Silent reader..but i thought to share this one. I think everyone should apply for their gcms notes so you can plan yourself accordingly. it will certainly give you an idea of VO's leanings on your matter especially if you haven't gotten an update and your application has been ongoing for at least 3 months +. It seems a lot of decisions have already been made.

Profile: BSc Engineering, 30+, Married, Banker, going for MBA @ UoT

1st application; Applied 9th Feb
No medicals
Biometrics done 17th Feb
BVL 5th Mar
1st Application Refused 6th Mar
Reasons: Home ties, Purpose of visit, Employment prospects
Applied for GCMS 10th Mar
Received GCMS 8th April

2nd application 28th April
Revised LOE specifically targeting visa refusal reasons and VO's concerns as seen in GCMS notes
Upfront medicals
Medicals passed 26th May
BVL 26th May
No update since, no AIP
Started classes online without resigning 1st Sep
Applied for GCMS 1st Sep
Received GCMS 19th Sep

I suppose 'info sharing' as seen in the notes implies that PPR will happen when travel restrictions ease and normal operations resume.

It will end in praise.

Hello Frankrobbn1,

I would like to request your advice on my Proof of funding.

My tuition and living expenses for a year is almost 5 million. Is it better to show this amount in my sponsors statement of account (balance of 6.5million) *OR* for him to send the 5million funds into my personal account(there by submitting my own account statement as prove of funds)?

NB: I also have a yearly scholarship from my university totalling 6k CAD.

Frankrobbn1:

I'm thy humble servant to command. We are all gathered here for a purpose, which is to assist each other's and acquire vital information that would be helpful in our various applications and thus everyone should be treated equal without hierarchy. I feel more comfortable when people refer me as Frank, not Sir cool .... However, I'm glad you find the little piece of information useful.

All the best with your application.

Thanks a lot boss. I will follow your advice.

Frankrobbn1:

Boss; sorry to have skipped your message.... From the attachment you shared on this thread, I deduced that your refusal was as a result of your SOP which the visa officer outrightly stated was vague and poorly documented - You didn't succinctly explain your plan of studies in Canada as well as your establishment here in Nigeria that would considerably demonstrate that you're well-established and your proposed program would be a reasonable experience given your significant ties back home.

In your next Application, I would highly suggest you work on your ties here in Nigeria. Holdings like landed properties, investments, buildings etc.. should be adequately explained how they will compel your return home.

Having said that, you should state why you must return to Nigeria considering that Nigeria is a developing country and lots more of unending career opportunities await you as professional in your speciality across diverse industries/organizations within and outside of Nigeria which can further motivate their departure home. The impact and difference you can make in the lives of your country men... Do you plan setting up an NGO of your own, in an effort to create awareness about your program? An academy that would solely be to train and nurture the young ones about the importance of the program? All centered on creating job opportunities for teeming youths in your home country.

The aforementioned ties can be your unwavering commitments back home and for this reason should be sufficient to satisfy the visa officer that your economic incentives of coming back to Nigeria far outweighs that of Canada.

Once you're done crafting a mind-blowing SOP, contact any of the knowledgeable individuals here to vet, re-structure and make amendments where Applicable.

Brace Up! I see you getting the VISA the next trial.

It shall end in praises for everyone here.

I regret to hear your study VISA was rejected. I would suggest you order your GCMS note as soon as possible, so we could have a clearer picture to the factual reasons behind your VISA Rejection. I will assist you in my little way, but do your best to share your profile here and the generic reasons that were stated on your refusal letter.

It shall end in praises

I have ordered my GCMS notes already. Attached is the VO's comment.

Rejected based on;
1. Family ties in canada and home country.
2. Purpose of visit.
3. Personal assets and Financial Status

Sorry, I know this is painful. I hope you have the strength to give it a third try and this time, it turns out to be approved. If you can defer your application to January and order your gcm notes this month, Canadian VO can surprise people ehn, I m ready to assist in your 3rd application in anyway. Going by the recent trend of rejected applications, one can come to an assumption of a quota reached system for study visa however be encouraged to give it a third try.
You would get it this time

I will try a third time. The only problem is that I think my program only allows fall resumption. I have sent a letter to confirm all that and if my admission can be deferred.

