Despite the fact that others will say otherwise, I resent the fact that I'm Nigerian.
Does it mean that I hate that I'm Nigerian or I hate Nigeria? No, it just means I don't feel any particular sense of pride when I tell people
I'm Nigerian, sure as hell not like Americans when they say "I am American" or "I love America" you know for sure that they mean it for real.
Ask a Nigerian outside Nigeria "will you go back to Nigeria?" they say "No" or "I'll go back to marry" or "I'll send my kids to do
secondary school there" or some other stupid s**t and yet these are the same people who claim they are proud of Nigeria and love Her.
Ask a Nigerian inside Nigeria, why are you proud of Nigeria? "we have good football players", "Nigerians are too much", "we are hard men"
"we are resilient", yeah resilient people who keep on taking sh*t, is that really a good thing?
Giant of Africa my a**,We have a population of 130 million+ people, excluding the millions of Nigerians who are out of the country and over 140 tribes is that really a good thing? Is our oil really a blessing? can we call Nigeria a giant when over half of Her children are living in poverty?
Shouldn't we try to solve our problems first, instead of trying to solve Africa's problems? or trying to be the "Giant"?
I hate the fact that I'm called African instead of Nigerian.

I hate that I cannot ask the police for directions to an area I don't know, I hate that I cannot call on the police to successfully retrieve a stolen item, or successfully catch or deter armed robbers.
I hate that Nigerians put all their faith in religion instead of trying to do something about our situation.
Even though the same people that brought you this religion do not believe in it anymore and refused to acknowledge you as their equals when they brought it to you.
I hate the fact that people kill people over something that happened in Denmark, even though they cannot point out Denmark on the map or know what Her capital is.
I hate the fact that churches outnumber schools in Port Harcourt, and that a church can leave an open roof next to my family house, and hold night vigils when I'm trying to fu*****g sleep.
I hate that the Individual ethnic groups within Nigeria are not accepting of each other's cultures, yet upon hearing "separation of Nigeria" rally for
"One Nigeria"
I hate that homosexuals cannot be accepted in Nigeria. How do their actions directly affect you?
I hate that women are treated as items, Bride price? or that people can beat their wives in public and the police wont do anything. I'm all for equal rights son. My mom and dad raised me and my brothers,sure it was rocky along the way, but they treat each other as equals and defer to the other in areas/activities they are unfamiliar with and share equal responsibilities.
I hate the fact that I don't have any faith in my generation to change Nigeria's situation, I hate that I can only count on myself to exert that change. I hate that I'm only 20 and saying this.
I hate that the troop of monkeys that are Nigeria's leaders can send their children out of the country while the people they stole from suffer.
I hate that they can buy their way out of Prison not a cell but fucking prison or do prison by proxy, while someone can await trial at maximum security prison for 10 years.
I hate that I'm reconsidering my socialist beliefs because I have little hope for the clusterfuck that is the Nigerian government.
At the end of day though I love Nigeria because I have no choice but to love her, much like an unwanted teenage pregnancy.
I hate and fear that things would not change, that there can be no revolution or radical change in thinking, but I hope to do something goddammit! I refuse to go with the flow, I refuse to be sheep and I hope other Nigerians on this board feel this way too.

If you feel that being like Nigerian is like a teen pregnancy, renounce and claim something else. You do have a choice you would not be the first Nigerian to do this, nor the last. Get you Canadian Citizenship and never return to Nigeira, when people ask you, you can tell them that you are from the WEst Indies, I and others will continue to be the TRULY PROUD Nigerian's WE ARE!

poster, I had never considered myself someone who could react to racism. As a matter of fact, I denied claims of racism from some of my friends until I decided that I should reside permanently in 'the land of the white man'. the city I live in is predominantly white and you only need to hear stories of what happens to non-white people for you to start reacting and becoming bitter towards them.

I know that I may never have suffered from racism as much as many other people but I do realise that my attitude has changed with regards to other races as a result of my experiences and the things that I hear about.

To sum it up, if white people never showed me racism, I'd never have anything but normal human love for EVERY human being

How can you actually ascertain that if 'white people had not shown you racism you would have had love for every human' The fact that you do not have love for every human should no way be blamed on the white man. This is a ddecsion that you made on your own, based on the poor experiences you have had. I have had bad experiences with ALL races, but I treat human beings equally and deviate only at the personal level

WACK example for you to consider : A man takes a $10,000 loan from a rich man to do business in Nigeria with that money. Unfortunately for him, his business idea did not pan out and he spends the next 2 years trying to find a job to pay off his debt to the rich man but no deal. These sort of deals happen every day across africa daily. Has it worked for many?? Definitely. From mothers who send their daughters/sons off to be servants in the city in exchange for education during the same time. Is it then wrong even with the good many have gained from such arrangements?? I say NO, you decide your view on this instead.

Let me just say that after considering all the many forms of slavery that have existed in the past and that which even exists to this day, I have come to the conclusion that not all slavery is wrong. Just as there are good men and bad men, there are good masters and bad masters. And not all slaves are treated as we know our ancestors where treated at the hands of their foreign masters. Infact, not all foreign slave masters where evil as we know of stories of slaves who instead got education and even freedom from their masters after so long. To help you understand me better, please go back to stories of slaves and the way they were to be treated by their masters as outlined in the bible ( As I mentioned earlier, I happen to be a very religous person)
