is so precious and priceless. It is the only luggage that goes with a man at his death. Submit yourself only to God so as to inherit His kingdom.

In the Bible text above it was in record that as far as the word of God about the children of Israel is concerned not a word of any good things spoken about them failed. This is coming after several souls perished in the wilderness. They didn't perish because God was unable to take them into the promised land but because they failed to follow God in the premises of His promises for them.

We can rest in the fact that God will complete what He started in us provided we walk and work in the premises of His promises in our lives (Phil 1:6). What He has not done are those things waiting for time, what is not in His will for your life and what you do not allow Him to do as a result of negligence in playing your part or disobedience to His principles.

We have read about Abraham, David, Joseph and other wonderful men in the scriptures. All the word of God spoken concerning them came to fulfillment. Therefore, our God does not have any record of failure. When situation appears as if He failed the problem is with us not Him.

The word of God made it clear to us that: A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity. (Proverb 17:17). There are several people who find it very difficult to make it in life because no one was available for them or they didn't make themselves available to receive their God ordained help.

As you proceed in destiny, remember those who had your back in your time of incapacitation. Be available to help others who need it at your disposal. Make best use of every opportunity to be a blessing. No matter how wonderful a relationship can appear to be, it has an expiry date. Nothing lasts forever in the land of the living. Don't neglect your people, be available for love and help them as your fleeting years go by.

As for Daniel, they knew him as the Servant of the living God. At a point, his faith in God was put to test. The fact that he stood the test made God to arise for his deliverance in the lion's den. The efficacy of the God he serves was made known in the entire kingdom of babylon.

The way you live among men is a proof of your faith and the nature of the God you serve. How strong is your faith, believe and trust in God? What is your convictions about your God? Will men be pleased to serve your God? What confidence do you have in God?

The Almighty God, the creator of all things is abundantly able to deliver and to save those who trust and walk in His ways. From generation to generation, He has no record of failure.

The three Hebrews denied themselves of whatever benefits they stood to gain under the government of King Nebuchadnezzar and chose to worship only God and nothing else even in the face of death. This had been their lifestyle right from the point of their selection into the affair of Babylonia government. God rose at every point to honour them because they made decisions for His Glory.

All men who became something for God in the journey of destiny were men who honoured God with their decision. The Lord honoured the likes of Joseph, David, Abraham, Daniel because their decisions at every critical junction of their lives honoured Him. The Lord is taking note of your decisions at every junction of life. To be what God wants you to be, you must honour Him with your decisions.

God compensated people like Abraham, David, Joseph, Job, Daniel and many others according to the days various life situation afflicted them and the years they've seen evil as a result of their love, commitment, faithfulness and sacrifices for Him.

Therefore, be mindful of the fact that in the manner God took some people away to Himself, the same way He will take you when the time comes.

Death is not to be feared if you are ready to meet your God at all times. It is going to be disastrous if you meet the Lord unprepared.

However, a delay in finding grace and mercy in this wilderness of life prolongs your struggle for fulfillment in every facet of life.

The dreams of the likes of Joseph and David was fulfilled at the age of 30. Daniel and his three friends came to lime light at their prime age. They had access to the mercy of God on time and they all fulfilled their dreams. Nevertheless, these men also gave themselves early enough to God. They remembered their creator in the days of their youth (Eccl 12:1).

Your life is a product of several sacrifices and investment. You are created to be a prophet and a saviour onto many nations. The destiny of many lives depends on your early rising. There is nothing you can do if God does not have mercy on you; yet your days are running out and several creations are waiting for your manifestation.

Gehazi saw the gift Naaman brought in appreciation of the goodness of God in his life as an opportunity to get something for himself but got leprosy. Jacob exploited the hunger of Esau to rob him of birthright but lost his peace and stayed away from the inheritance of the Lord for years; this wasted most of his prime years.

There are many things people called opportunities today which led many to untimely death and others away from the perfect plan of God for their lives. Whatever forces your life to do contrary to the perfect plan of God for your life is not an opportunity but a trap to your destiny.

At a point in the life of Joseph, it appeared as if he had no God despite his obedience to God's principles. His enemies even boasted that they will see what becomes of his dreams. At the right time, the Lord proved Himself as the Almighty by standing by his side to bring His words to pass.

Your case may appear like that of the psalmist stated in the Bible verse. You are so helpless to the point that most situation of your life is making you to cry. If truly you are a child of God dwelling in His will; be mindful of the fact that your redeemer lives and He shall come to deliver you like He did for the likes of Daniel, 3 Hebrews and Joseph.

Focus: Believing in your mandate

WORD FOR TODAY
You can only fulfill your mandate when you are consistent in obedience to God's instruction for your life on the pathway of destiny. To obey God at all cost means you believe in your mandate!!!

All men who fulfilled their mandate did that by obeying God and putting off every work of flesh stated in the Bible verse above. The ordeal of men who failed in destiny begins at a point when they chose to disobey God. You will be doing great harm to your life if you consistently choose the wrong path of life and disobey God in His principles.

If you must be what God wants you to be, then you must obey Him and put off every works of flesh. Joseph came to a turning point in his life time and he made the right choice by obeying God. Every works of flesh allowed to manifest in your life attacks your mandate and the plan of God for your life.