Uniqueness of My Profile
-Haven't worked for about 18 months. Only been doing volunteer academic manuscript writing and related research work.
-No money in my account because I hadnt earned in a while only been spending. But my parents and husband had to make lump sum transfers of 3m and 2m respectively, so I had 5m in my account which I explained in my SOP)
-Travelling with a toddler who's a US citizen ( I was initially confused about how to include her in my application)

Now My Story
I made the decision to go back to school last year September while on maternity break. Then I had only 6 weeks to the admission application deadline. I had not gotten a supervisor yet. So, night after night (because I'm nocturnal), I went through hundreds of profiles of potential supervisors until I came across an exceptional one whose interests aligned with mine. I dug deep into his profile and research history to learn more about him. Then, I wrote a well-written, succinct email to him. In my mind, if this man replies me within two weeks then I must apply. I sent the email at 8:30am (Canadian time) so that it will be one of the first emails he reads when he logs in. He replied in less than 2 hours that he would be happy to supervise me. Then the application process began.

My program required IELTS so I had to write it but that was done after the application deadline. I was lucky to get an extension for that. I submitted the application an hour to the deadline while caring for my sick child in the hospital. I was so stressed that period so I couldn't package the application well enough, as a result, I almost didn't want to submit. The program is competitve and I also needed funding. Then I remembered that my potential supervisor would be expecting my application, so I went ahead to submit it like that. It was the only school and program I applied to so that meant all my eggs were in one basket.

Having started 2019 with a serious challenge, I got the happiest news of the year in March that my application was successful. It took me about 2 months to gather the requisite supporting documents for my application. When I got confused about how to package my application, I resorted to this Nairaland platform which had helped me in the past. I met two amazing persons here who assisted me through it all. Shout out to the Jays - @justmellow and @juleskiki. These people were very instrumental to the success of my application. They were my support system throughout the 8weeks of silence from CIC. I'm sorry for all the rants guys. Massive gratitude to you. I owe you @juleskiki a lot in addition to a good pot of soup in Ontario, just name the soup and it will be done. @Justmellow, I no wan give you an open cheque before you go name the kind things wey dem dey use bury Benin monarchs. But any which way we go still settle.

In all, my application took 8 weeks during which there was no update until the day that marked the 8th week. It was a very trying period for me. Sometimes, I had doubts about it scaling through, however, I learnt a lesson of patience. Prayers, prayers, prayers, need I say more? I even embarked on a spiritual program (July 6th - 31st) not just for this but to get to know God more. At the end of it all, I have become a better person.

All glory to God, honour to my Mother Mary!

Hi guys, been a silent reader here following all your advice, been a big source of encouragement & reference for me.
I got my approval yesterday.

First Application.
Applied online : June 22, 2019
Biometrics: June 26, 2019
Medical: July 17, 2019
Passed: July 20, 2019
Approval/Correspondence :August 1, 2019

Just want to say, I was really worried as all the documents I submitted for proof of financial ability were much and after managing to compress to 3.9MB, the documents didn't look to sharp, I thought that it would be an issue but I thank God, for favour. I will suggest if you are having same challenges as I did, you can use CamScanner on Android play store, I found out about it after submitting mine with poor resolutions.
Thanks.

If your medicals have been passed and both eligibility and background checks are simultaneously going on. What does that mean for one's application (with upfront medicals already passed)?

In the next application, there should be a ready sponsor that will proposal to support her other expenses and flight itinerary, by writing either a letter of support or sponsorship. If possible there should be a formality of setting up a savings account in her name, depositing the required LE or less, or raise a bank draft in her name. Then submit both the PA's and Sponsor's BS. This should solve the personal asset and financial status.

Good luck!

Thanks

I don't know if she submitted a sponsor's statement of account, if she didn't, she needs to do that. Because even if the scholarship can cover her tuition and living expenses, she still needs to show she can take care of herself if that fails.

Good luck.

Ok, I'll pass the information over to her parents

Does the scholarship cover her living expenses too or it's only tuition? And did she get a sponsor to write a letter for her and submit sponsor bank statement and other necessary documents?

Yes the scholarship covered everything apart from travelling expenses. The scholarship is from the school. So no bank statement and all.
