US based, Nigerian rapper Wale and girlfriend, Chloe Alexis have welcomed their first child together after 72hours of labour. The baby has been named Zyla.

Announcing the good news on social media,Wale said.....

'Overjoyed . I keep the most important things in my life so far away from people because I'm sensitive . Quite possibly too sensitive to even be in this business nevertheless I spoke on the downward spiral that ensued after complications with my previous child... For that reason I kept this very private as I prayed every day to receive this blessing .  Thank You to all my friends so many , Iman/Teyana . Draya and O.Mel and Robyn. Finn Balor Neil Lawi. Bryson, Kehlani  WizardEd.. So many ppl that stayed up wit me and talked me thru  such a sensitive subject ... The rapper had to cancel his performance at the One Africa Music Fest which took place at Barclay's Center in NYC to be with his girlfriend, who was going to put to bed. Chloe gave birth yesterday afternoon in New York. Congrats to them!

A Nigerian journalist journalist and presenter Didi Akinyelure has won this year's BBC World News Komla Dumor Award, which aims to celebrate African journalism and reward exceptional talent.She is the second person to win the award,the first having being won by Ugandan news anchor Nancy Kacungira.

Ms Akinyelure comes from Nigeria and has been working for CNBC Africa in Lagos since 2013. She presents business news for CNBC, which broadcasts across the continent.She will join BBC news teams in London in September for a 3-month placement.

Komla Dumor Award is established to honour Komla Dumor, a presenter for BBC World News, who died suddenly aged 41 in 2014.According to Ms Akinyelure,Mr Dumor was someone she admired.

“He told the African story with so much passion for the continent, giving a balanced view and inspiring so many.”

One of the judges who selected Ms Akinyelure, BBC Africa’s Josephine Hazeley, said Ms Akinyelure particularly excelled in telling business stories, “which was an area Komla was also passionate about”.

OLYMPIC FUNDS TO BE RELEASED WEDNESDAY- DG BUDGET

The Ministry of Youth and Sports will receive its budgetary allocation for the Rio Olympics by Wednesday July 20, 2016.

The Director General, Budget Office of the Federation Mr Ben Akabueze gave the assurance on Monday at a meeting of the House committee on Sports held with the Ministry of Youth and Sports , the Accountant-General of the federation, the Nigeria Olympic Committee and the Director- General, Budget office of the federation at the House of Representatives, National Assembly, Abuja.

The Deputy Chairman, House committee on Sports, Hon Anayo Nnebe had enquired why funds budgeted for the Olympic Games in Rio were yet to be released barely three weeks to the opening ceremony.

"The committee resolved to invite the Minister of Finance, the Director General Budget, the Accountant General of the federation, the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, the Permanent Secretary and the President Nigeria Olympic Committee because Nigerians are worried that up till now, funds have not been released for the Olympics. The implication is that almost every part of preparations for the games is on hold. We cant prepare without funds. Releasing funds just a few days to the games will not be good enough to prepare the athletes for the games" Hon Nnebe said.

The Minister of Youth and Sports Development Barrister Solomon Dalung however assured that the Ministry had done its best in preparing 78 athletes for ten events despite the non availability of funds.

"Lack of funds has dampened the morale of the athletes at this time. They could have suffered from psychological inconveniences including poor nutrition , non -payment of allowances and other social problems and may not give you their best. The money is not just about training for the Olympics but other special needs of the participants. The failure to release funds up till this this time has placed us in great jeopardy. We have run out of goodwill because we haven't even been able to pay back money borrowed in the cause of waiting for funds to be released" Dalung said.

In his response, the Director-general, Budget office of the federation Mr Ben Akabueze stated that his office had a budgetary allocation of N600m for the Olympics. N415.6m was for preparations of Olympic and Paralympic Games and an allocation of N184.6m to the Nigeria Olympic Committee to facilitate the games proper out of which the ministry had sought the release of N503, 977,710m.

" You will recall the late approval of the budget and the challenges of processing this release which was occasioned by the long public holidays. The bottom line is that in a a day or two, the funds will be released" the DG assured.

One of the committee members and President, Cycling Federation of Nigeria Hon. Mohammed Nur Sheriff however urged the Budget office to also take a step further to ensure that the funds needed for the games were paid to the ministry in dollars to save them another long process of getting the foreign exchange value.

"We need to be proactive and engage the Central Bank of Nigeria in assisting in processing the procurement of foreign exchange pending when the funds are released".
The Olympic village opens to athletes on July 24 while the opening ceremony is billed for August 5 2016.

One person died Sunday evening when an 18-seater-bus being chased by the officials of the National Union of Road Transport Workers crashed along Iwo road - Toll Gate expressway. The NURTW officials allegedly chased the commercial bus for picking passengers at unauthorized place.



Two passengers who were among those that survived the crash said the transport union members, riding in a vehicle with NURTW written on its body, smashed the windscreen of the bus and threw a tyre in its way, making the driver to lose control and the vehicle summersaulted, as it went up in flames.

The passengers were lucky to escape with the help of people around the scene. Unfortunatley, the driver, who was trapped under bus was however burnt beyond recognition.

His remains were evacuated by officials of the Toll Gate Unit of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Oyo State Sector.

TROOPS INTENSIFY ARMED BANDITS CLEARANCE OPERATION IN ZAMFARA STATE

As part of the activities marking the Nigerian Army Day Celebrations (NADCEL) 2016, troops involved in live field training exercise code named "Exercise HARBIN KUNAMA", have intensified patrol of the various forests in Zamfara State.
It is in line with that troops of 223 Battalion while on patrol encountered armed bandits at Madaka village, Maru Local Government Area in which they killed 9 armed bandits and recovered 3 AK-47 rifles, 2 AK-47 rifles magazine, 3 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition, 1 machete and 24 motorcycles.
Similarly, local vigilantes at 'Yargada village, Gusau Local Government Area apprehended a fleeing suspected armed bandit and handed him over to troops deployed at Magami.

In a related development, troops have also raided a bandit camp at Gangamai village in Dansadau Local Government Area. During the raid there was an exchange of fire between the troops and the armed bandits. Unfortunately, the bandits escaped with gun shot wounds. However, the troops recovered 2 Dane Guns bags containing marijuana (aka Indian hemp).

Another team also carried out raid on cattle rustlers and armed bandits camp at Gidan Mai Jaja in Dansadau general area. Here, the rustlers and armed bandits fled on sighting the approaching troops abandoning 85 cows, 37 sheep and a donkey.

Similarly, another patrol team also carried out a raid on a armed bandits and cattle rustlers camp at Gobirawan Kwacha where they killed 2 armed bandits and recovered a machete.

It was such an emotional, exciting and touching moment yesterday for the family of Akubaa in Oru East L.G.A Imo state as Her Excellency, Mrs. Nneoma Rochas Okorocha commissioned and handed over a modern two bedroom furnished bungalow to the only surviving child of Mr & Mrs Akubaa after the recent demise of the widow -Mrs Akubaa last weekend.Speaking while presenting the house to the orphan,Her Excellency, Mrs. Nneoma Rochas Okorocha on a mandate to aid the needy, orphans and indigent widows said...

"With a roof over his head, he can enjoy the comfort of a home and settle down to have an education".

"I'm always careful to return all glory and praise to God for using me as a vessel to put smiles on the faces of those that have forgotten how to smile."

According to Ohalete Wisdom Mayor who shared the photo on Facebook,Imo state governor Rochas Okorocha has demolished part of his hotel/fence in the process of trying to develop Imo state.This came some weeks after 'wailers' accused him of demolishing ex-minister Ihenacho's fence while sparing his own.Ohalete wrote.....
