Hmm. We live in a society where those with money call the shots and the justice system is just too blind to do anything in matters affecting the poor.

If the said girl's father had been a wealthy man whose daughter was molest be their security guard, the security guard will be singing lullaby blues behind police bars, and trust our Nigerian Police, they would have beaten the living day light out of him, and also delay taking the case to court to further torture the man.

Its such a pity, the poor no longer have a voice in this country.

Your first question, I have absolutely no idea why this unions are formed, especially for the fact they usually satisfy the interest of a given few. Your second question, people join this unions because they want to feel among devoid of any idealogical backing.
